While there was certainly a charm to being entrusted with the responsibility of running a store all on your own, and Jett didn’t mind the responsibility that came with it since it came with the power.

…Not that there was really a lot of power in running an antique store, but at the very least, it meant that he got to decide when he got to take his break, and how long he got to stay out for. Today was a slow day—everyone that would come in must have been sleeping in or out with their families or something, so Jett had no guilt about closing the store for an hour. He had already walked to the door and flipped the ‘away, will return at one’ sign, though hadn’t yet locked the door. He had locked up the back doors and was checked to make sure that everything was in place, but the more he wasted time, the more he was ready to go.

He’d been stir crazy in the shop all day, though had been torn about customers. He’d wanted some distraction from the boredom of the store and the lack of business in the past few days, though he wasn’t going to complain that he didn’t have to explain the rather obvious bruise on his face.

The fight with Lenka the night before had been more of a nuisance than anything, though a mixture between her watermelon and the bokken had left him sore and bruised. While the bokken had hurt far worse than the watermelon, the bruise from the wooden sword could at least be concealed by his clothes. The watermelon had left a very clear bruise right across his face and he’d already had to come up with a story for his mother when he ran into her in the kitchen this morning, but he didn’t want any more attention than he’d already received.

Millicent was still a little sore from battling with Remarque and getting kicked by his big stupid feet, but tried to keep herself in good spirits as she made her way to the antique shop, skipping into the store. “Jett! It’s time for your training session! Come on!”

She figured the best way to get through her own fears and doubts…would be to help her padawan get stronger…so he would be able to protect himself if he ever ran into trouble out on the streets of Destiny City. It was a brilliant plan, she knew it, and she was very, very proud of the idea.

When she finished yelling, she ran over to Jett and smiled. “Hi there! I came at lunchtime so we could train! What happened to your face? Did you run into a wall? You shouldn’t do that you know, it’s not good for you. Bruises mean you’re bleeding on the inside. I learned that once.”

She was happy to see him, and lurched forward, giving him a hug. “I missed you!”

Oh. Hello, Millie.

Jett nearly grunted when she wrapped her little arms around him, but instead of pushing her away, he gave her a very half-assed hug in return. He hadn't anticipated that she was going to come today, and a part of him wished he hadn't taken so long to get out the door so he didn't have to deal with any sort of training session.

"No, I didn't--" he seemed vaguely agitated. "Do I look like I'm the type of person to run into the wall? No," he hesitated, glanced up at the bookshelf across the room and then back down at her. "...I was putting some stuff away and a book fell down and hit me in the face," he lied. "And how did you miss me? It's been, like, what--two days?"

He didn't actually know how long it had been; he hadn't seen her in a while, though--and had almost forgotten she'd wanted to do the padawan training thing, despite the fact that he'd kept her gift in the little cubby slot beneath the register so he didn't have to deal with it.

Millicent laughed then shook her head. “A book fell on you! My poor padawan! I hope it didn’t hurt you too badly!” She pulled a lightsaber out of her backpack and laughed again. “Are you ready to train, Jett? Maybe you’ll be able to dodge the book next time one tries to attack you! Come on! I’ll race you outside!”

The child was excited, that much was clear. It was good to play with her friend…plus she needed some training herself, that stupid Remarque was going to be the one pushed over next time! She almost started dancing at the thought. Yeah. She was going to push that big old meanie over and he was going to cry.

She was totally going to laugh at him while he cried.

The lightsaber in the girl’s hand reminded Jett that he doubted he could get away with abandoning his training despite the fact that he didn’t think he really needed any sort of training. He wasn’t really any good with weapons other than his fist, and he was far more confident in his punches than he would be with a little plastic toy, but he figured Millie was going to get him to play padawan one way or another, and better outside of the shop than in it.

“Yeah, yeah, one second,” he said, not sure he really wanted to race her. She was so tiny, there was absolutely no way she could run faster than him with those little legs. He pulled out the lightsaber she’d given him, glanced it over, and then dropped his hand to his side. He moved to the door of the shop and pushed it open, keys in hand to lock up.

“What, exactly, are you training me in again?” he asked as he pushed the key into the hole and waited for the girl to exit the shop so he could lock up.

Millie skipped outside and waited for Jett to lock up the door before she drew her saber blade out and jumped up and down on one foot, the two small braids that framed her face jumping as well. “Well now, padawan! Are you ready for this? Should we start with the basics? Maybe with Form one? I can teach you that. I’m good at teaching it.

He was going to be super strong. Super, duper strong. And he was going to thank her for this. She knew it. She could just taste it.

“Extend your blade, padawan, then do what I do!”

She drew in a breath, then swung her blade to the upper left, then the upper right, she drew it down to the lower left, then took a step backwards, then drew it down to the lower right, before letting out a battle cry and swinging it upwards, clearly a headshot.

“That’s form one, padawan! You can do it!”

“Can we still call me Jett?” the older male asked, glancing over his shoulder at her as he tucked the keys into his pocket. “And do this while we’re walking, I’m starving.”

Drawing the plastic lightsaber up, he looked for the little red button before he pressed it and flicked his wrist, plastic blade shooting out. He tugged on the individual plastic cylinders to make sure they were secured and that the toy wasn’t going to collapse into itself. He wasn’t very enthusiastic with the practice, nor did he particularly pay attention while she was showing him the ‘form’.

Lazily he waved the toy back and forth, glancing at Millicent as he did so, walking with a slightly slowed pace so she could keep up without him outright ditching her on his way to get his lunch. “There, that was good, right? Let’s move onto the next form. How many of them are there that you expect to teach me, anyway?”

Millie shook her head, then jumped up, giving his head a rather hard tap with the tip of her blade. “That was sloppy, Padawan. It has to be better than that. Cleaner! More precise! This form can save your life one day.”

He seemed so lazy when he did that! Jett never had seemed lazy to her before!

The child followed him, scowling. “You should buy me lunch to make up for it. And we can practice at lunch, but you have to make it less sloppy, or you’ll never be able to learn the other six forms! You’ll never be a Jedi Knight! Or a Jedi Master!”

This wasn’t a game! He would realize this…maybe.

Jett was not amused with Millie’s antics when he resulted in being bopped on the head; he rubbed at the top of his head not because it hurt, but because he wanted to make sure she hadn’t messed up his hair. “That wasn’t sloppy,” he grumbled. He didn’t bother to correct the child that he had no motivation to be a Jedi Knight or a Jedi Master—or inform her that he didn’t know the difference between the two.

“You sure are a sneaky kid, though,” he mused. “You trying to trick me into buying you lunch?”

And yet, she was amusing.

A smile twitched onto his face and he ruffled her hair. “All right, I guess I can buy you lunch. Show me that form again, I’ll get it right this time,” he said, deciding it couldn’t hurt to play along with her game.

…As long as no one else was watching.

Millie blinked as he mentioned buying her lunch, then shook her head. “No thanks! I brought lunch for the both of us!” She had been ready. She knew that a good diet would help him be a good Jedi…and of course Fluffernutter was the staple of a good diet!

She reached into her backpack and drew out two very smooshed looking sandwiches and two little bags of cookies as well as two juice boxes. “Ta-da! Now we can just focus on our training. When we get tired, we can eat! I’m amazing so I thought of everything!”

A balanced lunch. Just like her mom would pack her…minus the carrots or other vegetable that her mom liked to slip into her lunchbox at school. Yuck!

The child slipped the food back into her backpack, then drew her saber, showing him the form once more, more slowly this time.

"I'll make you a great Jedi someday, Padawan!"

But. But the fries…

And his coffee…

It was a sweet sentiment, that the girl had come fully prepared with lunch for the two of them—and it certainly wasn’t something he was expecting—but…his fast food…

“…Yeah,” he said slowly, still trying to decide if he could come up with some sort of excuse to get him to the nearest fast food joint—only a block and a half away from here. His mind raced to think of what he could bribe her with, though in the end he just caved and said, “Well, we can practice for a while now, and after I’ve learned all these forms, we’ll go sit down and eat and we can celebrate with—ice cream or something. Deal?”

…And he’d been reduced to trying to bribe a child to let him go eat his grease in peace.

This time, he’d watched her a bit more carefully and repeated her gestures, not quite sure what the purpose was. They were easy enough to remember and mimic—he just didn’t know what the point of it all was.

Millicent nodded. Ice cream always sounded good…”That works for me! I love ice cream. It’s so yummy.” She seemed very pleased that he got the moves down the second time, then waited a moment, before attacking him; hoping that he would block her using the moves that she had just taught him.

Form one…was one of the best for keeping yourself safe, it wasn’t fancy like the other forms, but it would do in a pinch, and it was the foundation for everything else. You couldn’t run before learning to walk after all!

She laughed as she attacked him, enjoying herself very much. “Come on, Jett! We can do this, then we can eat because I’m very, very hungry!”

Jett was busy daydreaming about the fast food he wished he could be eating right now—and Milicent worked fast. He wasn’t expecting her to actually strike him and was still just fooling around with the plastic weapon. The first time he blocked with some half wild swing, though casually got in the groove with it, still self concious of passersby casting judgment. It took a fair few seconds for him to fall into any sort of groove, but he was eventually able to fend off the child.

“You’re good at this,” he complimented, actually surprised at the skill in which the child displays. “How often do you practice? Jeez, you must have been a knight or something in a past life,” he grunted; he was a close range person, and fighting with anything other than his fists felt awkward. If these lightsabers were real, he’d have had no doubt that Millicent would have been a fierce opponent.

“Well,” Millie huffed, starting to come at him with more elaborate, and much quicker moves. “I have fencing class every Thursday, and I normally like to go and practice on Saturdays…at least I used to, but now I might just be a little bit too busy with…school and stuff.”

She lurched at him, then drew back quickly. “I’ve been in fencing lessons since I was seven, so almost four years now!”

Personally, she thought she was very good at what she did, and now that Jett was getting better at blocking, she could really go all out and face him like she was really able to. “I’m going to come at you with everything I have, okay? Just keep using your form one block, it should protect you.”

Jett continued to try and fend the girl off; he was glad this wasn’t a real fight or something. Sure, he didn’t like to lose ‘fake’ fights, but damn. Millicent clearly knew what she was doing, and it was kind of making him look bad.

“Yeah, well. Didn’t know that.” He wasn’t going to demand she stop or slow down as, if he was going to lose, he was going to at least lose with his dignity. Jett was a little worried that he was accidentally going to smack her in the face so he remained deflecting as slowly as possible. Which was growing increasingly harder the more skill she used. “Any other secret talents you’ve got that you’ve been keeping to yourself?” he asked, biting down on the inside of his cheek just a bit as he swung again to block her. You proficient in nun-chucks and battle axes, too?"
