After that (somewhat) disaster of a welcoming party - or whatever it had been - Tedan was almost tempted to just stay in his room for the rest of the day. But after about ten minutes or so of lying on the bed staring at the ceiling, he got restless and sighed, moving to grab his coat again. Might as well explore the place a bit, right?

"Hey, Ardavan, you know anything about this place? Is there somewhere I can maybe get a drink?"

"Damn, that sucks .... what do you mean I don't have to talk out loud? Am I just supposed to think at you?" There was almost no break between word and thought and he got the distinct feeling that his weapon was rolling non-existent eyes at him.

And with that, Tedan headed out of his room, then out of the dorm building entirely. Maybe he could find someone else to ask about things like, oh. Food, and alcohol and other such important items. Maybe some posters or something to put in his room. It was kinda bare in there.

Ennéa was sitting up on the dorm roof as per usual. It wasn't quite like being up in the huge elm tree she always used to climb back home -- for one it was a lot colder with the winds blowing off the ocean -- but it was close enough.

That and Baraz still liked being perched up high, despite no longer hanging any wings.

Mmm, this is nice. Baraz said sleepily as the sun briefly came out from behind the clouds and shone down on them. Ennéa smiled, if she didn't know any better, the ahriman almost sounded content. She held up her wrist so the rays would glint off the blue slit-pupiled glass bead on her bracelet, Baraz's unsummoned form.

"Yeah, it is." She agreed. "I'm getting a little cold though." She got to her feet and rubbed her goose-prickled arms. They'd been up here for quite a while and between the chill of the roof tiles she had been sitting on, and the wind blowing on her, it was getting rather uncomfortable.

Hmph. I told you to bring a coat. Baraz chided her, though his voice didn't hold his usual sharpness. There was a rustling sound of wings in Ennéa's mind as if he were moving and stretching.

Ennéa rolled her eyes. "Yes, mother~" She said with overdone brightness.

You should wear your shoes too. Baraz added, blithely ignoring her sarcasm.

"It's easier to climb barefooted." Ennéa gathered up her notebook and zipped closed her pencil case, storing both in her backpack. "I'll put them on when I get down." She promised as she clambered over the side of the building, using the gutter pipe for easy handholds down.

On the ground, she searched around under the bushes by the dorm for where she had stashed her shoes. "I could have sworn I left them right here." Ennéa grimaced as a branch she was holding snapped back into her face. "Ow!" She rubbed her nose.

Baraz snickered.

"Oh, hush and help me--- " Wait, there they were. Ennéa grabbed her shoes and popped up out of the bushes, triumphantly holding them up. "Ah-ha! Found them!!" She cheered and did a silly little victory dance.

And then she realized belatedly she wasn't alone. "Ack!" Ennéa fumbled with her shoes and almost dropped them, "I mean, uh, hello!" She waved sheepishly at the other hunter walking by. She didn't recognize him but that was nothing new; she was so bad with faces and names.

Ennéa was about to slink off when she realized that the hunter had come out of her dorm building. She paused and looked at the older hunter with new curious interest. Was he new? She kind of remembered hearing something about there being new recruits.

"Hey, are you a new hunter trainee?" She asked.

Tedan had actually noticed the girl climbing down off the room a few minutes earlier, walking a bit slower to watch. Had to admit it, he was male and the view from below was .... kind of nice. He was quick to look like he hadn't noticed her yet by the time she actually got her feet on the ground. The victory dance when she found her shoes was pretty funny, though, and he had to put a hand over his mouth for a moment so he didn't start laughing. Probably not the way to make a good first impression.

"Yea," he answered her question with a smile. "Tedan Galloway," he introduced himself then, sticking a hand out toward her. She looked like ... a kid, now that he could see her up close. Really, how old was she? Did these guys recruit middle-schoolers too?

Ennéa grinned and shook Tedan's hand. "Ennéa Petrakis. Nice to meet you." She said, looking up at the other hunter. He was taller and older than her but that was nothing new; Ennéa was fast becoming used to being one of the youngest hunter trainees around aside from maybe Gale.

Still, she wasn't *that* young and Ennéa felt a small flash of smugness when she shook Tedan's hand. At last she wasn't at the bottom of the totem pole! The Strays, as her group of trainees were sometimes called (Ennéa never figured out why), weren't the newest and greenest trainees around. It was kind of nice.

Yeah, yeah. Don't let it get to your head, Pinkie. Baraz snorted. You don't even have the common sense to dodge out of the way after attacking.

"Hey, I learned my lesson from that." She protested back at the ahriman, totally oblivious that to an onlooker it probably looked a lot like she was talking to herself.

Ennéa focused back on Tedan; in addition to the small sense of smugness, she felt oddly responsible. The other hunter trainee didn't look too lost but Ennéa could remember how overwhelmed she had felt when she first woke up on the island. Perhaps she could help him since she was (finally!) more experienced? So long as he didn't ask her any super tricky questions or anything about Caelius, or Dr. H, or Clarice, or any of their superiors. Or anything about the orders they issued for that matter, because Ennéa usually had no idea either.

She could direct him to where the mess hall was though?

Oh jack, it's the blind leading the blind. Baraz said, rolling his eye. Ennéa ignored him.

"How are you settling in?" She asked Tedan solicitously. "Do you need any help? Any questions?" Hopefully he wouldn't ask her anything too hard.

"Okay so far I think. Figured out where most of the main buildings are and all that..." But really, there had to be more to this island than just the complex, right? "I was thinking, though ... it's pretty unlikely I know. But is there anyplace around here to get a drink? Or just go to hang out and relax?" Like a bar. That'd be nice ... but again, he doubted it. "And what all is outside the walls? Are we allowed to like... go exploring and all that? Or is it dangerous out there?"

Lots of questions, but was the first one really something he should be asking someone as young as Ennéa looked to be? Ermn.

((lol Ennéa's 15 btw))

"A drink?" Ennéa echoed. "Um, there's the mess hall? There's stuff to drink there if you're thirsty..." She trailed off lamely. Ennéa didn't think that was exactly what Tedan had in mind but she was at a loss for any other place to suggest and she didn't want to look ignorant in front of the newer trainee.

She brightened at his next question, she knew this! "There's all sorts of stuff outside," She ticked them off on her fingers, "an abandoned town, a lighthouse, underground labs -- even a jungle. And there's tons of beaches," She hesitated before adding "though it's usually pretty cold and foggy."

"Mostly, we hang out around the training grounds or the mess hall. Um, I'm not entirely sure about exploring but I think it's okay? You might not want to go alone though."

Ennéa bit her lip. She knew she wasn't being as helpful as she had hoped she would be and her answers probably wouldn't please Tedan. "I could go exploring with sometime, if you want?" She offered.

(( lol Tedan stop asking the jailbait about bars!! ))

Yeeaaa asking her about a bar even in a roundabout way probably wasn't such a good idea. As for the other stuff, though ... now that he thought back on it, he vaguely remembered seeing other parts of the island during that stupid "test" or whatever it was.

Though the room they'd been in where the walls had squashed everyone in the end hadn't looked like part of an abandoned school. But whatever. Hell, it could have been part of this school, for all he knew. Which caused a bit of a mental shudder. Dammit, now he'd never look at the classrooms here the same way. Ugh.

"Oh sure, exploring sounds like a good idea sometime," he replied, trying to wrench his mind away from classrooms with moving walls. "Could be things out there to fight too, right?"

"Oh, I bet there is." Ennéa agreed. These days there never seemed to be any lack of creatures and shambling horrors she had to fight.

That reminded her. "Oh, did you get your weapon, by the way?" She held up her wrist to show the bracelet she wore, her weapon's unsummoned form. Ennéa then extended her hand. "Baraz, would you?"

Fine. Baraz sighed, sounding put upon.

The bracelet around Ennéa's wrist glowed and the blue slit-pupiled bead detached itself and floated into the air. It then disappeared in a small flash and Ennéa reached out and gripped the long wooden shaft of her axe.

"This is my weapon, Baraz." She swung the axe around with a small flourish; giving into the temptation to show off a little. "I can show you where the cove is so you can get your own weapon." She offered helpfully.

"Oh nice!" Tedan replied when she brought her weapon out to show him. Another axe, huh ... interesting. "Oh I already found the Cove, though I'm wishing now that you'd been around when I was looking for it at first," he went on with a little laugh. He'd looked for a while before basically stumbling upon it.

"Funny thing..." And then he called to his own weapon, holding a hand out as the long polearm part of his own axe appeared there. Fingers wrapped around it and he leaned it on the ground then put one foot on top of the axe part. "This's Ardavan. Hmmn... think he's a little bigger, maybe." Then he smirked faintly, just. Because.

Pffft! Size doesn't matter, it's what you do with it. Baraz scoffed.

Ennéa hid a smile and shouldered the axe. "Baraz says hello." She said to Tedan. She looked admiringly at Tedan's axe. Ardavan was bigger than Baraz but Baraz was a little longer, she thought with a snicker.

Oh don't you start now. Baraz said sourly.

"I'm glad you were able to find your weapon." She said, regaining her composure. "I think they get a kick out of being difficult; Baraz made me climb that glyph wall to find his tablet."

I knew you would find me. Baraz said complacently.

"Baraz is an ahriman." Ennéa explained. "They're like giant flying eyeballs."

We are way cooler than that!!

"And I guess old habits die hard; when you can fly you like perching up high." Ennéa smiled, it was fun to get back at Baraz and all his teasing now and then. "What's Ardavan like?" She asked curiously.

Tedan shrugged slight, still leaning on his own axe. "He's actually ... pretty lazy, honestly," he admitted with an almost sheepish look. "I mean, when I found him, he was actually snoring. Or doing a pretty good impression of it. But he's pretty badass when he wants to be." He grinned at that, and spun the axe around a time or two.

"The thing he used to be is called a Hadhayosh - and it took me forever to say that name right by the way - and it's something like a huge bull made of brass. I dunno," he shrugged slightly. He'd never heard of the thing before Ardavan told him about it, but it sounded pretty cool.
