So I have an ornamental pepper plant, and my friend has the brother of my ornamental pepper plant, I know this because both came from the seed of a pepper I grew Junior year of high school.

My pepper is doing fine, sprouted up, is flowering, growing with a passion. Hers on the other hand...stunted, withering, sad.

At first I prescribed more water, but that hasn't been helping. I've never had a problem with them and she swears he's getting enough water. They've had the same soil, repoted at the same time by me. I don't know what the enviromental problem would be with her pepper, any advice to help turn him around would be great.

I don't know what the specific breed of pepper they are, sorry. I got the original plant from a physics teacher and he never told me.

Do you know where the plant is being kept? How much sunlight or air its getting? Water isn't the only thing plants need, after all.

This is true, she lives in a dorm room with a southern facing window, moves the plant out into the lounge during the day so it gets about 7 hours a day of north eastern light (the dorm is on a weird angle) air shouldn't be a problem. Open air in the dorm, my own peppers lived in the same dorm with relative success.

You think it could be a perfume or something? My friend doesn't use hairspray.

It could be something like that, perfume, air fresheners, arisol deodorant, etc.

But also I'd like to add, and I didn't consider this until I had already submitted my post, but sometimes some seeds are just "weaker" and grow into less healthy or less lush plants. It doesn't mean that the grower is doing anything wrong, sometimes they just get a runt.

I suppose. He was doing well enough before, it's just sad to see a good plant go.

it could be just simple genetics. Plants that come from grocery food items or fruits from plants that were bought are like playing the lottery. As you know many crop and horticulture are bred in a certain way to get the best resistance or the best fruit, but plants from these industries also produce seed that once taken out of the line of breeding and left wild may produce weaker plants with smaller fruits and whatnot, or you may get lucky and get yet another good plant.

Care and pampering and/or neglect aside, if everything else is done right/wrong, and you can't think of anything else wrong, it may just be that they are, as Renkon said, the Runt.
