They soon arrived on the training field; it was surprisingly empty and quiet, which suited Ariane just fine - less distractions, after all.
'How pessimistic.'
Turning to face her opponent for the day, she tugged the necklace out from her neck. A flash of light later, her weapon appeared in her hand, the chains hanging from her palm, the steel balls on either side swinging a little as she grinned and closed her fingers around it; she would never get tired of this... As unconventional a weapon Kintama was, she loved him; it just felt so right, even more than any sword or dagger.
"You know how to do this, right?" She inclined her head up at the trainee, "Or do we have to go through the rules again?"

Once they were at the field, Deryk took a moment to stretch out his arms. He didn't want to end up cramping up or pulling something after all. When Ariane summoned her weapon, he stared at it with interest. Ball and chains! Interesting.
It seemed to be the case most of the time. Then again, he figured the only person who he less range than himself was Ryan, and it wasn't by much. He just had a few inches more, due to the blade.
"Uh.. I normally just duked it out with people before. Not really sure on the rules. If there are any. Aside from maybe.. don't kill. That would be bad. Probably very bad."

"Well, my rules include no clawing my eyes out, and no other cheap shots such as that," She grinned, taking a few steps back to put some distance between them, pulling the chains of her weapon taut between her hands before laughing, "No killing sounds good to me too, although that is a given."
She took a rather defensive stance, readying herself.
"Sounds pretty straight forward. Gotcha. No cheap shots," Deryk agreed. At least this meant, he probably didn't have to worry about any nut shots. That would suck, hard.
Getting into stance, he got himself ready as well.
'Oh, stop whimpering!' She paused, eyeing the trainee before launching herself towards him, making sure she's not too close before taking a side step, swinging one side of her weapon out towards the back of his knee; she felt it connect, but it didn't feel like she had managed to use the full force of that attack...
She frowned, taking several steps back, her eyes never leaving her opponent; it would be bad to keep close to Deryk, given the nature of his weapon.
Seeing Ariane rush at him all of the sudden, Deryk moved back. It was a good thing he did as he felt one of the steel balls brush by his legs. That would have hurt like hell if that connected completely. He moved off to the side to see if he could avoid getting one of those balls right to his head, before slashing out with the hidden blade. The death trainee wasn't close enough to really do much damage, but he at least could nick her down a little.
"Not bad," She commented, ignoring the stinging pain to send her weapon towards the shoulder of the trainee, trying to get a decent hit in before withdrawing, keeping her stance; with any luck, she might even be able to somehow defend with the chains... Ugh, she still couldn't perfect that.
It was definitely going to be tricky to figure out how to fight Ariane with the sort of weapon she had. This proved to be rather true when he felt a hard, steel ball smack him hard in his side. Letting a grunt, he stumbled to the side. Man that hurt a fair amount.
"You're not so bad yourself," he grinned to her before charging in to try and stab into her leg.
"Why, thank you, Mr Bond," She grinned, wincing when she felt her leg being stabbed. Quickly, she brought the chains down on the back of his neck and pulled him down before trying to put some distance between them again, the pain in her leg making it difficult to move; it was something she would probably get used to though... In a while.
"No prior fighting experience," She grinned as Kintama begun to throb in her hand, preparing herself for the next strike, "Yet where we are, fighting like two people out of a video game..."
"No kidding. Pretty surreal if you think about it. Never would have imagined I'd be doing this months before coming here."
He would have said a week ago. But recently, Deryk had found out that he had been in that pod for nearly a year. It was... really wild to think about. A part of him had to wonder what all had happened in that year he had been asleep. Did Brotherhood ever come out? What of the Fifth Elderscrolls game? What was technology like now? The latest tech fads?
It was all a little irrelevant really.
Shoving the thoughts aside, he winced as he took another glancing blow before countering with a strike of his own.
Ariane tried to ignore her weapon, but it was hard to; he was whining and whining about the need to put out and how she wasn't putting out - yup, this was meant to gutter. Somehow, she managed to hold back, waiting for a good chance to strike as Deryk countered her.
She pulled back, putting quite some space between them before throwing her weapon at the new recruit, aiming for his legs; in mid flight, the chains on Kintama grew longer, until he hit the male. At once, the steel balls grew in size, becoming heavier as inertia allowed him to wrap around the trainee before bringing him - hopefully painfully - to the floor.
"Kintama!" She held out her hand, and the weapon around Deryk vanished, appearing in Ariane's hand in his desummoned form for a split second before turning back into his weapon form.
Deryk's eyes widened as he saw Ariane's weapon grow in size before it FLEW at him. He tried to scramble away, but it was a futile attempt. He ended up getting ensnared, causing him to crash to the ground as he tried to flee. Groaning, he pushed himself back up once he was free from the chains. That hurt a lot more than anything else he had been hit with thus far. Including from the other matches.
Nodding, Deryk rushed at Ariane. As he grew closer, Tooley began to glow green. A green, pointed aura appeared around her as he stabbed into his opponent.

Her eyes widened ever so slightly as Deryk recovered and came straight at her; she tried to avoid whatever he was going to do, but realized too late that his weapon was all charged up and... Although she was sure she had avoided the blade, somehow she still felt something pierce through her skin and into her flesh, and it hurt more than what he had been dishing out thus far.
'Ah, so that's what it is.'
"How's it like to use that?" She managed to break away, using the steel ball of her weapon to knock against her opponent's side. However, she was breathing heavily now, her eyes narrowed as she grinned from where she was standing.
"It's a rush for both weapon and wielder, that's for sure," She laughed before wincing at the sudden pain where Deryk had managed to hit her; for such a short blade, he was using it pretty effectively.
The thought just made her try to put some distance between them.
