The room was way too full of testosterone. That wasn't how Roch put it, but that's how it was. He reached up, drying his hair off with the towel and heading into the hotel room, dropping down on the bed nearest the bathroom.
Austin and Vegas looked up at him, making him wonder what they'd been doing. "Shower's free," he said, grabbing his phone off of the table between the beds. He frowned for a bit, thinking over the people he wanted to check on, then rolled through his contact list, picking Taryn's name.
"Mine," Austin said, standing and heading for the bathroom.
Roch ignored him, and waited impatiently as the phone rang in that same old disturbing manner.

Taryn had not been expecting a phone call. She was outside, enjoying a brisk walk around the grounds. Her nose an ears were chilled and she could nearly see her breath, and it felt amazing. When the pocket of her pea coat began vibrating, she looked down at it in confusion.
Huh! Well then. Maybe Mummy wanted to check up on her.
Without looking at the screen, the ghoul put the phone to her ear and continued walking quickly.
"Hello?"

"Hey!" Roch said, breaking into a grin. He didn't notice how suddenly Vegas, who had started looking through a magazine, glanced up curiously at that tone. "How's it goin?" he asked her. "This is Roch, but I kinda figured you knew that, right?"
Sooo, it wasn't someone he called ALL the time, but it was someone that was familiar with him. And that tone? Vegas was betting female. Especially considering all the ghouls they'd seen him talk to. The kid was a player, and didn't even realize it, he was positive.

"Hey!" Taryn reacted before Roch could finish, but let him run through his schpeal before she spoke again. Any passers-by would see her lips split into a grin and a new bounce in her step. "Of course! Hey, where are you? Not here, huh? I haven't seen you..."
It seemed almost like you'd want to talk to your friends after a horrible sequence of events, wouldn't you? Maybe Roch just dealt with things differently...

"Ah, well, I went and took my year two exam," he said, leaning back against the headboard. "And when I was planning on goin' home for a bit--you know, a little vacation--I wound up bein' kidnapped by my dad and my granddad. We've been riding around Halloween on motorcycles for most of the week," he told her. He seemed so comfortable with that line, as if being kidnapped was a usual occurrence.
"But I wanted to talk to you," he said. "Since we haven't seen each other since the tent. How are you doin?" he asked quietly.

"Did you? How did it go?!" Taryn asked excitedly. She may not know much about motorcycles, but she knew about exams. She was still a ways from her Year 2, but Roch had made it!
...hopefully.
"Ooooh~" she cooed then, nodding. 'Kidnapping' had to be used in jest, right? Who kidnapped their own son? "Are you having fun?" And then? The field trip came up again. Taryn's expression faltered slightly.
"I'm doing okay... how about you?" Roch was the one who had seen his crush broken, after all. She had only been a spectator to the violence.

"I'm alright," he said. "My granddad healed my back, hell, I'm feelin' better than I have in a while," he admitted. He glanced up as Vegas sat down on the bed next to him, kicking his feet up on it and looking extremely comfortable eavesdropping.
Roch gave him a dirty look. "Hey, I wanted to ask you something, though," he said. "You know I made a deal with you back then, so you gotta teach me to bake."

"Oh, good! I'm glad, Roch," the ghoul responded, giving a relieved kind of sigh. So he was enjoying himself... good. Good. He deserved it. Poor boil.
Wait, what was this about deals? Taryn couldn't remember making any deals, let alone with Roch. "Hm? What deal?"

"I got turned down," he said simply. "So you gotta teach me to bake to get my mind off of it. Besides, I could SERIOUSLY go for some cupcakes. Although I got a ton of chocolate from Muertes. Hey, you want a chocolate skull? I bought a twelve pack!"
...... rebound ghoul, Vegas thought. That... well, they would probably have to have another one of the "talks."

Chocolate? From Muertes, even...
"Oh, um... sure, I--" The chimera hadn't had the guts to ask Xiu herself what had gone on with Roch. It didn't seem it had turned out very well... "Sure thing. When you get back, we can make a day of it. You think about what kind you want to make, okay?" What better way to keep Roch amused than by giving him something pleasant to think about during the off times? The boil certainly loved his food...
Well! This kind of removed the rest of her conversational ideas. She had seen a lot of Xiu lately. "Where else have you been? Tell me all about it." Taryn began back up the walk to the monster dorms, her nose and lips a bit numb.

"So far Muertes has been my favorite," he said. "I made a new friend! Her name's Carmelita, she's one of those Catrinas. But she's like, eight years old," he said, laughing. "Cute little thing, but I didn't understand a word she said, practically. You would have liked her, she was really good at bossing me around."
He thought about the day they just had, frowning slightly. "And I ran into Lizzy today," he said. "We're in this massive Reaper town, it's weird. Which... probably sounds weird coming from a reaper, huh?"

A new ghoul? Alread--oh. Oh, alright. Taryn smirked to herself and shook her head, her hooves clicking against the cobbles. A little ghoul, alright. The mental image of Roch being bossed around by a child was pretty adorable. Now, who was Lizzy? Someone Roch knew, certainly, and a fellow Reaper?
"I wasn't aware Reapers had their own town," the chimera admitted, "I guess it makes sense, though... like a clan, kind of, I guess. How is it different?"

He thought about it for a moment. "Well, there aren't any tail holes in the pants," he said firstly. "That was a definite benefit. And the clothes all looked like they'd fit someone with proportions somewhat like mine, which was pretty cool too. The buildings have normal sized doors, the roads are cobbled, there's lots of smithies and vets around, and everyone looks somethin' like me..."
He shrugged. "Basically it's boring as hell. Anything happen at school that I should know about?"

It seemed as if Roch may actually be enjoying the Reaper town as it was explained. It had to be nice to be surrounded by people who were just like you... but no. Leave it to him to be upset with his surroundings. Taryn nodded as if the boil could see her and headed in the front door of the dorm, letting it fall closed behind her.
"No, not really. Nothing I know about, anyway. Just... class and teenagers. You'll probably miss your kidnapping when you get back here." She realized then that her initial question had never been answered.
"So you're a Knob now?"

"Yeah," he said. "I even passed my test and everything. We had to catch invisible pups and get paper out of their collar. Course... there were some plant traps and pitfalls and stuff, but that really doesn't matter when you got jerky."
Vegas was grinning, and flipping through his magazine again. The kid was interesting, that was for sure. He hadn't been bored once on this trip.
