In the past Imnir had boasted about fighting in the illegal pits, but he had never actually done it. Now that he was here, it was rather strange. Part of it was that he wasn't used to fighting here, but most of it was how... Shady it all seemed. There were no deafening shouts from a massive crowd, cheering him on. The spectators were few, and though enthusiastic, were far more quiet than those he was used to.
It was unnerving.
Imnir shook it off and stepped into the ring, barely waiting for the "go" before racing toward his opponent. The place might be different, the stakes might be higher, but he would fight the way he knew how just the same.

Maurea was under no illusion as to why she'd been brought here. It wasn't for money, unless her owner had decided to bet against her: and that was poor odds, since she was by far the less experienced fighter here. That's why she had come: to get more experience, and to get more experience fighting dirty. These fights didn't always end with both Mokai getting up and walking away, after all.
So when they'd made a quiet trip, in the late hours of the night, down to a pit in the city, rather than the main compound - she knew something was up. There weren't many men surrounding the makeshift pit, as her handler led her up to the ring, and the place - to put it bluntly - stank of old blood, fear, and aggression.
The female stepped into the ring, eyes narrowed, and focused on her opponent: a stocky brown Mokai with strange, curly horns that she's seen only sparingly around the compound, when she wasn't by her handler's side. Her handler quickly clipped the ring form her leash, and she rushed towards the oncoming Mokai, snarl bubbling in her throat as she tried to meet him fang-to-fang.

Imnir grunted and yet out a howl of pain as they collided and he found that his opponent was not only quick, but had a devastating bite. He hadn't expected that, he had never even seen this fighter before, she shouldn't be drawing first blood on him! Imnir snarled and snapped his jaws at anything he could reach. He wasn't about to lose, even with a poor start like this.
If he had anything to say about it, he would never lose again.
Even now he could feel blood on his coat, but the pain was lessening with each second as adrenaline filled his system, adrenaline and anger. This wasn't a normal fight, he didn't have to fight fair, and obviously this other mokai knew that as well.
No holding back, not anymore.

She tasted the slightly metallic tang of blood on her muzzle, and knew that she'd scored - she'd managed to sink her teeth right into his muscular shoulder. As he began to thrash, she grimly hung on, silently swearing at the difficulty: he was much stronger than she was, and she found her grip loosening swiftly as he snapped at her. His manic attack finally won through: she choked off a yelp as his teeth connected with her ear, and dropped him entirely as pain coursed through her skull. Snarling, she frantically tried to bat at his head with a wild paw, not wanting to tug back - it felt as if he'd tug her bloody ear off.

Imnir bit down hard as soon as he felt something between his jaws. He growled, irritated, when he realized it was only an ear. Sure, it would hurt a lot, but it wasn't real damage. He needed something else, he needed to make sure this mokai couldn't score another good hit on him the way she just had. He released her ear and thrust himself forward with his hind legs, head lowered to make use of his horns.

The blow wasn't precisely unexpected, but Maurea unfortunately didn't have a lot of choice but to endure it, struggling to keep her legs from simply folding out beneath her as he rammed the air straight out of her lungs by the direct hit to her side. The pain at the side of her head eased - but she staggered a few steps away from him, wheezing for breath, needing a moment to compose herself before going back at him. In fighting, however - you didn't have a moment.

There now, that was better. Now that he had her reeling, Imnir knew that he could end this quickly and hopefully not risk too much harm to himself in the process. That wound on his shoulder was going to be a pain for quite some time, but that didn't matter now, that would matter after.
After he won.
As his opponent moved away Imnir continued forward, ready to slam full-force into her and pin her against the wall. There would be no escape if he could manage that.

She drew a ragged breath, feeling her lungs start to work again, and took a few greedy gasps of air. Out of the corner of her eye, Maurea could see the Mokai charging at her full-tilt; fortunately, she was able to shift her pose so that she was facing him when he did ram her against the chest. Snapping down at him, trying to gain purchase on an ear - a throat - anything - she found herself slammed right up against the wall. A strangled wheezing noise came from the black-and-white female, and it was pretty clear that she had had the wind clean knocked out of her again. Damnit! Frustration and rage showed clearly in her light blue eyes as she struggled against his tight grip.

Imnir felt her jaws snapping at the back of his neck, she even got a pretty decent hold of him until the wind was knocked out of her again. He grunted and growled through the pain. It was necessary, he had to just keep pushing through it in order to win, and to get this advantageous position. Once she was pinned Imnir clamped his jaws onto her shoulder, returning the little present she had given him at the beginning of the match.
An eye for an eye, as it were.

By the time she got enough breath back to growl at him, pain spreading like fire through her shoulder, it was more or less over: she was beat. Panting, mouth open, she offered him a weak snarl more of frustration than anger, and adrenaline slowly fading from her body as she slumped against the wall, still pinned there forcefully by his own body. He'd bitten deep into her shoulder, but he didn't seem keen on trying to kill her - which she supposed was a blessing in and of itself.
Maurea went limp in defeat, eyeing him warily as the match came to an end.

Imnir felt her go limp and he took a step back, allowing her some space and eying her curiously. That was it? That was the vicious pit match he had been anxiously looking forward to all this time? He wondered for a moment if he should be stopping, if this might be a trick so she could lunge at his throat and kill him, but it didn't seem to be.
"Train some more before coming back." He grunted, "Or you'll end up hurt." With that he turned and walked away, heading over to Naomi who eagerly awaited his return, even amongst the other humans trying to talk to her about her fighter and the money involved with these illegal matches. She wanted to make sure he was safe above all that, and that was why he was so willing to fight for her.
If he had to, he'd die for her.

Icy blue eyes narrowed at the other's words, but she said nothing in response, only picked herself up off the ground as he let her go. Her entire body hurt, and breathing was still difficult - but that was little matter. She'd lost, and this would teach her not to get complacent from winning her first match. The lesson was a good one, so early on. Her softly-rounded ears curled back against her skull, and she quickly turned her back on the brown-furred Mokai, heading back toward the other side of the pit and trying not to limp.
Next time, she'd be ready for him.
