Well my NaNo session is starting to wind down, so I was thinking about starting up a game here (and finally do some RP'ing in this guild, heh...). I have a Final Fantasy based game that I'd like to rework and bring over here. It's rather detailed and allows just about anything FF related to show up.
A bit more on it... in the past, there was this evil emperor who ruled the whole world, until he got sealed away on a lifeless island. People assumed he would finally die, but in the present, the emperor's old palace has shown signs of becoming active and his servants in the four fiends have become active again despite their sealing. The quest is to stop the Fiends and figure out what's going on at the palace. Oh, and there's trouble with some cursed Espers too. Old-school FF style!
One of the issues that may have contributed to its first crash was the two-party system. I had two groups starting in two different places in the first version; this was because it was on a rather active site and I didn't want to limit the amount of players too much. But it was a bit of a headache doing things that way, keeping track of both parties.
On the other hand, I've had quite a few games where the problem was having too many characters in one place. Especially when this is kind of traditional FF-esque with boss fights and dungeons. One person is late posting and the whole fight stalls.
I suppose then, I'd like to know: a: how many people would be interested? b: would you like to see separate parties or just one?
Any questions about the game itself I'll gladly answer too.

Interesting... I myself am a huge fan of FF. I started an FF rp a while ago, based off of FFX/X-2. Mostly about the children of the characters of FFX/X-2. Unfortunately, it never kicked off.
I'm curious to see where this idea goes... As well a little intrigued...

I'm a huge fan of Final Fantasy. I'm partway through a game of X myself (once I got past the forced Blitzball match that stopped me the first time, it's kept my interest). This game I wrote up is based more on the older ones; IV had a huge influence since I was playing that one at the time.
The RP itself is called Final Fantasy: Fallen Empire.

I'm tweaking it for a single party... ah, here we go. Quote: At one time, the Earth was united under a single ruler: the cruel Magic Emperor Krysan. Krysan spent many years building up his power, infusing his body with so many defenses and safeguards that he was virtually immortal. He stole the four Crystals to enhance his own power. He summoned demons, including the four Elemental Fiends, in order to enforce his rule. And when the people tried to fight back, he mercilessly slaughtered towns, cursed the thirteen most powerful Espers to stone, and destroyed many heroes and heroines. The Magic Emperor ruled for a terrible 250 years from his island fortress, not caring that his methods were slowly draining the lifeforce of the whole planet. As more and more lands were turning into wastes, numerous people came together to figure out how to defeat Krysan. It took many sacrifices, but the four Crystals were taken back and returned to their shrines. When the Fiends were sent to retrieve them, the power of the Crystals was used to seal the Fiends inside the shrines, cutting off their influence on the world. Then the Magic Emperor was banished from his own palace, sent into the Deadly Wastes that surrounded it, and then cut off from the rest of the world. This seems to have worked, as Krysan’s forces died off and his rule was ended. It has been another 250 years since the last days of the Magic Emperor. Much of that time has been peaceful as no one wanted to see a repeat of the terrors of those days. It was assumed that the Deadly Wastes finally killed him off and the world was free of his evil. In the other wastelands of the world, nature reclaimed itself and returned to normal. Yet, the shrines to the Crystals remained firmly sealed, and the thirteen High Espers remained as unchanging stone. In the past year, things have been changing ominously. The monsters of the wilderness have multiplied rapidly, growing more active and violent. The lands surrounding the Crystal Shrines have mysteriously reverted back to wastes, causing worry that the Fiends are breaking out of their seals. And sailors have said that they have seen lights from Krysan’s Great Palace. Someone is there, but who? It is time for a new band of heroes to rise up and finish off the remains of the Magic Emperor’s legacy. But is this the work of Krysan, or someone else entirely? It’s up to you to find out. In the Adventurer’s Guild of Port Caldor, Mysidia, an elven bard has asked for assistance in reaching the cursed High Espers. You have accepted his offer and are about to embark on an epic adventure. That is most of what was in the original version of the game. The last paragraph has been tweaked already, as there was another party starting from a castle on orders from the king. I'm probably gonna cut down the number of High Espers too. So then, the game has three goals: free the High Espers and gain their help, defeat the Elemental Fiends at the Crystal Shrines, and get into Krysan's palace and figure out what's going on in the world.

I'm interested. Of the main series I've only played XIII, but I own two Chrystal Chronicles games and the two Dissidias. So far I love the idea, but by game, do you mean we'd be using old school number-based battle? Or did I misinterpret that entirely?
Also, what races will there be? Final Fantasy has a differentiation. From the minor races to the major.

Oh Final Fantasy!
Ah races...that's a good question.
And one group is better I think...this place isn't super active sooo yea. Or we could do the other group as NPCs or something...like when they run into each other and such.

It won't be number-based battles; it just uses FF terminology and ideas. I generally let players handle minor enemy battles, and then play out bosses as full characters that can be bantered with or fought (including character sheets). I do keep a d20 and other dice around, just in case, but most fights I just eyeball and call it good.
As for races... well, most anything goes provided it was in a Final Fantasy game. The exceptions would be monster races and l'Cie or whatever that was in XIII (somebody asked and I determined that the pact with turning into crystals was too much to add to this plot). I also accept races and classes from spin-off games, to a point. So I'd accept a Selkie from Crystal Chronicles, but not a Nobody from Kingdom Hearts. KH is enough of its own series and again, it'd be too distracting.
The main races that will be met in the game are humans, elves, and dwarves, though.

If we have humans, what about Selkies and Clavats? They are two racially different organisms. Are we going to have tribes or something?
In Example: Name: Blah Race: Human: Tribe: Clavat/Selkie/Imperial/etc Etc:

I said I'd be okay with Selkies. They'd count as a different race from humans. I know, there's not a lot of difference, but there's only one race category in the sign-up. As for Clavats... well they're basic humans, so a Clavat character would simply be a human.
Technically, the four races of FF:CC are said to be all human.

Whatever works then.
What about the world map? How many continents are there? Just one?

I don't have one drawn. I have one written though!
Four continents, though one is rather large. Three major 'kingdoms' (one's a magocracy). I try not to set down too much just in case a player or I wants to throw something in, but some landmarks are certain.
I'll work on it some more tonight, so hopefully I can get the OoC (+ infodump) and Character threads up tomorrow.
