Things had drastically changed for Utsuri the past couple of months. For one, she wasn't with her pride anymore. Well, rather... her pride was no more. Something had happened, she wasn't sure what, but everyone went their own way. It was sad, at first. She realized it was also good too. She didn't have to worry about being treated like a low female, even though that was what she was use to. She was use to doing all the dirty work for the brighter females. It was tough to do sometimes, but it was all she knew.
Now... now she had no direction, no sense of home. She was wondering helplessly. She had lost her family; they had all gone their own way. She let out a deep sigh. She was scared; not wanting to admit it. Looking at her paws, she wasn't paying attention to anything around her. Her thoughts were the only thing that mattered for the moment.

It had been a long time now since Theluji had seen another lion, let alone an acquaintance of any kind. He stuck out like a sore thumb along the savannah grasses and the wide open blue sky, yet no other creatures even seemed to pay him any attention unless he was hunting them. Although the years were passing him by to the point where lonesomeness was a normal life, he was constantly wondering lately if he would ever find a companion of any kind to accompany him as life carried him along. Was it because he was an adult male lion? He respected the creatures below him, and if needed he would keep one in his company. Did he have no friends because of the way he spoke? Wasn't it supposed to be natural to be a little cold, a little bit closed off towards others at first? Surely you aren't supposed to simply warm up and trust another so swiftly. Besides, it wasn't his fault that he spoke to others that way at first; it was simply apart of who he was, apart of his genes. Surely he can't be blamed for that?
He looked across the lands around him, only a few trees dotting the far-off horizon that was a matter of infinite miles away. Nothing was new for him once again today. Land stretching boundlessly in every direction, no allies at his side, and only a few non-lions traveling on their own schedules and directions. Sighing to himself, he sat down on his haunches as he began to contemplate what things he could possibly come up with doing with his time. Suddenly, a solid being slammed right into his back, startling him and causing his fur to bristle slightly. He turned around, trying to see just who had bumped into him. "Geez, can't you watch where you're going? Personal space exists, y'know." After getting a good look at who it was, he couldn't help but to bite back on his tongue a bit as a remark towards himself, not knowing that it was a beautiful lioness who had walked into him. He opened his mouth to apologize to her, but because of his usual front, the words lost their way out of his throat.

Utsuri had ran into something. It wasn't a tree, for it was far too fluffy to be one. At first, she had forgotten how she got there, then she realized she had been walking while looking at her feet. She didn't do it often, she was taught better than that. Plus, she use to live in an area full of trees. She stood back quickly, as a voice filled her ears. Her eyes still hadn't caught up with the rest of her body. Then all at once, her vision let her finally see the white and gray male.
The only thing that stood out to her was his eyes.... bright orange. Almost as orange as she was. She'd never had to apologize to a male, males were the lowest rank of all. Though, this wasn't her pride anymore. She knew things were all the same. She had seen it the past few days. She had also learned not to do things she normally did. Though, maybe a few things, like paying attention, wouldn't hurt too much.
"Sorry," She started off. "I suppose I was into my thoughts too much." She said as if she were talking to a high ranked female. It was strange having to do this. But that was how life was; strange in every sense. She was lost, and had no home, she was new to these drier areas of land. The forest was where she belonged, but she felt like she didn't belong there anymore. After the disbanding of her pride.
She carefully looked him over. "I'm Utsuri" She finally said. She figured if he wanted to hurt her, he would have done it before he even said anything.

(( Sorry for the wait! School kept me tremendously busy yesterday! ;_; ))
Caught a bit off-guard with how respectful and smooth her voice was, Theluji couldn't help but to bite his tongue, blinking at her for a short moment. "Ah, sure. But you ought to be more careful than that! If you were prey, you could have been killed by now! It would help to be more careful!" Geez, he just sounded like some sort of grumpy old lion lately! This was no way to treat a young lady, he knew that much! Briefly, he looked down at his paws, flexing his claws against the dry dirt beneath him. He looked back up into her eyes, surprised to see just how much of a lavender shade they were. It was such a random color, compared to the rest of the color scheme on her coat, but they were lovely nonetheless.
"I suppose I ought to introduce myself, as well. The name's Theluji, but you can call me Ji or Luj, if you wish to." Feeling a bit uneasy and awkward, he shuffled his front paws a little bit and waved his tail behind his body. He blinked at her a few times, a bit baffled with actually interacting with another lion, before adding, "So, that's an interesting name you have there. I haven't heard such a name from around this area, at least in a long time." It wasn't necessarily the fact that this lion was a lioness, per say, but more the fact that it had been such a long time since he had any sort of interaction with another creature, and being that he lived on his own for the majority of his life, so he never really learned any sort of proper socializing skills. Although he was too accustom to his loneliness, something about meeting this young lady wished that he didn't scare her off quite just yet. Besides, he had no idea when he would stumble across someone else in the future, anyway...

She was sure if she was pray, she wouldn't be in this area in the first place, but she couldn't know that for sure; she wasn't pray. She wasn't about to tell him that. After all, he might come up with some intelligent reason to prove her wrong. She didn't find him as a grumpy old man. On the contrary, she would have been pretty upset if someone had ran into her as well. He was taking it far better then she would have. Utsuri felt kind of ashamed of herself now. How did she even get to not paying attention. Oh right, she was thinking about her pride and the problems that she had been through the past few days... She sighed.
"Pleased to meet you, Theluji." She said. She didn't know him enough to use a nickname, even if he said she could. It wasn't how she was. You had to earn the right for those nicknames, in her eyes. "It means fish." She told him. That was what she had been told by her mother, at one point. "It was tradition in my pride to be named after fish in my clan" She told him. Of course, she didn't know why. Her pride was no more.
"I'm not from around here." she said, just in case it wasn't obvious enough. "I'm... lets say.... Lost."

"Likewise," he mumbled back to her as she used her own formalities when he told her his name, trying his best to practice what he was told was "common courtesy". It wasn't like he was going to see this lioness again, anyway, after their conversation was over, so what did it matter if he made a fool of himself a little bit in order to get some practice? He wasn't going to see her again, right? The savannahs of which he roamed were just so big, it would be such a slim chance to run back into a brand new acquaintance. Was there just a pang that jabbed lightly at his heart with these thoughts?
His ears pricked themselves upwards and his eyes kindled a spark of curiosity at her words of being in a pride, even if it was in her past. "You mean...you actually belonged to a pride? What's that style of living like? I can only imagine how much different it is from being on your own!" Theluji was about to continue on with his mini rant, but he realized he was letting his cubbish side get the best of him again with such information; a side which he felt was very weak to show to other creatures, especially 'strangers'. "Well, you see, that just seems like an interesting topic. I've never really seen or been into a pride, myself, but I've heard lots of stories of such groups." He drew his ears back for a few moments, feeling a bit confused once again with such a social situation. It wasn't in a pose that should offend her, but everyone is different; so while he didn't quite notice what his ears were doing with his inner reactions, he had no idea just how she may react back to him, as well.
"Lost, you say?" Such a comment made his shoulders ad ears become more relaxed again, a bit baffled. He had never heard such a thing about a lion getting lost. Like himself, for example, although he was on his own, he wasn't lost. He was traveling along with himself, the only thing he seemed to belong to. If she was on her own now, shouldn't that mean the same thing? Or did this lioness perhaps become separated from her pride?

Pain struck her eyes, yet she didn't show any other emotion towards the subject. "I was.." She started, how was she to finish that? How was she to tell him how it was. It hurt to think about it. "I was born in a pride, and is all I know." She told him. Maybe talking about it might ease the pain in hear heart? "I was in a pride where females were most important. We were a warrior pride." She added. "We did the hunting, the fighting, everything." Well she didn't. She did the little things around the pride, she wasn't a good enough rank to do any of the other stuff. "Well, I wasn't." she added, but didn't say why. She gave him a week smile.
"I find it much easier to be in a pride, then on my own" She admitted. She had no shame of that. "My pride broke up, and everyone went their separate ways." She didn't know why she was tell him this, but for some reason it felt right. It felt like she needed to tell someone, anyone. He just happened to be the first she'd run into since.
"Yes, I have no clue where I am." She also felt exposed. She'd never been in an open area. The jungle was where she belonged. Or perhaps not anymore... She didn't know. "I'm not use to all this space. You see, I'm from the jungle."

He noticed a flash of pain and torment within her eyes when he mentioned her past pride, and for a moment he felt ashamed to had asked her such a thing. She obviously had some sort of difficult with such a topic, and he felt awfully rude about asking about it. He didn't feel as bad as she replied to him, however, seeming that it must not be as painful as it showed in her eyes; either that, or she was seriously tough on the inside. Kudos to her!
"For a female, that seems like a meaningful and enjoyable lifestyle. It's a shame you're not apart of it anymore; I'm sure I would miss such a thing, if I walked in your paws." He gave her a warm, gentle smile, something he rarely ever did, as she lightly told him that she was not apart of the females who did act such a way within her old pride. "Oh? And how come you say that? Right from the get-go, you seem like an able, worthy female to do such things. Any reason why they would possibly rule onto you like that?" He listened as she was kind enough to answer his, a stranger's, questions about her old home and her lifestyle opinions. He had to admit, it was very interesting to hear such points of view! Several of the things she shared he seemed to be the complete opposite of! He swished his tail around, before replying, "Ah, the being with a pride part I feel I can understand, but the open land, I cannot! While I can understand if you feel a bit exposed in the open sky, I would imagine that you would feel trapped or imprisoned being surrounded by so many trees and vines!"

"I have black and white on me." She told him. She knew he wouldn't understand. She wasn't bright, she wasn't unique. She was as natural as anyone could get in that pride. Well, she wasn't, but she was from her set of lines. She must have did something horrible in her past life.
She shook her head at him. He was strange, yet she couldn't' say that. They came from different places. Grew up in different lands. "It wasn't. Trees and vines make it easy for us to hide and sneak up on our pray. As well as hide from those who might want to hurt us" She explained "Out here.... There is no area to hide in, no safety....Nothing that's comforting." She gave him a weak smile.
"But I suppose, if you haven't been in the lands before......." She started, "It could be quite imprisoning." She took on a outsiders point of view. It was hell walking in a place that you didn't know. Like she was doing know.

(( I'm sorry for the delay! Thanksgiving week/end has kept me very busy! D: ))
"Huh? Black and white? So what?" If his words were offensive, he certainly did not mean for them to be. He had just never heard of such a thing before! To him, her appearance was rather appealing, and the black and white gave her coat a nice accent against the orange. He only asked such a thing because he was genuinely curious, of course. Part of his personality where his coldness thrived briefly kicked back in, causing him to scoff and add in, "That's a pathetic and ridiculous excuse to give. They must be some sort of arrogant if they would put you down for such a silly reason." He didn't even bother to think about or consider that it could be an ancient tradition of another pride until after the words had gratingly left his lips, and with his self-annoyance he lashed his tail around for a few times; he was supposed to be practicing how to socialize now that he had his chance, and this lioness seemed harmless enough. He really needed to learn when to keep his mouth shut and when to use his remarks.
Theluji couldn't help but to smile when he saw her shake her head at him, somehow thoroughly enjoying their mutual disagreements with each other and proving that two different beings could easily, yet civilly, find themselves at some sort of an impasse. He could tell that she was holding some sort of comment back, but being that she actually grew up around others, and held a lower ranking in her pride, that she obviously had more training in social situations than he did, and was daintily taking the polite way around. He listened to her words, however, eyes and ears focused on her lips. He allowed her to finish before he responded to her, although his stubborn side had shown itself once again. "Hmph. I suppose you are right about that. I can't really see how it is that much, but it's good that you can." No, that was wrong. He truly did understand her point of view, but why couldn't he just say so? "Besides, it wouldn't make much of a difference for a lion like me. Not only am I large enough, but the color of my coat would stand out in any type of enviornment, minus snow, so savannah or trees wouldn't make much of a difference for me."

Slight anger flashed over her. He'd never understand her ways. "Our pride was basted on colors. The brighter you were, the better you were" She told him, keeping her cool, yet a hint of anger in her words. Only slightly though. "The gods made us bright," she started, "but those who did wrong in the life before, they gave natural colors to." She shook her head "Someone that was completely unnatural did things right in their past life." She didn't know how much she can explain it, it was just common knowledge. How could he not see that?
She Studied him for a long moment before making her words. "I've seen plants that were white, as your fur." Of course the jungle had a ton of verities of colors, white came fairly rare. Yet, she had seen them. She didn't dare tell him that she hadn't seen many of them. "Either case, I suppose we both are two of the same." She nodded, she couldn't fit anywhere. Her black made her odd in the jungle, and her orange made her open in the Savannah. Nothing about her was easy to hide.
