It's hard not to believe that 5 years ago this month at the 2001 Daytona 500 that Dale Earnhardt Sr. would leave the racing scene forever. I saw the final lap crash that involved Ken Schrader. It looked as if Dale was just banged up. But it was later on I got a call from my sister that I heard that he passed away. Wheter he was loved or hated, he did alot to pu Nascar on the map and create the fandom that exist today. If it was not for him, we all would not be here discussing Nascar or any form of motorsports.

Yeah, the worst part about that is that it didn't look that bad. I was sad that Dale crashed out of the 500 yet again, and then Darrel Waltrip was talking about how that was a very bad crash and he was worried about Dale. I started to get an uneasy feeling as time went past and Dale still hadn't climbed out of the car. When they finally said that he was dead, I was in shock.
NASCAR just isn't the same without that 3 car out there. cry

I was only 13 when I saw it, and at first it didnt really like bother me, we all are destined to die somehow. I think it didnt bother me casue he died doing what he loved, and thats what matters. He was happiest at the moment, especially racing at Daytona. I guess when Steve Park won that race after Dale died that it really hit me that he wasn't coming back
