Neela wandered down the edge of a stream, not really sure where she was going but then again she didn't know where she'd been going for the past few months. Meeting another had brightened her mood for a bit, taking her mind off her best friend who didn't seem to be coming back. She had to finally come to terms that he'd probably never come back, instead of living day by day thinking, 'today is the day I'll see him again.' Because there was only constant disappointment at the end of the day. She still missed her father too. Being a daddy's girl away from dad for a long time never sat well with her. Perhaps she just craved any sort of interaction in general, being alone was…lonely for lack of a better word.
The weather wasn't really helping her mood either. You'd think being born this time of year she wouldn't mind it but it was getting too cold for comfort. And there was talk of snow! Just perfect... "What is wrong with me? Last year I was ecstatic to see the snow. Guess I'm turning into some sort of… not fun person. And now I'm talking to myself. Joy!" With a sigh she scuffed her hooves as she kept walking.

Zachary stood with his eyes closed on the brink of the river, his breath exhaling and inhaling in a rhythmic fashion; he truly loved the peacefulness that the world held and tried to incorporate it into his everyday life. He had been traveling fair, learning different techniques of mediation and helping those who sought his aid, this brief increment of time by the river was his respite and a time to reflect on all he had experienced.
The air was beginning to chill, snow was on its way, Zachary could feel it in his bones, a smile crossed his countenance, for it had been a while since he had seen the first snow fall of the season. He opened his teal colored eyes and stared at the world that would soon be covered in white; his ears began to twitch as he heard a voice of an approaching being, it sounded like a mare, but the stallion was not entirely sure.

Neela was still sort of muttering to herself as she came upon another, now looking in her direction. She stopped short, and if her coat wasn't dark a flush probably would have shown on her face. "I-I uh. I'm sorry. Heh you know how it is. On your own you kinda end up talking to yourself!" With a nervous laugh she shook her head, causing her long bangs to fall over her eye. "I was just passing through, don't mind me." Mentally swearing at herself for probably looking like a lunatic, she kept her head down slightly and kept on walking.

Zachary smiled at the mare, but she probably did not see, for she looked down, “It’s really okay, I do the same.” He watched as she started to walk away, he really did not want her to leave, but he did not know what to say to keep her here, “Miss? I uh..” Why was he having such trouble? He was usually able to talk to anyone he met, perhaps it was just an off day for him, “I was wondering if you could help me?” He waited, hoping perhaps she would stay.

She paused to look back at the stallion, giving a small smile. Whether he was telling the truth or just saying it to make her feel better, she appreciated the gesture. "My name's Neela. And I promise I'm not as crazy as I may have looked." With a small chuckle she stepped forward. "I suppose I could try. What kind of help do you need?"

Zachary bowed his head to the mare, “It is a pleasure to meet you Neela, I am Zachary, but you can call me Zach if you like,” he gave her a big smile, “You do not seem crazy to me.” He got a better look at her now that she stood closer to him, her coloration reminded him of the depths of the ocean, “I was wondering if you have seen a stallion around these parts that is similar in appearance to me?”

"I'm afraid I haven't. I think I would have remembered seeing someone like you. Your colors are very unique." Her ears perked at the trinket at the base of his tail. Curious by nature, she stuck her head forward a little. Though she did have respect for other people's personal space, sometimes she couldn't help but wonder. "What's that you have on your tail? I haven't seen anything like it before." She circled his backside a little. "Does it do something special?"

“Ah, well thank you,” he gives her a smile and then looks to the gem with wings at the top of his tail, “It is a family heirloom; it belonged to my grandfather on my mother’s side and my mother passed it down to me when I was old enough to not break it,” he gave a small laugh as he remembered the day he got the two winged gems, “As far as I know, it does not doing anything special, but then again I have not attempted to try anything to it. Do you think it does something?” Zach was curious to see what she thought.

"I wouldn't know. I sure don't think you can fly with it though." She laughed. "It's pretty, unique. Unique seems to be my word of the day to describe you. It looks like it could be something out of a story though. A magic charm that grants its wearer some sort of power, or good luck. But that probably just sounds silly." She walked back around to face him instead of looking at his backside. "Who are you looking for, Zachary? A family member? I would assume since you asked if they looked like you. If you don't mind me asking."

Zachary laughed with her, “I don’t believe it has given me that ability and it is not one that I wish to attempt any time soon.” He tilted his head to the side as he considered her words, “It does not sound silly, for it may be true, ever since wearing these gems I have not encountered anything that wished me harm or bad luck.” She turned her attention back to his face and he saw her eyes, they were a light blue, they reminded him of the sky, “My father. All I know about him is that I look like him and he enjoys mares a tad too much… I just want to meet him and get to know him.”

"Well I'm glad for that, maybe it does have some sort of good luck. Perhaps I'll have to borrow it from you sometime." She listened to him and couldn't stifle the giggle that escaped. "I'm sorry, just the way you said that sounded a bit funny. I've heard of those types. I'll keep an eye out for him, perhaps tell him you're looking for him. But.. you've never met your father? How is that possible?" Neela wasn't very close to her mother, but she at least knew her, and she couldn't imagine if she didn't know her father. It broke her heart just thinking about such a thing.

“Are you in need of luck? And I would not mind letting you barrow one, I do have two of them,” his smile widened at the mare’s giggle, “No it quite alright, thank you, if you do see him, be careful, if the rumors are true. No, I have never met him. He met with my mother for one night and then left the next day, I don’t think he even knows he has three children. What about you? Are you close to your parents? Sorry if that was a personal question.” He knew that his situation was not a rare thing; there were many occurrences when one of the parents left the other and never looked back.

"Well hey a little good luck never hurt anyone. But I believe they were given to you for a reason, so it's probably best you keep them. And don't worry, I can take care of myself. Though if I saw him now I would probably just giggle again and say his son warned me about him." She laughed again. "I'm sorry to hear that. I haven't seen my mother in a long time, but I'm very close with my father. He and I are very similar, guess I've always been a daddy's girl. I miss him a lot, actually. It's been a while since I've been able to see him."

Zachary gave a slight nod, “Very true and you are most likely right.” A bright grin covered his countenance, “Now that would be something to see, he would most likely not believe you that he has a son, but then again, with his history, he may have an idea. Why haven’t you been able to see your mother?” Zach smiled as he listened to her talk about her father, “When will you get to see him again?”

"My mother just doesn't come around. She... she's kind of different. In the head if you know what I mean. But she was good to me and my brother. I guess I just stayed more with dad, and my brother went with mom. I'm not sure when I'll see him again but hopefully soon. Maybe I'll head back toward where he stays soon."

“Do you ever get to see your brother after you went your separate ways?” He thought about his brother and sister, they were very close when they were foals, but seemed to grow apart when they got older; Zach did not even know where his brother was right now. “I hope you get to see your father soon as well, is he located close to here?”

"No not really. Haven't seen him in about the same time as my mother. The strange thing... He always talked about another sister. But he claims he made her up, this goes back to part of my family not being all together in the head. But when I was little I would swear we DID have another sister, then I convinced myself I'd dreamed it. I've still kind of kept and eye out for someone who looks like us, our sister who disappeared. If she even exists." She hadn't thought about that mystery sister in a long time… maybe it was time to keep looking for her like she said she would so long ago. "Thanks, I hope so too. And... I'm not entirely sure." She chuckled. "I don't really know where I am since I've just been wandering so... he could be."

Zachary’s teal eyes opened wide in shock, “That is some mystery you have in your family, so no one knows for sure if the sister actually is real? Will you look for this lost sister of yours? I offer my aid in any way, but I am not a detective, so I am not sure how much use I would be in the search.” He looked around the peaceful area of the river, it would be hard to find someone who continued to travel, never settling down for too long, “How do you mean to find your father then, if he not in one place?”

"No.. If she is my parents just obviously decided to not acknowledge her. Or she really could be some figment of my strange brother's imagination and it was just a coincidence I thought I had one or dreamed about one. The uncertainty of it I think is what has stopped me. I just always wonder if she IS real.. what happened? Why did she leave and why did my parents not tell us? Definitely a mystery." She shrugged thought and shook her head at his other question. "No, no, I'm the one who keeps moving. And since I keep moving I kinda lose track of where I am. Which makes it harder to figure out where I need to go to get back there. I might ask my father about this sister. I can't remember if I've asked before or not."

“It is a very strange coincidence that both of you dreamt of a lost sister, and even stranger that if you do have a sister, why didn’t your parents tell you, unless something happened while all of you were in baskets.” Zachary’s mind went through the different scenarios that could have taken place to explain the disappearance of one of Neela’s siblings. “Ah, I see, do you know where he is usually located? I may be able to point you in the right direction, but then again I am new to this area as well and may make you more lost…” He gave her a sheepish smile.

“Well getting lost is half the adventure,” he smiled at the dark colored mare, Zach truly did not care about getting lost, for in the end, he always ended up where he was supposed to be, “Perhaps they wanted you to see the world in all its glory and experience it away from their protective bond?” That was the reason why his mother sent him away when he was old enough to make his own decisions rationally.

"Well sure, I don't deny that it's an adventure. I think I just don't like so much alone time I have. Everyone needs space now and then but.. there's a limit. I need more socialization to function properly. Or else I just get down and then start talking to myself." Her ears drooped a little as she thought of the only other one she'd had to talk to, but tried to shake it off. "I'm sure that's what my dad would want. He didn't make me though, I just kinda.. left. Curiousity got the best of me, y'know?"

It was the first time that Zachary actually consider how lonely it was to travel alone, he usually went into deep mediation, so the solitude did not bother him, but most did not do what he did, “I had forgotten about loneliness as a factor in adventure, and it is completely understandable, we need social interaction so we won’t go crazy.” He gave her a small smile, and then the smile disappeared when he noticed her ears dropping, did he say something that upset her? “Ah, yes, curiosity, it has a very strong calling.”

“That is surprising, I would think on your travels you would encounter a whole lot of new soquili, but I am glad that I was able to talk to you today, thank you for stopping!” Zach laughed as well, today was a pretty good day.

He did not understand why she would avoid talking to the others on her journey, but would stop to talk to him, perhaps it was because he stopped and talk to her first? “Well perhaps it just was not the time to do so,” His smile widened and a slight coloration appeared on his cheeks, “I don’t want you to leave either, I quite like talking to you, Neela.”

Zachary was filled with a new excitement, “I would definitely enjoy traveling with you and it may even make the search easier, with four eyes instead of just two. I believe you are right, it would make our journeys more enjoyable, I have never traveled with another, so it will be a new experience for me.”

"Fantastic!" She jumped a little and could even dance if she wanted. "Things will be so much better now, I bet I won't get down in the dumps anymore with someone to talk to. It'll be just like with .. " She paused, that moment of sad came again like before when her ears had drooped at a memory. "N-nevermind. It'll be fun though. We'll be good friends right?" she smiled at him.

Zachary gave her a big grin, “I am glad for the company and that it will make you happy.” His words stopped when he noticed that she suddenly became saddened, similar to a few minutes before when her ears dropped, Zachary wondered what had caused her to go from almost dancing to the solemn mare before him; he did not ask, she would tell him in time if she wished. He returned her smile, “Yes, Neela, we will be great friends.”

"Good. We'll be great adventurers too." She had to stop thinking about Izzy. They'd always be friends but.. how many times was she going to have to tell herself to stop being sad over it? She had another friend right in front of her, there was no point in making herself upset over one who wasn't here. "So.. now what do we do?" She laughed.

“Yes we will, so who will we go in search of first?” He looked around the river area, it was hard to believe that he had only arrived to the bank that morning, it felt as if he had known Neela much longer than that. A playful smile appeared on the usual calm and easy going stallion, “We get lost of course.”

She laughed more. "Oh there's plenty of time for us to get lost. And I don't think we can really choose who to look for.. since we don't know where to go. So I guess we just start walking. Probably in the morning though. Maybe we should find a place to hunker down tonight to get away from the cold."

Zachary laughed, “Very true, so we will just go with the flow. Lead the way,” he bows to the mare, “Oh yes, the first snow fall will be happening soon, we are going to want that warm shelter before then or it may be a tad difficult to find anything in all the white.”

"..You probably don't want me leading the way, or we'll probably never find anything. I don't even know where to begin to find shelter. I've kind of just tried to tough it out in the open. It gets harder each night though since the temperature keeps dropping. Haven't gotten a whole ton of sleep thanks to the cold. You have any ideas?"

Zachary closed his eyes as he conjured a mental map of the area they were currently in, he remembered on his way to the river he crossed an area that had the strong probability of having a stone structure of sorts or a cave, “I have an idea where we could find shelter for the night and we can plot what we want to do next while we are there? It is quite a distance away, I found the area as I was making my way here.”

“Right this way!” He started to head in the direction of the setting sun, as he tried to think of something interesting about himself, but he was coming up blank. “Uh, well I am the middle child and I do not look anything a like my brother and sister, who could be twins. I enjoy mediation, and the concept of yin and yang… sorry I am not very good at this… how about you, do you have anything interesting about yourself?”

"Probably not." She chuckled as she followed beside him. "I have these funky spikes on my legs. My brother got the same ones on his shoulders, but no one in our family has them. Kinda strange. Um. My birthday was a couple weeks ago! That's all I really got. I'm not that exciting. What's yin and yang?"

Zachary looked to the spikes on her legs, “Strange but fascinating. Oh? Happy Belated Birthday! Did you get to celebrate it with anyone or were you still wandering? I beg to differ, you are quite exciting,” he smiled at her and then took in a deep breath, “Yin and yang represent the balance in the world, they are the opposite of each other, yin is soft while yang is hard or yin is stillness while yang is movement.”

"No I was still on the move. But I doubt anyone would celebrate it anyway, you don't see a whole lot of birthday celebrations." She blinked and looked up at him curiously. "Really? You think I'm exciting? Well thanks, I think you're pretty exciting too, Zachary. I haven't heard of yin and yang, but I get that concept of balance. Without it everything falls apart."

“Well, I believe we should celebrate, so perhaps one of these nights we will celebrate your birthday, it is very important after all. Yes really,” he gives her a big smile as he continues to walk to the shelter in stone, “Thank you Neela. Exactly, and it also represents good and evil in the world, when they are in balance the world is in tune, but when one becomes more dominate, then that is when we start to notice complications.”

Zachary smiled at the mare following him, they were about half way there, if his map was correct in his head, it did not take nearly as long as it did before, perhaps the cold was making both of them walk faster, “It is what friends do. What day was your birthday?”

"Ah let's see. November.. 6 I think it was. Something around there. But don't we have more important things to do, we are on a mission after all!" Her breath was steaming on the air as they walked on, luckily their movements were keeping her muscles warm. If they stopped she didn't doubt they'd be shivering within minutes.

Zach mentally kept track of the date in his mind, he liked remembering everyone’s birthdays so he could give them well wishes when he saw them next, “Yes, we have something important to do, find our fathers and some place warm for the night. We are getting close, and does it feel as if it is getting colder to you?”

"Yes it does, but I'm trying not to think about it. The less you think about the cold, the less cold you are... which really doesn't make sense. But hey talking is another distraction from thinking about how cold you are," she laughed. "What do you think you'll say to your father once you find him?"

Zachary took in a deep breath of the frigid air, letting it fill his lungs, he cleared his mind of the cold and concentrated on an image of a fire, he felt his body slowly start to warm and the numbness of his limbs vanish, “Picture a fire, it helps. What will I say to my father? Hmm, I really have not thought about it, I was mostly concentrating on finding him, but I would probably say hello and then break the news to him gently.”

"Oh a fire sounds so nice right now. I can just imagine his reaction when he finds out he has a son. But I think he should be proud, he got a pretty good son."

“Close your eyes and visualize the fire, feel its warmth surrounding you like a blanket,” Zachary looked ahead at the line of trees, they were close, “Well one look at me and he will know that we are related, and it will be an interesting facial expression he will have when he discovers I am his son,” he looked back at the mare, “Thank you, that means a lot to me.”

"I don't think I have that good of an imagination." She smiled up at him. "You're welcome. That's what friends are for, right? And if he doesn't see how great you are, then it's his loss and doesn't deserve you." She nodded matter-of-factly.

“Then we better find that shelter quick, so you can get warm.” He nodded his head, which caused his braid to move up and down, “Right,” Zach smiled at her words, “Yes, it would be, but I am hoping it does not come to that.”

"Well of course, but I'm just saying. If worse comes to worse, you shouldn't get down about it. But hopefully he'll be happy to see you, once the surprise wears off. And yeess please! I'm tired of the cold. At least until it snows, then I'll be okay since I'll probably be out playing in it." She giggled.

Zack looked back to her and smiled, “I won’t, I go with the flow remember, I will accept it how it is and move on. That is what I hope as well. We are almost there, I promise. I haven’t seen a first snow fall since I was a foal, this will be a sight to see and I am glad I will be sharing it with you.”

Neela flushed a little. "Well that's a nice thing to say. Since I was born in the fall I got to grow up through winter. Playing in the snow was a favorite past time of mine, Izzy hated it though. He was such a wimp, frowning at the snow like it was his mortal enemy or something." She laughed. "Hopefully I won't lose you in the snow, you have the potential to blend in a lot better than myself."

“That must have been lovely, I grew up during the spring months, not too much snow then… Is Izzy your brother?” Zachary laughed, “That could be very problematic, one step into a snow pile and I will vanish!”

There she went talking about him again, without even realizing it. "..No. Izzy is.. was. I don't really know anymore but he was my best friend. And he's just.. gone now. For almost a year now and I don't know if he'll ever come back. Or even where he went. I've been kinda down about it since he was my only friend." She managed a smile at him though. "I'll try to keep an eye on you so the snow doesn't end up eating you."

Zachary frowned, he had ruined the joyous feeling of the moment by asking a sore question, “I’m sorry, I should not have asked, since mentioning him seems to bring you so much pain. Although, it seems very strange for him to just disappear without a word…” To him, it did not seem like Izzy was a very good friend if left her without telling her why, unless something happened beyond his control removed him from Neela’s life. Zach gave a slight smile, “Thank you, I appreciate it, I don’t want to become a snow stallion.”

"No please don't feel like that. It's normal to be curious, I guess I tend to bring him up a lot since I do still have good memories of him. I'm okay, I promise." She smiled to prove it. "It's better since I have another friend now, I'll always wonder about him though. What happened and if I'll see him again. So don't beat yourself up, okay?" She tugged on his braid for good measure. "Or else I might just let you turn into a snow stallion."

“Well that is good that you have many fond memories of him,” he returned her smile, “Perhaps you will find him one day, when you are on one of your many travels. Yes ma’am.” He laughed as she tugged on his braid and gave the silly threat, “If that does happen, at least it will make for a very entertaining story one day.”

"Maybe. I sure hope I get to see him again. Hopefully it wasn't anything to do with his father. He hated me. Didn't think I was all that great since I didn't have wings, but Iz didn't care." She could still remember the hateful look that stallion would give her, for something beyond her control. So she hated him right back. "It would be a good story. The day Zachary turned into a snow stallion! Kinda catchy. We could even make it dramatic. How I had to save you or else you would be a snow monster forever!"

“If it is meant to be, it will happen. To hate someone just because they are different, is not a valid reason to despise someone, but I am glad that Izzy was able to look past his father’s bias,” Zach smiled at the mare, “The whole world would know of the legend of Zachary the Snow Stallion!” He his laugh filled the chilly air, “It will be an amazing tale, which not many would believe, but we will know it to be true!”

"Everyone might know the legend of the two snow horses if we don't get outta this cold. Or better, the two horse popsicles. I'll race ya!" Neela darted off through the trees, and outta sight. Not sure where she was going but she figured if she just went straight for now she'd find something useful.

Zachary laughed, and chased after Neela as she made her way for the trees, she was incredibly fast, and the stallion had lost track of her a few times, but he caught up to her in the end. His teal eyes catch sight of the structure that would keep them dry and warm from the cold white snow. “Neela, see that structure right there? That is where we are heading.”

She could barely hear him but she did catch sight of the structure up ahead, and giving one last burst of energy she skidded to a halt in front of it. "I win!" She turned, panting, and faced him as he came up. "Well I'm not so cold anymore! But I am tired, good thing it wasn't that far."

He came to a stop shortly after her, he laughed, “You had a head start,” he looked at the structure, it appeared deeper than it had at a distance, it was perfect, “Same, let’s get inside before we end up freezing out here, even if you are not cold right now, you will be soon.”

Neela nodded and looked into the cave-like structure. "..Men first." She bumped his shoulder, while still staring into the darkness.

Zachary nodded, “Yes ma’am.” He took steps into the protection of the stone, it had jumped up ten degrees. He continued to walk deeper into the rocky shelter, soon he came to the back of the out cropping, “Neela, it’s okay! And warm to!”

She wasn't gonna be left by herself for long, and skittered inside soon after he had gone in. "This is definitely better than being outside. Good job, Zach. You have saved us from becoming popsicles for the night. I wonder how deep this thing is." She slowly made her down into the cave.

He looked at her as she skidded to a stop beside him, “we definitely did not want that to happen, this is a very interesting cave he have stumbled upon,” stood as he watched her wander down a side corridor of the cave, quickly he followed after her, “it could be as big as a mountain or as small as a teepee, it will be hard to guess, so many twists and turns will cause us to believe something different than the truth.”

"Well I guess we should just pick a spot and call it a night. The last thing we need is to get lost in a cave." She found a small pocket in the cave that would probably be best at helping to keep them warm for the night and plopped herself down to curl up.

Zachary’s ears twitched as he noticed the wind outside had increased, but it did not appear to breach the warm air inside the cave, he stood near the stood near Neela and then got down on the stone floor beside her, “Good night Neela, I am glad to have met you today.””

"Me too, Zach. I needed a good friend like you." Her head rested on his shoulder, glad not only for the company but the warmth that came with it on a cold night. Which would lead to the best night's sleep she'd had in a long time.

Zach smiled to himself, as she rested her head on him, and then he closed his eyes and drifted into the realm of sleep, glad to have his new friend by his side.
