The letter would arrive a day later when she wrote it. It wasn't sealed with a kiss but here's what it said:

Edel.

Dear Moure,

I hope you have been well. I pray that Chives and Snow have been behaving themselves under your care, the little doe does get a little skittish at times. The train ride has been quite smooth so far; the Deadwood forests are a beautiful scenery I may never tire of. It will be a long trip back, I do hope I get to write to you again before I arrive back home.

How has school been so far? Security has been unbearably tight, this I am not afraid to admit even though they could be reading this. (I hope they don't though.) Has anything of interest been happening lately? It is regrettable that I have to miss out on the classes and activities for the next two weeks.

I forgot to mention this the other day; since it would be quite impossible to receive a reply while I'm travelling, it would be better to send your letters to the address I've attached. I look forward to your replies, and I promise to write as often as I can! Send my love to the two little ones, Straye and Gibraltar too will you?

Love,
Edel

A second letter would arrive a few days later, the words were less scrawled and neater – from the writing itself, it was clear that the ghoul had written it in a place that was not on the train. The recipient might be a little disappointed to find that the letter was shorter than the first, and carried some rather grim news.

Quote:
Dear Moure,

I have arrived home safely.

It seems they intend to keep everyone quiet about it.

I hope you are well, Gibralter and Straye too.

Love,
Edel

The ghoul had intended to be as ambiguous as possible, whether or not the patchwork boil might be able to decipher what she had meant depended on him. It was clear that the frost demon still felt a sense of paranoia that the boogeymen would read the letters coming in. Either way, the subject was something she wished to discuss in private, face to face.

Moure had gotten the first letter a few days after it'd been sent. He'd been pacing in his room when Gibralter had alerted him to the fact that there was, in fact, something in his mail drop. Wary that it might be another letter from Cphira, Moure hesitated to retrieve it, but eventually moved to his box and checked inside. His relief was evident when he discovered that the letter was not from his creator, but was instead from Edel. He found himself grinning and humming as he moved back into the room, opening the letter and sitting at his desk to read it.

After reading through the letter once, twice, three times, eyes drifting back to the 'love Edel' at the bottom each time, Moure picked up a pen and a piece of paper, duly following her advice to send the letter ahead to her residence, since she'd get there soon. The letter would was dated to the day her first letter had arrived at his dorm, although oddly enough, it would not arrive at the Frost Demon's home for some time due to the incompetency of the gnomes handling the outgoing mail. It said:

Moure

Dear Edel,

I've been well, as well as possible anyway. I hope you're having a pleasant time on your ride home. Your pets have been behaving well, and I hope you don't mind that I introduced Gib to them. (He wouldn't let me go without them whenever I went to take care of them.) I've never been to the Deadwood forests, but I'm sure that they're as beautiful as you've said. In any case, I hope you're having a good time.

School's been the same as always. Thanks for asking though. Do you really think that the letters have been monitored? When I got it, it didn't seem like anyone had tampered with it (past the usual abuse caused by the gnomes, of course), but maybe they're just masters at such actions. Not much as happened, though. You haven't missed much, in any case, besides classes, I think.

I hope I send this to the right address. In any case, if you're reading this, that means you should be home now, right? So, I'm glad you've arrived home safely! I can't wait to hear back from you. I do hope you're having fun while you're home, though. And Gib and Straye appreciate the love. I hope you're being able to reunite with friends back home. And thank you for the letter!

Love,
Moure

A few days after sending off his letter, another came. With a bounce in his step, Moure retrieved the letter and set about reading it. His giddy disposition, however, faded upon reading it, eyebrows furrowing and a little frown forming. After some moment, it occured to Moure that she was talking about the fieldtrip and the boogeymen and everything else that those things were related to. Fetching a pen and paper, he sat to write out the next letter, trying to make it as ambiguous as Edel's had been. This letter was sent out shortly after Edel's second one was recieved, and said:

Moure

Dear Edel,

I'm glad you've gotten home safely. Did you get my other letter yet? I hope the gnomes down in the mailing department didn't eat it.

I'm sorry to hear that. I know that some people are taking advantage of those newspaper articles, too. I hope it hasn't effected your life back home too badly.

I hope the same for you. Please be safe and well.

Love,
Moure

The two letters arrived at the same time after a very very very long ride from halloween town to her residence. As for why she received them even later than expected - who is to say that her attendants did not take turns to gape at the letter addressed to her and pass it around. It may also have landed in the hands of her very startled Father who despite all curiosity, eventually handed her the letter without peeking inside. Alright, he might have caught a glimpse of a "Love, Moure" when he held the letter in the envelope under the lamp light. He was obviously rather worried after that.

As for Edel, the ghoul could only give her attendants a disapproving look and to her father, one of curiosity. She probably figured out why after leaving for her room and opening the letter, immediately flushing at those two words. She would have a word with those attendants later.

Edel read those letters again and again and over again. It had only been a few days... perhaps a week that she'd been gone but she missed him already. As for going back? She was now slightly more optimistic about it given her father's responses thus far. However, she still had some work to do.

Picking up her quill and dipping it into the bottle of ink, the ghoul began to write.

Edel.

Dear Moure,

I'm so sorry about the delayed response, there were some complications involved regarding the arrival of your letters. I'm glad to hear that you're doing alright! It's also nice to hear that Chives and Snow have been behaving, Gib is such a dear.

Now that you've mentioned it, I think the letters are alright... at least from the boogeymen. I cant say for sure if anyone is peeking into the letters from you before it gets to me! It's an embarrassing invasion of privacy I know, but I'll try to prevent it as much as I can.

Regarding my return to school, my father has been rather... neutral for now, I'm not sure. He definitely was mad with the newspaper article and is concerned about the school's safety, but he has yet to decline my return as of yet. Meanwhile I'll be trying to bring that topic up rather gently, but for now I'm studying and training my ice craft. My father, while adamant about not teaching me how to fight, has given me some rather good advice. I'll be taking this time to improve myself and get stronger... I think all of us should...

Thank you for your kind concern Moure, I hope you stay safe too.

Love,
Edel

Edel, just to be sure, skied down the mountain herself to drop the letter off at the post box located at the train station. Far far away from prying eyes and a very, very perturbed father.

When Gibralter had brought to Moure's attention that he had another letter waiting, the patchwork had practically run to the mailbox, eager to hear back from the Frost Demon. (While there was still a slight worry that it might be another letter from his creator, now he was nearly certain that any incoming mail would be of a more welcome sort.) Plucking the letter up, he stared at it as if to relish it's existence, and the fact that it was from Edel, and then headed back toward his room. Gibralter perched on Moure's shoulder as he slit open the envelope and sat down on the edge of his bed, the boogeymon curiously peering over the letter as if trying to understand the the words even though he couldn't read. Moure reached up and pet the minimon's head as he read Edel's letter, happy to be hearing back from her. He knew the gnomes must've delayed his letters when she mentioned some kind of complication.

When Edel also mentioned that someone in her home might be reading the letters first, Moure quickly tried to think back to what he'd written, hoping he hadn't somehow embarassed her. Nope, nothing there to hide, nothing he should worry about an estate worker read--

Wait.

He'd signed it with love, hadn't he?

Immediately upon realizing that, his face grew a little red. What if someone saw that? Was that what she was talking about? He hoped she hadn't gotten into any trouble for receiving letters with such an ending. Moure's sentiments were true, but he hoped it hadn't embarrassed her.

He looked back to the letter and continued reading, pushing those thoughts to the back of his mind. Nothing he could do about it now. After he finished reading, he slipped over to his desk and pulled out some paper and a pen and set to work.

Moure

Dear Edel,

Don't worry about the letter being late. I'm sure mine took a while to get to you, so it's more of my fault than your's, in any case. It's good to hear that you're doing well up at home. Gibs appreciates the sentiment, too.

Oh, really? I haven't embarrassed you have I? I'm so sorry if I have! I wish you luck with your endeavor to protect the letters, in any case.

Well, at least he hasn't told you no, right? I think that newspaper was seriously just trying to rile everyone up. In any case, how is your ice craft doing? And I think maybe you're dad's trying to help you without actually saying he's helping you? I'm sure he just wants to keep you safe. Of course, I don't know him, so my guess might be way off base...

You're always welcome to it. Anyway, it was nice to hear from you, and I hope you stay safe too.

Love,
Moure

The last letter she wrote probably got lost in the mail or something. Either way, it wasn't very legible due to all the jerking from the train making its way downhill. The letter basically consisted of the words “Dear Moure“ , “I'm fine” and “I'll be coming back soon.” Unfortunately, the patchwork would never receive it but he could be rest assured that she was in deed coming back.

After all, someone was out there knocking on his door to pick her minipets up a few days later.
