Emma stomped her foot, lost again. She looked around "At least I don't have to worry about being late to class this time." she said to herself as she counted down the hall. The castle was so huge that the poor girl had gotten lost at least three other times that first week. She had also dropped her book bag about ten times and tripped a few more
She finally came across a door and opened it hoping to find the stairs. Nope "Maybe I can at least get a nap here." she thought tired of being run around by the walls and ghosts and paintings. She went into the dark room and shortly after the lanterns lit themselves revealing the music instruments. She wasn't expecting to see what she saw and ended up running into a few chairs.
She girmmised slightly and fixed the chairs that she ran into "I wouldn't have expected this, I wonder if there's a cooking class." she said in awe.

Since hearing more about the Hogwarts choir and band from a fellow Slytherin, Jasper had gotten curious. He had decided several days ago to take a trip around the castle and search for the music department- or room, if that were the case. He didn't much enjoy the voyage itself (Jasper was not one for adventure) though it was nice to get a look around the castle. He learned some things about the structure- and more about the moving staircases!
The Slytherin had heard that music was held on the third floor. All was quiet, but he moved along anyway. Eventually, he came across an open doorway; inside, the room was dark, but he could see instruments. The most unexpected thing of all, however, was a girl's voice!
"Hello..?" he called out uncertainly.

Emma was a bit stunned to suddenly hear a voice in the rather empty room and turned around again tripping this time over her own two feet. "Oh, Hi." she said getting up and dusting herself off like nothing happened.
She didn't know where she was, other then the fact it was some music room but she didn't want to admit that. "Came to see the music room too huh?" she said playing it off that she wanted to see it. Even though it was completely by chance that she was there.

Jasper was relieved to find that the girl in the room was merely a student like himself, and not a teacher on patrol for any wayward students. He was not sure if he was allowed to be here at this time, but was glad that he would not have to find out just yet! He was so relieved that he smiled at her immediately, then sighed softly.
"Yes, I suppose you could say that~" he said, regaining his composure. "Curious as to what sort of instruments Hogwarts has to offer..."
From the looks of it... quite a lot!

Emma nodded "Yeah I don't quite know what music really has to do with magic though." she said with a chuckle looking around. "Sorry raised by... muggles." she said remembering the word "Was adopted... I just found out resentfully so between that and coming here it's been a lot."
She didn't seem to mind that she was adopted she knew Da loved her but still who could give up their child and what sickness was she suppressible to. "So ahh I'm Emma McQuen." she said introducing herself with a smile since they where talking anyway.

Jasper stiffened a little at hearing that Emma had been raised by muggles... He knew that he would encounter them at Hogwarts, but hadn't known that he would be socializing with them so... soon! He relaxed a little when he heard that she was adopted, but it did not fully quell his uneasiness. Jasper was aware that muggleborn children were on the rise, but this was the first he had actually met here, with the knowledge that she was! And she was so open about it, too!
He shivered a little, but tried to remain collected.
"You have a pretty name~" he said, keeping the shakiness out of his voice to the best of his ability. He was so thrown off, however, that he forgot his manners, and did not give her his own name!

Emma was a little shocked that a boy said that about her name. "Oh Thank You." she said still a bit shocked. That she herself didn't catch his name, if he had given it to her.
She turned around to look at some of the other instruments. "They don't seem any different from the ones at my old school." she said crossing her arms. "Though I guess music's always been a universal magic. If it makes you feel something. Just like cooking." she said thinking and then tapped the top of one of the cymbals on the drum set.
After a few taps with the light brass sound she stopped the cymbal's vibration. "What about you? You like doing anything?" she said turning back being careful not to knock the drum set down when she did. Even though she mentioned cooking the way she did wasn't apparent that she liked to cook over playing or lessening to music.

As Emma spoke, Jasper cautiously stepped into the room- careful around both the musical instruments and the girl. She seemed pretty mature for her age, but made him so nervous that he was the one acting like a child! He crept along the far wall, trying to remain inconspicuous, but probably not succeeding very well.
Jasper smiled at her question to disguise his nerves.
"Do you mean to ask if I like music?" he paused shortly. "I like music, though I only play for fun, on occasion; I've not had enough lessons to be well-versed in it..."

Emma smiled "I haven't played an instrument." she admitted taking an odd step back and knocking over the vary cymbal that she didn't mean to knock over.
Luckily she mainged to catch herself and the cymbal stand before she and it went into the rest of the drum set. "I prefer cooking a good meal, And the music made in one's mouth but food always tasts better when enjoyed with loved ones and when you put your heart in it." she said putting the cymbal back.
She then looked back at boy. "It also reminds me of my mother. That and it seems the only time I'm not clumsy is when I'm cooking." she said moving away from the drum set.

Jasper laughed softly- uncertainly- when Emma described her skill with cooking. She seemed to enjoy it, but there was also remorse in her voice- Jasper could only presume it was because of the thought of her mother. Jasper liked to think that he was good at reading people- and he was sure that something had happened...
However, it would be terribly improper to ask her about it.
"I do not know how to cook..."

Emma nodded "We can't all know everything even if we try." she said with a smile. "Though cooking might be a little easier then music... well I guess that would depend on the instrument... The Triangle is easier then cooking." She chuckled. It was funny to her because the Triangle only made one sound so even if you tried you couldn't play it incorrectly.
"So uh.... what did you say you say your name was?" she asked realizing when she went to ask him a question that she didn't know his name. She felt a little embarrassed thinking that he had already stated it.

It wasn't that he could not cook... Well, he couldn't... but, nevertheless, cooking was for girls! He was not a girl, so he did not cook... Jasper knew that it was not this way with everyone, but that was how he had been raised.
"Oh, I had not told you..." Jasper said, touching his chin with one finger. "It is Jasper, though..."
Immediately afterward, Jasper wondered if he should have given her his name! It would have been impolite to refuse, of course, but she lived with muggles... His mother would have scolded him for not being cautious enough.

Emma chuckled "Ah well a publisher Jasper." she said small bow. "Sorry I don't really know how to curtsy, Da and Mr. Gafle always said that it was a waste of time, because of all the work we would have to do on the farm." she said as she stood up again.
"Still always good to have something that you enjoy doing." she said twisting the ribbon a bit. Since she had to switch from pencils to quills she's noticed when she put the feather in her mouth so twisting the ribbon on her arm or chewing on it became a replacement for the pencils. "One of my favort chefs ... Is Robert Irvine. Though he moved to America so It's harder for me to see him cooking unless I use the internet." she said using muggle terms not knowing that Jasper might not know them.

Jasper frowned slightly at Emma's bow. It would have been impolite to grimace excessively, but he certainly did not approve of it! Ladies were too delicate to be outdoors, working on a farm... bowing... But he didn't have to think on it for long, because he was more distracted by Emma's mention of the Internet. What on Earth..?
"The Internet..?" Jasper was hesitant to ask what it was, as he did not want to appear knowledgeable. However, he honestly did not know what it was... After thinking about it for a moment or two, he thought that he might have heard it in relation to muggles once, but...
He did so hope that she would clarify!

Emma rubbed her head a little. "Oh right, I guess it would be called something different for the wizarding world.... It's like owl post... I guess but far quicker... " she said thinking. "So you could talk with someone that's far away at the same time.... and watch something else at the same time...." she said not knowing how to explain. "And look up another thing at the same time."
She sighed "Sorry I guess that's not the best explanation. Since there's a lot more to the internet." she apologized "I'm still getting use to the wizarding world myself."
She felt a little embarrassed that she used a muggle term to a wizard who didn't know what it was. She figured he thought she was dummy but that wasn't anything new she always being made fun of back home because she was clumsy. If it weren't for Clover being such a rock she would probably get made fun of even more. She however still smiled like it was alright she didn't mind being teased.
