After awakening, the pink haired Elite agent made certain to get the run down as to what had happened during the period of time she was unconscious. Unfortunately, problems had arose and there had been a casualty. And now it was her duty to tie up loose ends. Unable to get out of the bed she had awoken in, she had requested Asch be summoned to meet with her. She definitely was not dressed for the part at the moment, but that did not seem to matter to her. She had many bandages wrapped up along her arms and other areas of her body, and her hands were swollen to the point of practically useless. By the time the agent would arrive, she was in an upright position so she could sit. Kunai always had a serious expression upon her face, so it was fitting that she had to deliver some serious news to the Agent.

Asch had been ill since that stupid Halloween party. It would be his luck that there would be an important raid just as he managed to get a high fever. Still, he had insisted on going with his partner, but Kunai had refused. Feeling dejected, he had spent the last couple days holed up in his room, sulking and trying to recover. His fever had finally broke earlier that day. He had then received the summons. Plus Aila had yet to return. Something was up.
The agent wasn't exactly in formal wear himself. Dressed in sweatpants and a t-shirt, he'd made his way to the infirmary. He needed to stock up on medicine again anyway. However, business came first, and Asch was directed to Kunai's room, where he knocked on the door.
As soon as he was given the clear, he walked in. Closing the door behind him, he gave her a feeble salute. The agent was a mess. His usually neat hair was mussed up from being in bed, despite his efforts to straighten it up before he came. Plus he was paler than usual, and his green eyes were glassy.
"Ma'am," he croaked, his voice hoarse from whatever it was that plagued him.

The girl in her bed nodded to him as he offered the salute. The formalities even in his condition were appreciated. "Take a seat." She glanced to a nearby chair.
"If I were able, I would have preferred to have this conversation in my office." However, given her current situation, it seemed as if she'd be stuck here for a while longer. If she was the sort to do chit-chat, she might have asked him about how he was feeling. She didn't need to ask, he sounded like crap, and looked the part too. She didn't really have room to criticize considering her own appearance, but she was going to criticize anyways.
"I have the duty to inform you that during the mission, your assigned partner, Aila was injured in the line of duty. She was brought to our transport, but passed due to a lack of medical attention. I was incapacitated at the time, but it has been reported she died an honorable death, protecting another fellow Rocket."
There was no warmth in her voice, not even an ounce of sympathy in her tone. She was doing her job, no matter how ugly the situation might have been.

When told to take a seat, he did. Asch parked himself on the chair that she had indicated and waited silently for whatever the elite wished to speak to him about. He had no idea why she would summon him here, especially when she was in such terrible condition herself. The bandages certainly had not gone unnoticed. That mission must have been hell if even Kunai had been so severely wounded.
However, as Kunai delivered the news, Asch's face turned from tired... to attentive... and then shock. Green eyes widened and his face went a couple shades whiter. It took a few moments for it to truly sink in and before he was able to actually speak.
"Wh... what?"
Too stunned and ill to completely think straight, those were the only words that came to mind at first.
Aila.... Aila was.. dead?

Kunai was not the sort to comfort. She was the sort to do her job and do it efficiently. She was able to look a man in the eyes who had lost someone he cared about and continue to give him the unpleasant necessary details. It wasn't pleasant, but nobody said being a part of Team Rocket was meant to be pleasant.
"There will be a full report on the mission put together once I am able to get back into my office. You will be able to read in full detail what happened. You will also be assigned a new partner once we are able to locate a suitable match."
Her expression remained even and unchanging as the man lost the color to his face (which was already pretty lacking due to his illness). "If you have any questions, I will answer them to the best of my ability, but keep in mind I was incapacitated during the time your partner had been injured."

Leaning forward, Asch put his head in his hands as the full weight of the situation settled on him, listening silently to Kunai's words.
NO. He didn't WANT another partner. He wanted Aila back. She was the closest thing he'd had to a friend in this dismal place. But it wasn't to be, and he knew that. She was gone. Forever.
However, he couldn't stop thinking about her. Their missions together, teaching her how to use the sword and picking out a rapier for her. Then when they had danced together at the party.
Asch's teeth clenched and his fingers gripped his hair, trying to push these thoughts to the back of his mind, along with the rest of the painful memories he had buried there.
Finally he looked up again, his expression a stoic mask as he sat up once more. She had given him an opportunity to ask questions, and he had one.
"Ma'am, who was it that she tried to protect?"

The pink haired girl continued to watch the man in front of her as he dealt with his grief. She had seen this many times before under various circumstances. She was the sort who did not mourn the dead. She honored the individual's contributions to Team Rocket, no matter how small such might have been. However, she also was not the sort to bond, and her partner was a Pokemon. No human could compare to Prototype2. Kunai would die before the Mewtwo did. It was simply a fact she had accepted.
"It was reported that Agent Aila had jumped in the way of the attack by Deimos' Shaymin to protect Grunt Nakura."
Personally, she would have preferred the casualty to have not been an Agent, however, that wasn't a choice she was going to have at the moment.

Any attempt to be calm and stoic was suddenly thrown out the window. As Kunai's sentence ended, Asch was again stunned... and then in the next moment his face twisted into an expression of rage. However, he tried to control himself, considering he was in a hospital and in the presence of his commander. Yet, his hands balled up into fists.
Had it been just about anyone else, Asch would have admired Aila's noble effort. But it had been Nakura, and Asch hated Nakura. So he was only left to wonder... WHY? Why would she sacrifice herself for that creep? That couldn't be right. Someone had lied to Kunai, or something. Aila would never... No.. he must have pushed her into the explosion or something. He must have made it so that her death would save his a**. Asch would not believe this!
Trying to be as calm and professional as he could, though, Asch didn't voice these thoughts. He simply nodded, yet the hard expression on his face spoke volumes. He was not happy about this one bit, and was doing everything he could to not act out in a rage.
"I see. That's the only question I had," he said quietly, his voice strained.

The Elite Agent was familiar with reactions. And she'd have to be extremely ignorant to not realize they were in a crime organization. Sometimes there were maladjusted people who worked in the organization. The look of hate in Asch's eyes did not go ignored. Of course, the redhead seemed to try to stifle such emotions. It was respectable in her opinion.
"Just as a word of advice... do not do anything rash with that information, Agent Asch. I am in no mood to deal with any reprimands that put a capable Agent in the brig. You will soon have a lot on your plate, since many were reported as injured."
There was a pause before she lifted both of her hands to show Asch the condition the digits were in. "I will need reliable agents to be actively working while the others recover." As she set her hands back to her lap she asked the man sitting before her "Am I making myself clear, Agent Asch?"

Thoughts of hatred and anger circulated around in Asch's mind.
He should have been on that mission. If he had been there, then he might have been able to prevent this. It was his fault.. no... It was Nakura's fault! If he hadn't gotten sick, Asch could have protected her.
The anger mixed with feelings of guilt and sadness, which just fueled his rage all the more.
However, Kunai's words soon cut through his thoughts and Asch blinked once, his look of rage starting to subside. He heaved a sign and nodded again. "Yes, ma'am."

The redhead had proven in the past he was reliable, and at the moment, he seemed to be holding up well. However, he would still be under observation for a short period of time, in case of any sort of relapse.
Having finished with her duties, she stated "You are dismissed, Agent." Though she didn't know of his plans to get more medicine, she added "Be sure to take something that will clear that up. Sickness won't be a suitable excuse for you to be inactive now."

Being dismissed, Asch stood up and started for the door but not without a final salute. "I understand," he told her cooly, with his hand on the door knob.
He respected Kunai, and didn't wish to let her down. However, Asch was going to get answers. He would have words with Nakura at the very least. He wouldn't be able to concentrate on his duties until he had at least some semblance of closure.
Aila...
With that, Asch took his leave, and walked down the halls. After visiting with a doctor and getting more medicaton, Asch went on his search for Izaya.
