Danny slumped into her room, not even bothering to check for her dorm key. After all, her dorm was always unlocked.
A wave of familiar, comforting heat hit her, and her legs wobbled a little. It was so comforting and welcoming that she just about bowled over right there on the spot again. This really wasn't fun. She was getting tired of thinking so much all the time. It was really uncomfortable, and it gave her this ringing feeling afterwards. Definitely not welcome.
"Roch?" she called out wearily. Partially she called out because she felt like she was going to tip over again, but it was something more than that. She just wanted to make sure someone was there. Anyone would've done, but she just didn't want to be alone.
As soon as the door cracked open, Gamyiel was there making faces at her, like it was her fault she was all beat up. Ignis was asleep in the corner. In fact, her dorm looked rather normal. Like they hadn't been gone at all.
... Except the giant pile of wrapped packages in the corner.

"Right behind you," Roch said. Jack it was hot in her room, he thought as he unzipped his vest. Oddly, though, he didn't take it off this time. "You okay? You ain't gonna fall over on me, are you?" he said, reaching out to catch her just in case.
He was already starting to sweat. Yay.

"N-No ... I'm okay ..." she said, carefully walking into her room. It was hard when there were so many packages everywhere. It seemed as though the delivery gnomes hadn't really cared where they put things, so there wasn't really a clear path to her bed. There was a note on one of the boxes near the entrance, clearly written in gnome scrawl.
Next time tell 'yer mum not to deliver so many!
Danny scorched the note, not really remembering that Roch was nearby, and definitely flammable. What were all these boxes for? They were all individually wrapped, with a pink string, save for one that was sitting on her bed with blue string. Each one had a name tag printed carefully on the ribbon, but Danny didn't really bother reading them.
Was it her imagination, or was one of those boxes moving?
She shook her head and turned back to Roch. "Can you help me move some of these?" She pointed to her bed, assuming Roch would understand what she meant.

"Huh? Oh... uh, yeah," Roch said blankly, staring at the room full of things. "Danny, is it your birthday or something?" he asked suddenly. "Cuz seriously, if it's not, this is kind of creepy..."
He moved forward, starting to build up walls so she could at least get to her bed. They weren't heavy, really, there were just a ton of them. And Danny's room wasn't small in the least, but it looked pretty full. "What ARE these?" he asked curiously, tempted to shake one.

Was it her birthday? Danny couldn't really remember. She thought it was October 31st, not this October 31st. Well it was from her mom, she knew that much.
Honestly though? She didn't really care. The only thing she wanted right now was a change of clothing and her bed. "It's not, they're fr-"
Roch started shaking one of the packages, and a discrete yelp sounded throughout the room. It was definitely clear that there was something living in these packages.
Well okay, that wasn't that unusual. Danny finally made her way to her bed and flopped onto it. Sure she was blood encrusted, bruised and burned, but DAMN did a bed feel good.

"Danny... the box just yelped," he pointed out the obvious. "You got a room full of boxes that yelp... and you're just gonna go to sleep?" he asked. He looked at the box again, wondering if he should try opening it and letting the yelping thing out--
"Do you usually get boxes that yelp?"

Okay, she was all set in her bed. It was cushy and soft and warm. She could just fall asleep and the-
Roch's voice cut across her to-be slumber like a knife. Oh right, he was still in the room. Danny sighed and flipped herself over. Unlike Roch, she was quite used to getting a plethora of presents from her family, her mother in particular. Danny rolled over her bed, remembering the oddly colored blue one. There was a note sitting on top of it.
Dearest Daniella,
Danny made a gagging face. She didn't like her real, longhand name much.
I heard about your dreadful school trip. Sorry!
That was so like her mother.
Found these in the shop yesterday. Cutest little things with their- well nevermind. The blue one is apparently a rare ... something or other. Cost 1000 seeds!
Best not to show Roch that sum.
Hope you're feeling better, Mum.
Danny sighed and set the letter down on her shelf. She looked at the packages in her room. "Uhh. You can have ... that one," she said, pointing to a random package.

Roch blinked. She was giving him a yelping box. "Cool!" he said, grabbing the box she offered and looking at it curiously. "So your parents send them or something?" he asked, tugging at the ribbon. "Why? Did the note tell you?" He was completely oblivious to the fact she wanted to go to sleep. She'd been sleeping lots already!

"Mmmm yeah. Mummy found them ... or ... something." Danny was already distracted and onto the next subject. Wearily, she crawled to her closet and pulled out a spare set of clothes. It was a pair of pajamas, because Danny couldn't really imagine doing too much other than sleeping today. The "pajamas" were no more than a pair of boxers and a flimsy t-shirt though. Flame demonness and all.
She left Roch to play with his box, only for a moment to slip into the bathroom to change. She thought about turning on the bath, but it seemed like too much effort. The fireplace was drawing her in, but she ignored it.
Returning to the room, she looked at her own box. Guess there was nothing better to do, right. Danny leapt onto her bed (which she immediately regretted, because then about five scabs opened up), and clawed at her package.
Danny was never really a "neat" person, and opening packages was no exception. She only had enough time to see the word, "Tonlida" before she opened the package. Out came a fluffy white ball of fur.
Well that was unexpected. Danny watched as the fluffy thing daintily sniffed her bed and then promptly sat on her lap. This thing obviously had some sass to it. Tonlida. That meant Tony right? Danny awkwardly pet the thing, and said, "Well ... okay Tony."

"Oh, huh, it's cute," Roch said, looking at her "Tony." "That's different from what's in here, right?" he asked, holding up his box. "But either way, I think I'll keep it in the box for a bit, I gotta let Jackdammit get used to the smell."
In other words, he was really worried his cat would kill the lil guy. That would suck. And explaining it to Danny? Not so easy.

"How d'you know its different?" she asked, clearly confused. Danny clearly couldn't put two and two together in her groggy state. Then again, she couldn't put two and two together in her normal state either.
Danny flopped her head back onto her pillow, and the little Rabo followed in suit, cuddling right up next to her. Danny stroked it absent mindedly, and the motion started making her eyes flutter. That medicine had made her feel better, but it was starting to make her drowsy.
Now G had been watching the entire time, and was quite enamored with this new white beauty. He immediately snuggled up to Danny and Tony. Ignis, on the other hand, completely ignored them.
Tiredly, Danny looked up at Roch and said, "I'm just gonna ... but ca- ..." She didn't quite know how to ask him. She wanted him to stay and keep her company, but they didn't quite work like that. Would he find it awkward? Probably.
She just knew that she didn't want to be alone after watching everyone die. In fact, Danny still didn't know if Colette was okay, nor Mandy. Was Moure alright? And what about Red? She regenerated home right? Danny wanted to ask Roch a million things, but just couldn't find the energy to.

"Go to sleep Danny," he said, tucking his box (right side up) under his arm. "You can find out everything you need to in the morning. Besides, it's freakin' boiling in here. I need another bottle of water," he said.

Danny frowned a bit at Roch's denial, but couldn't really say anything. It was his choice after all, and she hadn't even properly asked him. Besides, he was sweating buckets. Danny couldn't fry him alive!
Sighing, she pushed her face into pillow and said, "I'm way ahead of you okay." It was true too. Even though she wanted him to stay, her strength was pretty much non-existent. Just what did Cricket put in that medication?
It didn't matter. Danny waved Roch out the door, and then fell asleep right on the spot, with her new minipet curled around her.
