Mist Hunter
The Miss Taken Tower

note: we'll be running this cooperatively, the same course, but we halve each others damage taken. Instead of -50% for one character, it will be -25% to both.

General Information
As the general, jack-of-all trades division, the Mist Hunter training course is a combination of the other divisions' training challenges and also one of the more complicated. The goal of this course is to rescue the princess in the tower. Below her, you'll find yourself confronted with a number of shadowling attackers, and beyond them, a room of only slightly deadly traps. But even should you reach her location, you still need to pick the lock on the manacles holding her in place. Unskilled fiddling with the locks will prove unhealthy for both the princess and yourself. And once that's done, you need to make your way back down through the traps and shadowlings, defending the princess the whole way.

The Miss Taken Tower is one of the most challenging and frustrating courses available.

If you fail: your princess dies, and you are quite possibly KO'd. Senior hunters are observing and will make with a timely rescue as needed.

If you win: the princess will adore you for the rest of her exceedingly brief existence. Peen points for 100% health for you and the Princess, shadowlings fought, going for consecutive rescues.

  • Part 1
    Mechanics
    - roll your regular attack
    - roll your regular attack again
    - if you miss an attack, you lose 50% of your full HP
    - if you have an available recovery bonus, you may try to use that to avoid HP loss

    Bonus Mechanics
    - This bonus is consumable.
    - for the Mist Course, it is recommended you review the mechanics of the other division courses, as the division bonuses carry over.

    - Trainees: 0 recoveries
    - Mist/Sun Trainees: 1 recovery
    - Hunters: 1 recovery
    - Mist/Sun Hunters: 2 recoveries

  • Part 2
    Mechanics
    - there are two steps worth of traps in this room, so you'll be rolling twice

    - roll 1 d10 to determine what your character is about to step into
    - use your bonus mechanic to adjust as you can
    - adjust your HP and bonus count accordingly
    - roll 1 d10 to determine what your character is about to step into
    - use your bonus mechanic to adjust as you can
    - adjust your HP and bonus count accordingly
    - roll list: (feel free to get creative about what the traps actually were)
(-50% HP is off your full HP, so if you hit -50% twice, then you are 100% KO'd)

    01. horrible death
    02. - 50% HP
    03. - 50% HP
    04. live
    05. live

    - Mist/Death Hunters: 1 flag and two instinctive moves

  • Part 3
    Mechanics

    Bonus Mechanics

    - Trainees: roll 1d4

And one last streeeeetch and, there. Clarice shook out her arms, did a little jog in place and determined that yes, she was ready to do this thing. For once leaving off her cloak, clipboard, and lady clothes, she was prepared to rock the tower in sweats and a tank. There would be no embarrassing falls due to clothing getting caught, this time. Nor would there be any, I-twirled-my-coat-dramatically-and-then-it-caught-on-fire incidents, either.

Remembering that last, Clarice paused before going through the portal. She wondered how that fire-proof hairgel project was going back in the labs.

Harrison considered if maybe he wouldn't have been better starting his training with beach fort-building, but he ultimately figured why not get a little stab at everything. He'd already had practice in climbing stairs to rescue a princess (or Jerry in a princess outfit, which was close enough). That and he had really, really wanted to see Clarice in action. And he was looking forward to working side-by-side with somebody who had a little more experience.

He grinned and summoned B0nez, one step behind her.

Oh right, she was not alone in this, and like hell she was going to look the least bit hesitant here. "Right then, you ready? All warmed up and ready to rescue a princess in distress? Because while getting KO'd here is pretty acceptable? Failing due to leg cramps is just plain sad. Also I expect you to have my back, and if my back happens to get stabbed due to leg cramps, we'll both be very, very sad."

"Got it," Harrison said. He looked up the length of the tower, unable to make out who was waiting for them at the top.

"So uh, out of curiousity, before we go in there- what exactly are shadowlings?"

"Living shadows, you know like in Peter Pan? Sometimes Halloween creatures lose their shadows, minipets and humans too. The doctor feels there must be more ways for the to come into existence, but those are the ways we know for sure. We draw them here, because they're just dangerous enough in groups to give us a challenge, but not too powerful to create actual problems. Right then, let's do this."

FLinging open the tower door, Clarice stepped in, summoned Hraegar in one smooth motion, and swung. The sword's mood was along the lines of finally.

She only managed to hit two shadowlings before moving in, and nearly getting her sword stuck in a wall you did not see that, but it was enough to begin a path.

Peter Pan? So actual...

Harrison stayed well out of the way of Hraegar, and Clarice's back in general, taking a stab at a shadowling as it tried to wriggle around behind them. Inky, blotty, wriggly...he suddenly felt self-conscious about his own shadow.

It's not doing anything weird
, B0nez said miserably. But I think that helped. Send me into a few more of them, will you?

"Right, watch yourself on the stairs, falling would be..." She swung again, this time with a slightly more satisfying impact, "...ill-advised."

Clarice was seriously happy she managed not to get her weapon stuck in a wall. Again. RAEG was just happy to be hitting ALL THE THINGS.

Harrison plucked the sword up, and aimed to do some slicing and dicing.

"At this rate, I should see about investing in a stair master," he joked.

The slice missed by a mile, and suddenly he was up to his neck in Shadowlings. There was a lot of growling, kicking, and dragging from his direction, before a half-squeaked, "C-Clarice."

A strong hand caught at his elbow and pulled him forward, "I gotcha." With her other hand, she swung Hraegar to try and clear a path to the next area. The sword let out an exultant roar as it ruthlessly cleared the final steps. "Okay, that...was pretty satisfying, gotta say. Ready for the next part?"

There were a lot of shadowlings. A lot. One fumble and they had all been on him at the same time, and then he'd been pulled up and out, and looked at Clarice with a mixture of admiration and awe as she smote shadows like she was just sweeping dirt off the steps.

"Thanks. ..I'm almost afraid to ask," Harrison said, after being saved from certain death. "What's the next part?"

As he steered his attention from the churning shadows and looked across the seemingly harmless tiled floor, he had a suspicion.
PostPosted: Sun Nov 13, 2011 10:33 pm

A familiar yellow smiley face beamed down at them from the wall. Clarice picked up two small flags and handed one over to him with a grin, "Oh, it's one you're pretty familiar with. Though these flags are actually useful, sometimes they can set off the trap before you're in range." Sometimes not so much. "And, since we're not in golems, the traps are pretty nerfed compared to the full-on Deathsweeper room." Of course, as far as comparisons went...pretty much anything is better than getting dropped into a vat of acid. Or piranhas. Or your teammate's body parts flying into your junk.

Harrison desummoned B0nez, doing his best to safely clip him to his beltloop, then accepted a flag.

"Let's get it over with," he muttered.

Familiar with? B0nez asked

In a limping to the finish, watching everybody else get blown up kind of way. She just went over it. But they're not...doing that here, with our real bodies. Either way, last time I hesitated...

You what?

Harrison hesitantly placed a flag on the first tile. He had survived. Last time he hesitated. But ended up with a boot...there was an unpleasantly familiar clicking sound as the tile sunk in, and several very sharp somethings shot out of the wall, and into him.

At least it wasn't his sensitives. He clapped a hand on his neck and arm.

Just tug them out, I've got it, B0nez said. How did you survive this the first time?

I needed a lot of bandages after.

"s**t," Clarice mumbled, and pulled out a few of the bloody somethings to see just what the hell hit her arm. Children's plastic ninja stars...hand sharpened to very dangerous points. She gave a soft snort, "Cute."

She carefully walked past Harrison's position and set down a flag, eyes and ears sharp...and there it was, a click and then the flag was suddenly incinerated. "Alrighty, I can't say I regret missing that one. Halfway there."

What the room lacked in length it apparently made up for in being packed with loaded tiles.

When he heard a second click, he started to doubt that there were any safe places to stand at all. Something very foul poured down from the ceiling, and while B0nez did what he could for injuries, there was nothing the pair of swords could do for the smell. Harrison looked at the ladder, and then back at Clarice, eyes filled with hope.

His hair was filled with something else.
