Today was a treat for little Jak, who wasn't entirely all that little anymore, and he bounded alongside Andi. He had accustomed himself to the annoying leash she had on him by then, so it wasn't too difficult. She let him walk a little ahead of her, but at the word of her father she would draw him to her side if he got a little too far or tugged a little too hard. The older human was starting to rub him the wrong way, but Andi seemed glad to follow his instruction to he just put up with it.
They were in the park today, on a leisurely walk as a reward for not running away for a day when Andi decided to try leaving his without a leash. She wouldn't risk doing that here, but as he was already used to the thing it wasn't that big a deal anymore.
The three of them stopped at a bench about halfway through the park, and Andi had tied him to the bench while she went with her dad to grab something to snack on. She promised to bring him back a little something, so the pup was certainly looking forward to it.

"We had a good morning, guess people are feeling pretty generous today." Castiel laughed cheerily while tossing a bag of coins in the air and catching it in his palm with the same hand. A majority of the metal tokens had been scraped out of his open guitar case just this morning and that seemed to have improved their outlook on the day by leaps and bounds. Of course, it didn't hurt that the weather was perfect for spending all day outdoors the way this pair of entrepreneurs did.
It pleased the Mokai to see his human having a good day, tail flicking with his own sense of fulfillment. When Castiel was happy, he often rather generous with his mood. Extending the gesture to Warwick in various ways, like a big meal--or something of that fashion.
That's what had brought them to the park today. The unleashed cull jogging briskly at the musician's side as they made their way along the cobblestone path that was shared by pedestrians and carriages alike. Wick wasn't entirely sure where they were headed or what Cas had planned for the rest of the day, but it was clear that the rest of the afternoon was open to whatever struck their fancy. Having a self employed owner meant hard times on occasion, but there were also times when it worked in their favor. "Maybe we'll play fetch for a while, yeah? There's got to be a stick around here somewhere. It's a park for heaven sake."
Murmuring to himself as he veered off the path into the grass, Warwick was about to follow when a scent drew his attention further down the road. He smelled another Mokai and in the distance could make out a shape sitting beside an empty bench. Hmm. Watching his distracted owner for a moment he laughed under his breath at how intent Castiel was on trying to find a fallen branch. I don't think he'll mind..
Although not typically the sort to stray far from his master's side, today Warwick strayed to the tethered Mokai, realizing as he drew closer that it was the tiniest one he'd ever encountered! Even smaller than the pets some high brow ladies kept in their lap, his head quirking to one side when he'd gotten as close as he dared, sitting in front of the pup. He seemed to be in good condition and his collar even had a shiny gold name tag dangling from it, apparently he was in the care of good humans. So then.. why was he all alone? Hey there..

Jak hadn't been paying all that much attention to his surroundings. His golden gaze was focused in the general direction that Andi and her father had gone in, in search for food and the treat he was really looking forward to eating. That being the case, the sudden sound of an unfamiliar voice startled the pup, causing his fur to bristle, and he shuddered. When he took second to gather himself, he ventured a glance in the voice's direction. The larger male didn't seem all that hostile, much to Jak's relief, so he turned, stood up and shook out his fur to get of the icky feeling of getting crept up on.
"Hi," he said with a small smile before taking a seat again. "Howcome you're not on a leash?" Jak went on to ask, scrunching his brows a little and putting on a pouty sort of expression. He wanted his leash-less life back...

Oops. Watching the fur spike along the pup's back Warwick chuckled quietly to himself. He hadn't meant to startle the little thing, but who would have thought it'd be so easy? Not that this cull was the sort to brag. Instead he waited quietly for the pup to collect himself, smirking at the way he shook off his own raised hackles and greeted Wick as if he hadn't just had the fright of his life. Leash?
Repeating the unfamiliar word a bit awkwardly, he had to assume that he meant the rope that was keeping the pup tied to the bench leg. Shoulders lifting in a shrug. Don't know. Guess Castiel doesn't think I need one. Did your human leave you here?
Despite how he tried to sound nonchalant Warwick felt the concern creep into his words. If the little one was abandoned, would his master be willing to take in another Mokai?

It wasn't until he got a proper look at the strange mokai that he realized he was a cull. Not that he was judgmental about them; in fact, he was rather fond of culls because of their cull would-be guard at home, who was as playful as any mokai could get. Useless at her job, yes, but a blast to be around when the pup was looking to have some fun. Jak made the observation and brushed it off, opting instead to focus on the answer to the question he had posed.
"Castiel?" was the first unfamiliar word, or name by the sound of it, that he wanted to ask about. He then shook his head no when the strange cull posed a question of his own.
"No," the pup replied, the idea of Andi just abandoning him so foreign that it hadn't occurred to him that she could quite possibly be doing just that and he wouldn't even know it. But she couldn't be; she promised to bring him back a snack, after all. "She went with her father to get some food. They should be getting back soon enough."
Now that he thought about it though, he really wasn't all that sure, and it came through in his tone of voice. Glancing back in the direction that Andi and her dad went, he frowned. "I think..."

My human's name. Warwick answered blithely as the pup returned a similar sort of questioning tone while repeating the moniker. Falling quiet as easily as he had spoken up. This one wasn't the sort to run off at the mouth as some Mokai seemed to have a penchant for doing. Not unless he had the need to say something poignant of course.
But honestly.. how often did that ever happen?
They seemed to be trading information as the little one immediately answered the question Warwick had posed earlier, though in a manner that left him perplexed. No? But they had indeed left. I didn't mean leave forever..
The cull reassured quietly getting a sense of his nerves. I'm sure you're right.
Though leaving a vulnerable, young Mokai alone in a park didn't seem like the best idea a human had ever had, Warwick would stay until his owner returned and be sure no underhanded strangers attempted to steal him. Attempting to distract his new acquaintance with idle chit-chat in the meanwhile. What's your name? I'm Warwick.

The cull's bit of reassurance did help, if only a little. The pup felt a little less freaked out now, and he took a deep breath to calm himself a bit further. Andi and her father would be back soon enough, he was sure of it. The smile returning, Jak nodded at the other's introduction. "I'm Jak, nice to meet you," he replied, then looked in the direction that Warwick had come from to see if he could catch a glimpse of the other mokai's owner.
Nothing. He put on a sort of curious look and decided to go back to their earlier topic of Warwick's owner.
"So do you like your owner?" the pup asked, a bit curious to see if other owners treated cull as well as his owner's family did. He'd had conversations like this with the cull at their house, but he didn't often get the chance to ask other culls. He rarely ran into them for some reason, but up until now he hadn't really noticed.

Jak, huh? It was a brief name. Perhaps suitably small for such a little Mokai though the question that remained was certainly: would it fit him when he wasn't so little? For a pup he was surprisingly polite though, which spoke volumes of his humans. They must have been good people to be raising up such a fine Mokai and certainly not the sort who were likely to abandon him. It was reassuring to some degree.
Still, Warwick hoped they hurried back soon, following Jak's gaze around the park with a half-distracted nod. You too..
The question that was proposed required a bit more attentiveness, drawing the cull's attention back to the lone pup. Wick didn't have to think long about his answer, smiling quietly. Yea.. I guess I do.
Speaking of the wily blonde a familiar voice crested over a neighboring hill, lilting and melodious. Not only could his human make pretty music with his guitar, but Castiel had a voice that could tame wild beasts. "Hey Warwick, where did you run off to? I turned my back and lost you.."
Twirling a stick in one hand as he strolled up the path towards the lone bench, the musician's handsome smile brightened. Eyes falling upon the familiar, wiry shape of his Mokai. "There you are! Look I found a..."
Pausing briefly Cas leaned to one side, examining the ball of fur that was protected from view by Warwick's dark outline. "...whatcha got there, Wick?"

The pup smiled, observing the cull's reply to his question and nodding with some kind of approving nod at his reply. He didn't seem like a cull that would hate his owner, really, especially since he referred to him by name. Assuming culls were treated worse by some other two-leggers, he doubted they would be so chummy as to call their owners by their actual names. "That's good," the pup replied, ears perking at the sound of the unfamiliar voice. He tilted his head somewhat and caught sight of the blonde coming their way, though Warwick was mostly in the way.
"Is that him?" Jak asked, turning his attention back to the larger mokai in front of him.
Just then, Andi was strolling back with an ice cream cone in one hand, and a small paper bag in the other. Her father had gone off to take care of some urgent business that had come up, so he gave her a bit of money and left, which she was perfectly fine with. She didn't get to spend as much alone time with Jak anyhow. At the sight of the two strangers looming over her pup she hurried her pace just a smidge, calling out to whoever they were when she was just a few feet away.
"Who're you guys?" she asked with a curious, rather than suspicious, look on her face. She licked her vanilla-flavored treat while waiting for a reply, and when she was beside him she glanced down at Jak while waving the little baggy. "I got that treat for you, by the way," she added with a giggle, then regarded the cull. "Since you found a new friend there, you might have to share."

Yeap. That's Castiel. You don't have to worry, he won't hurt you. Warwick assured as his human reached over him to rub his palm gently over Jak's head. Plucking at the round, gold tag attached to his collar. "Another pup? Jak is it? Wonder what he's doing out here by himself."
Not that Castiel had long to wonder, straightening when the small voice of a young girl beckoned his attention. Despite the fact that his intentions had been entirely innocent the musician still couldn't help the guilty grin that formed upon his lips. Thumbing his nose. "Hey. I just came looking for Warwick."
Gazing up with large brown eyes at the little human it was the cull's first time meeting a child. He wasn't entirely sure how to react though she seemed the same as other humans, just shorter. Still, he gave his tail a slow wag to confirm that he meant no harm.
Pointing indicatively to the cull beside Jak with the stick still poised in one hand Cas added, "Found him with your pup, guess he'd taken it upon himself to keep an eye on the little guy. Probably isn't a good idea to leave your Mokai tied up like this. Someone might just come along and decide to take him home you know?"
He didn't mean to scare the kid, but it seemed like good advice. Hell only knew what a desperate trainer would stoop to in order to get their hands on a new Mokai. Castiel wouldn't put it past the less scrupulous ones to steal a little girl's pet.

Andi giggled and set the bag down on the bench, reaching a hand over and petting Warwick gently between his ears. "Warwick, huh?" she asked, acknowledging the cull's name and testing it on her tongue. It rolled off well enough, she thought, and she smiled down at the mokai. "Thanks for looking out for Jak," she said, then opened up the bag in her hand and set it on the ground. After reaching inside it for a second she pulled out a little biscuit and looked up at the blonde. "Can I give it to him?"
As she looked up at him he proceeded to explain the dangers of leaving her mokai without supervision, to which she smiled and simply shrugged. "Jak's good at getting away and he knows his way home. He'll find his way back, I'm confident enough with that much at least."
Her mokai barked upon hearing those words, a grin on his maw. Regarding Warwick again, he blinked. "It's true," the pup said with a shrug, though smiling. "That's why they started using this leash, actually..."
