It has been thirty or so years since the Black Moon Battles ended, and around twenty years since Prince Dimande took his seat beside Serenity on the Moon Kingdom's throne. With he and his brother Saphir being the only remaining members of the once Black Moon Clan (now redubbed as Black Moon Royalty), much tension has risen over these past two decades in regards to the outcome of the war. Together with his 'daughter,' Princess Sapphire, Saphir has left the Moon Kingdom to begin a ruling over the mysterious Nemesis, his whereabouts and antics thereafter left to the imagination of the Moon Kingdom. It is believed that Saphir has spent the last twenty years building an army, an army which we now know of as the Biyotiks, whose powers were artificially injected into each of them and utilized for Saphir to maintain control over. The true motives of his actions have yet to be discovered, but Dimande and Usagi most certainly fear the worst; in fact, Dimande believes that Saphir is after his position, and Usagi believes he took Princess Sapphire from her at birth to help serve that purpose.
The young heiress, Princess Ruby, has thus spent most of her life training to become an even stronger senshi than that of her unknown half sister and the alleged Biyotiks. While such preparation on the Moon Kingdom has been apparent for quite some time to the other senshi, the impending war has been kept secret amongst the Black Moon Royalty in fear of chaos ensuing as a result.
