I used to have a pretty decent body. Not supermodel skinny; a good, healthy, attractive (in my opinion) weight. Then I started taking Concerta. I've been losing weight on the medication, and now I'm afraid I've lost too much weight! Now hardly any of my pants fit, and I'm really self-conscious! Any advice?

I would talk to your doctor about it, first. It's not healthy to be losing too much weight and you may need to find an alternative to your medication.
With that said, try to plan out what you eat. I'm not saying pull out the tub of icecream and shove all the pizza you can eat down your throat...but make sure you're getting the right amount of everything you need. If your medications starts making you feel like you're not hungry, try to eat anyways.

You could also start working out. You gain weight when you gain muscle. This could also benefit your daily life as well as your physic. Toning is attractive and healthy so try that out as well. Maybe take up a sport or schedule jogging sessions with friends.

I agree with this completely. Definitely go talk to your doctor, because of the medication is making you lose weight, then perhaps he can switch you to another brand of the same medication, one that will have different/no side-effects.

Agreed as well. I want to say there is also some concern about Concerta. I've heard that people on it have to go in every so few months and get their heart checked out. I would highly advise researching Concerta.

So, it's best to talk to a few doctors about this and your side effects. Sometimes a nutritionist can also help you eat better for your needs.

Do you know if it would work on me? I know that this sounds awful, but I've never been able to lose weight, no matter how much I control my diet and exercise, and I'm starting to get depressed about it. I don't want to be "fat" forever.

First thing to do, though, when medication isn't working correctly is to stop taking your medication immediately. I was having pretty bad reactions to the medication I was taking in my kidneys, and I may have damaged them slightly because of it. It's always good to not take chances.

Second thing is to always call the doctor, because they can treat you better if you give them a detailed description of your problems. Are you not eating? Nauseus? Have you been going to the bathroom too much? Have you been feeling like your heart is beating too fast?

Things like these are always good to consider when talking to the doctor.

Good luck.

I agree with everything that's been said. It's not healthy to lose too much weight too fast. See your doctor immediatly!

Funny, I thought the exact same thing when I read her post xp

I do go in to see a doctor a lot, since I'm taking it as part of a study. I have had some problems with my heart rate, but they're either not as bad as they used to be, or I'm just more used to it by now. So yeah, I've been keeping the doctors updated on what's going on regarding the medication. I'm going in again a week from tomorrow. Oh, and once the school play's over I'll have time to start a new study on a different medication if this one's just not working out.

EDIT: I also have a bottle of a lower dose of the medication (18 mg instead of the 27 mg I'm taking right now). Maybe I should start taking the lower dose and see if that helps.

If you want to try the lower dose, talk to your doctor first to make sure it's ok. smile If he gives the go-ahead, then it should be ok. Or as you said, you could try switching to another brand of medication altogether once you're able to.
