Zavis was wandering through the trees, night was falling and he was starting to think it might be a good idea to find shelter for the night. His hooves too him to the edge of the treeline where he watched the sun set behind distant mountains. He'd come to this forest only recently, using the cover of dark just days before to reach it from his last little stand of trees. He fel safe within the cover of the canopy and the closeness of the trunks. His little familiar, Kali, was usually tucked up under one of Zavis' wings but had emerged to stand between Zavis' ears, clinging to his forelock as they watched the sun setting. Zavis closed his eyes for a moment and took a deep breath, surely nothing could go wrong on such a perfect ending to the night.
Bane had left her father to his work, breathing life and good stories into the bark of the oaks that lay around them. She only came once in awhile to see how the old angeni had been doing. Her ears twisted as she looked up to see the sunsetting. Taking it in; her breath lifted as she stepped into a small field to see it more clearly. Her eyes begining to light up the area around her; only slightly of course. It just looked like a very good blue glowstick. 'The sunset makes me think of you at times, Bane.' Her father once told her. A darkness sweeping in her red fur always made her father think of nighttime creeping up on the last bit of daylight; her eyes. The red a contrast between the two. With those thoughts a warmth filled the mares' body and she shifted her blonde hair over her shoulder for only a moment. A creeping feeling beginning to descend up her back under it's leather armour.
In the field ahead, unnoticed by Zavis at first, emerged the mare. It wasn't until Zavis' Peripheral vision caught sight of a faint blue glow, that he noticed the mare. He backed slowly into the trees, his dark pelt hopefully blending in before the mare saw him. Kali scurried down Zavis' neck and hid under a wing. Zavis never took his eye off the mare who seemed to be enjoying the sunset but the glowing eyes put Zavis on edge, any Soquili that he didn't know did anyway though. He was doing well at keeping quiet for saying he was walking backwards, until a twig snapped under his hoof. He froze into the shadows, his muscles tense, waiting for.....well he didn't know, he just waited.
Bane lifted her head and moved a little to see what had startled the branch. Only faintly did she have empathy for that branch. She felt his feelings though; she knew someone else was out there. All she could feel was fear. Something no other had felt for Bane. She was a bulky, and stronger mare.. And her eyes were awkward to some. But the signs of Angeni where always something that soothed other Soquili. Had she finally found the one Soquili who didn't know the signs of peace. She lifted her head a little and her wings quiverred. She had never met someone afraid of her. Testing out the slight empathy she took a hoof forward. However this time she felt something else. Her head turning to the sensation of evil. Then back to the darkness. "Are you afraid of me? Or of them?" She asked somewhat to herself. But loud enough that Zavis would possibly get what she said. Forgetting most normal-Soquili didn't feel empathic chains.
Zavis didn't move a muscle.. well maybe a few, but none that would draw attention... when the mare turned her gaze towards the darkened trees where he was standing, she couldn't see him surely? With those eyes Zavis didn't know and his body quivered all the while he tried to control it. He saw the wings quiver by her side and he wondered if she too was nervous. Then she turned her head away and Zavis blew out a sigh of relief....until that head turned towards his shadows again. When she spoke, it was quiet but his heightened senses picked it up clearly. Afraid of.....them? .. was something out there where she'd looked away from him. He wanted to scent the air but here, in the trees, the earthy scents filled his nose. He took a deep breath and slowly moved forwards, very carefully, ready to run if he needed to. He didn't answer the mare, but the fact he was moving forwards was good enough for him. usually he would turn away and vanish into the growing night in the trees
She could feel his movements and then she blinked her blues and breathed in again. "You're afraid of me." She said softly moreso to herself again. When he trotted towards her she saw bits of him and her eyes widened. A stallion with wings? Why did he stay if he was afraid. She was curious, her head tilted and then she felt it more. "We should both head out there's someone here with us." She insisted and looked unsteadily behind her and around her again. She wasn't afraid, but she didn't like to have another's life in her.. hooves. Her firey form beginning to count with her back hooves. Cantering a little. She wanted to get away from the hidden darkness behind her.
Zavis trembled, he'd gotten about as close as he dared, just out of the trees, if he moved a few feet backwards his rump would be among them again but for now he stood where he was, resiting every urge of his body to flee, Somewhere deep down he sensed that this mare didn't mean any harm but his fear was so great it overrode that often, unless it was foals. "Someone....else?" he said aloud without meaning to and peered out into the gathering gloom. Then the mare began cantering and Zavis visibly flinched and backed up until his whole body was in the trees, he felt sure he could lose her in them if he had to but at the same time he was curious. Kali laughed and squeaked something un-inteligable from beneath Zavis' wing.
She could sense it now, without the need for the empathy chain that grew. Now she swung her body to look behind her. Her wings parting from her backside and moving upwards. "Yes.. Someone else." She said louder now and her eyes looked around. She saw him now, in a gallop running for some reason. Her heart began to race in her chest. "Oh for the love of Silvanus.." She whispered. "Go on.. Or he'll see you." Her head raised as she looked to the Kalona bounding in the forests.
Zavis bolted, his couldn't take it any longer, her tone was gentle but between the fear of the unknown and the sudden stench of kalona in the ari, Zavis was panicked, he ran blindly, branches and saplings whipping at his face as he did so, making much more noise than he ever had before. He didn't know that the scent was Kalona, but he did know it was evil, it was darkness and he had to get away or something bad was going to happen. He swung this way and that, zig-zagging in the trees, doubling back several times in a loop before charging forwards again. "run run run run run..... no no no no not again" he gasped as he rannot seeing her, forgetting almsot everything in his blind rush to get away from what was scaring him.
As he bolted she moved behind him blindly for a moment, but she did not let fear trap herself. She was only running because her father told her to stay away from the curse-wielding demons that the Kalonas were. She could hear the male ahead of her begin to ramble and her head swung behind her to see if the Kalona was on its heels. When she turned to the stallion she whinnied. Ahead there was a cave to just gain some sort of shelter. However if he was continuing on to it the way he was she was afraid that some sort of rock enclosure would occur.
Zavis could hear nothing except the beating of his hooves and heart, he failed to hear Kali screaming as the mouse lost his grip on the feathers of his wing. He didn't notice the mouse fall, the weight had been negligable in the first place. It wasn't until the mare whinnied that he was pulled out of his totaly blind panic but he couldn't stop. his hooves skidded on rock as he reached the cave within a large pile of stone and rocks. He hit the inner wall with a thud and he screamed, his panicked mind thinking he'd crashed into a demon of his mind. His legs flailed as he tried to get up, hooves crashing against loose rock.
Bane moved into the cave swiftly and skidded to a stop. Watching as the wall crashed down onto the entrance. Her eyes emitting the only light now within the dark cave. She shuddered and looked around. Huffing, she tried to slowdown her breath. Looking around at the entrance, trying to see for any exits out of the cave. But the stallion caught her attention. Getting up and slowly moving to him. "Calm down he won't hurt you here.." She softly spoke to him. But kept her distance; though.. There was not enough to keep in the cave.
Zavis thrashed, he heard the rockfall and panicked even more, now he was enclosed.. tight, dark space.... he scrambled to his feet and crashed his body against the rocks that blocked the entrance. "out out out" he gasped, his ears flat against his head "nononono .... i can't be trapped... Kali and you see a ......KALI?!... KALI!!!" he screamed, the mouse was nowhere.... his only friend ... was out there where the evil was... he scrambled at the rock wall even more, yelling his friend's name, his hooves striking rock, shoulder slamming until it hurt too much to keep going. He hadn't even noticed the mare until she spoke, his breath comoing in ragged sobs by now "i.....i left him ... he's....Kali..." he breathed, letting his body slide so he was crumpled on the stone flooring "i left him behind....."
She tilted her head and then moved to the entrance where she was again. "Who's Kali?" She asked him calmly. Moving to nose the wall for a moment. "I don't remember seeing anything else.." She then blinked and lifted her head. "There was someone with you. He laughed." She remembered the third empathic feeling. She moved and looked for an entrance. "I'll get him for you.. Just relax. Outside of the dark." She echoed to him as she descended into the cave further. Her eyes glancing around. It was there; where she could see a small entrance. Something she could get through but they would have to wait till morning for the large stallion. She still smelt the Kalona though.. She could still feel him around and about. Knowing that fear was on the wind.
Zavis looked up, his fear forgotten in his guilt for leavng behind his mouse friend who had been with him since he had woken up without his memories. "He....he's a mouse... my ...my friend..." he said, tears tracking down his face at the shame and guilt that he had abandoned Kali in his flight from the evil. Relaxing wasn't an option, his blood pulsed in his ears, rushing though his veins and making him see shadows darting in the dark that weren't really there. He didn't like the tight enclosed space of the rocks and he longed for the familiarity of the trees but he could see no way of getting out. He didn't notice the entrance that the mare had, "I left him" he said once more, his tone folorn and almost childlike in it's guilt.
She heard him and sighed, mouse. She nodded to herself and she got out of the cave, after a few scrapings and almost-trippings. As she got out she could smell the Kalona on the air. Her eyes scanning around for a mouse she called out for him even with the cursed demonic being close to her. "Kali?" She looked through the bushes of their escape-route. Seeing their hoove prints in the frosting-night ground. "Kali! Your friend is sorry would you please come out?" But with each call out, she beaconed him. The Kalona was not far. His eyes blood red as they scanned the Angeni-cross. Evil roaming inside.
Zavis watched as the glow from the mare's eyes vanished, he sighed and laid his head out onto the flooring of the cave, lost in tormenting himself with scenarios of horror for his friend Kali. Kali on the other hand, was scurrying along the scent trail of the stallion that he'd become friends with, "stupid Zavis, i told him i was falling" he grumped, he didn't mean it, he loved the big lug and knew his fear, Kali wasn't that afraid, those meat eating Soquili didn't usually bother him much, being so small but the scent of this one was everywhere, it was also frustrated by the looks of the torn up ground and slashed trees. his ears caught an unfamiliar voice calling his name and he ran over, calling her, telling her to hush.
When his little message crept up to her it was to late and she moved towards Kali's voice. When she got near him she heard wings. Her head raised and her eyes opened wide. The Kalona came down and pumelled her to the ground with its ram-horns. With a screeched-whinny. With that she slammed against the Kalona and went after the demonic beast with her teeth. Though at most times, the smallest things like gouging out someone's fur with teeth didn't do much. But for some reasons unknown to the mare; the Kalona stallion fled. Maybe his target truthfully was Zavis and not her. Feeding off his fear would have done the beast some good probably. When it left she clammered back up onto her limbs and her left wing yelped in pain at her. Well, not really. But if it had vocal chords it'd tell her 'ouch!' her thigh had began to bleed a good steady flow, promising a close sometime. Though her left wing had been dealt a good amount of pain. No breakings, but a possible sprain in the joint and it had a scrape along the upper-muscle. With a wince through the pain she glanced for Kali. "We.. Should get back to your friend. He might not be doing so well without you.."
Kali jumped back as the big kalond rushed at the mare, instead of running Kali was furious, how DARE the big dumb creature attck the mare that had come to fetch him. As she fought him Kali clambered up his leg, clinging on tightly at times as the two fought. As he'd been climbing up one of the Kalona's rear legs the nearest soft tissue Kali had to attack was one of the most vulnerable, Kali laughed and bit down, causing the Kalona to leave the mare be and try and shake the Mouse that had it's sharp teeth in his most tender parts. Once the kalona was well on it's way Kali let go and plopped to the leafy ground safely. He ran back to the mare, panting and limping a little but with a big grin on his face. "Yepyep, he's can't do a thing without me ya know" he squeaked, scurrying up her leg and settling himself on her back carefully. Zavis, in the cave was shivering, it was cold but he was sweating, he was hyperventilating and he felt like the walls of the cave were closing in on him. He panted as his limbs began to get sore from laying down and the trembling. "Kali... i'm....i'm sorry"
When she saw him plop down she smiled down to him. Even with the pain tinging her body she would smile to the mouse. They always played as amusing friends in the forests when she was young. She whinnied at him softly and then moved to the cave. "I gathered.. He was much more calm when you where around." She answered. As she moved in she let her body settle on its knees in a buckle. Pain shaking her body now as the adrenaline dropped. Watching Zavis calmly she nosed Kali off her back softly. "You should go to him then dear." She spoke kindly to the mouse.

Zavis whimpered, he didn't notice when bane returned with Kali until the little mouse crept up to him after giving Bane a thankyou nuzzle, "Zavis, it's me, i'm here" he said quietly, pawing at Zavi's nose as the stallion breathed harshly. He leapt up between Zavis' eats and groomed at his forelock, the usual thing he did to soothe Zavis but the stallion was too far gone in his panic, he trembled and heaved, not really seeing what was around him, his nightmares running through his mind, of abandoning Kali, losing the only friend he had. His thrashing had stopped completely though the feeling of the cave walls coming in on him didn't fade.
Bane laid there her vision blurrying in the pain that was in her wing. But she shook her head to keep it out. When the mouse nuzzled her she snuffed at him fondly and smiled weakly. Looking to the dark stallion she opened her eyes a little more for him. Lighting up whatever she could with her eyes. But every so often she'd falter from the pain. "I'm sorry if I was gone to long.." She'd only whisper to him. Trying to keep her own pain inside. She glanced at the wall. She tried to steady herself a little and huffed. Bane's mind tried to distract her from anything trying to kick in her adrenaline a little if she only could. "My name is Bane.. By the way." She tried to tell Zavis. Trying to speak to calm him down.
Zavis blinked slowly as Kali groomed him, not quite sure where the glow was coming from until Bane spoke to him. He was't entirely fully aware but with Kali's soothing grooming his panic was fading, his breathing growing less harsh, his frantic shuddering calming til it was little more than cold shiver. "K....Kali?... you're ok?" he said hoarsely, Finally becoming properly aware of the mare.
Kali was glad Zavis had calmed down but now he was cncerned about the mare that had helped them and rescued him "Hey.. lady.. i mean Bane... lady you should rest too, cause it doesn't look like we're going anywhere soon" he said matter of factly to her, bringing the mare's condition to Zavis' attention. The stallion got up and stretched his cramped legs painfully still nervous and jumpy but not so intensely panicked as he was. "Th...Thank you for saving Zavis... he's right... you.. you...should rest.. I'm sorry you got hurt... " his tone unsure, and he kept a little away from the mare, torn between his general nervousness and wanting to make sure that the mare was alright.
Watching the stallion she could feel his body beginning to finally calm down, though she could kind of feel the channeling of cramped pain coming from him. Still a frantic uncomfortable fear striking through him. It bothered her just a little. Bane was into helping, not so much into sitting there and not doing anything about saddness or fear. She was someone to protect those types.
When Kali called out for her she looked up for a moment and then looked to Zavis. She was trying to keep her head on her shoulders about somethings. When Zavis spoke to her she softened up a little. Looking at her wing steadily while he talked. Trying not to intimidate him. "You're welcome.. Zavis?" She said his name curiously like as if asking if she got the pronounciation correct. "Don't be sorry I'd do it for anyone." She admitted to him and glanced up. "I'm just happy you're not hurt. Much." She glanced at his body as if she could feel the bruises. Wincing at a twinge at her wing.
Zavis flinched away just the smallest bit when she shifted, he didn't mean to, he just wasn't used to strangers and especially not used to strangers being in close proximity in a confined space. "Kali..Kali says you're hurt, you should listen to him ... and rest" he stammered, using one of the cold walls as a support for himself. He hated the thought that the mare had gotten injured because he was such a coward.... he hadn't even gone back out to save Kali ... He felt like the lowest peice of horse flesh at the moment for getting them all into this situation but at least the mare seemed to be able to get in and out.
Watched him slunk against the wall calmly. She looked at her wing and then up to him. "Don't feel bad about it." She answered out of the blue. Bane wasn't the sort to be so random or out loud with her empathic bonds to everything. But she could feel his being so close to Zavis and Kali. She could feel his mood go down and down. "Please.. Feeling bad about this will only make it worse. I would get injured a hundred times to help someone in need. Don't look down at yourself for this. Mistakes happen." She inquired to him. Her blue eyes shifted to the wall lightly. "I will get you out of here and into the protection of the trees again." She said the words like Silvanus would.
Zavis couldn't help it, he'd failed Kali, he'd risked his best friend's like because he'd been too blindingly terrified to even know he'd gone until he'd stopped running, if he hadn't crashed into the cave there was no telling how far he'd have run.
"It was my fault i left Kali, no matter how you feel about getting hurt miss Bane" he said to her with a heaving sigh. "You...you should rest first, and i'm...very tired" he enforced this opinion by laying down again, his cramping muscles and the bruises throbbing. he had to rest even if he hadn't done any fighting.
Watching him she nodded. Good words, she couldn't complain. As the night pressured on she tried her hardest to try and sleep. Though she felt the best when she could hear the stallion's breathing during his slumber. While he slept she could feel his mind soothe even if there were spikes of his shaken nature still in it. It lulled her to sleep at times. Though she had lost a good amount of blood. She was easier at healing, it had clotted up loosely in the morning. Or so she thought it was morning, when she saw the light bleed in from the small entrance she snuck through.
When she woke up she opened her eyes slowly. A yawn coming to her snout, shaking her head a little. Blinking slowly she'd look to check on Zavis and Kali.
Zavis slept deeply despite the nihgtmareish memories recurring while he was out cold. He twitched from time to time and despite the cold, which caused him to curl into himself as much as he could, he slept fairly well, better than he had in a long time. Usually he had ENOUGH but never a lot of sleep. Kali on the other hand, mouselike, slept in snatches, keeping an eye on both his best friend and the mare that watched. He was already awake and looking for insect life for breakfast when he noticed her eyes opening, the blue light spilling into the dark of the cave that wasn't as dark as before due to the grey sunlight coming through the gap. "Mornin" he said to her, chirplily "I think he's gonna be out for a while still... he usually sleeps A LOT when he's had a scare like that"
She checked her wing lightly for a moment, then she grogilly nodded towards Kali, getting up even if it was a cramped position and looking at the entrance way. "Good morning." She said partially pleasently towards him. Moving to see if she could actually get them out. Moving towards the entrance way she tilted her head left to right in curiousity. Could she actually bust out of here with a bloodied wing and a big stallion that was Zavis? Looking to Kali after a moment she smirked. "I wish I could sleep like that.. Never have slept really well in my life." With all the bonds she can feel floating about..
Kali looked concerned "Lady... uh Bane, wait til the big lug is up ok? .. or you're gonna hurt yourself bad" he told her sternly "If you can wake him, he's not having a nightmare right now she he'd be ok to wake up" he told her, cocking his head to the side "yeah ... he's nervy, but if he's in a tree big enough he can sleep... maybe you should try that ... sleeing in a tree... some have big hollows" he said as he scurried about trying to catch a large moth.
Looking at Kali when he inquired and nodded lightly. Moving groggily and laying down near Zavis again. Before waking up she kind of squinted to his last statement. "My father would have my head.. if I so happened to nick a tree in the wrong place. They have feelings you know." Now she let it out. She sounded a little cooky until she shook her head a little. "Uhm.. He's the Angeni of Forests." Not that it made anything better. "But maybe it's worth a try." She insisted. Then she looked down at Zavis' sleeping body and huffed a little. "Hey there.. Zavis? It's.. time to wake up. The sun's up.."
Kali's eyes bulged when the mare told him that her father was an Angeni, not only that but the Angeni of the Forests "Just be care not to hurt it then, but they make shelter for all creatures, would he begrudge animals making nests in them... that.. would die without the trees. I'm sure the trees wouldn't want something to die because it wasn't allowed to nest in it" he said with a smile "best not tell the big guy though" he laughed as he leaped up and grabbed the moth, crunching down on it as she woke Zavis.
Zavis was slow to wake, unused to a voice other than Kali's he was confused as he woke "Kali... did you get a girlfriend" he mumbled as he got to his feet, shaking his body out then hissing in pain as the bruises flared, then he remembered "Oh.. Miss Bane i'm sorry" he said with a shiver, at the coldness in the cave. "Are.. you alright?" he said, noting for the first time her bloodied pelt and the wing held awkwardly and painfully it seemed. The meager light through the gap giving just enough for him to see the basic layout of the cave and he didn't like it one bit.
As Kali caught the moth a twinge of ouch went through her and she closed an eye a little bit. Though her eyes scanned towards Zavis. She had heard Kali talking to her and heard him say not to tell Zavis about her father. But how could she not really? But in due time she guessed. Looking up at him as he towered over her she blinked. Feeling a little bit of pain go through her links she smirked a little. So he had bruised himself. But she did chuckle at his retort to Kali having a girlfriend. It was the most amusing and nicest thing Zavis had said to her yet. Though it was silly in some ways. "Don't apologize. I'm a little big though I suppose." She kidded back to him. When he inquired if she was alright she looked down at her wing. "Yes I'm fine. I can't fly, but it's not broken. Just badly wounded." She admitted to him. "Moving it would make the clot open.."
