Death Hunter DEATHSWEEPER General Information The large stone cavern with the tiled floor and large yellow smiley face is likely familiar to at least several trainees, and may even feature in a few nightmares from time to time. Welcome to Deathsweeper, the training course that may only be attempted via c-type golem, and often acts as a testing ground for the Life Division's more painful creations. Stealth and detecting imminent danger are vital for Death Hunters and anyone who has to spend extended amounts of time near Caelius. The Deathsweeper chamber is full of hidden traps that only the finest of survival instincts can survive unscathed.
If you fail: you get to once again relive the sensation of dying. Painfully and sometimes quite strangely.
If you win: you have survived stepping 5 tiles into the room. Anything further is purely for peen and bragging rights.
Mechanics roll 1 d10 check for hp loss and death decide whether or not to use your bonuses if you survive, repeat. roll list: the traps are ICly constantly changing, so feel free to get creative as to what exactly those traps are!

Bonus Mechanics This bonus is consumable. All participants get a flag, this flag will allow your character to notice something about the area they're stepping into. OOCly this means you can adjust your rolled number, up or down, by one point. Instinctive moves are used in the same manner as flags. These are stackable, so if you have 1 flag + 1 instinctive move, you can use them up in order to adjust your roll by two.
(If you roll a 1, you may not move your number down to 0, -1, or 10. And 10 cannot be adjusted to 1 or 11.)

He tried to figure out why the hell he was doing this again.
<< Because you're an idiot? >>
"That is not helpful," muttered Gale, giving the rifle in his hands a dark look. Not that he'd really expected Jinhai to be wildly supportive of his every move, but sometimes the gun just irked him.
Times like now, for instance, when he was severely lacking in the encouragement department.
<< Just admit it. I'm the best thing that ever happened to you - even if you are a spineless eel. >>
"If that's supposed to be reassuring, it wasn't really. Just saying."
The rifle made a humming noise. << Perhaps not reassuring, but maybe I'm just humoring you. >>
"I'm still trying to figure out how on Earth I got stuck with you as a weapon."
<< Ditto that. Except, you know, a human like yourself. >>
Gale rolled his eyes, but he couldn't really deny that despite everything, he and the sniper rifle were a good match. Where he was reckless and confident, Jinhai was calm and collected - and yes, sometimes blunt and ill humored, but truth be told the rifle had gotten him through an awful lot over the past few months of being in Deus Ex.
Not that he would ever, in a hundred years, admit that to the rifle. The weapon's ego was big enough; he didn't need Jinhai gloating over the fact that he had been useful.
<< Shall we get started, then? >>
"Ready when you are."

Step number one... Gale thought, peering suspiciously into the room. He did not really trust anything that had to do with the Death Hunters, if only because of their currently indisposed leader. Even though Caelius was bedridden, however, Gale would not have been surprised if he came down right that second and turned everything to hell in a hand basket.
<< You've gotta admit, though...the man's got strength. I mean, just look at how he handled himself during the last battle. >>
I don't really need to be reminded of that, actually, but thanks, Gale thought dryly. Caelius is...well, Caelius. And seeing as how I'm a Death Hunter, I get stuck with him.
<< It could be worse. >>
How, exactly?
<< You could be a girl and stuck with Doctor H. >>
...good point.
Gale lifted his foot to take a step, but -
<< Did you know, >> said Jinhai conversationally. << That that tile has what appears to be green acid around the edges of it? >>
Gale promptly switched his step to the side. As it was, this tile didn't kill him, but he did suddenly get thrown to the side as something exploded with a bang beneath him.

<< And that step seems to have sharp things beneath it. >>
Gale was beginning to wonder if it was even possible to get to the other side of the room. His back and legs had already started to ache because of the bombs (or whatever they were) that had been beneath the first tile - and now he had to figure out just which step wouldn't send him spiraling towards an unpleasant death.
Because, despite the fact that they were very much human, Gale was in the body of a clay-like golem with a flat face, a bumpy, misshapen skull, and no hair. It was not exactly the most flattering attire, but one could not be too picky - especially with the golems, of all things.
And especially since said golem would most likely wind up getting smashed, blown up, stabbed, cut, shot at, or whatever else was thrown at it from these courses - Gale did not really want to think about what else lay in store for he and Jinhai across the way.
<< Well. You've managed to get two steps in. >>
How much do you want to bet I can make it?
<< ....nothing. >>
You doubt my abilities THAT much? Thanks a lot.
<< Not so much that, as in, I'm quite used to the antics of Doctor H and Caelius by now and would not be surprised if this training obstacle course is impossible to cross. >>
...true. Well. Can't hurt to try anyway.
<< Well, actually - >>

Clearly Gale was not meant to actually get across this course, since the next tile he stepped on erupted in an explosion of hot lava.
LAVA?! screeched Gale internally, even as the burning liquid spread across his arms and legs, engulfing him completely. What the devil is that man thinking?!
<< Probably something along the lines of "How can I make this the most horrible way to die ever? >>
Thank you so much, Ginny, grumbled Gale, just before the last of the lava consumed him and the clay-like body of the golem crumpled and collapsed beneath the heat, dust drifting aimlessly through the air.Status Step: 2HP: 0/40 - DED Flags: 0 Instinctive moves: 0

When Gale awoke, he was back in his old body.
"Well, that sucked."
<< Lava, of all things. Whodathunk, hmm? >>
"Next time I'm going to go and do something else. Like, something that doesn't have to do with training courses designed by who-knows-who."
<< Sounds good to me. >>
With a sigh, Gale dragged himself out of the room and back down the hall towards his own room to take a very long nap.
