For once, Eva's faced lacked that bright smile that she usually wore. Instead, she was actually looking a little annoyed as she head towards the classroom is search of a certain superior, a task she was not at all happy about. Tell me why I'm doing this again, Chara?
He's your division leader, Came the weapon's even reply, He'll know better than anyone what you'll need to do to become a capable hunter someday.
He hit Reine!
That's not the point. Besides, she disobeyed his orders.
Eva's frown deepened. That's because she didn't even hear his orders! Her headset had fallen off! She replied crossly.
This mental argument continued until weapon and wielder finally reached the classroom. Stepping forward, Eva slowly poked her head out from around the door frame, her eyes narrowing slightly as she caught sight of Caelius. For a minute, she said nothing--she merely stared, the corners of her lips pulled downwards in a frown. It wasn't until she heard Chara snap her name that she finally straightened up, stepped into the room, and cleared her throat to catch his attention (in the case that he hadn't noticed her staring at him for a full minute just a few moments ago).
"Sir?"

Otto was gone, and hopefully never coming back. Deryk had just left barely an hour ago for his mission, and the Death Hunter leader had given everyone else who so as much thought to ask a question a look that pretty much said "I will kill you on sight."
So, when Eva came knocking at the door looking all the world like she was going to ask a question, the Caelius was indeed ready to do the only thing a man of his status and reputation would have done: kill her on sight.
'Violence might not always be the answer, Master.' Circe hummed slightly, stirred by his annoyance. Usually the scythe weapon kept all comments to the barest minimum but even his weapon was apparently feeling chatty today. What the hell did she mean violence was not always the answer: she sure was quick on the uptake half the time when there were the words 'blood' and 'shed' involved in the same sentence.
There was a deep inhale and then what seemed like the deepest exhale as a slightly resigned Death Hunter leader looked up at Eva. "What possibly could I do for you, trainee?"

The corners of Eva's mouth twitched upwards at Caelius' inquiry. Maybe we have more in common than I thought, because I was wondering the exact same thin--
Eva.
The young woman mentally sighed. "I apologize for bothering you, sir." She really was--there seemed to have been some kind of murderous intent in his eyes when he first noticed her--but she continued at Chara's urging. "My name is Eva Valente, and I'm under your division. I've come to ask you something." A pause. Why was she here again?
Tasks. You want to take on extra tasks or missions.
Right. Sure. "I was here to inquire whether there were any tasks a trainee such as myself could presently take on."

What was even-
"Eva. There are several missions someone of your status could engage in, if you even so much as bothered to open up your cell phone. Unlike Dr. H I do not take kindly to anyone of any gender or age acting like a complete and total idiot." Caelius did not do patronizing in his tone: it was entirely, outright condescending.
"And considering that you have yet to prove your worth to me, I do not think I consider you experienced enough to take on any higher level missions, of unfortunately which, there are more than several." A pause as he let Eva digest this. "That means trainee, at this point in time you are ******** worthless to me."

Nope, she took that back. She had nothing in common with this goddamn condescending superior of hers. If she didn't like him before for striking Reine, she certainly didn't like him any better now that he was calling her an idiot.
He didn't even have the subtlety to imply it. What an a**. He's even worse than Otto!
She propped her fists up on her hips, her frown deepening even further (if that was even possible). "With all due respect, I am here to ask if there is a specific task that you would suggest for someone under your division. I'd like to gain more experience so that I will, at some point, not be so <******** worthless to you." She paused, and then tacked on a polite and belated "sir" to the end.
Eva! The voice in her mind was sharp and clearly disapproving.
Hey, those were his words, not mine!

"Are you really willing to risk everything, Eva?" Caelius narrowed his eyes, expression calculating. "You are indeed under my division, but you lack something. True motivation. Unfaltering determination. Willingness."
A pause as he made eye contact. "If I asked you to kill someone, would you take this mission, trainee?"
And suddenly, it felt like the Island all over again.

Eva flinched at Caelius' words, at the implication that she may have lacked any of those things. She had signed herself up for this--did that, in some ways, show her determination? She had abandoned her friends and family--her beloved parents--when she was finally given the option to do something about those shadows that had haunted her ever since she was a child.
...But when she thought about it, perhaps it had also been a way to run away from the gossip-filled little town that she lived in. She shoved that thought off to the side.
She met his gaze as evenly as she could, barely suppressing a shiver. Kill someone? Kill who, exactly? She had never seriously raised a hand or a weapon against another human being. At least, not since the trial on the Island.
Another suppressed shiver.
"...Has this person seriously wronged you or the organization, sir?" Whether he was being serious or had simply been using that as an example, her question could pertain to either case. If "someone" was a monster, then yes--she could do that. But if it was a human...
...They had better be pretty damn evil if they were a human.

"And if I said 'yes', would you believe me?." It was obvious that he was toying with her now, just as she was for some unknown reason refusing to yield. Candidates-come-trainees were all for the most part farmed for this trait: a strong personality that did not falter. A personality that still needed to be finetuned.
But the insistence had been enough. "Very well, if you insist on a mission, you will need a partner for this task." He went back to his work, and upon noticing that she was doing nothing, glared. "If you are done staring into space, tell them to meet here immediately to recieve orders."OOC -Eva can now 'text' or 'call' a fellow trainee to assist her in this next task -Said trainee needs to report into this thread before the mission is carried out

A partner? Eva's mind immediately flickered to one person in particular, and she frowned. She wasn't sure that that would be the wisest of ideas considering what had happened, not to mention she didn't have many clues as to what the mission was.
...Well, it didn't hurt to ask.
"Yes, sir. I understand." Pulling out her phone, she sent a quick message out.
Danse-Hexe Reine, it's Eva. I've asked Caelius for a mission, and he told me that I required a partner--do you think you're up for it? If so, meet in the classroom. She paused, very much tempted to add an additional, "P.S. He's an a**--prepare yourself" as a warning, but she wasn't sure if the man in question could access and see all the texts that the trainees were sending one another. Just to be safe, she left it out.

She'd rolled over in bed when she heard her cellphone ring, only to have the swollen side of her cheek pressed hard against the pillow. With a yell the girl jerked up, a hand moving up to touch said cheek gingerly.Kaiyumi k will be there soon, ilu Not putting too much thought into it, she quickly texted back. Perhaps this was a chance to redeem herself in Caelius' eyes...? Dragging herself off the bed, she dressed as quickly as she could, and headed over.
..... Wait. Which classroom...?

He waited. And waited. And documented a few pages, waiting. Eva was still standing there like nobody's business. "Your friend is not coming." Why was it that every single time he had to state the ******** obvious? "So you can either take the mission alone or-"
-"Sir?" A knock at the door. "There is someone waiting outside for you I believe."
Caelius gave the intruding Hunter and the not-so-absentee Reine a look. "Very well then. I will outline the details of your tag team mission, though the exact location and information will be forwarded to your cell phones. You are to take the lighthouse exit portal to the directions as forwarded. Once you have reached the portal, talk to the Hunter stationed there before you carry out the details of the mission. You are dismissed."
The brief explanation of everything being 'forwarded to their cell phones' only made it questionably ominous. OOC - Icly head over to "the lighthouse area" (just in this thread is fine, just have the character exit the room and wait at the 'outpost' in this thread for further instructions - Also once at the location, read the cell phone text below as well CELL PHONE TEXT MESSAGE FROM CAELIUS:- A suppression Artifact is needed for this mission. Arrive at the location, locate the target(s) and subdue them with the suppression Artifact. Targets listed below as: Spencer Adams, male, 19, caucasian. - Targeted location: North America, United States, Missouri, St. Louis, 128 Pender Street, Latitude: 38•37'38W", Longitude: 90•11'52"N

Eva tried not to smile when she received Reine's reply (since it seemed like Caelius was adverse to smiles and would have it wiped off of her face asap). However, it was more of a struggle not to break into a wide grin when, despite her superior's confidence, Reine ended up showing up as planned.
The humour on her face was quickly replaced by seriousness as they were given the mission details. Fortunately, it didn't sound too bad...so far. Arm held stiffly at her sides, she bowed, and then grinned as she straightened up. "Thank you, sir," Eva's voice was probably a little too chipper, "We'll be on our way."
She linked her arm with Reine, practically dragging the girl out of there before Caelius could say anything else. It wasn't until they were a fair distance away--and by that point, pretty close to the lighthouse--that Eva finally spoke.
"That man...I don't even know what to say about him. He's so condescending, I swear." And unlike most people she knew, he wasn't fun to tease.
...Or maybe he would be, but she wasn't sure if she would have enough time to be amused before he took a swipe at her with that scythe.
As they neared the lighthouse, the death trainee whipped out her cellphone to check the new text, almost freezing mid-step as she scanned the message. And then again. And one more time. She looked up at Reine, very slowly, and tilted her head. "...What's a suppression Artifact?" And if her friend didn't know, then maybe they could ask that hunter standing by the portal there.

It seemed like the minute she'd reached, she'd been dragged off again by Eva- not that she minded, it was what she'd been called over for. She barely managed to catch a glimpse of Caelius, but alarm bells were ringing in her head. He'd probably said something, oh no, and she hadn't quite caught it, something about portals and details wait what details?!
"I thought he was pretty cool," she replied, somewhat shyly. "W..wait, Eva, what did he say just now?" Reine wasn't panicking for no reason- being smacked once was more than enough. Taking her friend's cue, she checked her phone, scanning the message quickly.
Locate the target and subdue them with the--- Eva voiced the question aloud for her, and grinning (though somewhat painfully), Reine raised her hand for a high-five. "Maybe that guy over there can tell us?" Indicating who she was sure was 'the hunter by the portal', she looked back at Eva hopefully.
"Gotta remember this address.. Hey, you don't think we'll have to take a bus or something? Can we get a map? And some money?"

The Hunter on portal duty, a stoic six-foot-plus figure that seemed more statue than man tilted his head only briefly to look at the two arriving trainees. Without another word, upon both Eva and Reine's questioning gazes, he pointed to the table. A single handgun lay on the table, etched with odd runic shapes on the side. And without waiting for a confirmation of whether or not this was indeed, the 'Suppression Artifact', the Hunter grunted and pointed towards the door. A black, shapeless door.
Upon moving through the portal, sound and lights assaulted the trainees. They were somewhere crowded - right outside a main street. A car blazed past them nosily, honking. Though the street itself was quiet, if not mostly abandoned, save for that one car passing by, everything else seemed over saturated. Neon signs flickered overhead advertising things such as "John's Burger Shack", or "Extreme Tattoo Parlor", the road both ways was littered with even rows of streetlights.
And there the trainees were, in the middle of what seemed like an abandoned street corner, in the middle of the evening, with no money, a map, or really, anything other than the Artifact Item and their cell phones. So it was rather gratifying when their cell phones buzzed again, just once. TEXT MESSAGE FROM CAELIUS:- Destination is two blocks north from arrival position. Wait there until he arrives. Use the Suppression Artifact. Only after using it will you be transported back.

Eva smiled, giving Reine a little nudge at the Hunter who was on portal duty. "Doesn't look like a very talkative fellow, does he? Good morning, sir." The second part was addressed to the man in question, and she flashed him a grin. However, the expression on her face faded slightly when their attention was drawn towards the strange handgun on the table. What was...?
She looked from the Hunter, to Reine, and then back. Moving towards the table, she reached out to pick up the gun, holding it gingerly between two fingers and grimacing as she eyed it. Were they going to shoot their target?
They could think about that later. Bobbing her head in thanks to at the Hunter, she moved back to Reine, linking her arm with the girl's (while still holding the gun between two fingers in her other hand), she pulled her towards the portal.
"Holy crap." Those were the first two words that left her lips as she took in their new surroundings. There wasn't much time to gape, though--shortly after they arrived, they received another text, and Eva slipped her arm free from Reine's to check her phone. "Two blocks...Reine, do you, ah...do you know how to use this thing?" She held up the handgun.
