Aea knew she wasn't the oldest or most mature mokai within the settlement. She was young, strong willed and spirited, just like her master. She found peace in the wild beyond the walls when her master brought her there, but she also found a great desire to fight and prove herself. It was in her blood. She often listened to Lous tell her stories of her ancestry. how they were both born from the wild and were meant to be here to make an impact and make others notice.

Whether or not that was true, Aea was not sure.

But, as she walked, with a limp in her back right leg, she felt proud. She was undefeated thus far in the pit, and Lous was proud. There was a grin on her master's face often, and it made Aea happy to see it. She had to continue, become stronger, and keep going, but, she wondered, how many others were like her? She'd not met many yet, and she still felt as if she was a feral beyond the walls, with none to call 'friend.'

Freedom! Ai was out of her stall, off her leash, and more importantly, away from the husky-marked mokai that she had kept getting tied too for a few days. Perhaps JB was giving her a break. After all, she had endured a wicked battle the previous day, in the ‘underground’ pit. She had the open wounds to show just how nasty of a fight it had been. Today, the stable hand had slopped some of that notorious yellow antibiotic goop on her shoulder, and called it a day. In Ai’s mind it was okay. At least it hadn’t been bandaged. The cloth like material caused her skin to itch, and get warm rather quickly. It was an unpleasant feeling.

Not really limping, but pretty darn close, Ai made it down the cobblestone paths, into the green grass. One of these days it’d die, bringing winter and frigid cold to the settlement. Ai particularly liked the cold especially when it snowed. She was like a puppy when it came to the soft white blanket.

Her golden eyes weren’t looking ahead when she had crashed into another solid body. Making sure to avoid her injured shoulder, she quickly regained her composure, apologizing to the fallen. “I’m so sorry. I guess I should be watching where I’m going.” She said sheepishly, giving her a small smile.

Aea hadn't been paying attention. Her eyes were on the sky at that point, watching the clouds roll by. Some had shapes, and she was dtermining what species of cloud they could be, a mokai, rapoka, perhaps a human? No, not that was, too round and...without legs. A rock maybe? When she felt a weight crash into her Aea's mind stirred and her eyes fell onto the very striped body on another mokai, female, in front of her. For a moment she stared, her eyes taking in the colors, the tones, and the way the stripes moved across the others body, and she smiled.

"Its okay, she said watching the mokai, I was looking," she stopped, shook her head, "sorry, I get distracted by...interesting designs...patterns, your fur, its quite pretty," she said with a smile and a wag of her tail. "But don't worry, least you didn't clip my leg," she said motioning her head to it, "hurt it the other day in the pit, still stings," she looked to the other female and marveled.

She was a fighter too?

But ehr fur...it could get messy, or scarred.

"I'm Aea."

Had she said too much already?

She really didn’t know how to respond to the pelt being pretty question. Sure, she had been rather uniquely marked compared to some other mokai, but she just saw herself as just a regular being. Her trademark frown appeared on her maw, more so relating to the injury comment from the other, rather than sticking on the subject of the pelts.

“Ah. I hate it when that happens. I’ve taken a few hits like that in the pit. But it’s always worth it when you come out on top in the end. See this wound,” she nodded to her shoulder, a wound courtesy of the vicious dark male from the previous night. “He got a few good chunks out of me, but still managed to come out the victor.” Being in many fights had caused her to know the ropes a little better than some of the newbies.

“Aea? Nice name. I’m Ai.”

When Ai mentioned nothing relating to Aea's fascination with the pelt color or designs, Aea's ears flicked back a little, "sorry if I was forward I just...designs...patterns...its like an opponent that catches you off guard and makes you want to stare, ya know?" that was the only way she could relay it, try to make sense of it so that maybe Ai wouldn't think her a complete weirdo. Least, she hoped not.

Aea looked to Ai's should, and her eyes widened a little.

Holy-

And Ai was walking it off just fine.

Looking to her own leg, and back to Ai, Aea felt weak in comparison. She had injured herself after all. Dummy, look what you went and did now.

With the compliment, Aea smiled, "Thanks, I like yours as well. Short and sweet, to the point, so to speak," Aea said making a motion to Ai's horn. "Hope you got some chunks out of the mokai that did damage to you, with that. I don't have anything like that, but I'm learning, haven't lost yet," she said proudly, "but...I've only been in two matches," she began fiddling her paws together.

It seemed like this Ai was a veteran fighter, capable of so much more.

Ai chuckled lightly. “I would say it’s fine getting distracted out here, but you have to make sure you put everything aside when you enter the ring. I know some fighters would not take a second glance at someone being distracted. In that moment could mean the win or loss in a battle.” All the opponents Ai had been placed against had never been caught in a distraction for her to make a nice fight-ending move. She didn’t doubt that one day she may encounter someone of that caliber though.

“I wish,” she chuckled again. “He was too fast for that the last night, though, not fast enough to miss my teeth digging into his neck.” She remembered vividly the scene from the night before, the rowdy humans, and smell of smoke and blood, and then the angry voice of the other mokai’s owner, pulling him away from her. She was curious just how much further the two would have gone that night. Would death had been at their doorsteps. It was something Ai didn’t know, and would hope that she would not find out soon again.

“I’ve been in five.” Ai started, even though her underground match hadn’t counted. “Won all of them. Keep learning, and you too will come out undefeated, no doubt.” She grinned.

"I know I just...I've been like this, fascinated by lines, color, since I was young. It does have it's advantages though," she said pointing to Ai. "Say, if we were in the pit, and you moved, after I look at you, see where the patterns lay, and how you move and the line move with you. I can watch them and know where you are going. I can see, sometimes, which way someone might go," she said smiling."I just need to stay focused, it's why I ended up going too far, hurting myself in my last fight," she said with a stretch of her limbs.

"Pfft, you'll get him next time, I'm sure, a veteran fighter lik you? Please, you got the fire in you, that's for sure, I bet my master woul have no problem taking you out in the deep like she does me, your master ever take you out there to train?" she asked motioning to the woods beyond the gates, "its a blast, let me tell ya."

When Ai spoke about being undefeated, Aea could only now, "I'd like that. I want to make her proud, my master, but more than that, she's my friend, she saved me, and lets me see what lays beyond. We do it together, she even spars with me," she said with a little puff of her chest.

Ai chuckled lightly. “I guess if that works for you then.” She had never really used the patterns on the other to follow where they were going. She mainly used the fact that she tried to get into the other’s head, watch how they moved by their first attack, before trying to guess what kind of style they were. You could say it worked in her favor, being undefeated.

“I hope so. Sometimes it’s just sheer luck.” She would love to knock that slate colored male down a few notches again. If she could beat him in another fight, then they would surely know who was the better mokai of the two. She was sure his cocky self was trying to say that Ai had somehow cheated during that match. He could have said what he wanted, but the fact was that it was won fair and square.

Ai shook her head. “Not to train. I’ve been on hunts out there, so you could consider that was a training. With all that rough terrain out there, sure helps my endurance, and trying to catch the prey beasts help my speed. My master likes to have me train in the pits near the compound, with humans as baits. Sometimes he will bribe another human to let them use their cull, but only rarely does he do that.”

She flashed Aea a quick smile. “I’ll have to drag my master out there one time then. Give it a try.”

“How did she save you?” Ai was curious. She was bought in the sales barn when she was just a youngster. If you would want to consider her being saved that way, then JB had ‘saved’ her too. Though, that was the fate of a lot of mokai, so she wasn’t sure it really counted. “My human is like my friend as well,” though, she was sure other mokai and humans did not see it that way. In Ai’s mind, it was, and that was all that mattered.

"I don't remember a lot from when I was little, my family for example, I'm not sure where exactly I came from," Aea said with a shrug. "I remember this scent, sweet, like you could taste it, and looking up to the sky, and seeing the stars, the moon, and strange lights. I was alone, for a long time, and cold, I know that," Aea said closing her eyes, trying to reply the memory. "I think I was out there," she said opening her eyes, looking to the wild, "I don't know how I got there, if I was brought there, or born there, but I remember certain noises from here too. But I remember the lights in the sky, it was streaked, and I saw her face, and she took me, saved me."

Aea stopped for a minute and smiled remembering that moment.

"From then on, we've been together, and we've gone out here many times, perhaps to see if anything seems familiar, but it never does, but I always have a desire to fight, always, so I know that is at least in my blood, but so is the wild." Aea shrugged again. "Its confusing to me, but I accept it," she said with a laugh.

"I see that if you and your human are close, the bond of friendship can withstand anything, it has for me so far. Friendship can withstand obstacles in the face of many dangers of circumstance."

Ai wished she could remember exactly what had gone on in her childhood. The fact of the matter was she never dwelled on it, for she never really stayed on moments of the past. However, Aea brought that little bit of wanting back to her, leaving her to reminisce the fragments, and imagine the possibilities.

“Who knows, maybe one day you will find whatever it is that could trigger something in your mind.” Maybe one day, Ai would find something that would trigger her own memories, the days before she was taken away from her parents, and placed in the sales barn.

“Have you considered leaving the compound ever, to join ranks amongst the wild and feral colonies outside the gates?” That is what Cellen had done, because the wild had called him back. Maybe the fact that Ai had not really been in the wild before (if she was born there, she could not remember), caused her to love the life that the settlement had to offer her so much.

“You’re right.” She just hoped that the friendship would never come at a cost to another friendship. Being friends with ferals, yet being so close to her human who disliked ferals could cause some serious problems for her. Though, she did not linger on that now.

"Perhaps," Aea said, "but I don't know if it could," her ears flicked as she looked to the wild. She wondered, always, if she had been born there or here, she just, couldn't remember. She curled her tail around her slightly, and looked back to Ai, "I was so young, so I don't know if its possible."

At Ai's words, Aea tilted her head, and she shook it, very slightly.

"I...don't know if I could. Lous...I don't know if I could leave her. Unless, she came with me," she said simply. "She knows how to survive out there, we've spent nights there, but I just, no, I don't think I could leave her," she said with a confirming nod.

But it did make her wonder...

PostPosted: Thu Nov 24, 2011 1:34 pm

“Anything is possible.” She had been told that by a few. She believed it to a point, but she didn’t express that to Aea. It could always give her any hope too.

“That’s understandable. I don’t think I could ever leave JB. I’ve never slept outside the gates before. I hear it’s very different out there, then what life is in here.” Her paws shuffled on the ground. “I do like it in here, so why change that?” She flashed a smile. Ai once was a mokai that would never have thought twice about others leaving the settlement. She would have one set view and that was it. Slowly, things were looking different on her part. One day she might come to accept that mokai should have the choice of living in the settlement, or outside the walls.

Looking towards the sky, Ai sighed. “I best be going Aea. My master will be looking for me shortly to apply more of the goo. I’ll see you around, but don’t train too hard on that injured leg. Got it?” She said genuinely.

Aea nodded to Ai in agreement, and her eyes watched the striped mokai, watched her movements, her legs, her body. It moved with the stripes like the waves of the sea, the ripples in the stream currents in the wild. "And you be careful of that shoulder," Aea said with a smile and a nod. "If I'm going to try and be undefeated like you, you gotta stay that way," she said smiling, tail swaying.

"Lous'll be lokoing for me too, I'll catch you soon, no doubt," Aea said with a wink and turned to head towards where Lous had last been wandering.

She'd be careful to train easy on her leg, but she wouldn't give in, not yet, not ever.

If Ai could do it, she could to.
