Aea felt strong, but still had a limp, but it was fading fast. There was a smile on her face as Lous let her out today. Lous had to go 'somewhere' which meant Aea was not allowed to come. Her ears were back and she kicked small pebbles with her paws as she passed them. She wanted to go on adventures too, deep in the wild, but Lous did not allow it.

What were they looking for out there, so far out there, that Aea was not allowed to go?

Lous brought her back small presents, stones or interesting things, but it wasn't the same.

Sighing, Aea's bright eyes searched around for something interesting, something to peak that curiousity inside her, something to fascinate her conscious.

“Inali! No! Sit, Stay! Ughhh BAD BOY! No, don’t ruin her fl---“

“JAMES BOYD LINDON.”

“…owers… Great, now you’ve done it.” JB growled, turning to his angry wife and his crying baby boy.

“I TOLD YOU I DIDN’T WANT THAT ANIMAL NEAR THE HOUSE.” Leticia calmed down just slightly. “And. Now? It’s ruined my flowers. Get it out of here!” She seethed, turning away, slamming the door in her path.

“See, told you you’ve done it now. Leticcciaa! Wait! Inali, you stay here.” It didn’t matter that the mokai couldn’t go anywhere anyways. He was tied to the fence post by his lead. JB hurried inside, to try to make up with his wife.

“Well, that is something you sure don’t see every day.” Inali commented, tugging at his lead as he walked to the street from the front yard. It was just as far as he could go. Being injured in the fight, JB wanted to make sure he was keeping a close eye on his new mokai. Just to make sure he didn’t get into any trouble when it came to giving medications. Inali felt fine really, it was just his blasted paw that ached him. That female had a wicked bite to her.

Soon enough, her eyes fell on a mokai that had a pelt that was, interestingly enough, very close to hers, except for his face. She tilted her head, watching him. He seemed annoyed, and a commotion was erupting from his house. Had his maser put him out because he had done something wrong, or, did he just stay home? He didn't appear to be a pet he was rather...large, so she approached, slowly.

A horn was atop his head, and she wondered if it ever gave him a head ache, his eyes, bright, body, strong. with the similarity in pelt color, design, almost, she wondered if perhaps he had come from somewhere like her...if she knew exactly where that was.

"Uh--hi?" she called, staying a little bit away, in case he was angry and not a mokai-mokai, perhaps he liked being alone. Looking to his home, she heard muffled voices, then looked back to him. "Why won't they let you wander?"

Inali sat on the ground, just outside the Lindon’s house. His injured paw was resting at a tilt, not wanting to put any kind of pressure to irritate it. As the other approached, the male quickly put his paw down, not daring to show weakness in front of any others that he was to meet. (It was bad enough that striped mokai teased him about it after it happened.)

“Oh look, another pet.” Inali commented quietly, his eyes fixed on her collar before shaking his head. Sometimes he wondered if others knew exactly what they were missing outside the gates. Who wanted to be tied up like this and force to battle against other mokai who did ABSOLUTELY nothing to you. (Though, it seemed it was only Inali who was the one who was ever tied up.)

“Hey.” His voice was a little gruff, more or less agitated by the fact that he had won that battle (like Ai had told him too) and yet he was still here. Where was that freedom from gaining trust she was talking about. Didn’t winning automatically mean trust?

“They think I will run away….again…” He shifted on his paws. “I’ll give the humans some credit though. They are much smarter than they look.” Inali looked at her.

“You don’t think you can help me get out of this…do you?” Maybe a pet would know exactly just how to get out of these blasted ropes.

Aea's ears flicked forward when she heard the murmured voice, the four words, and she tilted her head, watching him, ears erect. He seemed, annoyed, agitated, and all else, frustrated with whatever was going on here. After the words were gone, he seemed to try and put them behind him, but it still bothered her. She came a bit closer to him, still stood, and looked over the tie that held him in place.

"I'm not a pet, a fighter," Aea said with a slight smile. She sniffed him, and he smelled, like, "You're from, out there, aren't you?" she asked looking over her shoulder to the wild, the woods and forested areas. "My human and I go out there a lot, spend time out there away form all of this, it can be a bit much sometimes," she said rolling her shoulders.

"You miss it, don't you?" she took his comment of running away, his melancholy features, as a sign he missed his freedom. Perhaps his master, his human, was not as a friend to him as Lous was to her.

She laughed at his comment and nodded, "Some tend to be, but not all," she winked.

Aea looked over the tie again, and came a bit closer to him, "Can I get a closer look?"

“Any mokai who belongs to a human is a pet. Regardless of the actually species of the mokai.” When Inali thought about it, that would make him now the pet. That was something he didn’t want to think about. He had lived that lifestyle before, just before he had hit adulthood. He was lucky enough to escape it though.

“I am,” Inali quit sulking for the moment, intrigued by the other. “You…go outside the gates? You mean your human does with you?” Somehow, if Inali was stuck in this dreaded settlement, he’d rather the life to at least go outside the walls occasionally, if he never was meant to fully live in it again. That didn’t mean he would stop trying to get out on his own again.

“I wish he would go outside the walls.” He murmured quietly. Even just to be out in the open would have helped with the sickness her felt in his heart, the ache that had not gone away. His blue eyes turned to her again. “That obvious, huh?” A sigh escaped his lips. He wasn’t one to usually show emotion, but everything seemed to be clashing down on him.

He looked back towards the window, noting the two-legger was nowhere in sight. “Yes, I’ll keep an eye of for the human.”

At his words, Aea shrugged her shoulders, "I think if I was unhappy here, unhappy with my human, she would let me leave," she said simply. "She and I are a lot alike, sometimes we like it here, for the fights, I just, I don't know, I feel it in me, to fight, more...instinct, if that makes sense. But," Aea said getting a little closer to him, looking over the tie and leash, "sometimes we both can't stand it, and go out there for days. We hunt and fish and sleep under the stars, sometimes it feels, natural."

Aea was very close to him at this point, testing the tie with her teeth, tugging, and then dropping it, looking to the knot, "She found me out there, when I was young, I don't really remember anything before that, so I don't know where I'm supposed to be, or what," her tone was soft, genuine. "All I know is if I feel a need to go out there, feel the wind through the woods around me, she will take me there."

She looked up to his bright blue eyes, and gave him a sad smile, "I wish your human would do the same, give you a chance. It may be obvious you miss it, but you have a reason. You know what it is like, you know it is in your blood, me, I don't really know."

She turned a little from him then, wondering if she said too much. As she looked at the knot, she also glanced over to his pelt. It was a muted tone, like hers, but the design was simple, yet distinct, it made him who he was.

"I don't know if I can get it undone quick enough without the fence making noise," se said softly.

"If my human was here, and she was able, she would cut this, and tell your master a thing or two."

“Then you must have the best human out of the bunch of them here. This one only seems to care about the stuff they get from the fights when the mokai wins. The other mokais he owns are delusional to think this life is such a great life. I won’t stoop myself down to that level.” Who knew, maybe one day Inali would like the settlement life, but the feral in him told him to leave any chance he go.

Inali couldn’t help but be tugged along when she went for the lead. Seems like she was having a problem with it too. “Perhaps you were born there then. I wasn’t, but escape to,” he stopped at another tug, before continuing, “but escaped when I was younger. I was stupid enough to get caught again.”

“I say if you have a will to go out there, then you should. There is nothing like it in the world, especially when there are no humans around. Who knows, you might actually like it out there, more than you can ever like it in here.” Inali persuaded.

“Try?” His blue eyes looked back towards the window, still no human in sight.

“I’ll warn you if he comes?” he offered, almost smirking at her next comment. “I think I am beginning to like your human better and better, and I don’t normally go for the two-legged sort.”

Aea smiled, "I'd like to think so. Anything my human gets from the fights, she uses for food, bills, and stuff to bring out there if we go out for a few days. Its nice. She supports me by taking me beyond the walls while I support her by keeping her fed," she said with a soft laughter.

"I don't know, we'll just have to see huh?" she said smiling. She tried to tug at the lead without tugging him along too much, but it was tight. She looked at it and maneuvered closer to him, and then looked to his neck, getting very close to his face. She was intently looking at the clip on his collar, all without realizing how close in proximity she really was to him.

Hopefully he would not become offended.

Giving up on the collar, she looked to the lead again, where it was tied to the fence post. "Just give it some slack," she said motioning for him to take a few steps closer to her.

Then she began tugging, hard, and the fence creaked as she did so. Her teeth didn't bite too hard into the lead, but as she tugged the fence creaked and sounded as if it might give way.

She took a wider stance and pulled again.

She wanted to try to help.

Inali did as he was told. He really didn’t care how close to the female he got, for as soon as the clip on the lead broke, he would be charging away from the help, and out towards the gate for freedom.

It never did come. Just when he thought that she almost had it, the big oaf came bustling out of the house, his chubby cheeks turning red with anger. “WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING?!” He yelled at the female mokai, waving his hands to scare her away from his ‘prized’ catch. “GET AWAY FROM HIM YOU MONGREL!”

Reaching for whatever he could (in which case, was just a small rock that was on the ground), JB hurled it towards Aea (“Watch out!” Inali gasped), taking the lead on Inali and reeling him back into the yard. The husky marked mokai didn’t go willingly, as he was putting up a fight the whole way back.

Get off of me you moron! Inali shouted, shooting a glance towards Aea’s direction.

As Aea heard the words shouted, she looked to the male human, eyes narrowing. When he picked up the rock and hurled it, her fur bristled, If you touch me she snarled at the human, tail up, head raised, her collar quite clear across her neck. You're the mongrel here she snarled again, and looked to Inali.

"Aea!"

She turned her head to see Lous walking up the cobblestone road, but soon, she came to run to Aea's side, her hands against her belt, many trinkets dangled and bells chimed as she moved. "What do you think you're doing huh?" she screamed at the man. She picked up the rock and held it out in her palm, "Want this returned to you? How would you like it?"

Aea leaned against Lous' leg and nosed towards Inali, and Lous watched the struggling mokai.

"What do you think you're doing with him? Treat him like that and you'll get nothing in return," Lous said matter of factly.

"Wait, wait," she said putitng her hands up slightly, "ease off him," she said looking to the man, then back to Aea.

Lous could see Aea was distressed about this as her ears fell back, tail down.

Lous reached into a small pouch strung to her belt, careful not to touch the knife in case the male mokai would become offended, and took out a small piece of fruit she had brought back from beyond the walls. She held it out to the male mokai in her palm.

Aea looked to Inali, and made a soft crooning noise, Take it...it might be a kind you liked...she will try to help, I think.

Inali’s head turned at the call out of the other’s name. That hadn’t introduced each other yet, but Inali would do well to remember her name. Aea he murmured quietly.

“I take it she,” JB was still fuming, more so about the fact that this little troublemaker was trying to get his mokai loose. If she had succeeded…JB knew he might never catch him again. He wouldn’t let that happen, for he had invested way too much time and money into him already. “..is yours?” He gritted through his teeth, eyeing her belt with the little trinkets dangling from it. “No. You can keep it. And keep her away from him. I don’t want to lose this mokai, he is not trained to stay here just yet.” He spoke truthfully. JB needed to get onto the training sessions with him. Maybe this week, since Inali was out on leave for an injury.

The man lightened up on Inali’s neck, just ever so slightly. “He needs to learn that he has to stay here.” Here being in the settlement, not just the yard.

JB felt the urge to tug back on his lead, so the mokai wouldn’t accept treats from strangers. He didn’t want a spoiled mokai. But, this human seemed a little hostile, so JB resisted the urge to do so.

Inali looked at the fruit, flicking an ear back and forth between Aea, JB and the human female who was Aea’s owner. It’s not poisoned…is it? He asked wearily, slowly inching from JB and to the offered fruit.

No, Aea spoke to the male in murmurs, she would not do that, she wants to prove a point to him, your stupid human. Aea looked to the male human, and narrowed her eyes, staying close to Lous. Lous dropped the stone and Aea had an urge to kick it towards the large man. Aea would have been more than happy to return it to him, full force, in the face.

"Yes, she is mine, and she may go where she pleases when not with me. It is what you get with trust and respect between yourself and a mokai, you'd do well to make note of that," Lous said not budging from where she was. She kept her body still, hand still outright to the male mokai.

"He hesitates because he is unsure, I suspect, and because of the lack of trust and bond between you and him. If he is that new, to not know to stay, to start adjusting, have you ever thought to compromise to gain trust?" she asked in all seriousness, looking to the man's eyes.

"If he was wild, feral, he might respond best if you give him a little taste of what he yearns for. LIke this," she said motioning to her hand, but keeping it still, "is fruit from beyond the walls. Have you ever thought to bring him out there, to train? He might respond better, and it might bestow in him a sense of trust that you are willing to bring him there, and maybe that will reflect on him, maybe not. Regardless," Lous began, setting the fruit down a foot or so from the mokai, and taking a step back to give him space. "You must learn his posture, his body language, it is different from what we expect from domestics."

She looked to the man, and swallowed a bit of her pride, and outstretched her hand in an offer of a handshake, "I'm Lous. I'm sorry if Aea has caused you any trouble, I'm sure if anything, she only wanted to help him feel at ease. I'd welcome the both of you, if you wanted, to accompany the two of us to train out there, where he might be comfortable. I know areas that would be secure, if you're interested. Unless you want to keep this up with him," she motioned to the male tied to a lead, unhappy, unruly, angry.

"It is up to you."

Aea then inched a little towards the male mokai, and smiled, trying and hoping to keep the tension at a minimum.

Inali took the fruit, feeling the lead on his neck tighten slightly. He fled backwards from the female though, staying about the same distance in between both the humans. He knew the man, whom he disliked. He also didn’t know the female, but held a bit of resentment for her though as well, just in his nature. He took a few nibbles of the fruit, leaving most of it on the ground. Inali would rather eat it when no one was looking, rather than around others.

“I don’t have time for compromises if I need to win battles.” JB said gruffly, still not liking the idea that the human had given his mokai a piece of food without his permission.

“And how would you recommend he be trained outside the walls without risking him running off?” The man gave the female a quizzically look, actually contemplating that. He hadn’t had this much problems with Ai, but the fact she was born within the walls might have had something to do with it. Seeing as Inali was fresh caught, he should have known things would be much more difficult.

JB took her hand, shaking it. “James Boyd.” He introduced without a hitch. “And this is Inali.” JB pointed to the husky colored mokai.

He quickly stopped his frown that was inching on his mouth. “It’s alright…I guess. I just didn’t want her to get him loose, so I couldn’t catch him.” That would be a problem.

Dropping her hand, JB nodded. “I think we can manage that. If what you say is true that is. I need Inali’s full trust if he is to keep winning in the pit.” He was happy that Inali won the first battle, hopefully that meant many more to come.

Inali’s ears flickered towards Aea. What are they saying?

"It's easy, I can prep the area where I bring Aea, there are deadfall pits, with nothing in them of course," she said before he argued, "and I can catch anything running." She pulled a rope with several beadings attached to it, as well as rounded, heavy stones on either end and swung it around a little and caught it in her palm with a smile, "All that I have isn't just for looks. We can keep him contained, but also, relaxed, I think."

Lous crossed her arms then after looping her device back to her belt, and thought of what else she could do, they could go to the stone walls area. If he did run, he'd meet granite slabs on three sides.

Yes, perhaps that was best.

"Aea," Lous said looking down, Aea looked up to her eyes shining. "Inali to Etres?" she asked, pointing to Inali with a gentle hand.

Aea nodded.

Aea didn't understand all the words Lous spoke, but they had their own words for items, locations, and they knew them and that was what mattered.

She wants him to bring you to the trees, our training ground, she is trying to convince him, she murmured in croons to Inali, a smile on her maw.

"I know you don't want to waste time, James, may I call you James? But Aea on her own, has not yet lost a fight, so perhaps if the training has worked for her, it can work for your Inali. Whatcha say?"
