User Image Laid out at edge of the water, Uprooting the Willow let one leg hang over the edge, rocking back and forth just above the surface. The day had been calm and largely uneventful, leading into a cool, pleasant evening. The sun hadn't yet begun to hide below the horizon, but a few fireflies could already be seen dancing around the trees overhead, waiting for darkness. The doe was watching them, head tilted back, a soft smile on her face. It was nice, this time of day. It was one of her favorite times, if only because the noises and rustling of the afternoon were finally quieted as the other animals prepared their nests for sleep.

Turning her attention back to the water, she watched as graying clouds floated in the darkening reflections. "I wonder if it'll rain..." she mused, lowering her hoof enough to dip it in the water. The ripples that flowed away were slow and her expression was thoughtful.

What was that noise? And that one? And what were those lights, dancing around in the sky?
A young doe was happily sticking her nose into places it probably shouldn't be as she looked around. She had mud up to her flanks and torso, and her tail was caked in it from the day's explorations. Her red-on-black eyes didn't miss a thing as she meandered towards a nearby watering hole. She needed to clean off before going home to play with Flowing Freely and Harm Undone, but she kept on getting distracted. One of the fireflies landed on her nose, and she smiled, before trying to catch it in her mouth, like she had as a foal. She caught it easily, and trotted along with it in her mouth, lighting up the inside of her mouth as she emerged at the edge of the water, and let the firefly go, squealing happily as she ran, and leaped into the deep water, giggling happily.

Her head had settled down on the spongy earth at some point and her eyes drooped, threatening to close. Now would be the perfect time for a nap, just a little one. As her consciousness drifted, something began to make noise. It was quiet at first, like nothing more than the trees dropping leaves and nuts into the water. But the louder it got, the more her ears flickered. Eyes squeezed tighter. What was that? The next sound she heard was certainly different than any normal hustle and bustle of the swamp. Groaning lightly, she shifted, and was suddenly startled out of her sleep completely by a loud, nearby splash.

"What-" Her head shot up and her eyes immediately locked on to the form of another doe in the water so much closer than she had imagined. Willow's gaze remained steady as understanding slowly dawned her on and the sound of happy laughter met her ears.

Snap surfaced, and swam towards shore quickly, happily, and paid no mind to anything for a moment- her eyes were closed, and she had water in her ears. She was smiling to herself as she stood on shore, oblivious to the other doe nearby. She shook herself dry, giggling all the while happily, and then turned a bit, looking around. and spotted a doe who looked eerily similar to herself in coat color and design, and was now a bit damp.
"Oh...Hello... Didn't mean to get you wet..." Snap apologized, and then walked over, curious. She tilted her head, and studied the doe a moment before asking, "Hey...Do I know you from somewhere?"

Careful eyes followed the other doe's progress up onto the banks. Though her expression didn't change much, she pulled her dangling leg back up and looked as if she was getting ready to stand. By the time she was half-way up, she got a face full of water droplets. Recoiling in slight surprise, she rose the rest of the way and shook off a bit, shuffling in place as she attempted a quick smile.

"Ah, that's alright..." she muttered, finally getting herself back under control enough to smile all the way so it reached her eyes. "I needed to wake up, anyway." She laughed lightly, ears flicking. There were worse ways to be woken up. At least she had already been awake and moving before getting wet.

As the other female moved closer, Willow tilted her head curiously. There was something familiar, she had to admit. Something very familiar. And though she didn't see much of her family these days, it was that sort of samey feeling. "I don't believe so," she admitted, knowing full well that she had never met this doe before now. "But I get the strange feeling we should." Glancing back, she was able to see from the corner of her eye the curling vines of color that ran along her own side. For a short moment, she thought of her twin.

"Hm...Your markings are a lot like mine... but I know you're decidedly not my mom... so...who are you?" Snap frowned slightly, curiously. She trotted up to the other doe, and peered at her markings openly, showing off her own. She Had some of the same colors, and their basic coat was much the same... But, overall, they were different. A sudden smile crossed her face. "Do you have a brother? You're too young to be my grandmother..."
