Tula

I belong to no pack
Where I rank as the Loner
I've lived this life for Three years
And I'm fairly certain I'm a Female

My coat is dark chocolate brown in color
But my eyes are eye color
If you wish to label me though, I'm a Chocolate Lab

I find love with no one
While my life lives on in my kindness. Though I would love to have pups some day.
However, I left out nothing that I can think of.

They say I'm Tula is a bit too naive and too caring to be a proper loner dog. Its true at first this lab is very untrusting of those she just met. But if they were even to be the slightest bit nice or offer some sort of peace treaty she would accept it pretty quickly. This ’fault’ has caused her to be hurt a few times along the way. Not to mention gone hungry for a long while leaving scraps she did find for smaller pups she has seen alone. She probably would have been a proper loyal companion if fate had dealt her such a hand, but very skittish around humans and is rather untrusting of them.

It's been a long journey Tula‘s story is not too uncommon. She was born at a puppy farm, though she doesn‘t remember much of those few weeks she was there. She and her siblings, as well as any other dog born here that wasn’t kept for breading, were sold as soon as they could to any number of places. She and one of her brothers were shipped off to a low economy pet store. It was a nice enough place. There were soft places to sleep and warmth from other dogs. Though it was true that some dogs who had been a their a little longer and were a little older would some times sneak bites from hers and her brothers food. But that was pretty natural. There was never a shortage of attention from the humans and when there was there were plenty of playmates around. Her earliest memories were formed there. Wrestling about with her brother and the children and workers that came in and played with her. But like several puppies before her, Tula was picked up and carried away one night before Christmas.

Oh yes, Tula was a Christmas dog. A man had picked her out after his daughter had spent hours playing with her a couple of days before. Tula was frightened but happy she was going some where. The man was pretty gentle and placed a big bow around her neck. After being placed in a the laundry room, the puppy Tula was rather bored and slept during most of the activities. But after a few presents were opened, she heard the man coming to get her once more. She was the surprise gift! The little girl had squealed and picked up Tula pretty enthusiastically. A perhaps a little too roughly. But all in all Tula found her self excited as well. She went about licking the girl’s face. The two fell instantly in love with one another. Perfect so far right? Tula thought so too.

Little did the little girl or the still fairly young pup know was that the marriage of the parents was falling apart. The father had bought Tula in spite of the mother’s insisting that they couldn’t afford it. So much in bliss was their first months together, Tula and the little girl didn’t notice the snippy comments being passed between the older pair. No, not until there was shouting did either of them know anything was wrong at all. What didn’t help matters was that both parents were having an “affair with the bottle”. One that would swing them both into violent rages. Tula used to hide with the girl under her bed. But as Tula approached her first birthday things started to get worse. Sometimes when the mother would see Tula she would smack and kick the dog roughly to get out of the way. This would send the little girl wailing. The mother would yell at the little girl even more saying things like “you love that dog more than your own mother!” The girl would cry more than the mother would crumple and hold the girl close and offer to give Tula a treat. Tula didn’t understand it but the little girl would encourage her as well. But things continued to get worse and worse. Sometimes the mother would seek out Tula while the little girl was at school and wallop on her.

It didn‘t take a the little girl long to know that these beating were taking place. Tula acted differently and wouldn’t come about when her mother was near. Plus the woman had no self control and would leave marks that if she hadn’t been drunk at the time she would have seen. The father didn’t do much to stop it. He was at work all the time, or out with the boys. So when the word Divorce was brought up it and the father made it clear he would have no room for Tula at his place, the little girl knew Tula couldn’t stay with her mother. For she had threatened before to put the dog down when the little girl was naughty. So the little girl did what she thought was best.

After begging her father, the little girl got him to take her and her beloved Tula to a park across . The yearling was rather excited about this trip! Car rides were unusual. Tula hadn’t even been to the vet since being bought. So she didn’t fear the vehicles then. The little girl didn’t seem so excited. Though Tula had licked the little girl’s face and tried her best to make the girl excited as well it was no use. Suddenly the girl snapped out of it, or seemed to at least, when they got of the car. She and Tula played all day away from the father who was too busy on some business call to notice her much. So finding a secluded spot the girl told Tula to sit. Tula did so. The little girl unhooked her collar and stuffed it in her pocket throwing the leash part into a near by bush. Little girl told Tula to stay. Tula did head cocked as the girl backed away. When the girl had gotten a little further than she usually did, Tula started to stand. The girl yelled back at her to sit. The little girl had never yelled at her before, and Tula did what she was told with hurt deep in her eyes. But she stayed even when the little girl disappeared. She stayed after night had fallen. Sure perhaps a more experienced dog would have moved, or try to sniff her way back. But Tula stayed and curled up in a ball and slept there that night.

The next day she woke to the sound of foot steps. Tula had barely opened her eyes when a noose like trap was thrown over her head. The chocolate lab struggled. It was a dog catcher. Tula didn’t know who this man was! She certainly didn’t like what he was doing. She thrashed as the man cursed not getting a good hold on her. Then she ran. As fast and as hard as she could. Into an alleyway still with the dog noose around her neck. She tired to catch her breath but soon heard growls. Another older, more streetwise, and defiantly more vicious dog came out of a near by dumpster. He told her to get out of his alley! That she would attract the catchers. Frightened the chocolate lab ran until she found an occupied place. There she bang her life on the streets. Needless to say the yearling was a fast leaner when it came to street life. Which probably what saved her. Though her genuine belief that there is good in both dogs and people keeps getting her into trouble….

For two years and a couple of months she has been on her own now. She is doing alright but is slightly a social dog so she craves to be long. Tula hasn’t approached either packs, but it wouldn’t be unlikely for a member or either pack to have seen her around. But then again it was an awfully big city, with an awful lot of stray dogs.

((I could see her becoming a sitter or something for one of the packs one day but yeah. If ya want more just tell meh xD))
