"Hello? Anyone here? Partner dude? Or girl?" he decided to call out anyway. There was no immediate response, which had him look back up towards the stairs. Maybe his partner was late. In which case, he figured he'd wait around for a little while.
Moving further into the room, he looked over the strange runes along the wall. There were a lot of them, and it gave the area a bit of a surrealistic feel to it all. Curiously, he walked on over towards one of them to feel the rune. Strange hushed whispers began to sound out, beckoning him.
"AH!"
The voice, though soft, made the young man jump to look around. There wasn't anyone around still. Was he hearing things? His eyes darted back and forth for any signs of life, but it still looked like he was the only person within the room. This room was really creepy; he decided that much right now.
"Strange disembodied voice.. Can't see where or who you are. Where is 'here' exactly?" the asked nervously.
"Well you're unhelpful," Deryk muttered while wandering the room, trying to find the source of the voice. She was around here somewhere, and if she wanted to play hide and seek, that was fine. He'd locate her sooner or later. Maybe there was a sort of hidden wall around here. Yeah, that sounded right. The runes looked like they could act as a sort of button after all!
"Aren't you supposed to help me out? Partner business and all that jazz?" he asked.
she giggled once more,
Deryk paused there. Why did she just call him a human? Wasn't she one too? Furrowing his brow a bit, he spotted one rune in particular that he was getting a pretty good vibe about. He moved on over towards it, brushing his hand over the small tablet before trying to push it in. It didn't budge.
"My name is Deryk. Not human. Though, that is what I am. Aren't you as well?"
Ok, what did she mean by that? This whole thing was starting to make Deryk more and more nervous. Tooley was suggesting that she wasn't a human. If that was the case, then what the hell was she? They were supposed to be fighting monsters and stuff like that, so he was having trouble figuring it out. In any case, he kept his hand on the runic tablet, staring down at it. Pushing hadn't worked, but maybe he could pull it out. Warily and cautiously, he grasped around the side of the tablet and began to pull back. To his surprise, the rune began to change shape as he moved.
When he had the full thing, he looked down to see what appeared to be a sort of bracer. Weird. However, when he turned it over, he saw an intricate little network beneath the leather. It looked a little familiar. Looking it over a little more, he also spotted a small catch of sorts. Tilting his head, he went ahead and triggered it, causing a blade to pop out from the bottom of the bracer.
It startled him, and he nearly ended up dropping it in the process.
With wide eyes, Deryk stared down at the thing in his hands.
"You're Tooley? Y-you're... you're a hidden blade! Just like what Ezio uses! Only, you can talk. Which is even better I think. Oh man. This is so cool!" he exclaimed, suddenly really excited. The nervousness had washed away and a wide grin had soon overtaken his expression.
Nodding, Deryk took a moment to figure out how to tuck the blade back in, then jogged his way back up the stairs. He had found his partner and his partner was awesome. Life was good.
