Elikapeka crouched down, trying to hide herself in the shadow of a tree. The best place she could think of to hide herself. How those really bright lions did this, she wasn't sure. Her own coat wasn't exactly on the eye catching side, but against the light grass commonly found everywhere, she stood out like a sore thumb. She would be better suited with night hunting. That was how she had survived on her own for so long. Hunting at night wasn't in the cards today, unfortunately. The feast would be at night. She needed to gather some fresh meat for it.
Ahead of her was a small herd of zebra, broken off from the mane herd foolishly. The direction of the wind was in her favor. They didn't seem aware of her presence. Now was the task of picking out the weakest one.
The stallion closest was a definite no. He looked strong enough to easily kick the predator in the face who was stupid enough to follow him. The way his eyes continued to look over his surroundings and companions, a threatening glint in the orbs easily told Eli this. He might not be equally as stupid and try to fight back. But one should keep away from him.
There didn't seem to be anything wrong with the other three with him. Which might explain why they broke off to begin with. The fifth, however...It looked like she had a slight limp in one hind leg. Eli raised the fur above one eye, a grin touching her lips as she turned towards her companion, the nearly all white Hyena. It was obvious this zebra had ventured too far away from the herd and the others were trying to protect it. Probably an old relative.
Eli had never hunted with a Hyena before. Or a canine in general, for that matter. She hoped this would go over better than she was expecting. She wasn't sure how different the two species might hunt from one another. The other female was also new to the pride. Eli couldn't be sure what to expect at all. But it had been left up to the two of them to bring home a kill. The Sikukuu was still too small to spare many hunters all at once while the rest prepared the feast or festival or whatever celebration was going on at the time.
The red lioness nodded her head at the old and crippled zebra.

The red lioness had momentarily forgotten about her hunting partner. Eli preferred to hunt by herself. When forced to with another, she tried to take control of the expedition. Sometimes that worked. Sometimes it didn't. So far, now, it was. But this was merely because the Hyena hadn't said anything to her. Or had a chance to.
The stallion charging towards her blanked out Eli's mind as her instincts took over. Motioning to Shabnam to cover her felt like so long ago. A million days, if she could even live that long. Doubtful. Maybe if she was a Goddess. Last she checked, she was a simple mortal. Not even a Seerer.
Eli dug her claws into the ground, trying to steer away from the oncoming black and white equine. Before she could make any quick maneuvers, a white blur appeared in the corner of her eye. Thinking it was another male from the bigger herd coming to help, she was about to change direction and go back the way she had come to face defeat, the charging stallion changed his course first, steering towards the white blur which she now had time to focus on herself. The Hyena. Right.
Green eyes scanned her surroundings while she was still running. The injured mare was slowly making her way towards the bigger herd. Giving a burst of speed, Eli charged at her while she was being ignored, easily jumping onto the equine and clamping her mouth over the throat. One hoof kicked out, catching her in the stomach. She let go for a moment, giving the zebra enough time to try and scramble to her feet amongst the huffing to draw a breath. With a growl, the lioness clamped back onto the throat of her prey, dragging them both back down to the ground. The blood of the zebra ran down its neck from the scratches left by the predator.

With the mare down, relief was quick to follow now that she was on a level with the red predator. Once the job was completed, Eli rose from her kill, her mind snapping back to the memory she wasn't alone out here. The sounds of the many hooves beating the ground reached her ears, the dizzying view of the many stripes galloping away from her starting to make her feel sick to her stomach. Zebra was not her favorite choice of a meal for that very reason. If you couldn't catch them alone, the sea of stripes was confusing and hurt the eyes.
When her eyes caught sight of the stallion chasing the Hyena, the lioness uttered a silent curse under her breath. Matching two such different predators was insane. Eli knew well lions, leopards, and cheetahs could take down prey on their own, but she was always skeptical about her canine counterparts. They lacked the agility of a feline and relied more on their numbers to overwhelm a beast. She had wanted Shabnam to be bait so this would be over with quicker.
A few second internal debate waged against each other inside the lion's head before she decided to leave the carcass and chase down that spirited Zebra. She was tired from the mare, but maybe the double sight of his herd leaving and the second predator closing in on him would make him rethink his decision.
She ran alongside the Zebra, taking pretend swipes at him in hopes of scaring him away.

Eli as well was starting to tire out, but at a much slower rate than Shabnam. For Eli, hunting solo was nothing new to her. She had only herself to take care of her from a young age, rejecting all other help to prove she could be independent. She couldn't remember where this desire had stemmed from, only that it was important to take care of herself. It wasn't like her family was inattentive of her. Quite the opposite. Perhaps that was why she rejected help so much.
Her mouth was open as she continued to chase down the stallion, steering him towards his herd in case he decided he wanted to turn back around. But as most herd animals went, taking care of his band of mares before a rival stallion decided to make off with some appeared more important to him. Good choice. Staying near the two predators anymore would just make him a second meal to take back. Even if that meant Eli would have to make two trips. The Hyena seemed far too tired to even carry a foal back.
Turning back around to her companion, the red lioness gave her a wide grin, breathing heavily through her teeth. "Not a problem. It was in the bag." Or if anyone asked, that was what she was going to tell them. "Our species fight too differently to pair us together. But no matter! That's done. I can carry the prize back and you can catch your breath." Shooting Shabnam a wink, Eli trotted off towards the kill, grabbing it around the neck with her teeth and dragging it towards the pride's lands.
