A slate colored pup grumbled, irately staring on the leash that Andi had decided to buy and attach to his collar. He probably wandered off one too many times for her liking, plus he heard an argument ensue between his owner and her father regarding his behavior with regard to his knack for running off on his own. She trusted her father and start putting him on a leash when they went out for walks, jogs, errands, or just outings in general. He hated it - absolutely hated it - but there wasn't anything he could do about it. It wasn't something he could chew through; the material was kind of like his collar, except in tether form.

Sighing, the pup lay down in the alley nearby the post that Andi had tied him to while she went inside the craft shop, a building he often saw while on his little solo adventures while she was at school. He didn't want to be seen by any other mokai, stuck where he was because his owner didn't trust him to stay put. It was, quite frankly, embarrassing.

Reisx had intended on coming to scout out the settlement for her plan, but, due to the hour, she had to stay to the alley's and shadows in between buildings to keep safe. She didn't need any humans or guards seeing her, nor Imnir. Era flicking forward she came to an alley where, tilting her head, she was met with something peculiar, but all too familiar. Those he had a leash, she had had a chain. Hmm, why was one so young left...so alone?

"She came close behind him, sniffing the air, catching his scent, her memory ingraining it so she would never forget, and then she spoke.

"Run away too many times? Or your master just left you out here to fend for yourself for a while," she asked, staying to the shadows.

His fur bristled at the unfamiliar voice that had krept up from behind him. Jak's focus had been avoided the two-leggers and mokai on the streets, he hadn't thought about encountering anyone inside the alley. It was such a narrow space though, so he had assumed that no one else would be there. Slowly he turned his head and scrunched his brows together. The mokai that met his eyes was extremely unfamiliar, and there was a scent about her that didn't quite fit right.

He didn't voice any of the questions that came to mind, and instead frowned slightly at her question. "My owner decided that it wasn't safe for me to be on my own too often," he replied, not wanting to sound too much like a delinquent. She hit it right on the nose though.

"No safe?" Reisx said, laughing softly, "What, they think we big bad ferals would hurt a pup? Please-" she spoke, revealing herself just slightly from the shadows hoping that he would not alert a human to her whereabouts. "I used to be like you kid, 'cept my master wasn't so nice."

She came close to him, looked him over. His color was lighter and there were stripes on his face, and those eyes.

Could he be...one of Ai's too?

"I'm sorry if I scared you, just understand, the humans wouldn't like knowing I'm here...since I got away."

Feral? The pup tilted his head at the unfamiliar term. Maybe it was another subspecies similar to culls? While he pieced that little puzzle together in his mind, he shook no to her question. "More like she doesn't want me getting squashed by a rerehi that isn't watching its step," he replied with a smirk. She came out from the shadows just a bit so he could see her better; she didn't look familiar at all, but judging from her size alone he could tell she was likely a fighter and scrapped the cull theory from earlier.

"You didn't scare me," the pup said perhapds a bit too defensively; the claim wasn't entirely true, after all. She caught him...off guard...is all. "You just uh.. surprised me," Jak said, then, after repeating the end of her sentence in his head a couple of times, added, "and what do you mean by 'got away'?"

It was kind of suspicious, but he was more curious than anything else. The idea of the two-leggers not liking the fact that he "got away" kind of piqued his interest and scared him at the same time. Depending on her answer, there was a chance he'd actually start to worry about wandering off on his own...

Reisx watched him and smiled, she wanted to wink at him, perhaps tease him a little, but she didn't need him, when young, already geting a bad idea about ferals. She herself wasn't bad, least, she didn't consider herself so. "It's good to be careful until you are old enough, strong enough, but you'll get there, I can tell," she said with a smile. "I sense a strength in you, perhaps from, your mother, what's her name?" she was curious, the stripes on his cheeks, they were almost tell-tale signs.

She bit her lip, trying to think of how to explain to a pup. "All you need to know if that some that are raised here, or brought here from beyond the walls, aren't meant to be here, so, we try to go, where we can be happy. You wouldn't want to be somewhere you were unhappy, would you?" she asked.

He was so small, but he would grow so strong. She smiled at hte thought, and hoped that he would be noble and have a respect unlike the male fighter she despised.

"I'm Reisx, what's your name?"

He felt as though he'd heard this lecture before, but it seemed a bit more serious coming from an older, more experienced mokai rather than Andi, his young and fairly inexperienced owner. The pup nodded and took her words to heart; she probably knew better than both he and Andi put together. Jak puffed up with a sense of pride at her comment at the thought of inheriting his mother's strength; she was, after all, undefeated in the ring thus far. It didn't hit him until after she asked for his mother's name that this feral could possibly be an acquaintance of her's.

His ears perked and he stood, tail wagging slowly, at the thought. "Ai," the pup answered with a wide smile. "Why, do you know her?"

As she went on to try and explain just what she meant by 'got away', he listened intently and could only nod, then shake his head 'no' at her question. No, he wouldn't want to be somewhere where he was unhappy. Thankfully, with Andi, he was anything but. Sure, they sometimes didn't get along, but he was happy and content with where he currently was. There wasn't much else he could say on the subject though, and he was happy that she moved on to introduce herself shortly after answering his question.

"I'm Jak," he said in response to her introduction, deciding that she wasn't all that bad, especially if she knew his mom.

Reisx smiled at the mention of his mother's name, and she nodded and leaned back comfortably. "I do, your mother is a great friend of mine," she smiled, relishing in the fact she had spoken it aloud. Yes, Ai was one of her greatest friends, and she had a bond with the gray striped female like none she could remember, a bond of true friendship that could withstand troubles and time, it seemed.

"She's a great fighter, and mokai, you'd do well to listen to her if she gives you advice, all right?" she said, trying not to lecture too much but Jak was still so young.

Jak, she liked that name.

"It's nice to meet you, officially, Jak."

His ears perked at the words "great friend", and his tail's wagging picked up a bit of speed as he smiled at the older mokai. "You're friends with momma?" he asked, shedding the appearance of a young mokai in search for his freedom from the leash and reverting back to being exactly what he was - a puppy. Even when he grew up, he had a feeling he'd never call his mother by any other name but "momma", and he was perfectly fine with that. She always would be, after all.

Reisx's words about his mother had the pup nodding his head rather enthusiastically, happy to see that there were indeed other mokai who thought the same about his mother. "If I grow up to be a fighter I wanna be exactly like her!" Jak smiled wide at that, again puffing up proudly. "Undefeated in the ring; a champion."

He calmed down only enough to regard her last comment with an energetic nod. "Same here! Hey.. if you're a friend of momma's, could you be my friend too?"

Reisx smiled and laughed softly and ruffled the fur atop Jak's head with her muzzle as he puffed up proudly. "I'm sure if you work hard, and train, you'll be just like your mother, but your mother is not only very strong in the ring, but smart, it is why she is always able to be safe while in the ring, so take that to heart, understand?" There were so many fighters in the settlement, and now, so many little ones. Reisx felt, although she was an outsider, they needed to know to not only be strong, but smart, to be careful.

"Always do your best, but always enjoy it Jak, if you lose the fire of enjoyment in fighting, then you know something is wrong, it is what happened to me," she said with a flick of her ears.

At his question, she smiled and nodded, "of course, you are my friend, Jak, from now on."

The young pup laughed lightly as she ruffled his fur, pushing up slightly to try and get her to stop. Her words were certainly reassuring, and he was happy to hear them. Honestly, there was no way to be sure what he'd grow up to be, but it was highly likely that he would grow up to be a fighter considering both of his parents were fighters themselves. He was banking on that; Andi wouldn't be too pleased if he grew up to be a pet though. Or worse.. a cull. Jak shuddered at the thought, deciding to just focus on his current company now to keep his thoughts pleasant.

"Got it," he replied, a determined look crossing his features. Definitely, he would remember that. His mother would probably say the same thing.

Her reply to his question made his smile wide. Another friend, and likely a strong fighter (or at least, a former one), on his side. "Yes!" he exclaimed, tail wagging. It was just then that he hear a small bell go ding-a-ling-a-ling in the background, followed by Andi's voice calling his name.

"Jak?" he heard her say, then soft footfalls started heading toward the two of them. "Jak, where are you?"

Reisx laughed softly at Jak's excited expression, and her tail wagged as well. She watched him for a few seconds, just watching the young mokai bask in the current glory of what is, what would be, and she felt content. At the noise, and the call, Reisx's eyes lifted, and then fell onto Jak again. "I need to go," she said, "your owner, he won't like that I'm here with you," she raised a paw and touched her neck, "no collar, remember?" she said simply.

"Remember what I said, and when I visit again, I want to see what you've learned, all right?" she said with a wink.

"Till then Jak, try to behave," she said sticking her tongue out, smiling at him jokingly, "I'll see you," and she went back into the alley further to watch his owner approach.

The girl seemed to appreciate Jak, and Reisx was glad to have seen that, that way, she knew Jak was safe, and for now, would be happy.

Right now, that was all that mattered.

Jak could only nod as Reisx bid him a rushed goodbye, a sad, puppy-look in his eyes as he watched her retreating figure. Soon she was out of sight and in the shadows once again, so he turned around and greeted Andi with a bark. The 11 year-old smiled and knelt down, giving him a good pat on the head.

"Good boy, you stayed put and stayed quiet," she said, rubbing his chin. Jak relished the feeling and lifted his head up a bit, a smile on his maw. "Let's go home then? I know you don't like this leash thing, so we'll take it off when we get home."

Jak's tail wagged at that, and he gave a happy bark at her idea. He glanced once more inside the alley for any signs of his new friend, but when he couldn't discern her dark figure from the shadows he simply offered a small smile before turning and following after Andi.
