R'yn was hurrying to the kitchens. The bronzerider was absolutely starving! Of course, one might have wondered where he put everything he ate (for he was always eating), as he had a tiny form; both height wise and width wise. It was one of those inbetween meals times that he always dreaded; but surely the workers had something cooking? They usually did. He came to a stop just before entering the kitchens to take a breath.

He entered, pushing his hair out of his face, and attempting to look as suave as possible. After all, Sella might have been working that day--and she was only a turn older than he was. Not that he had any interest in her, no. They were friends. She'd always made him bubblypies when he'd been younger.

As he walked in, however, he nearly bumped into a much taller man. "Shards, sorry!" he said quickly. He really had to stop doing that. He was so clumsy... He nervously fingered the knots on his shoulder; a habit he'd formed during his candidacy.

T'nus was never more comfortable (except, of course, on dragonback) than he was in a kitchen. He was raised by a cook. As a child, he spent much of her time helping her in the kitchens. By now, it was just force of habit. Plus, it came in handy. Since Lavi didn't like to eat when there were big groups of people around, she tended to miss most meal times. T'nus's ability to whip up a meal for them at any hour of the day was a real life saver.

He had the water boiling and had been chopping some meat to put into a stew when something bumping his arm from the side. The knife was knocked out of his hand, but fortunately after a couple grabs he managed to catch it again. He breathed a quick sigh of relief, and turned to see what the cause of the sudden movement was. But before he looked, he heard a voice apologizing, and answered reflexively, "Ah, not a problem, not a problem."

He turned around and glanced down at the short teen. It was the senior weyrling who had shown him and Lavi around the weyr when they arrived! T'nus started laughing. This scene had a very familiar feeling to it! In fact, he could remember himself saying the exact same words not more than a few days ago. "Oh, it's you again. We're beginning to make a habit of this, aren't we?" He gave the young rider a quizzical look. He knew he knew it, but he couldn't quite remember the young man's name. "I want to say.. R'yn, or.. R'yan?" he guessed, talking partially to himself.
His dragon is Gereth. Azimuth informed him.
Yes, thank you, Azimuth.

"R'yn," the boy smiled at T'nus, clearly pleased to have been remembered. "I didn't expect anyone to be awake this early," he said, clearly puzzled. He himself was very rarely awake before--well, before he got into trouble. "I'm sorry," he repeated. "T'nus, right? You must be getting ready for the wingmeeting coming up?" He covered his mouth with a hand and hid a yawn.

"Gereth woke me up especially early claiming T'rel was already at the bowl, but when I got there, there was no one there. And it was freezing." R'yn wrinkled his nose, shaking his head. The young bronzerider hated mornings. He especially hated mornings when it was cold. "I imagine T'rel will be calling us soon." He looked around the kitchen, and then went to make himself a mug of klah. "Do you want some?" he asked.

"Ah, R'yn. Of course." he said, pleased to have remembered too. He nodded. "That's right. We're pretty early risers, me and Azimuth. Him especially." Well, actually, it was Xenith, but the light sleeping bronze always woke the moment she did.
"I'm making some food for me and.. ah, you remember Lavi, right?"

T'nus listened, but resumed working. Part way through, he started laughing. "Trust me, it's not cold. I don't think Ista is capable of cold." he chuckled.
But he was a little puzzled that R'yn knew about the wing meeting. When they'd met before, T'rel introduced him as a senior weyrling. Were weyrlings going to wing-meetings too here? "Oh! You must have graduated recently, right?" he said, the thought just coming to him. "Congratulations on that, then."

He turned off the heat just as R'yn went to get a mug of klah. He tapped the spoon on the edge of the pot and tasted it. Not bad, if he did say so himself. Although Lavi, he was certain, would eat it no matter how it tasted. Especially since she never managed to get anything last night. "Sure, I'd like some." he said gratefully. He lifted the pot of stew that was now nearly done. "And how about you, would you like some? I made plenty." he offered.

Good Morning Gareth. Azimuth said politely, since he was always polite to other dragons, unless they gave him a specific reason to be otherwise. Did you sleep well?

"Of course," R'yn said with a smile. He always remembered a pretty woman's name. "Your pretty weyrmate?" He paused and gave a shiver. "It's freezing," he muttered. "I don't know how Fort does it. We'd all freeze with their weather."

"I did," the bronzerider beamed at the older man. "T'rel's always forgetting, though," he rolled his eyes. He didn't seem too bothered about it, however. "Probably makes him feel old or something. We graduated last sevenday. Thank you!" R'yn was always delighted at the reminder that he was no longer a weyrling. He finished making his klah, and then started T'nus'. He offered it to the man with a smile. "Here you are," he said. "Oh, I'd love some," he said gratefully. He had been planning on waiting for breakfast until after the wingmeeting, but this was definitely better.

Good morning, Azimuth, Gereth responded cheerfully. I slept well. Did you?

T'nus smiled broadly at the compliment. A perfect example of how, once you made a good impression with him, nothing could ever sway his opinion of you. If T'rel had said that, T'nus would not be nearly as amused. "Ah, she is, isn't she?" he muttered to himself fondly. She'd never let anyone say so, though. She was far too bashful.

"Yeah.." he wasn't sure how he did manage it. He'd only been in Ista a few days and he already couldn't imagine going back to such harsh winters in comparison. "It's freezing there!"

He took the mug gratefully. "Thanks, and here." T'nus scooped out a bowl of stew and handed it to R'yn. "Not a very morning thing.. is it?" he said, regretfully. He never really thought about it, since he never cooked for anyone but Lavi or himself. "But- it'll warm you up at least." he went on cheerfully.

One might wonder, since he was only cooking for the two of them, why he always made so much? But the fact of the matter was, T'nus didn't know himself. Perhaps it was a habit from when he worked as a cook and had a whole weyr to feed, or maybe he was subconsciously wishing Lavi would eat more. Either way, it was usually had to be given away in some manner similar to this, so T'nus didn't mind sharing.

I did. Very well, thank you. It is really so nice here.

R'yn shivered at the very thought of being in a place so cold. "I hate cold mornings," he complained. "We always have to wake up so early," he added with a shrug. "Drills, drills. T'rel's a good Weyrleader, but if he allowed us to sleep in once in awhile..." R'yn sighed wistfully.

He took the bowl offered to him, and grinned. "It's fine," he said. "Normally I just have a bubblypie or something quick." He took a spoonful of it, and tasted it thoughtfully. "It's delicious," he grinned again. T'nus was right, it really did warm him up. "Thank you."

It is good that you slept well, Gereth said. We will be working hard this morning. I look forward to seeing you in action.
