Gently had a pounding head ache and was not feeling particularly perky, but she had a job to do. There was news to be covered, after all, and she knew if she went home she'd pass out for three days straight. She needed to get everything finished and dealt with, as quickly as she could.

That meant going to her desk at the news office, the only one in the building, the only light coming from the glow of her computer monitor. She had a cup of coffee sitting at the side of her keyboard, but it had long since gone cold.

She sighed, looking at it like it was her new greatest enemy.

Did she want to get up and get a new cup? Why would she, if it was near full and had gone cold? She wasn't drinking it, but having it near her seemed to be mulifying. It kept her awake, just by being there.

But was it less potent now that she knew it had gone cold.

"Alright," she said to no one, "two more paragraphs and then I'll get you refilled and see about actually drinking." Not that the caffiene would help her headache or the other pains in her body at all. Such were the woes of being a reporter, it seemed.

Tag Swagger did not look himself. He wore no suit jacket or tie, his shirt and pants were disheveled. His hair was a tossy mess, and there was no smile on his face. His eyes were puffy and red, his cheeks stained with dried tears, and along his hands and chin were faint stains of his mother's blood. His mother who he had just watched be brutally murdered by a Senshi in his home until Tag exacted revenge, ripping out the starseed from the Senshi's chest.

As traumatic as it was, as devastated as Tag felt, there was little silver lining to the events. General-King Zinkenite had given him a promotion to Captain, increasing his place within the Negaverse. Furthermore, with the death of the Senshi, Tag had accomplished a challenge and was ready to collect his prize.

He walked straight into the newspaper office, crossing straight through the halls without question and entered the office of Gently Ponsonby without so much as a knock.

"Hello Gently," Tag's voice shook. She had likely not ever seen him in such a terrible condition. Few people had. "I have something for you."

He pulled out a small, brightly-glowing starseed of a Senshi and gently tossed it onto the ground. It clinked as it hit the linoleum and rattled and span on the surface until it rolled up against the woman's foot.

"Now I've come to collect."

Gently jumped when she heard the door open, half out of her chair when she saw Tag enter. She wasn't much relieved at the sight of him, noticing immediately what a wreck he was. The blood wasn't the most obvious giveaway, her eyes focusing on his face instead. Maybe she was just used to seeing blood, though she didn't know where it came from.

She wasn't used to seeing him like this though. She hadn't imagined he was capable of crying.

"Tag..."

Glancing down, she saw the shining starseed and bent to pick it up carefully, looking at it in wonder. He had pulled it from a senshi, and had completed his end of their bet, though she hadn't imagined he would be able to. What he had to do for it, exactly, she had no idea. There were spots of blood on it, and she wiped them away carefully.

"What happened?" She put the starseed on the desk, moving toward him. She couldn't help but be worried, just from the look of him. She put her hand on his chest as she looked him over, eyes searching for any visible wounds, any trace that he might be the source of the light bloodstains. She looked up at him. "Are you alright?"

It was hard to think about their bet at the moment, though she registered his words slowly as she watched his face.

"My mother is dead," he said, his words distant from emotion. He was too numbed from the tragedy, too shielded from negative emotions to let the words carry any weight from tone. Their meaning carried all the weight they needed to. "And so is the Senshi who killed her."

"I ripped out the ******** soulless life force with my own hands," he said, taking a few steps forward, his voice now carrying anger. "He broke into my home, Gently, barged through the front door and tried to kill me. He failed. My mother, my innocent ******** mother was caught in the mix and he ******** killed her and then I ripped out his ******** heart! No. I am NOT alright!"

By the end, he was inches away from the woman, screaming. He didn't mean to scream at her, she wasn't the one he was angry at. The one he was angry at was dead, as was his mother. The thought of it kept recurring in his mind, as if he kept having epiphanies of the reality of the situation. It hadn't fully sunk in yet, but every now and then it hit him like a brick.

His bottom lip shook as he started to cry - restrained - and he placed one hand on Gently's hip, the other cupping the side of her face. His thumb caressed her cheek, as if wiping away a tear.

"Help me," he whimpered.

Gently's light green eyes opened wider as he spoke, stunned. Anger burned in her, even as he said he had gotten the senshi responsible for it. It was still cruel and she hated them all the more for it. She felt a shudder move down her spine, icy and sharp.

She let him yell at her, knowing she wasn't the actual target of his rage. She wasn't scared of him, not in that sense at least. There was some sense of danger, that she couldn't help him, that she was in over her head already, that she couldn't understand what he was going through and had no hope of soothing that kind of pain.

Seeing his tears, she moved willingly into his touch, her hands lifting and cupping his face carefully, tenderly.

"Oh, Tag," she said softly, "I'm so sorry, baby. I'm so sorry." She stepped back, but not out of his hold, guiding him back toward her desk. He looked like he was going to fall over. She guided him to her chair, sitting him down before running her hand through his hair. "If I could take this pain from you, I would."

Tag slowly fell into the seat, his hands still wrapped around the woman. Once seated, he slide his hand on her hip to her a** and pulled her closer towards him to sit on his lap. He had no words, there was nothing she could say that could truly make him feel better. But there was something that she wanted. He wanted his prize for the bet. He wanted her.

He stared deep into her eyes, letting them do all the communication for him. He was weak, desperate and broken, and it all reflected in his teary puffy blue eyes - bluer than ever from the tears. He leaned forward and kissed her, his other hand sliding up her back and into her short hair, burying his fingers in it. He tugged at her hair softly to pull back her head and expose her neck so he can move down to kiss her neck as he moved his waist from underneath her. His other hand swept out, swiping off all the contents of her desk to the floor as his mood shifted from passionate to rough.

Gently slid into his lap lightly, her light frame balanced on her legs, barely putting any weight on him. She looked at him with concern etched on her pretty face, and she wondered if he really was thinking about the bet. Obviously not.

He had faced a trauma that he didn't know how to deal with, and he was coming to her for comfort from it. No, maybe not even comfort. Just an escape, a distraction. Did she want to do that for him? Be that? She found herself leaning toward yes, especially as she felt his hand in her hair, his lips on her neck. She let out a soft sound of pleasure, but her hands pushed against his chest.

Looking down at him, taking a deep breath, she tried to be reasonable.

"Are you sure? Is this really what you should be doing right now?" She watched him sadly, seeing the way his eyes were still glistening, his pain still evident. She just wanted to help him rid himself of it, and if that meant only for a little while, then maybe that was what she had to do. As the contents of her desk clattered behind her, she shifted in anticipation, so it might be easier for him to move her to the desk.

She caught his face and drew him to her again, kissing him with surprising passion.

"I don't care," he breathed onto her neck. He didn't know or care if this would make him feel any better, he assumed it would not. But he knew that it was what he wanted, for a long time now. He had come there to collect, and that was exactly what he intended on doing.

He held onto her tight as he stood from the seat, carrying her wrapped around her and lied her down on the desk. He started to strip down as she followed suit and then leaned down into her and collected his reward.
