1. Courteous. If there was one thing his mother taught him right, it's when to be polite. He sometimes hold's open a door, retrieves a dropped item, or sometimes goes out of his way to help a friend in need with no benefit to himself.
2. Educated. He's an intelligent man down on his luck. To hold his position for the news paper, he had gone through the process of a higher education and received his diploma in editorial writing. He tries not to use large words in conversation, as it often makes the person he's talking to feel uncomfortable (and perhaps inadequate) in the conversation. He doesn't always like to 'dumb down' his vocabulary, but does when the situation calls for it.
3. Trustworthy. A friend in need is a friend indeed. He's a man that, as stated, will go out of his way to help. He will not touch them, ever. Nor will he go near them if given the option. Should he face a scenario where he had to save someone's life and they were in a snake pit, he'd start praying for them as he ran away. Let's just hope you're never stuck in a snake pit and Jon is the only one near by.

History and Purpose for a pet :
He's just an average guy whose adult life started off perfect. He married his high school sweetheart Maria, went to college with her, and the two graduated together. With his degree in journalism, Jonathan then got a job in a local newspaper as a sports commentator, having a daily column to summarize the games that had gone on the night before.
All in all, he was happy. If you asked him, he would say his life was perfect and he was happy to be alive.
But happiness is easy to lose.
With the change in the economy, the newspaper company he worked for had to cut back. Then cut back some more. Soon he had been laid off from work as well, and found himself at the end of a rather long unemployment line.
When the money disappeared, so did his wife. She wasn't happy losing the comfortable life style that she had and soon delivered him divorce papers to run off with her boss.
He now found himself unhappy. His life did a 180 on him and the man was struggling to find which direction to go in. Unemployed, divorced and barely able to manage a dirt cheap apartment in a shitty part of town, Jonathan began to distance himself from reality. If he didn't see how much his life sucked in this point of time, maybe he could see that glimmer of hope in his world of depression.
He was searching for a reason to live, and of course searching for a job. He had heard once that a pet could make you happy. Perhaps that is what he truly needed, someone to share his tiring days with, who he could vent to and trust would keep a secret. But could he afford it? Perhaps all he needed was someone to say, "It'll get better," and push him forward in life.
