Sergei yawned big. It was nearing midday, and though the rest of his siblings were all fast asleep, he simply could not get comfortable. Even the hard headed Stjorn had managed to fall asleep, though to his credit he'd spent the entire morning exercising. Maybe, Sergei thought to himself, that was what he needed as well. He set off at a trot through the sprawling halls of their temple home, ears perked. It felt odd to be awake in the middle of the day, when their parents were so adamant about them staying out of the vicious heat that had been plaguing the land as of late.
The sun nearly blinded him when he entered the courtyard, and he slowed down as he blinked and squinted, his eyes adjusting to the light. It seemed like ages since he'd been out in broad daylight, but the sun felt night on his fur, and he purred to himself, looking around. What was there to do during the day, anyway? His mother and father were out doing their jobs, no doubt...he would take today to meet some new people! He'd always wanted to take a look around, anyway, and learn more about the lions of their pride and all the jobs they did. His mother was a healer, and his father was a brave guardian who kept them all safe. He'd meet someone new today and figure out what they did! He set off across the courtyard again with renewed purpose, determined to find someone to bother--err--meet!

Done. She was done at last. Her training to become a priestess had been completed just in the few days prior, and the grown lioness was now eligible to oversee rituals, births, ceremonies, and other important things that required the attention of a priestess. She was proud - more proud than she had ever been, but who could deny it? She deserved all of it - the prestige, the importance, the title and everything. After all, she was a clever and strong female, capable of many things.
She could not deny she had come from a strong and intelligent family, either! Despite her prejudice against males being better, she was somewhat proud of her favorite brother, Zanza, who had become an acolyte. Perhaps if she wandered over to the courtyard in front of the temple - one of his favorite places - she could find him to offer her congratulations. It was quite an achievement, but still not quite as important as what she had gained, as well as her other sisters, who had become a talented scribe and artisan. The only one she might had had seconds thoughts for was Ata, who wanted to remain a common hunter... Ah, well, she was sure Ata would shine in time.
As her sandy paws took her to the courtyard grounds, stepping rather rapidly as if she were on a mission.
"Zanza! Zanza!" she yelled out, eyes darting to the left and right, though not really looking where she was going.
One would think that the orange male - a few shades of coat lighter than hers - would stand out amongst all the lightness of the area.
"Zanza, you big oaf, where are you?!" she continued shouting, just flying through her path.
"HEY!" she suddenly uttered, finding something soft and small collide against her moving body, tripping onto the ground herself.

Poor Sergei had scarcely gone three steps before he heard the yelling, and then the world was turned upside down as something big and red barreled right into him, knocking both lions into a heap. He squeaked, whimpered, and flopped over with a startled snarl as Isis tripped and fell over him, trying to untangle himself from beneath her paws as quickly as he could, immediately scared that he'd done something wrong. She certainly looked a lot older...she was one of the first adult lionesses Sergei had ever met, besides his mom! He gulped as he got to his feet...he hoped she'd be as nice. He knew that most girls didn't like to roughhouse or get dirty, and now they were both a bit dusty after their roll on the courtyard floor.
The fall had hurt him a little, but he immediately tried to brush her off first, sniffling and wearing a fearful smile. "I-I'm sorry! I didn't see you coming, are you okay?" he asked apologetically, voice breaking a few times as he struggled to mask his own hurt. He reached up to rub his nose, which he'd bumped hard, during their tumble, when all of a sudden, his sky-blue eyes lit up and he grinned. Someone had found him instead! This gleeful realization made him forget about his bruised snout, and he straightened up. He even thought he'd seen her around before, that red coat of hers seemed familiar.
"My name is Sergei. What's yours?" he asked without skipping a beat, even though he was still trying to brush the sand away from her brilliant red fur. "You sure were going fast. Were you looking for someone too?" he asked, remembering that she'd been yelling about...something. Or someone, perhaps? He'd been too absorbed in his thoughts, and she'd hit him like a bolt of scarlet lightning, so he had no clue what she'd been shouting for.
