It’s interesting; the days that change your life often seem so very, very bland at first.
As it was today for Garethon. The day had started so slowly, which was by design. It had only been a few days since he had gotten his newest promotion. Somehow, the man who had been in this position before had befallen a tragic domestic accident after photos of him and a much younger woman had SOMEHOW made their way to his wife. The doctors said he was recovering well but he would need rest, and in the meantime could not work. Garethon had been well positioned to take over when everything had happened.
Strangely enough, he had already packed up his old office.
But now he couldn't pull anything until this last scheme settled down, and he was bored. He had already re arranged his office three times, and the largeness of it was already starting to wear off. The view wasn't what he thought it was. Maybe another story up?
He was considering things while, on the other side of the door, the biggest change that would ever occur in his life was about to enter. And he was thinking about windows.

"Nice view," she said, after a moment of watching him. She had not come in through the door, as she had been intent on making a cool entrance. So she had teleported in, and was waiting next to a stacked filing cabinet. She stepped out from the shade it provided now. It seemed like she had either been in there the whole while and he had just missed her, which seemed impossible, or she had come out of no where.
To look at, she didn't seem like much. Short stature, cute, short brown hair, her accent sweetened by an English heritage. Her eyes were bright and warm, misleading but confident regardless. She looked at him with those keen eyes, seeming to take in everything about him.
But she had already gotten a very good idea of who he was.
Her outfit was strange, and she wasn't holding a weapon. He wouldn't be able to feel the strong aura of chaos around her, denoting her status as a general in the negaverse. At least, not yet.
"I like what you did to that chump in your way. Those pictures? Very classy. An excellent grab for power if ever I saw one. Which makes me wonder. Just how far will you go, for the promise of power? And what would you do, if I offered you more than you could ever fathom?"

Garethon jumped as she appeared. What the heck? Where had she come from? Instinctively he reached for his upper left hand drawer, a move he’d actually practiced in his old office, where he used to keep a small knife as a just in case measure. His new desk drawer was farther over though, so he just smacked his fist on wood. He cursed silently, clenching his fist. He hadn't actually moved the knife into this office yet. Just his luck.
He tried to keep calm as he answered. "I'm quite sure I don't know what you're talking about" He said with a look that clearly said "Yeah, that was me."
"As for your offer... I've heard every line in the book. Wrote some of them. And if any normal kid had come in here and made that offer they’d be out of here so fast their ears would be ringing. But you seem to have gone to a lot of trouble to make an... entrance, and get my attention."
He tried to keep a cool air. He had made a fool of himself reaching for the knife, but that was just because he was startled. She didn't seem armed or threatening, so it must be that she meant business. And if this was business, he intended to be in control. This was his office after all.
"Which leads me to believe you're not just some punk with a pamphlet. So, tell me, what is this proposition you have for me? Cause if it really is as good as you claim, you better believe I'll move heaven and earth to get it."
He crossed his arms, watching her intently. Something about her made him wish he had moved that dagger.

Painite grinned at him, nodding her head at his denial. She wasn't surprised he was trying to get out of it, as she would at the same time. He had a delivery that she appreciated and found interesting. Amusing.
He reminded her of just the kind of person she liked best. Like herself.
"Kid?" She was only a few years younger than he was, from the looks of it. She arched her eyebrow at him, tilting her head to the side and grinning just as crookedly. that air of confidence and control never faded: she was a lady that was sure of herself at all times.
And she had more power over the situation than he knew, which always helped. She loved knowing things other people didn't.
"Have you heard much of those little terrorists running around? The ones in the skirts. They're invaders here, on our planet. Yours, and mine. If you want ranks to climb, I can certainly give them to you. You want challenges? I can make your life more difficult and more rewarding than you can imagine. Far more than pushing paper around and framing cheating husbands. I can give you a real fight."
She moved closer to him, watching keenly. She had already settled on him, thinking him a perfect candidate for the Negaverse, and seeing in him the same potential she saw in her other Lieutenants, in herself as well. His will and drive were compelling to say the least.

Garethon watched her watching him. This was NOT the turn he had expected this conversation to take, and he was more and more intrigued as she spoke.
Most people would have found what she was saying a little... crazy, for lack of a better word. But Garethon was excited, though he tried not to show it. She was right, he felt like he was destined for greater things, and he liked the idea of being a soldier against them, and that seemed to be what she was implying.
"I have heard of them, and you have my interest. One question though."
He looked her dead in the eyes. She was holding all the cards, so he had to make up for it by sheer determination and will.
"What’s the catch?"
There was ALWAYS a catch. Always something you had to give. And he wanted to know what it was here before he fausted his soul right out the window.

She grinned at him. She liked a man who could see the bigger picture.
"You serve the Negaverse. Chaos. You fulfill your quota and your duties as you're asked, all the while focusing on propelling yourself forward. Growing stronger. Defeating our enemies. Your enemies. This planet is ours. And now, you have your chance to fight for it."
That was about as much choice as she was inclined to give him. She knew she had him, and that there was no backing out for him now. Sauntering up to him, leaning against him as she put one hand on his side and the other against his chest, she looked up into his eyes. She examined them for something and seemed to see what she wanted, a smile curling the corner of her dainty lips.
She tapped his chest with her finger.
"Unless you don't think you're ready for something like that," she teased, "I can understand if it's too much for you."

Garethon wasn't inclined to lose his cool at such a jab, he was focused on the task at hand. He was, however, also not about to turn down this offer, so it really made no difference if she was taunting him or not. He wanted this so bad he could almost tast it.
"I've never met a challenge I can't best, in fact I've rarely met anything I would venture so far as to call as 'challenge'. So bring it on."
He wasn't sure what happened next. Uniform distribution? Orientation? That would be really anticlimactic after this moment, but he couldn’t imagine something else happening. He didn’t fully understand what he was getting into, though he had some idea he was in over his head.
Still, he didn’t break eye contact. He liked being in over his head.

Painite smiled at him. It wasn't exactly a nice smile. It was devious and knowing, and she moved forward. It looked like she was going to kiss him for a moment, but she had no such intention with her closeness for something like that.
She pushed her hand into his chest. The pain would hit him instantly, and tear through every fiber of his being. But with that came power. Her hand was wrapped around his starseed, chaos flowing through her and into the essence of his life, granting him what he needed.
As long as she didn't put too much into him, and turn him into a youma.
When she pulled her hand away from him he would find himself a new man, a man of the Negaverse. She knew he wouldn't know a damn thing to start, but that was her job. She would teach him everything he needed to know.
She watched him, eyes keen, expression coy, smirk crawling across her features. That was just a taste, she knew, of what the Negaverse had to offer, and now he had all of it at his fingers. All he needed to do was prove her right, and reach out for it.

Garethon gasped at the pain for just a moment before he had regained control and clamped his mouth shut. He had felt pain before, but never like THIS. This pain was overwhelming; it dominated his mind pushing out all other information.
And, with a gasp, the pain was gone. He blinked, looking down at his sleeves. This power... felt great! There was a slight ache in his chest where he had just been pierced, but he paid it no mind. He clenched his fist.
"I can... feel you."
He looked up at her. And he could. She felt very powerful, very dark. He reached over his shoulder; there was a weight on his back. He pulled his toy sword over his shoulder.
"What is this?"

Painite moved her hand from his chest once she saw his new attire and knew she had corrupted him to their side. Corrupted. That was a fun word, and she reveled in its use. She'd take corrupted over whatever the alternative was, any day. In her mind, it had a positive connotation to it. But she never really cared to give much thought to how the other side might view things.
Her way or the highway, basically.
She grinned at him as he took stock of himself. She looked him over, as well, nodding her head at the weapon on his back. A fake sword at Lieutenant? That would be an interesting one to watch develop. And she never recruited unless she felt she would be seeing a future General before her, so already he had a lot to live up to.
But she imagined the challenge was right up his alley.
"That's my aura you're feeling," she said placidly, all but purring like a kitten in her happiness, "and you'll feel a lot more. There are those like us, with Chaos guiding them, and there are those that consider themselves 'pure'. Their energy is disgustingly clean, and they are your enemies. Senshi and knights."
She grinned calling her weapon to her hand. The long spear, tipped like a javelin on the bottom and sporting a large, intimidating spear head at the top, seemed to glow faintly from the purple runes etched on its head.
"That is your weapon. This is mine. We can call and banish them as we need to, with a thought. That will be like an extension of you, and you should practice with it as much as possible. You have a duty now, to complete a quota of gathering energy from civilians. I'll show you how to do it, that will be one of our first lessons. For proper introductions, I am General Painite, and I am going to train you and make sure you don't get yourself killed. You know your real name, you've just never had the means to say it, until now."

Magnetite looked up at her, a little confused at first. His real name? That was just.... even as he thought it the word formed in his head. Magnetite. "Magnetite." He said slowly, and then added "A pleasure to meet you."
"I presume this" he motioned to his plastic sword "Will improve as time goes on. I feel a marked disadvantage compared to… Well, your weapon." A spear might have been nice, or a real sword. But Magnetite would make do, he always did.
"And what is my Quota? Never mind, I’m getting ahead of myself."
He stood up, grabbing a piece of paper from his desk and scrawling a note.
"Emergency meeting with important client. Will be back in tomorrow."
He signed it and put the note on his desk. His secretary would find it when she got in, and wouldn't know how lucky she was that she didn't get fired for being so late.
"All right. Show me."

Painite grinned at him and nodded her head.
She let him write his note, not reading it but assuming it was some excuse to get out of work. Good. She didn't want to upset his civilian life, or make anything look strange. It was important for them to work in the shadows when they had to, and not cause any trouble that would give away their work in this regard. Corrupting new soldiers, and keeping their identities just as secret as everyone else.
It was a funny thing to think about, just how many people were lying to one another, and no one ever had any idea. Painite rarely let that thought register with her.
So the lesson began. She took hold of his shoulder and teleported with him outside, onto the roof. She explained that he would be able to teleport when and if he was promoted to Captain. She also gave him a quick run over the weapon progression through the ranks, that his sword would change with each power up, and would become more dangerous or useful.
"Now. As far as quotas go, we simply need energy to do our work. We gather this energy from civilians. Generally, the cover of night helps us, but there are always senshi and knights wandering around. You have to keep your senses open, to feel for them while you're working. Come on, we'll go find an easy target and you can try out gathering energy for yourself. The best way to learn to do it is to just try, it's difficult to explain without feeling."
She looked around, glancing over the edge of the roof to see if there were any hapless souls wandering around the wrong place at the wrong time.

Garethon nodded, listening. So his weapons WOULD become more useful. Good. He didn't want to be stuck with THIS thing for any longer then he had to.
When she peered over the edge, he looked over as well.
"Senshi and Knights... tell me about them. You say I’ll be able to feel them, like I feel you? Will there be a difference? What should I expect from them?" It was a lot of questions, but Garethon knew knowledge was key to any battle. More than anything else, he did NOT want to be behind out the starting gate.
He watched for a target even as he spoke; ready to try... whatever it was she wanted him to try. Energy collection, she had said. He didn't know what that entailed but he was eager to learn. It sounded like power, and he was interested in power.

Painite would have to explain to her new Lieutenant just how lucky he was to get something swingable, something he might actually hurt a senshi with, even slightly. Some of them had things like one single playing card, or a handful of jacks. She had a hobby horse when she started, but it had proven to be a good ally.
She could never really complain about that.
"There is a difference. We'll go out and find one some time, if you don't run into one beforehand. Their auras don't share that power, that chaos, that ours do. I suppose you can say they feel cleaner, in an obnoxious way. Sterile like a hospital." She shook her head. It was hard to explain a feeling, but she knew he would understand the moment he ran into one. "You'll be able to tell knights from senshi, and even the different agents of chaos, apart from each other. It sounds complicated, but it's something you get used to in time."
Like breathing, right from that start.
"Senshi think this is their planet, but they're wrong. This is our home, and they do not belong here. They have their planets, and they invade our world like they are meant to own it. The knights, as well, are just as bad as senshi and fight alongside them." She shook her head.
"Now, let's go outside and find you your first target. I'll explain the rest as the need arises: we'll be training together a lot, so get used to my pretty face."

He smirked at her.
"I'm sure that won’t be an issue"
He looked down off the roof at the people moving by, curious if they were going to teleport back down or take the elevator, which might look strange in his current attire.
"What does taking their energy do to them? Does it kill them?"
He didn't ask tentatively, it didn't bother him at all that he might have to kill some civilians. It might, however, effect which civilians he targeted.
Bellatrix might be a good start... No, too obvious. If he killed someone that close to him it might become obvious who he is. Besides, he was getting ahead of himself.
