On one of the most beautiful Autumn days Destiny City had ever seen where runners were taking advantage of the cool air and bright sunshine, kids were playing everywhere you looked, and it had a certain leafy magic in the air... Braden MacCrimmon was stuck in the Destiny City library working on Logistics homework. He was bored and he hated himself. Peering outside the window he fantasized of all of the things he'd rather be doing in that instant- The running trails in the DC forest were probably perfect right now. Or rock climbing with his favorite gym partner. Anything but what and where he was.

Sighing, he turned back to his papers and book and lifted the pencil. Then flicked it across the table and let his forehead drop to the table.

"Ow."

A loud thunk had Kathryn peeking her head out from an aisle and staring at the occupant of a table nearby. His head lay on the table and there were a few open books nearby. What was the story here? Plucking a book from the shelf that had grabbed her attention Kat strolled out of the aisle. Unsure if her presence would be welcomed Kathryn sighed before staring out of the window nearby. Stalling wouldn't work for long and so she stepped closer to the table.

"That sound I heard - was it you? It was quite impressive."

Kathryn held her book tightly across her chest before waiting for an answer.

That was a girl voice.

Every instinct in Braden's body conflicted instantly. The first reaction was flight- She couldn't make fun of him if he ran away. The second reaction told him to stay exactly where he was and put on the smarm. She'd sounded friendly enough after all. The visible combination of the two for the girl before him was of the lanky blond male sitting bolt upright with his brows knitted close together, his mouth opening and closing, and a whole lot of his standard 'oh's and 'uhm's coming from his throat. It was painfully obvious Braden was not used to people just talking to him. Not unless they wanted something from him.

"Oh, uh, yes." He finally managed to get some semblance of an answer out and looked dumbfounded as he did so. "I'm sorry, did it bother you? It bothered you. I'm so sorry."

Whoa. Kathryn took in the occupant's appearance and his myriad of vocalizations before shaking her head gently. She had obviously surprised him for sure. Putting the book down on the table Kathryn shook her head in response to the statement that he had made. "You aren't bothering me. Don't think for a moment that you are. Technically I'd be the one bothering you. I had heard the sound of your head hitting the desk and it made me curious as to who could have created that sound. That's all."

Would she be too out of line to sit in the unoccupied chair that lingered at the edge of the table that was furthest from the table's occupant. He looked rather uncomfortable with her presence. Kathryn glanced at the books that were on the table - splayed open before trying to read the print upside down. "May I join you for a minute or two?"

"Oh. Ah, yeah go ahead. I don't mind." He busied himself with moving some of the least important books to his studies out of her way and smiled sheepishly at her. "I'm not good at being stuck inside for too long, y'know? Cabin fever syndrome or something like that." There was no indication that he was trying to explain why he'd hit his head on the table or that he really cared that he was absently rambling about being stuck indoors. To Braden the fact that there was a girl asking to sit next to him for any reason at all, let alone that there didn't seem to be a reason other than to talk to him, had him confused and suspicious.

"So. Your boyfriend won't get upset if he finds out you stopped to talk to a strange boy at the library?" It came out like a bad pick-up line.

Braden didn't notice at all.

Kathryn slid out the chair of her choice as the permission to sit down was given. She watched as the male swept some of the books out of her way and she gave him a small smile in thanks. His rambling, well, to put finely a point was meaningless. It was cute in a way but Kathryn merely gave the guy a searching look before nodding in sympathy. She could relate at times. The need to be outdoors always seemed to pull at her. But this wasn't the time to get lost in thought.

"I know the feeling. It's probably more common then you think. Even I tend to go a little stir-crazy when I'm a little wrapped up in a project. You need that change of scenery to clear your mind."

At the next comment from the occupant - Kathryn felt a warmth in her cheeks which heralded the dreadful blush. With a decisive motion she placed her book on the table with perhaps more force than what was necessary before giving him a bit of a glare. "Not that it would be any of his business if I did have a boyfriend and I decided to talk to another person. He would not be one to dictate my every action. For now though I will settle this. I don't have a boyfriend so you don't need to worry about what he'd think."

Kathryn sighed before securing a loose piece of her behind her ear. It had a tendency to flop loose every once in a while. "Sorry. I think that's a topic I like to stay away from. Anyways who do I have the honor of meeting. I'm Kathryn."

My but she was forceful. Eyes widening at her reaction he put his hands up and immediately started blushing himself not that anyone could tell with how sunburned or tanned his cheeks always were. "Oh God. I am so sorry and I shouldn't have said anything and that came out way cheesier and horrible than it should have. You have every reason to hate me and I won't bring it up ever again." Except that he just did. "Your last boyfriend must have been a total d**k." And again.

Wanting desperately to be able to literally stick his foot into his mouth as much as he just had figuratively, he tentatively stuck out a hand for her to shake. "M'name is Braden. It'snicetomeetyou." Now he not only wanted to know why she wanted to talk to him and what she really wanted but he felt guilty for being dumb and an a** as well. Great first impression, man. Great.

Kathryn had placed her clasped hands onto the table as Braden continued speaking. She gave a mild shake of her head at the same time that she rolled her eyes. What caused him to think that she'd had a boyfriend in the past? The nerve of some people. Assuming things before being properly introduced. Kat sighed before flicking her hand in Braden's direction. "There is no reason for us to continue this line of conversation. There isn't a boyfriend now and there hasn't been one in the past."

Great. She was starting to get frustrated. That never boded well. Kat took a deep breath to try and calm herself down. She realized Braden had stuck out his hand to shake and Kat reached over and shook it. "It is nice to meet you Braden."

Kathryn was glad that Braden was at least figuring out that he was talking too much. She didn't feel like abandoning this conversation - at least not yet. But how to keep the interest piqued. Kathryn glanced down at Braden's books before realizing that she could find something to talk about. "What are you studying that has you beating up the furniture?"

Braden did not know how to handle emotion in himself let alone other people and especially let alone women. This was an obviously very emotional woman but at least he had the sense to finally just keep his mouth shut. Before she punched him in the face. ... Not that he'd blame her for that reaction. There were times he wanted to punch himself in the face and he'd been dealing with himself since birth.

Looking down at his papers and books, he shrugged. "Ancient world politics or some kind of bullshit like that," he said rather glumly. His father had signed him up for it and as usual he was failing it miserably. Like he failed all things his father asked or wanted him to do. "It's not my best subject, y'know?"

Kathryn took in Braden's reaction t her query. Since she had decided not to further her own education until she felt ready it was always interesting to inquire about other people's area of study. It was hard to describe how her mind worked sometimes. Kat shook herself free of her internal thoughts.

"Some kind of bullshit like that," Kat gave Braden an impish grin as she parroted his reply back at him. "It doesn't sound you are enjoying that field of study."

Kathryn had long ago calmed down after her outburst earlier. There was a little teasing look in her expression as she watched Braden. "If it isn't your best subject why continue to put yourself through this torture?"
