It sucked not being able to go to work. Hank had insisted that the girl couldn't come back to work until her cast was off, which left the young adult with way too much time on her hands. The bed rest thing was already beyond old, but she had been trying a bit more lately to follow the doctor's orders. It didn't mean she was home the whole day at any point. However, it meant she spent less time out.

One of the times she usually headed out was during lunch time. It was a good way to stretch her legs out. She could have commented about it being a good stretch for her arms too, except one of them wasn't going to be able to stretch no matter how hard she tried. Each day she had gone someplace new, so the tomboy was running out of places to eat that specialized in Mexican food. Which meant today she was going to a diner that she knew had some of the Mexican foods available, but of the Americanized variety. Inside was crowded due to the lunch crowd, so the blonde easily opted to sit outside.

It was a bit awkward getting through the door though since she had to walk through it sideways since her cast-arm didn't want to tuck to her side. It was kind of nice to sit outside, since it meant that there were less people staring at her while they were eating. The stink of smoke was in the air, but that was a sacrifice she'd be willing to make today.

While she waited for the waitress to return to take her order, she glanced past the plastic shield that kept the patrons of the diner separated from the people walking along the streets.

Sheldon had been preparing for weeks for the few days that could turn into another set of weeks of isolation. Some might have figured he was preparing for nuclear fallout - or that he was just damn tired of all the terrorists running around - but really, he was just getting ready for another video game extravaganza. It had already begun a few days prior with Moden Warfare 3 and Arkham City but it really was to go underway when Skyrim arrived on his doorstep in a gigantic nearly-can't-get-it-through-the-door box (thank god for Amazon, now he didn't have to wait in the hassle of lines).

But all that planning and gathering of munchies and essentials (heat up dinners, take-out menus, lots and lots of soda and cigarettes) and letting his family know that he'd see them at Thanksgiving and yes he'd be okay if they didn't hear from him, had all seemed terribly pointless when his XBox controller ran out of juice hours before. The controller was usually pretty good on power, which is why he never considered getting a recharge station, and batteries were usually plentiful but Murphy decided to show his ugly head with leaving his apartment barren of AAs.

So Sheldon had to venture out (not daring to stop at his much closer work as he had told Gail he would be on vacation) and gone deeper into town to get his batteries, and a pack of his more expensive brand of cigarettes, which as luck would obviously have it that he would be near Ellie's choice of eatery.

The mane of blonde was easy enough to recognize from the sidewalk, the thing attached to her arm was a different story. And as much as Sheldon tried to avoid ... well... anything, this was a cause of stopping. Ellie was someone he seemed to regularly encounter and a cast was a cast so he tapped at the plastic wall to get her attention with a very disturbed look on his face.

The hell did she do to herself....

Usually Ellie wasn't the sort to let her mind wander. However, these days, it was more prone to wandering than she preferred. It always seemed like an agitated daze, for her leg was bouncing about underneath the table out of a strict need to get her extra energy out.

At the moment she was gazing out towards the street, not really focusing in on any of the people passing by. Yet the moment there was a tapping on the thick plastic wall, she blinked back into reality. And that reality had a head of messy green hair in front of her.

"...Oh... Hobbes..." He probably couldn't hear her statement, but based off the look on his face, he could definitely see her. With a classic "Ellie smile" she lifted her good hand up and waved at him as if nothing was wrong. Just ignore the giant cast covering her upper body towards the left side.
PostPosted: Sat Nov 19, 2011 11:13 pm

No, he couldn't hear her. Sheldon could see her lips moving in the familiar form of his last name but given that Ellie didn't say a lot in that exchange it wasn't hard to decipher. The hand wave too, but he didn't heed that obviously.

But it also meant that he wasn't going to get an answer through the thick plastic. He mentally groaned, wondering why he was indulging in such a manner, he was the type to just keep walking without a thought. But this was Ellie Spectre, the girl who had crept into his social circles for some reason and some how; he honestly felt like a typical high school girl gaining gossip material as he double tracked to the entrance of the restaurant and made his way to the outside. Thankfully, no one questioned him as he got through.

The mint haired boy honestly would have sat down at the chair opposite the blonde if it weren't for her feet taking up the space, so he chose to continue standing - it was probably for the best, after his brain kicked in that he was doing something out of the ordinary and he should go home and kill dragons. Sheldon's free hand, devoid of bag, raised and pointed at the blue monstrosity that had eaten half of Ellie's upper body. His question coming up again but in a single word, "Um?"

The blonde wasn't so bothered by the fact that the boy had walked off. However, it was strange when he all of a sudden was on the same side of the plastic as herself.

There was a momentary silence on her own part in response to his initial prompting. Sheldon had never come across as the sort who'd go out of his way to say hi to her. Pulling her feet off of the spare chair, she used her heel to shove the chair away from the table slightly, as if pushing it out.

"Ya gonna stare and gawk, or ya gonna sit yer a** down an' eat lunch?" Since she really didn't need to look at the menu to know what she wanted, she practically tossed the menu towards the other side of the table.
PostPosted: Mon Nov 21, 2011 9:34 pm

Well, it was really too late now to turn back from this stupid idea. Conversation had been engaged and Sheldon now just felt more compelled to find out what happened, get it over with and then get back home. It was the easiest route, his brain processed after it had clicked what he was doing.

And a chair was being offered, Sheldon liked sitting down. So he did, hanging the plastic bag off the back of his seat and shifting the chair to get a comfortable sitting position. The menu went unnoticed, even though it was pretty much hurled at him - maybe he was getting used to Ellie's behavior towards him. Lunch would really be nice and real food would be so ideal compared to what he was always eating, but eating with Ellie meant he was going to be staying longer than he probably wanted to.

But food. Sheldon found his hand creeping over the menu, flipping to the first page with the appetizers and the smaller and quicker to eat portions of food.

"So, I gather you're not going to tell me what happened." It wasn't a question really, Sheldon had gathered she wasn't going to share as his first two prompts at the cast had been scoffed off. Oh good, they had chicken fingers.

Before she could really reply to the statement, a brunette girl with an apron and a small pad walked up to the table. "Are you ready to order?"

Leaning back as much as she was able to given her cast and the stiff chair, the blonde casually responded, "Eh... give us a few minutes... but since yer 'ere... make sure ya separate the bills. His stuff separate from mine." It was easier to do that ahead of time than to wait until the end and then have to deal with splitting a bill.

With a smile, the brunette nodded her head and let out a cheery "Can do!" She walked off scribbling something on her pad before moving onto the next table.

In case Sheldon had assumed that eating with her was going to be free, Ellie glanced to him after the girl left and cleared it up. "This ain't a date or nothin', Hobbes... ya still gotta pay yer own sh*t." Since they now were basically on their own again, she now grinned a bit.

"See, ya got it right. I haven't even told my parents how this sh*t happened... why th'hell would I tell a jackass like yerself?" She could be in a full body cast and probably still grinning and joking in such a manner. It would have almost felt wrong for Ellie to do anything but joke about this sort of thing.
PostPosted: Mon Nov 21, 2011 10:35 pm

Sheldon scoffed at the idea and for a moment looked appalled at her suggestion before pulling his features back to his usual placid look. "Why would I ever consider this a date?" He asked with a roll of his eyes. The better question would be why he would even consider dating Ellie, but asking that aloud would probably earn him a jab in the arm. And the blond now had a weapon.

Though, why he considered doing much with the girl really had to present himself in question when she called him a jackass. Friends liked to call each other names in jest, but he never really considered anyone to be on such a friendly term so obviously it was a bit unsettling to hear. His yellow eyes narrowed at the girl across from him as he closed the menu softly and scooted it away.

"Excuse me for being curious." He told her flatly, debating now on just getting up and leaving. Really, all this was probably from the deep dark corner of his being that still cared about people he knew, especially when one of them was this injured.

She apparently struck a nerve in her green haired acquaintance (or the closest she had ever seen to hitting a nerve with him). "Dude... chill... I was just jokin'..." She took a sip from her glass of water that had been brought out earlier. "I can't help it if I've had people jump t'those conclusions before with my other friends. A girl can't have friends that are only guys or some dumb sh*t like that." She shrugged a bit, then glanced over the companion.

"I don't mind ya bein' curious... everybody's been in all honesty... jus' don't expect t'get an answer, that's all." Last thing she needed to go around was that she had been stolen from the street level to a sudden teleport to a rooftop and shoved off of it. Or that some kid had been the only thing that prevented her from dying that night. With a half sigh, she glanced out to the street again. "Let's jus' say it was a doozy..."

Her hand reached for her glass again and she took another sip before asking something she had on her mind. "So what'd ya buy?" With her good arm she gestured towards the bag he had brought in with him.

Ellie's explanations helped ease the situation at least a little. Sheldon was still a little bit of a grump over the blonde's initial choice of words, but it at least helped him remain planted in the chair. That and the sudden wave of hunger that hit him. Damn smell of food.

He didn't respond, especially not even to comment on the whole friend bit without risking opening up another possible can of worms or something. Not with this girl even though he wasn't sure how much of a friendship this really was. So Sheldon simply hummed, a little agreeable in tone.

About her cast, well, the corner of his mouth twitched into something of a frown from not getting much else and really, now he was wondering if it was worth more prompting and badgering. Probably not. Sheldon rolled his eyes and sighed, "fine."

With the question about his bag, Sheldon's eyes shifted to the direction of where the bag hung on the back of his chair and shrugged, "just some batteries, week long gaming ate all the ones I had."

Once more the brunette made her rounds and since the new guy had closed up the menu, she checked in on the pair. The girl ordered the Supreme Nachos while the boy ordered the Tantalizing Chicken Fingers (that was actually the name of the product). The way the blonde seemed to glare at the brunette seemed to almost scare her away to the kitchen.

Ellie was betting that this waitress was going to have good timing and pick yet another conversation to cut into again, though at least that would mean she'd have her food the next time.

"What sort'a batteries are we talkin'? Fer a handheld console or somethin' else? Yer controller? Don't ya have a recharge station fer that or somethin'?" The tomboy wasn't exactly a hardcore gamer, so she didn't run into these issues all that often on her own. Jared was definitely the real gamer out of her circle of friends. She vaguely remembered him complaining on the phone about all of the recent good games that he had to get. She could never buckle herself down in front of a television for extreme periods of time to essentially only use her thumbs. Setting her elbow of her good arm on the table, she leaned forward and set her cheek upon her hand.

"So, tell me... which of th'onslaught of games did ya pay out th'a** for?"
PostPosted: Tue Nov 22, 2011 12:52 am

With the menu gone, it was one less thing for Sheldon to play with with his idle fingers so he went to making circles on the tabletop with his index finger.

"Just normal AAs for my controller and whatever else ever needs batteries," which wasn't a lot these days with everything being able to just recharge through AC power. "I never really needed the recharge station, batteries are more simple." That and it was just something else he would need to buy. True, it would be cheaper in the long run... Sheldon shrugged.

"I've probably gotten all of them that you've heard about," he mused, mostly in spite of himself. It was nice to have his collection up and running again, the summer had such a dry spell. It hurt his wallet though, "there were a lot that came out in the last few weeks. It was weird." The boy sighed, defeated as he leaned his head on his propped hand.

Her head nodded faintly as she held it there against her hand. "Eh... it gave ya a reason t'get off yer a** and do somethin' other than sit in front of yer TV or monitor or whatever... so I guess it ain't all that bad that ya don't have a recharge station." She couldn't help but smirk.

"Well... Jared was practically orgasmin' on th'phone with me 'bout th'Batman game... he mentioned Modern Warfare... and then there's Skyrim an' Saint's Row as well..." She rolled her eyes slightly. "Lucky b*****d gets Mommy t'buy him all of his games while he sits on his a** and ignores school or gettin' a job." There was something in Ellie's tone that sounded more disgusted than envious of her friend's situation. It probably had something to do with the fact he was holding off for a video game QA position. He was one of her older friends, but he was turning more and more into a loser.

"Well, it's gettin' close t'the holidays and junk... they probably are tryin' t'get all of th'good games out so they can be pimped fer Christmas presents and junk." Her one shoulder shrugged a bit. "I might look into Modern Warfare and Saint's Row once I'm able t'work again... the other ones ain't my style though."
PostPosted: Wed Nov 23, 2011 11:50 am

It wasn't hard to miss that disapproving tone in Ellie's voice, "I only managed to get most of them thanks to preordering and putting money down when I had it," he didn't have the best job, but it paid for all the little luxuries he liked to acquire; especially when collector's editions were involved. It also didn't hurt that his parents also helped him out from time to time, this was probably something Sheldon was going to leave out for now.

"That's usually the case," Sheldon had to agree. By this time a busboy finally came around with water for the mint haired boy along with any drinks the duo had ordered.

"I can see you enjoying either of those games, but I see you more of a Saint's Row type of person," Sheldon offered his opinion after popping a straw into his cola. Though, he had heard the multiplayer was a lot better in SR, he preferred Modern Warfare since he wasn't much of an online player.

"I was playing a little bit of Skyrim, the gameplay is amazing."

The blonde didn't get any beverage, so she simply had water. Her dad would have been proud, considering it was one of his philosophies to only get water when eating out since water is free. Ellie knew her dad was too frugal for his own good, but that didn't mean some of his lessons in life hadn't stuck with her.

"Preorders are for collectors and nerds... not for someone who jus' plays on occasion." In all honesty, it would be lucky if Ellie managed to finish the storyline for any video game within 6 months of purchase. She wasn't the sort to sit in front of a TV under normal circumstances to watch shows. The tomboy liked doing things, not sitting around on her a** and turning into a zombie. Video games weren't much better. The only appeal was having the ability to screw around with fake cars on video games and occasionally having something to do with other people if she had company over. Not everyone enjoyed watching her work in the garage on The Vortex.

At Sheldon's assessment, Ellie couldn't help but laugh. "A grease monkey like myself enjoyin' a game 'bout cars? What's this nonsense?!" She laughed some more, as if she had just told a good joke before she added something else. "Saint's Row is th'sh*t! Got th'other two games, and I haven't been disappointed yet!"

The mention of Skyrim unfortunately only got one assessment from the tomboy. "I don't waste m'time with nerd-games."
