The Winter Chant Pack dates back even before the time of the Hinterlands. Ancestor of Niflheim, Wall-e and Bakura reigned the forests during the war between wolves and humans. Odin's name was either a chant amoung a crowd, a song of glory-days. Or a name that would send shudders up the spines of those who turned their backs to the old wolf.
He was born along the side of Ish, the wolf who had learned a way to contact the humans. In which he gave her a lot of respect. He was one of the first wolves to be persuaded that the war wasn't really all they could live for.
The bond between Ish and Odin shines through their families still. As Rune, Descendant of Ish and Halushk, Descendant of Odin still show a length in friendship.
Odin was given the position of the Faoir when the war was settled between humans and wolves, a rank insisting that he was the "All Father" of the Alphas in the Hinterlands. A rank that would insist he could overthrow another Alphahood, or question an Alpha to the point no other wolf could. Because of such an extensive power, The Winter Chants had to move from their main packing lands beside the Einherjars.
Becoming the known Nomads of the land, Odin granted his only son the next Faoir. Through years, females and males born in the blood of Odin became Faoir's.. Granting Haluhsk the position by his mother while his brothers hold rank in Einherjar alongside his father.

Ranking System
The Faoir - The First Alpha • A rank the Faoir is chosen to be by his/her parent. It is a rank that has stayed in "The Grey" family since the beginning of the Hinterlands' reign. And it will do so for centuries to come. The heir is given to the daughter/son that shows the main characteristics of an All-Leader.
The Faoir must be trusted by other pack Alphas as well, and has to generally be a very common sensual wolf.
If Faoir takes over another pack, that pack must stop and listen to the Faoir. However, the Alpha(s) of that pack have word in things as well. (Well Opinions the Faoir MUST listen to even if he doesn't take them.)
The Alpha - The Second Alpha • In the Winter Chants, there's one "Alpha Rank" aside from the Faoir. They must be only selected by the Faoir. They're much like the Betas of most pack, and will learn how to run the pack by the Faoir's wishes and no others. They must listen to the Faoir. But other then that they are the leader of the pack when the Faoir is working with another pack. The Alpha must keep the Faoir in touch with his pack and tell him/her news when they return from their 'little adventures'.
The Betas • Maintain the pack when there is no Alpha and the Faoir is not present. If the Alpha has personal issues to attain to they will also be there for when the Alpha is not around.
These wolves have the most honour, because it is in their rights to fix the 'wrongs' the pack has issued. They are also incharge of maintaining the food-keep of the pack.
The Sicht• Are the seers, because the Faoir IS the balance between man and wolf, Sicht are well known to be in the Winterchants.
The Gammas • There are three Ranks that can be filled by the Gammas: Lore Keepers(Story Tellers), Guardians(Guard the pack and Guard the denning systems during breeding time from afar.) and the Hunters. (They uh. Hunt for food with the Betas).
Also, Gammas have other roles... They are called the movers or scouts. They are incharge of finding the nomads a place to settle. They accept the challenge of being far from their pack for a long time to be essential in finding a place to hold pups and their Faoir. Every season (sometimes half a season) the Faoir moves to another part of the lands. These wolves will have to go away often. Most times, these wolves mate within the Scout rank, as they spend a lot of their time together. The pups are then kept with the females until 2 months, and then are weened off their mother and onto an Omega. When Adolescent, if the wolves wish to take up the rank of Scout. They leave with their parents to learn.
There are the Leads within the Gammas as well; There will be at least 2 appointed to these roles.
The Lead Guardians
The Lead Hunters
The Lead Lore Keepers (Can also be Omegas)
The Omegas • Are essentially the caretakers. They can uphold the role of scholar.. and Lore Keeper as well.
The Scholars• Are all Half-Pack besides the one scholar that is a Winter Chant. Scholars are Omegas or Lone Wolves who keep an eye on their pack/a pack close to the Lone Wolves' denning area or a pack they are half-pack too..
If something goes wrong, the Scholar must go and seek out Halushk, with this there are usually 1-3 Scholars each pack. Lone Wolf Scholars can be Scholars to more then one pack, which helps when they know where Halushk is in the large continent.
Scholars who are Omegas are historians, though they gain information from the lones when Halushk is not within the pack's vicinity... They will teach the kin around them the history of the Hinterlands.
*Many Lone Wolves are welcome to travel with the pack. But leave when want to.*
