Teal eyes were closed, lids screwed tight, face scrunched in utter concentration. Actually it looked more like he needed to go to the bathroom really bad but who's to say that wasn't what was happening? Considering this was Before of all people. But no, the trainee took a deep breath, raised his arms stiffly, and gloved hands pushed open the doors that leads to one of the facilities on the Island that Before would never have fond memories of.
THE GYM. Before did not want to be here. He really, really, really did not want to be back here. Not with the bloodstains that would never come out (Lady MacB, please as to be getting out) and all the screams and visions of violent chaos that flashes in his mind. M-Maybe this was a bad idea. He figures since he'd only taken a few steps into the Gym, he had enough time to run right out and face his demons some other time. Like twenty years from now?
Unfortunately, he realized he wasn't alone in the Gym. "EEP!" he squeaked.

A mud-covered Candace wandered into the gym, trailed closely with a floating blue eye. It had desummoned after her last spar and followed her to the gym now, flashing and gleaming with what Candace assumed was delight. Circe had been a good girl, and she would continue to be a good girl. She was always a good girl.
She had never been in the gym before, nor had she experienced whatever it was that filled it with these lovely bloodstains. This hadn't been the room she had died in, right? Nah. Couldn't be. It was too large. She was very curious though! Why was it like this?
A sudden fear-filled squeak had her turning to see who was around, eyes narrowing when she realized her new company was Before. Ugh. The pansy. "Hello, Before. Fancy seeing you here." Surprising, really. The gym didn't seem his scene. You know what did? A field of prissy flowers and friendly forest creatures. A Disney movie seemed more Before's speed.

Before broke into a cold sweat at the sight of Candace, the corner of his mouth twitching upwards into an anxiety-filled smile. He reeeeally shouldn't be surprised to find her here of all people. He'd been keeping his distance from her the moment he learned she'd been a Pink-E and did not want to risk incurring her wrath. Even more so when he saw her Summoned Weapon during the training with Aria. Oh God, she's the one with the booterangs, please let her let me walk out... he mentally prayed.
"H-hi there, Candace. U-um, you gonna be using the Gym? W-was just about to head out myself so-" he stammered, boots shuffling quickly towards the exit.

"Eh, I was looking for something to do. Candace shrugged, slowly tilting her head to one side and taking a couple steps closer to Before. He looked nervous; he was sweating, his smile was forced, and he looked ready to run at any second. She eyed him like a predator would watch its prey, excited and ready to pounce. She wanted to pounce, oh yes she did. She was so ready. She'd torn Jordan down..it was Before's turn. She had decided.
Ah! No! He was leaving! Candace's eyes widened and she took a few quick steps closer to the man, placing a gentle hand on his chest and pouting her lips. "Ohhhhhh, nonono. Stay, Before." She crooned, leaning in close. "I can share a gym. It's okay. You should stay and play with Circe and I. She needs exercise, you see." Candace purred as she leaned in close, a lazy smile on her face. "And you'd be very helpful, eh?" Suddenly her eyes narrowed and she frowned, pushing away from the other trainee and taking a few steps away. She turned her back to Before and reached for Circe, an action that would have had less of a cool effect if Circe had not summoned herself and allowed Candace to grab her, holding the weapon close and petting it.
"Or maybe not. Maybe you're not man enough for a decent fight." She said almost calmly, suddenly turning on her heel toward Before and extending an arm with the scythe pointed out, bladed end pointed toward Before. "Prove me wrong." Candace challenged, eyes wide and mouth set in a wide smirk.

Everything about Candace, from her body language to her expression to her tone of voice, was either sending up ten million red flags or ringing ten million alarm bells in Before's mind. He didn't need to be able to read minds to know that the only time a pretty girls ever spoke to him like that or touched him in that way was because she wanted him to perform a task that was either: Painful, Humiliating, Emasculating, or a combination of all three.
Yeah, he'd been a sucker for a pretty face one time too many and maybe that's why he was more drawn to the badass, tough-as-nails, I-don't-need-s**t-from-you types. It was easier to know where he stood with them.
"Uh, play with you and-?" he blinked, teal eyes darting down towards Candace's shoes. Her footwear was still just footwear (but booterangs were tricky like that) so he probably had enough time to make a dash for the do-wait a second... "Isn't Circe Boss-Dude-Caelius's partner? Or does yours have the same name?" he stared in confusion, one hand scratching the back of his head, the other absently cupping over the bottlecap-brooch pinned to his coat. Clearly, the floating eye was not his priority.
Oddly enough, the thought of fighting the shoes seemed more scarring to Before. His logic was not normal, don't bother understanding it, k? /)>.>/)
He leaned back and away from Candace, "Y-you sure you want me? I-I mean, I know I play well with others but uh, don't reeeeeally think I'm up your alley..." :<<<<<

Candace chuckled. "She is. Caelius asked me to take Circe for a walk. She's been quite delightful so far. My weapon is Atropos, but she's taking a little break right now." That was certainly one way to put it. Truth be told Candace had stopped hearing Atropos' constant growling and snarling. She couldn't hear anything at all except the hum that Circe seemed to give off.
At Before's protest Candace rolled her eyes. "Truuuust meeeeee." The annoyed look was gone now, grinning as she gave Circe a playful little twirl. "You need this."
It became clear Candace wasn't taking no for an answer when she suddenly lashed out, spinning on the ball of her foot and swinging Circe at him before he'd even summoned his weapon. Good going, Candace.

No warning, no signal, he wasn't surprised. There was a reason Before's hand was poised over the unsummoned Vanna. While they were both trainees who were supposed to work together, Before did not trust Candace. No, he had not heard how she died during the masked-training. No, he had not heard how she generally treated the people she spent time with.
His distrust stemmed from the simple fact that she was prolonging her syllables. He'd seen enough tv shows and movies to know whenever someone prolonged their syllables when asking to be trusted you do the exact opposite. And so, when the scythe was swung at him, Before managed to summon his partner in time.
The bottlecap-brooch enlarged into a wheel in his arms as he instinctively pulled her to block. Unfortunately, Circe was stronger than past opponents, and he didn't have the time nor chance to properly gauge the reach of that wicked blade. He felt his arms quake from the impact of Vanna striking Circe's handle, then quickly followed by sharp, acute pain as the scythe plunged into his side.
"L-lemme guess: y-you don't play well with others?"
As he stumbled back to put distance between them, Before figures he ought to be angry, furious, <******** pissed at being unwillingly dragged into a fight. But he wasn't. Because 1.) he was used to getting waled on. B.) This was probably his fault one way or another and thus deserved it. And Third.) He was in the Gym.
Clearly, this was the Trainee's equivalent of the elephant's grave yard. Before really didn't want a serious fight against a fellow Trainee in the Gym QAQ
Vanna, on the other hand, was under no such impression. The weapon was enraged on her partner's behalf and was roaring orders at him to strike back. She was yelling how Before had no time to be reluctant when up against Candace Is she too good for her real partner? the devil shield snarled hatefully. She egged Before on, stressing the point that no matter how much he didn't want to fight, Candace wasn't going to stop attacking if he yelled "I Quit!" or "I'm not playing this game ;^;"
As a compromise, Before developed an escape plan. In a desperate attempt to get the dark-haired trainee to back off, Before put his full weight into a wild swing. One he fully expected her to avoid with ease. Except he felt the jarring vibrations of Vanna slamming into someone. O.O?!!?! O-oh s**t... DDDDD8 "Y-you were supposed to step outta the way..."

There was a warning! There totally was! His warning had been 'you need this'. How much clearer could she get? God. Seriously, Before. Get with the program. He finally summoned his weapon though and she flashed him a wicked smile, shrugging at his question as she jumped back away from the other trainee. "Funny. The other kids usually wanted to be paired with me for things." Probably because she knew she would do all the work because she felt they were too stupid and lazy to do anything. But other than that? Eh. She didn't bother playing with others.
He wasn't quite reacting how she expected him to. He wasn't crying, he wasn't begging her to stop, he wasn't dying instantly. This wasn't quite progress but it had to be something. She lunged to strike again, swinging the scythe with as much power as she could until she was knocked away by the slam of his wheel against her side. She cried out in pain and surprise, stumbling and tripping away from him until she was on the ground.
Was it over already?
Apparently not. Candace growled, using the scythe's handle to pull herself standing again and glaring at Before with narrowed eyes. "Are you ******** kidding me? Before. This. Is. A fight. Don't <******** apologize for hitting me. This is exactly the problem." She picked up the scythe again. "When someone asks you to fight, you don't apologize for hitting them. It's what they want." Apparently she felt the need to give an example, swinging the scythe at him again.
See how she didn't apologize?

"A-ah, s-sorry about that then," He grimaced as she berated him for apologizing for hitting her. He was strategically inching his way towards the Gym's exit while making he didn't turn his back on her. Unfortunately, he should have made a dash for it because here she was again!!! DDDDDD8
The blade sliced at him, this time catching his arm and he let out a yelp. Imagine a puppy getting its tail stomped on. He sounded like that only less adorable. "A fight? More like bullying!" he snarled, clutching at his bleeding arm. "Thank God we're not in the same division!" >8[ Oh Before, you're just wasting your breath.
He couldn't wield Vanna effectively with this wound, instead trying to put distance between them again.

"Oh my god Before. Stop apologizing for everything. It's not cute." Candace growled.
Ugh! Bullying? Seriously?! Did he grow up in some fairytale storybook where everything was friendship and magic? Ugh. He needed a breath of reality, it seemed. "What does being in the same division have to do with anything?" Candace asked, genuinely curious even if the question was punctuated with the swing of the scythe. The blade glanced the edge of his wheel and bounced off harmlessly. She frowned. Damnit!

Before fixed an angry scowl at her, "Yeah, duh, wasn't meant to be cute. It's called manners," he snapped, holding Vanna in front of him like a make-shift shield. "Y'know? Like asking people about things first, before borrowing or taking or using or ATTACKING THEM FROM OUT OF ******** NOWHERE!"
Ducking behind his wheel, Before looked like he was cowering when in fact... yeah he was. "Of course you wouldn't get it. People like you never get it."

Candace twirled the scythe like a large baton. "Before, this has nothing to do with manners. And I didn't attack you out of nowhere. If I had attacked you from nowhere I wouldn't have spoken to you about this beforehand."
Finally he said something that made her eyebrow twitched. People...like you? Candace frowned deeply and swung the scythe at the boy. "And just what the hell does that mean?"

This is the part where Before decided to simply shut his mouth and let Candace walk all over him. Path of least resistance and all... He grunted again at the blow, his wound worsening. Teal eyes remained open, trying to search for an opening. Any opening for him to get away from Candace.

He wasn't fighting back. He wasn't even defending himself. All he was doing was just letting her strike at him over and over and over. Candace growled and stopped, attacking long enough to berate him...again. "Quit it. Good lord. Are you a man or what?" Seriously!?
Candace put a bit more force behind her stroke this time. Perhaps if she hit harder he'd be more inclined to fight back.

"I don't need to prove anything to you," Before wheezed, his white coat stained red from all the strikes. ********, if he survived this, he was going to be in so. Much. Pain. He stared at Candace. Teal eyes hard and suspicious. He would always be suspicious of her and her intentions. Now and forever.
Vanna wouldn't allow her partner to stay still for much longer. She was screaming, roaring, and shrieking for him to fight back. Or at the very least not die. It got to the point his weapon's voice was sobbing in the back of his head. The blade tore at his chest, leaving a deep gash that was likely going to scar but who cares? He was always covered up anyway and oh s**t, he forgot to mention to someone that he wanted to be cremated.
He could spot no opening in his opponent's stance. Not that he could spot one if it came up to him and b***h-slapped him. "What are you really trying to do, Candace?" he asked before he lashed at her legs with his own weapon.
