It had taken time. It had taken a lot of time, a lot of blood loss and bruises, and no small amount of pride to overcome before Lieutenant Chromite had to suck it up and realize she was lacking in a lot of things. The ability to think strategically in a battle was definitely one of those things. She was too impulsive, to easily angered, and it was too easy for her to lose control of the situation. When one was fighting senshi that was never a good thing. Magic, it seemed, would always trump blind rage in a one on one fight. As Chromite had learned the painful way on several occasions.
Who better than a friend to call on for help then?
So she'd sought out the first woman that came to mind when she thought about devious planning and strategic fighting- Gently, A.K.A. General Painite. Where the blonde would normally seething with jealousy that someone recruited into the Negaverse around the same time she was had become a General before she had-- The still Lieutenant actually felt nothing but a searing pride. Her friend was a leading commander in their great army. Using the standard, time-tested, method of communication Chromite had written a letter for Gently and left it at the theater they'd first met at. It read simply: "Dear my commander, I think I need extra-curricular night tutoring. Meet me outside my bakery Thursday? - Genevieve."
She'd done her best to make it as innocent sounding as possible, taking great care not to make anything nefarious sounding but still make it somewhat clear what she was trying to say.
So it was on the roof of the Sweet Reprieve, the bakery she worked part-time at, that Chromite found herself. Powered up and feeling outwards for the familiar tingle of another agent of the Negaverse.

It wasn't hard for Gently to find the note, and she smiled brightly when she read it. She had been rehearsing a play she had auditioned for, and was barreling toward performance. Or so it felt. She had been so busy with work she hated now, with her 'second job' with the Negaverse that she adored, and with what had suddenly become a complicated personal life, she was behind on learning her lines.
But she wasn't worried. She could do it: there was nothing she couldn't do. It was harder to believe that then to doubt herself and stress, but it was the best method for staying sane and that was what she went with.
Humming, she made her way to the bakery with a bounce in her step. She always found herself looking forward to things like this. Whether energy gathering plans or training, or anything else really, Gently always looked forward to hanging out with her fellow Negaverse agents.
Powering up when she was close, hidden in an alley, the General felt the aura she wanted above her, and climbed up to the rooftop. She grinned when she saw Chromite.
"Funny meeting you here. I was thinking there'd be cupcakes. That is what I'm here for, right?" She knew, of course, what Chromite had meant, but light teasing never hurt. Moving closer, Painite moved quickly and caught the younger Nega in a hug. Even as a General, she was a hugger. Anyway, they were there as friends as much as they were soldiers. "It's good to see you again! So what's got you thinking you need some tutoring?"

Chromite welcomed the hug with a smile and shrug. It was never unwelcome to see a fellow Negaverse agent and certainly least of all if it was Painite. Frowning at the question though the lieutenant fidgeted where she was, obviously uncomfortable with needing any kind of help. The note had been easy enough to write and deliver but it was different having to say it aloud. "I've only actually been in battle with a senshi three times," she said sheepishly. "Each time has resulted in, ah, near death." Polaris had impaled her with a metal pipe, Chibimoon had nearly death-beamed her face off, and some nameless frilly man senshi had used to tricksy magics and she'd harmed herself in order to get at him. "I don't know what will happen if I don't get lucky like I have before. I refuse to let myself get killed by aliens in slut skirts, Gently."
Taking a deep breath to steady herself, she summoned her weapon and held it in a clenched fist at her side. "Of course there'll be cupcakes after, as payment." And just like that, her smile was back with a wink.

Painite listened, arching her eyebrow as she did so. There was only a small amount of judgment in her eyes, only because she expected the best of all the Lieutenants and Captains, even her fellow Generals. Losing, and badly, to senshi three times was not the best Chromite had to offer, Painite was certain.
She nodded her head slowly.
"Painite," she corrected. She knew they were alone, and when they were powered down they were very good friends, but she did not want her name slipping out to the wrong people. Among the negaverse it was easy to find her, of course, as a civilian or powered up, but she did like to keep her name away from senshi and the like.
She smiled though, calling her weapon and nodding.
"I won't let them kill you, either. So, we're in agreement there. Keep you alive, and kill some senshi why we're at it. Show me what you've got, my dear. If you lose, I'll make you cupcakes." And they both knew how that would go.

It pained Chromite to see the small amount of disappointment cross Painite's eyes, and her first instinct was to insist that it wasn't because she wasn't trying hard enough. She had tried her best, she'd just met the wrong senshi at the wrong time ... But when it came down to being honest with herself she knew that the truth was that her best just wasn't good enough. She aimed to change that.
Nodding at her friend as she was corrected, she let a small smile grace her lips. "I'm sorry General, I won't do it again." The upturn of her mouth was there but the apology was sincere. "Cupcakes won't be enough if I lose. How about cookies too?" She let herself laugh for barely a second before putting her game face on. Holding her plastic gun more like a blunt knife, she let out a deep breath and then launched herself at Painite.

Painite laughed and nodded her head, always more than willing to play along with anything. Her balance was that work got done. The means were for each soldier to decide, whatever rang true for them. Whatever they enjoyed the most, or even if they didn't enjoy it. If it was just their duty, their job. However they treated it, as long as they were getting things done and always bettering themselves, always learning and never giving up, then they were doing it right.
The General had come to understand that, opening herself up more to others, understanding them, so she could better train them. She had taken a liking to awakening members of the negaverse, but she found that just telling them to have fun was not enough. She helped them to find who they were, and what worked best for them.
"No, you won't do it again," she said as Chromite charged her, holding her ground, "because you'll learn from it, and it won't ever happen again." She circled her weapon around as she took a step back and to the side, not holding back just yet against the lower ranked soldier. She whipped her spear around and smacked it across Chromite's back.
"Keep coming at me, Lieutenant."

Utilizing her limited dance knowledge, she turned quickly on the ball of her heel and slashed with the end of her gun at Painite's face. She'd been quick enough to turn but the slap on the back had left her reeling just enough that she'd misjudged how close or, in this instance, far the general was. She did not need any encouragement to keep going. Pulling her arm back to balance herself and feint that she was going to slash again the lieutenant instead whipped her right foot up in a cutting motion towards the other woman's torso.
The problem she was coming across already was that she had no sort of real practice or knowledge in the moves she was trying to employ. At best it was a super-powered imitation of watching too many cartoons and action movies. Her foot made contact, but in the process it sent shocks of dull pain up her leg and into her knee.
It showed.

Painite pulled backwards as the gun came whipping around at her, but it was more instinct than need. She kept her eyes glued on her opponent, though, not wanting to let her cockiness get the better of her.
It often happened. She was a very proud villain, and she often let her boastful nature lead her into self defeating traps.
She saw the kick coming, using her speed as a General to her advantage. The match was hopelessly one sided, of course, at least by the facts. Painite had more experience, more training, and a much higher rank. But that was the point.
"Remember who you're fighting," she said, hands flashing up to catch the leg mid swing. It would be an awkward stance for Chromite, at least for a moment before Painite yanked her around by the leg and threw her away once they had whipped around.
"If you can't defeat your opponent by conventional means, you'll have to find another way. There will be many times when you're at a disadvantage: that's how the senshi like to play. Don't let them take your strength for granted."

The pose was awkward indeed but at least the feeling of being thrown wasn't a new sensation for the Lieutenant. Using the wall she was headed towards like a springboard she bounced off of it and landed on her feet. At least Painite didn't have magic the way senshi did. There was always that. Straightening back and soldiering on she ran headlong at Painite, as though about to tackle into her. At the very last second she twirled away and use the momentum to swing with her weapon again.
She was very aware that her opponent of choice was going to see and counter it, but that was okay. As soon as the side of Painite's face was in view she was going to swing directly at her jaw. Until then, she kept that hand at her side.

Painite watched keenly as the Lieutenant bounced off the wall, nodding her head slightly in approval. She liked a bouncy fighter: it was something she was still working on. The next part in her training, really. She was working on parts one at a time.
She trained with her weapon, with teleporting, without her weapon. Now she was focusing on her speed and acrobatics. Very good for impressive shows, she found.
And she loved big shows.
General Painite lifted her arm to block, as was expected. She almost did it because it seemed like such an obvious move, just to see what else was coming. She couldn't help but be interested, she liked learning about other Negaverse soldiers this way. But also she blocked because she didn't want to get hit by the weapon.
She didn't see the fist coming until it connected with her jaw.
"Good!" she said, as she rocked with the blow, though she was in pain and it wasn't the reaction most people had when they were punched in the face.
