He stared down at the papers before him, one time she had been part of them, at one time she had been a general he admired a great deal. Possibly he had admired her more than anyone else in the universe. She had never unsettled him the way that Tanzanite had as she had progressed through the Negaverse, her brutality and thirst for violence had been something that made him more glad to have Lina as his General. She understood things the way he did, she played it as a mental game, angles and probability, tactics and strategy.

It was her who unwound him a great deal; people were more than notes on a page to be scowled at and assumed the worst of. He wanted her back; he hated Castor for taking her away, whatever the reasons since she had said it wasn’t because of love, because it’d been the ‘only’ option. There was a strong part of him that hated her for thinking that as well. If she could have held on just a little longer, then they, he and Tanz if no one else could have stood together in her defense as he had stood for Ever.

He pushed the papers across the table with gritted teeth and turned away impatient and frustrated. He remembered her in the surrounding, the look on her face behind the golden wall, he remembered her ‘lover’, Castor’s face and his actions. What he wanted to do to the man would only make her hate them more. He wished so very much that he’d finished him despite the promise but… no, the damage had been done.

He looked up to the sound of boot heels approaching the old heavy door to the war room; he had not
Expected company but neither was he quite ready to turn the visitor away without reason, not yet. Not until he knew who it was and what they wanted of him. He had a duty to them after all.

Captain Petalite still wasn't the biggest fan of the Rift. She remembered her visit, Zanazziite being attacked by a feral youma stood out vividly. She already had burn scars running across her back, she didn't need to add anymore- she was too vain for that. Orange hair flicked over her shoulder as she navigated the castle, heading towards the war room. Her footsteps were the only that echoed against the stone walls. She had considered bringing Pectolite, but no. This was about Audrey and her boytoy had never really knew her cousin all that well.

It had been Audrey's birthday earlier in the week, needless to say it wasn't a good week for Victoria Collins or Captain Petalite. In either form she had suffered, unable to push the grief away in the wake of what should have been a happy week. While she knew, unlike her late aunt, that Audrey wasn't actually dead she was as good as. It wasn't like she could go track down Lina Knight and have a birthday party. The bluenette wouldn't remember her, not to mention she was sure Tanzanite would rip out her starseed when she found out.

Sighing she turned a corner, sapphire eyes that were red rimmed and puffy squinting as they adjusted to the change in light. No longer was she navigating just by the gentle orange glow of her uniform, but by the light that spilled out from the slightly open doorway of her destination. There was a pause and she looked at her self, taking stock. The bows on her tights drooped a bit as if they knew how she felt, and she knew her face looked like a mess. She had already cried off the make up that came with her being Petalite, leaving her face naked and bare. But her uniform was still pristine, every pleat of her tiny skirt hanging perfectly- it was obvious she hadn't been out collecting energy or fighting senshi.

Reaching up she patted the skin around her eyes lightly with her fingertips, as if she could massage away the puffy skin, and redness. It didn't take her long to give up on that and push forward, her knuckles rapping on the door lightly as she pushed it, just inserting her head as she looked for the General-King. Usually she would never be so polite, usually she would have just waltzed right in, but this week her fiery spirit was quelled.

"General-King Zinkenite?" She paused, unsure why she had really came to see him in the first place. She didn't really know him that well, but he had been Audrey's Lieutenant once, so he had to have known her well. With no family left in Destiny City, her Aunt killed herself and her Uncle moved back to Courtland, she found herself seeking out anyone who could sympathize with her feelings of loss. "I'm sorry to bother you, but I could speak with you." When he didn't immediately throw her out she pushed the door open stepping fully into the room. "I'm Captain Petalite." She paused again, worrying her bottom lip with her teeth. Would he recognize the name? She didn't know if Audrey had ever spoken of her to him.

He nodded, it didn’t answer if he knew her, or if he simply knew of her but that his eyes said he was at least peripherally familiar with her. Enough so that his eyes flicked to her hair and back out of curiosity at the loss of the once blue sweeps of it, replaced instead by a vivid orange that suited her uniform if nothing else.

“Come in, close the door if you need.” He nodded her to a chair and moved away from the papers he’d been examining, one hand lingering, just the fingertips tracing a name that was consuming both minds, though he had no way to know that yet.

“How may I help you?” He said quietly, eyes turned to hers, puffy with tears.

Petal watched as eyes a darker blue than her own looked her over and then away. She had noticed his look at her hair and absently a hand lifted to twist her fingers in the orange locks. The orange was never supposed to be permanent, but after Audrey defected the redhead didn't want any reminders of her cousin, and blue hair was definitely a reminder. Her hand dropped as did her eyes, staring at the floor. It seemed even the slightest thought of her cousin was wreaking havoc with her emotions.

She was still fighting to keep the tears from falling as the General-King offered her a seat. The door was closed silently behind her and she moved to the chair that Zink had gestured too. There was no sway of her hips as she moved, no invitation to take a peek at what she'd usually be flaunting for everyone and their mother, regardless of rank or sexual orientation. This Captain Petalite seemed to broken, thankfully it was temporary until she found the fix, it was just finding the fix that was the problem.

Sitting down she smoothed her fingers over her skirt, looking to the papers that the younger teen had been looking at. His words drew her gaze to him and her lower lip found its way between her teeth again as she found the words. "I'm sure you already know but, Audrey's birthday would have been this week." She paused, swallowing hard as she spoke the name, she didn't want to call her Lina. Lina Knight was not her cousin anymore. Quickly she added onto her statement, "I'm her cousin, I don't know if she told you about me." Hands lifted from her lap to play with the strands of her orange hair, sapphire eyes looking away from him to stare out the window. "I know this is completely inappropiate, but...I don't have any family left here, and I just needed to be around someone who...." Her hands dropped her hair to gesticulate, as if she was trying to pick the right word out of the air. "feels her loss." She looked back to Zinkenite then, a pained look in her eyes.

“I think more people than will admit it, feel her loss greatly.” He said and moved closer to lay a tentative hand on her shoulder. He wasn’t good at ‘real’ comfort, at least not in his own estimation but he’d do his best. He felt her loss like a dagger every time he saw her. She’d left all of them behind, maybe it was true, maybe she would have been dead by now if she’d stayed but at the same time she wouldn’t have been –theirs.

He couldn’t even justify telling Petalite that she left because otherwise the Queen would have seen her dead, or that he hadn’t had the strength to protect her the way he wanted. His fault, he couldn’t even blame the queen, his fault because if he’d told her, if he’d let her put herself in danger so fresh after nearly dying she might have died WITH them instead of going to Castor. “I, cared about her a great deal…” He said softly. “If things had, if I had the strength then that I do now.” He started and stopped again frustrated. “If there is any way to return her to us, without…” He stopped he didn’t want to raise the very real probability that it would simply destroy an already abused star seed, that she’d likely become a youma. “If I could return her to what she was I would.”

“This…” He waved a hand at his uniform. “It should have been her.”

The Captain leaned into the General-King's touch, grateful for whatever comfort he was offering her. A sigh passed her lips at his words, she wasn't completely convinced of that. Many of the Negaverse seemed to hate her. Petalite wasn't among their ranks. No matter what Audrey had done she was her cousin and she'd always love her. What she could, and did, hate was the act itself and that fool Castor. Just the thought of the senshi, had her blood running ice cold in fury. The redhead was convinced that Castor had somehow brainwashed Linarite- it was so much easier to just blame him.

Quiet words drew her attention away from the damn senshi and back to her General-King. Her eyes only showed the mildest curiosity when he spoke of caring for her. While she ususally would be all over any sort of gossip, she wasn't quick to bite in that moment. Sensing his frustration the Captain lifted a hand, resting it on top of the one that was on her shoulder, squeezing gently. If only she had been stronger. Vicky had always been the one to protect them when they had been children, but love, even the twisted kind that Audrey had fallen into, was something even Victoria Collins couldn't protect her from.

When Zinkenite's sentence trailed off it took Petalite a moment to really realize what he was saying. There was no way to bring her cousin back. She had been told this before of course, but she had been holding on to some shred of hope. Without even knowing it she had been hoping that maybe the new General-King knew some way to bring her back that Tanzanite refused to use, or some such thing. Hearing just the opposite broke what was left of Petalite's resolve and the tears began to spill down her cheeks.

"She would have made a gorgeous General-Queen." That was Petal, focused on beauty even in her darkest hour. She sniffled trying to stem the flow of tears, but it didn't seem to be working. "I just...I miss her so much." Saying the words aloud didn't help at all, and in seconds she was bawling her body moving out of it's own accord, seeking out the nearest source of comfort. Unfortunately for Zinkenite that meant him. The redhead stood wrapping her arms around him as she sobbed into his shoulder. The position was slightly awkward, even as tall as the General-King was Petalite was in heels and the taller of the two, but she didn't seem to notice, half hanging on him as her feelings overwhelmed her.

Hugging, tears and hugging, if the senshi had any idea that their greatest weapon, able to paralyze the little General King like a garden statue lay in hugging him close and sobbing on his shoulder leaving him utterly unsure of what was ‘safe’ behavior. Did he comfort her? Did he hold still? Did he offer words of re-assurance or hug her in return?

“I miss her too…” He confessed and carefully, very lightly on her shoulders so he wasn’t pushing her away, but neither was he prolonging the hug if she decided to disengage. “One day, one day maybe it will become possible, don’t give up that hope. If we keep fighting, then one day we may find a way to break the hold they took on her.” He offered quietly He believed it; to every problem there was a solution. If they looked hard enough there must be an answer.

He wondered if she knew the damage she had done, the hole she left behind that was slowly being filled with scars. The emptiness of her loss that would either be layered over with hate or new associations built on the ache of wanting her to return. Did it matter? The damage was done and for now his hands were tied.

The crying continued for a minute or so before Petalite finally got a hold of herself and managed to disentangle from Zinkenite, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. Sniffling she looked down at him, baby blue's still glassy. "I'm sorry, that was inappropriate," Her eyes flicked down to his shoulder that she had just been crying on and she frowned. "And I got your uniform wet." It almost seemed that was going to be enough to send her back to tears, but, luckily for him she managed to control herself.

She thought about what he had said, that maybe there was hope. She barely dared to believe it. And then she repeated his words in her head again, getting angry 'break the hold they took on her'. She savagely wiped at her eyes again, rubbing away the last of her tears. "Not they, they didn't take her. He did. Castor." She spat out the name as if it was poison, and in a manner of speaking it was, at least in her opinion. Fingers balled into a fist and she looked away from the General-King, anger in her eyes. She'd kill Castor if it was the death of her.

“Quite alright.” He said in a slightly strained tone of voice as he fought not to sound too relieved that he’d been released from the ‘public’ display of affection that had dampened his shoulder. “More than enough layers between me and a little dampness anyhow.” He said trying to make at least a little light of it, and the layers of clothing he wore in uniform.

Her words made thin creases appear at the corners of his eyes, if temper could have made the power he gave off roil like flames it would have. Castor, the name was an irritation, an abrasion on his psyche that made his teeth grit. He was at once something that should be –beneath- notice, a double standard shallow petty ‘man’ whom had taken from them a precious thing, but at the same time he was the bitter needle that stuck under the fingernails of the Negaverse, an mouthy irritation, the first ‘prince’ among senshi for what that was worth.

“One day, Castor will get everything that he deserves.” He replied through gritted teeth. “That at least I can offer you “One day we will remove the irritating thorn that he is from the very universe itself, I think he would make a fine Youma if we cracked his star seed, let all that pain drag him slowly down and wash away what he was and then feed him to the others. “

Irritated with the thief who had taken Linarite from them? Not Zinkenite, well… perhaps a small grudge.

Her eyes narrowed and she turned towards him, forgetting her place as she glared at the General-King. "That fate is too good for him. He doesn't deserve the effort it would take to accomplish such a thing." Already one to hold grudges, Petalite had no pause when she said such things. What Castor had done, what Castor had taken from her, from them. It was unforgivable and the Captain had no mercy for him. "Corrupt him, use him as a show of our strength, and then kill him." While simply killing him would come to the same ends, and Petalite would have no problem skipping the other steps and doing just that if she ever had the chance, if the General-King were to get his hands on the Prince he'd be better off used to teach the senshi a lesson. In the case of Castor she thought torture was more effort than it was worth, there was no way to make him feel the pain he cause short of killing Lina in front of him, and that was something she wouldn't stand for.

She paced the room, still seething, the heels of her boots making a clipped sound against the stone. Coming to a stop in front of the table she slammed her fist down, wincing at the impact. For all her plans and words, it didn't matter. She was only a Captain, she didn't have the power she needed to take him on. Her laugh was hollow, and she looked up at Zinkenite, some of the anger leaving her eyes, but her stare was just as intent. "I apologize for speaking out of turn," Her words were clipped, but the pain that shot up her arm when she punched the table had snapped a bit of sense back into her. "I don't have the power to take him down, so of course his end punishment will be in your hands." She hated admitting that she wasn't strong enough to do anything.

“It’s not as much effort as one might think.” He said quietly, an odd sort of ‘knowing’ in his words, a somber dark edge that resonated with the things that shifted and watched in strange corners down here in the Rift. He had a very good idea of what it took to become that, and how much it hurt as well, but the fate of castor was in more hands than simply his own weather he wanted to admit it or not.

“You’ll be General one day Petalite, don’t give up hopes that you won’t be part of his ultimate end.” It wasn’t pandering or lip service, if they found a solid plan he would do what he could to give her some part in that, if only because of what loosing Lina had done to her. “The hardest task before all of us, is patience, but in the end it will be worth it, in the end it is our greatest asset, as much our strength as our unity.”
PostPosted: Sun Dec 04, 2011 10:30 am

Petalite's fist was slowly lifted from the table, an action she didn't even realize she was making. Her uninjured hand reaching across her body to rub her knuckles lightly. If she hadn't been a Captain they would have bruised from the force of impact, but as it was they would just sting for a few minutes before the pain faded away.

Zinkenite's words didn't quite console her, but she recognized what he was vaguely promising her. She nodded sharply her hands falling to her sides. "You're right, as much as I would love to chase him down and beat him, doing so now would only end in the Negaverse losing another." Her lips pursed and she turned from the General King to stare out the large window.

After a moment she turned back to him. "Thank you, for talking with me. It's...helped." The ache in her chest was still there, but some of her anger had diffused and she no longer felt quite as hopeless as she had that morning.

“With Rare exception my door will be open to you Petalite, please consider that if ever you need someone to speak to. I would not see you lost to us, and I do believe things will be changing, soon, for the better.”
PostPosted: Tue Dec 06, 2011 1:35 pm

Petalite nodded at the General-King's words. It was a small comfort to know that there were still people she could speak to. It had been just her and Blake for so long she was beginning to forget what it was like to have a friend. Not that she ever had all that many to begin with. Just Audrey, but she was gone now.

Turning away from Zinkenite she left the room, the click of her boot heels following her out the door.
