User ImageThe sun was shining brightly, and most creatures with sense were snoozing in cool spots away from the harsh rays.

"Stupid freakin' deserts..."

Kiran, unfortuantely, wasn't a creature with a ton of sense to his name. Courage, oh my yes! He had that aplenty. Wit, strength, even perhaps honor if you didn't take the traditional viewpoint literally. But sense was something the young male was going to have to get with time, and experience would be his teacher.

Kiran cast a slightly grumpy look at the sky. He was sure his winged mom was up there somewhere, keeping an eye out on his to make sure he didn't do anything stupid. He snorted and looked ahead, trotting with a bit more determination in his step. He was a fully grown adult now, he hardly needed baby-sitting. You could survive just fine in the desert without wings, and in fact he liked to think that it made one tougher to have to go over the ground rather than just coasting around on the wind.

'Dunno what she's so fussy about, it's totally boring here,' Kiran thought, letting his golden eyes sweep the monotone landscape. The lack of worthy predators to fight thus far was astonishing, and if it wasn't for the fact that Kiran knew his winged mom was fine with him fighting to get stronger he'd have suspected her of chasing away all the good fights. Actually, he did suspect her just a tiny bit already...

Up ahead was a large stand of cactus'. Kiran grimaced, but steered his course to them anyway. He wasn't all that big on the way the stuff tasted, but it was a source of food and liquid and if nothing else was exciting about this place Kiran at least knew the chances of dying were high if he didn't drink enough. Deities, if Mom had to rescue him then Chandra would never let him hear the end of it.

Mind-step Kiran heard a faint rattling noise. His ears perked forward and his whole body suddenly went from bored to intense. He froze and listened. Yes, there it was, a faint rattling that was nothing like the more hissing sound that sand made when the wind blew it around. Kiran felt giddy with excitement. He'd heard of poisonous snakes that were more specific to desert regions, but he'd never seen them before. He didn't even think Odi had, and that right there was enough reason for him to want to take this sucker on!

Using the abundant cactus for cover, Kiran ghosted over the sand. His gold eyes searched all the nooks and shadows of the greenery, but whatever was causing this snake to set off his warning it wasn't Kiran. Once he got up to the cactus he began circling it, stepping just as softly and moving very slow so as not to attract any attention.

He'd gone about a quarter of a way around when movement caught his eye. Yes, there! It was definetly a snake, poisonous from the flat look of it's head, a mixture of browns that blended very well with the terrain. On the tip of it's tail, which it held in the air, was this weird knobby thing that the snake was vigorously vibrating, the source of the rattling sound. It was coiled up like it was ready to strike, and it hadn't seen Kiran at all!

'Too easy,' he thought, eyes never leaving the snake as he moved himself closer for a good pounce. 'Silly thing is even so close to the cactus that it'll only take one leap to be on top of it! Obviously these things don't understand the concept of hunting in groups.'

The snake's tongue flickered out, deadly eyes still fixed with menace on whatever first caught it's attention. It was beautiful in a cold way, the same cold beauty that all predators shared. Kiran himself probably had a similar look to him, his gold eyes promising death while his powerful muscles bunched and tensed, preparing to spring.

Needless to say the outcome of the fight was a given. Kiran's leap landed his front paws sqarely on the snake's neck, right behind it's head. Needle-sharp teeth joined his paws scarcely a second later, and a quick flick of his head resulted in several very satisfying crunching sounds.

Kiran shook the snake a bit more to make certain it was dead, the legend of poisonous snakes being able to still bite after death being something he'd really rather not take a chance on. He dropped the limp, bloodied body and steped a few paces away from it, looking up to finally see what the focus of its menace had been.

'Oh boy,' Kiran though, eyeing the vixen of grey and black with vivid color shooting in an odd pattern. "That wasn't a pet of yours, was it," he asked the vixen, really not looking forward to hysterics about how he killed Fluffy or something like that.

User Image There was a second where Viola thought she was going to grab some herbs for her tribe. Just a second. Now while Viola often considered leaving her tribe she also didn't want to leave her family, so she at times took a week long trip to find herbs, explore, and have fun. However, for just one second she was going to grab a rather nice, race herb. Or so she had thought. What she had not thought was going to happen was that a snake would slither out, lock its gaze on her, and hiss.

Then her thoughts had become fright. Pure fright. Flashes of memories as a kit being stuck in a pit with one single, harmless, small snake that at the time was her size flashed in her mind. Memories of crying, her sister killing it, and then clinging to her like a baby made their way forward. Memories of her father yelling, telling her to be more careful, of her mothers worried licks made her tremble. This snake wasn't harmless.

It was a rattler.

She knew better then to run, then again it wasn't a good idea to stay still. Hell. It was a bad idea to do anything for a fox was not supposed to encounter a rattler in the first place. Viola was sure she was dead. If Junko was here she would crush the snake. But Viola? She was frightened. She was to scared to get close!

She was scared! The snake was dangerously close, to close..... Her heart thudded and her body froze. Then suddenly it was...gone. Before her stood a beautiful male, a dead snake, and golden eyes that instantly became her favorite color ever. This man...he was....was...

"My guardian angel." She whispered, eyes widening. A prince had saved her! Her...her guardian angel! Before her was her angel! She flung herself at him, clinging tightly to the male and letting out a loud, frightened whine.

"I was so scared, Angel! Thank you! Thank you thank you thank you!" With this, she kissed her angel on the cheek, smiled, and hugged him again.

Okay, so the snake wasn't her pet. That was good. New problem though, the chick seemed to think he was a savior of some kind.

"Whoa whoa whoa," Kiran protested, trying to pull his head back so he could look down at the vixen clinging to him. "You got it alll wrong. I ain't an angel, I was just bored and thought the snake would make an interesting challenge."

Though when he thought about it he kinda did really help the female out. Huh, maybe he needed to work on his people skills more or something if he was thinking of killing for entertainment rather than helping. Nah, there were already plenty of do-gooders out there already, he'd just stay a jerk.

She giggled at this, shaking her head. "A modest angel?" She questioned, her head tilting to look up at him. Grinning at the pretty male the grey vixen spun around, face him, and swatted gently at him with her blue arm, her mouth pulled back in a elated grin.

"You don't need to be modest, you know." She chirped, smirking. "Daddy's really modest, he doesn't get half the credit he deserves and that isn't any fun. You saved my life! I'm in debt to you!" Wait wait wait, was this what a prince was like, rescuing damsels in distress? Oh my god.. was he her prince?

If Kiran wasn't creeped out by the stare she was giving him then nothing could, her eyes clearly said that he was some fantastical being that she was currently worshipping. Yes. Worshipping.

Wait, huh? When did he go from an angel to a daddy. Kiran raised an eyebrow, looking over the vixen like he thought she was crazy. "You spend too much time in the sun? It can addle your brains, ya know. When's the last time you had a meal or a drink of water?" Not that he really planned on being nursemaid to an addled vixen, but it wasn't like he could just leave her out here to die. He wasn't that big a jerk.

He began running through a mental list in his head. It wasn't the best time to hunt right now, all that was out in this area were poisonous things or things too small to really be worth the effort. Maybe he could find a watering hole and get the vixen something to drink and time to rest, and think about hunting them. She could at least eat something plant-based, it was better than nothing.

Eh? She blinked at him, tilting her head. "Daddy went out hunting yesterday, so I had food that afternoon. But I haven't eaten since." She looked up, head tilting. Suddenly, she grinned at him and bumped her head into his cheek.

"Is Angel hungry? Ah! I know where there is food!" She chirped, grinning sweetly at the male, licking his cheek before hopping away. "Just follow me!"

Ah, okay. She'd been talking about somebody else when she mention Daddy. That made a lot more sense. Wait, if what a sun-addled person was saying made sense to him did that make him sun-addled too, or did the sun just bestow some kind of amazing wisdom while it cooked your brain.

Bah, he was over-thinking this way too much. Maybe he did need to get out of the sun and relax as well.

"I'm more interested in shade than food," Kiran replied, following the female. She might know where shade was after all, and you didn't let crazy foxes run off into the desert on their own.

"Oi, you got a name or something?"

((XD Eventually he's gonna stop thinking she's crazy. ....Eventually.))

Grinning, Viola nodded at the male. "Shade, shade, shade~" Hopping almost, she nearly forgot he asked her name, though being the vixen she was she just tilted her head back.

"Well, yea. Doesn't everyone?" With a cheery smile, she flicked her tail casually at him, heading off. When she stopped she was sitting before a rather strange looking tree. If you asked her mother she'd say it was a blue palo verde, if you asked Viola she'd tilt her head and say simply it was a tree.

"Here, this gives off good shade~"

Kiran sat under the tree in the very edge of the shade, looking at the vixen from the corner of narrowed eyes with a hint of suspcion. "You ain't messin' with me, are ya," he asked. "You're not playing some elaborate game to drive me out of my sanity until I've gone native? Or are you just insane like this?"

He edged an inch away, aware he was being rude and not really caring. "Seriously, it's not contagious is it?"
PostPosted: Sat Jan 14, 2012 3:58 pm

She stared at him, her ears flicking in response. When he moved away she tilted her head, sighing lowly.

"Insane? I'm not insane, it's called being happy." She looked back at him, smiling softly. "Though, if you went native that'd be nice. Then I would always see my Guardian Angel." Now turning back to look at the sun, her tail flicked, yawning.

"Contagious? Being happy should be, then perhaps people wouldn't fight half as much. I could try and see if it is, perhaps try and rub it on you." Suddenly, an idea popped in her head, padding up to him and rubbing against him. "Feel happy yet?"

Kiran reached out and pressed a paw down between the female's shoulderblades, like how parents pinned errant kits down to the ground to hold the annoying buggers in place. "No. Stop that."

His brow was furrowed, golden eyes mildly frustrated. "Can it with the angel stuff too, would ya? Angels have wings and are all peaceful and whatever. I like fighting." He removed his paw from Viola, holding it up to show his sharp claws and quirking up his left eyebrow. "Dangerous," he said, carefully ephasizing each syllable in case the female didn't get it. If she wasn't sun-addled she was probably ditzy, which was just as bad or worse depending.

Kiran wasn't trying to be mean either. Seriously, unless the chick was hiding a secret, bloodlusting side to her she was eventually going to see his brutal side. He hated those wide-eyed looks of fear people got around him when they saw him do something particularly bloody. He wasn't a total brute, and unlike his half-brother he didn't have a problem with his bloodlust taking control of his senses. He was also an a** with no social skills or patience, that probably didn't help any...

((You can decide if he pushed Viola to the ground or if he just pushed her away.))

Before he could actually shove her down she slipped easily away, much like a snake. Once she settled a good distance from him she frowned, tail flicking at the tip.

"Angels can be dangerous." She grumbled softly, though she nodded. His claws only made her lip twitch into a smirk, tail wagging suddenly.

"You remind me of uncle. Well, you're more talkative and social, but Uncle Sin has large claws and often says he's dangerous, too." She paused for a second. With a sigh, soft and unsure, she flopped onto her belly.

"Well you aren't bad, because you killed that nasty snake. So I'm not afraid of you being "dangerous". Claws or not, Mister."

"Name's not Mister. Mister is what you call old or boring dudes." Kiran flopped into a sitting position, taking on a lazy slouch. "Call me Kiran."

Maybe if she knew his name and he just....left the angel thing alone, she'd drop it.

He glanced up at the sky, lifting a paw to scratch at his neck. "Sin? Name sounds familiar." Then he shrugged, dismissing it. He knew he had a ton of relatives via his short mom's side of the family, a few related by blood and a ton related by common relations. He'd stopped paying attention two names into the thing.

WIth a shrug, Viola hummed pleasantly when he gave her his name. Tail flicking lazily, her eyes locked on him, curiously sniffing the air for his scent, tail twitching at the tip. Hm. He smelt familiar, but not in a way that she'd know him. Flipping hair from her face, the vixen yawned quietly before responding,

'Uncle Sin used to run a tribe named Cruor, perhaps you heard of that?" Blinking, she realized how rude she was being. He had given her his name, after-all.

"My name is Viola~ Pleasure to meet you!"

Ah, well that suddenly made a lot more sense.

"Oh yea, I've heard of that," Kiran said thoughtfully, looking over at Viola. "My half-brother was part of it. Said he met his mate there but she wasn't part of the tribe or whatever, and he went through a bit of a rough patch with her and the elder and blah blah blah." He shrugged, losing his interest.

Kiran hadn't had much to do with Ara, Odi's mate, and the story never really interested him all that much. He prefered stories of battle and adventure. A few names and facts did stick with him though.
