Ariane kept mostly quiet the whole way, although her arm never left the new recruit's shoulder - partially because she couldn't help but wonder what eating one of those cookie would do to her. Sure, she was not about to allow Ryan to win, but on the off chance that he does...? She did not want to humiliate herself, please, and she had heard that eating one of those cookies was like taking a shot of vodka when you're not used to drinking.
All in all, it just meant that she had to win this little spar.
"Alright," She finally spoke, although it was also because they had reached their destination, "Rules - if your opponent is already knocked out or is incapable of battle, that's the end of the spar. Next, weapons are allowed, as are your hands and legs. However, no biting or clawing..." Seriously, be civilized.
"Any questions?" She blatantly ignored Kintama's comment, humming as she let go of Ryan and walked away. Once she was a good distance away, she tugged at the necklace around her neck - really her weapon's desummoned form - and suddenly, that same hand was wrapped around the chains of a double ball-and-chain weapon. Immediately, she took an offensive stance, the chains stretched out between two hands to block any possible incoming attacks.
"Utilize your weapon, and come at me whenever you're ready," She grinned, her eyes never leaving her opponent.

Ryan eyed the training ground with a hint of curiosity. It looked, for the most part, pretty decent. Save for the occasional blood stain--which was to be expected, it was actually pretty nice and well... since he was now a trainee, he was going to have to get used to it.
He listened to the rules nodding now and again before speaking.
"Sounds fair." he agreed, wincing a little when she summoned her weapon.
That... looks like it will hurt to get hit by... What are those?

There was a bright flash of red and soon his arms were once again covered by the red gauntlets.
"Umm... Might have to break the no scratching rule." He said with a weak smile and flexed his clawed fingers.
:I think she just means don't do any cheap shots, Ryan.:
Gotcha'.
Taking in a breath, he leaped forward and moved in for the first strike.

"Just leave my eyes alone," She laughed at his response, leaping back to try to avoid being hit; unfortunately, she was too slow and ended up being scratched. There was a brief moment of pain, but it soon faded - she would have to be more careful... If it hurts like this now, with the fear shield up completely, she could only imagine how bad it would hurt if her fear shield was on the verge of vanishing.
"Leave the face alone too," She added before taking a quick step forward, closing up the space between them and swinging her weapon forward, trying to hit Ryan with the steel ball with the momentum gained.

"Got it!" He answered back, pulling his claws away and leaving a trail of blood through the air; watching as it hit the ground in a splattered line.
To be honest he was actually surprised he even landed a hit.
:Ryan! To your left!:
He was too late to dodge it, or even block it as the ball connected with his shoulder, causing him to hiss out a pained breath.
That--is something I don't want to experience twice... he admitted, as he briefly pressed his hand against it, removing it shortly after as he chanced a look.
No blood... But it was definitely going to bruise.
:You can check your injuries later. Attack now before she hits you again, idiot!:
Ryan gave the weapon a mental tsk, as he jumped to the side and swiftly moved around back, striking at her again without hesitation.

'As long as this fear shield holds? I see nothing permanent in the future.' She had to admit that the boy's attacks were getting to her though; she wasn't sure how she was allowing such a short ranged weapon to actually get close enough to get a strike in, but she was clearly going soft if she was failing this badly!
"Not bad," It wasn't really a straight up compliment, but Ryan would learn that generally nice comments like those hardly left her lips, "You sure you're new at this?" She laughed, trying to keep her distance while aiming to hit her opponent - sadly, it only grazed him this time as she stayed back, cautious.

Ryan gave her a sheepish grin, jumping back and regaining distance between them both. Which to be honest, considering his weapons were short range and hers could be used as long range, it was probably a dumb move on his end.
"Well, yeah... since I only just woke up this morning... Before coming here my life has been pretty mundane." he paused. "Err, if I exclude the usual spooks and stuff. To be honest, other than the trials, I've never really fought anyone before and I only vaguely remember the trial. Only enough to remember bits and pieces..." He admitted, blocking the attack with one of his gauntlets.
It glanced off, but due to the sheer force behind it, it still hurt like hell.
Once the way was clear, he ran forward again, this time dropping to the ground and doing a low spin kick, aiming for the back of her knees.

"Mundane? Sounds like my life," She laughed despite the pain, despite the injuries... She was actually having fun; during her last spar - with Candace and that one scythe - she was in much more pain, but that wasn't why it was not fun at all... The reason was that it was one of those fights where she couldn't respect her opponent at all.
Ryan though? She could put up with him.
"Things are far from mundane here," She sounded worryingly cheerful, "I'm sure you'll adapt just fine~" Her grip on the chains of her weapon tightened as she felt his kick connect, sending her to the ground in a kneeling position, "My my, come, the air here is fresher."
She pushed herself off the ground so that she was only on one knee, giving her more balance as she quickly swung one end of her weapon at Ryan; the steel ball made a turn as she tried to catch onto his ankle to trip him; either it worked or not, the chains were sure to hurt.

"Really? Is that a good or bad thing?" He asked. She sounded cheerful... but for all he knew, she could be the sort who enjoyed getting into fights.
Unfortunately, his question was going to have to wait, as she swung her weapon at him in an attempt to trip him.
It worked.
The chain caught around his ankle, sending him crashing to ground with a thud.
:That was graceful.: Locke chirped into his mind, obviously amused.
Ryan ignored him and instead clawed at the ground as he kicked the chains loose and leaped back onto his feet, wincing a little when his foot met the ground.
That hurt more than he expected...
"...Thanks for the encouragement." He said, the corner of his lip twitching up into a partial smile, just a second before he struck at her again. This time choosing to aim for her arm--anything to make swinging those meteor hammers more difficult.

"You-" She winced when her arm was hit, taking a second to collect herself before springing back onto her feet, trying to ignore the throbbing pain she felt on her arm, "-Really, really do not like cookies, do you?"
She went into defense mode again, hanging back, watching.
Go at her, bro.

Ryan couldn't help the wide grin that spread across his face.
"Nah, I don't have anything against them." He shrugged.
To be honest, he felt like he should apologize. If he had hit a girl back home, his family would have clobbered him. Yet, here he was clawing and kicking one. Still, this was a different life entirely and he doubted anyone was going to obey this unwritten rule. Not if they wanted to live.

He gave him a mental nod. Slowly circling the girl, before darting forward again a second later; claws ready and waiting.

This time, she was ready.
When he came at her, she pushed back using her chains, using them to protect herself; the force he used still managed to cause her some hurt, but at least she didn't have more claw marks on her. Immediately after, she kicked out, not really aiming for any place in particular-
'... I'm not that low, Kintama,' She frowned before stepping back, still in a defensive stance. She paused, breathing heavily, "You sure? Seems to me like you have something against cookies." She was grinning though, as she said that.

Ryan coughed when her foot connected with his stomach, knocking the wind out of him.
"No, really... I don't." He answered honestly, an arm wrapped around his stomach as he tried to re-gain his breath and jumped back. "Though I have to admit... I am curious to see why you made those cookies from the cafeteria as the losers prize." He grinned again, moving forward again, when his foot hit the ground.
Though this time, he dodged to the right, striking her twice in the side with two strong jabs.

She winced, bending over at the hits, the breath knocked out of her lungs; she could feel herself weakening, and the cuts were starting to hurt more with every move. However, she wasn't about to go down without a fight.
"You'll see soon enough, at this rate," She gave a strained laugh, straightening up and punching Ryan on his shoulder, where she was sure she had hit him with her weapon before, a grin on her lips, "Not today though - I'm sure we could both use a rest."

"Ow shi---!" He hissed, clutching at his shoulder. The dull ache now felt like it was on fire. He was definitely going to be looking for an ice pack after this. Though first he had to see this through.
Curling his hand into a fist, he whipped his arm around and straight into her stomach, returning the favor.

She winced and swore loudly at the hit to her stomach, grinning up at him, staying bent over for a moment before inhaling sharply, wincing again when that that caused everything to ache. She allowed herself to flop to the floor on her butt, clutching her stomach as she regulated her breathing, "Rain check. Cookie rain check." She wasn't sure why she was grinning, but she was.
"Now, you gotta stand there or help me to my room, Ryan?" She raised an eyebrow at him, holding out a hand towards him.
