Another day had come, and she was still in the nursery. The small black pup felt as if she was dying of boredom. Tari and Jak’s owners both had come and gotten them for evenings away from the place they would call home for the beginning parts of their life, but here Kita was, left alone, with nothing but a bowl of sloppy kibble and a few chew toys littered over the place to keep her occupied. Unfortunately, that did no such thing. The puppy was getting restless. The two-legger that had become ‘hers’ had not come to visit in what seemed like ages in the young mokai’s mind. Even her mother was not able to slip into to have a bit of bonding time with her. No, Kita was left to herself. Sometimes, if she whined enough, the little female would catch the attention of the younger two leggers working in the nursery, and get lovings from them, but not today. Instead, the human with the balding head, and the gray hair growing from the sides of it was on guard, and he looked mighty grumpy. (Perhaps the same face her mother would make if something disgusted her. That would be a good way to describe it.)

To entertain herself, Kita took her dark red chew toy that was partially buried in a pile of blankets, and tossed that around. She would fling her head up, releasing it from her jaws, before running to where it had landed, and doing the same thing over again. After a few moments, the task became boring. Leaving the toy in the last place it landed, Kita flopped onto her side, rolling onto her back and giving it a wiggle. She found this action also amusing, though very useful to get those hard to reach itchy spots.

She stayed on her back for a few minutes, staring at the ceiling that Jak had once mentioned had steaks falling from it. Her stomach growled just from the thought. She wasn’t really hungry. She knew that there was a bowl of food waiting to be consumed by her just from this morning.

Rolling back on her sides, the female closed her eyes, sighing out of boredom. A few moments had passed, and she lulled herself into a light sleep.

The land was opened. Blankets no longer covered tiled grounds, nor was the sky the awful bland white color that they were subjected to at a daily basis. Instead, the sky was the prettiest blue, and the grass was long and sweet smelling. Black birds chirped in the air, flying into the sun, while clouds barely sifted in the air. Instead of feeling the climate controlled room, a soft wind was blowing constantly, yet the mokai present didn’t shiver. The sun kept warmth on her body, a feeling she definitely could get use to.

The wind picked up soon after, rustling the young mokai’s fur. The sky appeared to have darken a bit as well, leaving a slightly orange glow to what once was a bright blue. The rolling clouds had stopped rolling, giving the bottom a tint of purple, as if a storm was about to fall on the lands. Blinking her eyes against the growing harshness, she stood as still as she could. The wind seemed to be harboring someone(s). She stood her ground, until galloping mokai seemed to appear from the whisps of wind, circling her until no gap was left. The sharp pins of the wind had stopped the moment each mokai had settled down.

“Who are you?” One spoke, a male, likely the leader of the pack.

There was about five or six mokai standing around her. Some were black, one brown and the last one who spoke was as white as could be. Even her father was less bright then this one. He had bright blue eyes, but no distinguishing features like that of her mother or father. He seemed rather plain looking, but sometimes that was an okay factor.

“I’m Kita. Who are you?” Her golden eyes were curious, and it showed too.

“Our name is of no importance to you.” Their eyes, each of different colors, landed right on her flashy golden collar. Sneers were placed on a few maws, while others held a look of fear, and the rest just disgust in general. A few inaudible speeches from the surrounding mokai were quickly hushed, before louder words were spoken.

“Why do you come here?” The white mokai spoke again.

Kita shook her head. “I don’t know.”

“Then return to the place from which you came. If you don’t understand the reason to be here, then you obviously are not ready to live the life we all have chosen to live. Come back when you find out your reasons. Howl into the wind, and you will find that we may be closer than you think. But, be warned, you will be tested.”

“Tested on what?”

“When you figure yourself out, only then will you find out.”

The wind picked up again, encasing the pack of mokai in a whirlwind before disappearing as quickly as it came. The sky returned to that once pretty blue, and the clouds were being pushed by the light breeze. As if the wind had never appeared had the life around her gone back to normal. Golden eyes pondered the words, the life, the meaning, and the beings in general.

When her vision faded in her dream, she awoke from her slumber. She hadn’t known how much time had lapsed, but she found a fresh bowl of the water-down kibble, as well as a small plate of wet food in the nursery for supper time. Neither Tari nor Jak had returned, so she just figured tonight would be another lonely night by herself.

Even without the realm of dreams encasing her, thoughts of the open land had crossed her mind. Whatever lied beyond the walls, Kita intended to find out. Not today, and not tomorrow, but one day.
