Sighing heavily the young lion lifted one paw and peered under it at the dusty, dry pad and the rather large thorn that was lodged between his toes. "It seems no matter how far I wander, all I find is dust and prickly pears...." Wrinkling his nose he gave his foot an offended look and gingerly set it down. Yet as soon as he tried to put his weight on it he hissed and limped forwards a pace.

"Ugh." Grumbling he plopped his butt down on the ground and lifted his injured paw again, sniffing at it as it throbbed sharply. Letting his body slide down till he was resting on his belly in the middle of the path, he curled his foreleg close and started to gnaw at the pad, trying to grab the painful prickle and pull it out. Yet attempts were hampered not only by the fact that his teeth were made for ripping apart meat, not pulling tiny thorns from flesh, and that he seemed particularly clumsy in his efforts, often times catching his claw rather than the thorn and only after tugging at it did he realise it was a part of him and not the foreign object he was after.

It wasn't unusual for this particular female to be out on her own. Even as a cub, she preferred to be by her lonesome. It wasn't from a lack of dislike of others, surely not, it was more of a matter of anxiety. Despite her beauty, Forouza was painfully shy, especially around others. She was quiet, thoughtful, a bit of a daydreamer, but constantly worried about how others saw her.

She wanted to do her father and pride proud, but . . . it seemed to be slow going. She was still under Anwar's care, and while she loved her father, mother, and the rest of his banu she also worried that perhaps she was becoming a burden. Was there something wrong with her? Why hadn't any Pad stepped forward to claim her as his own? Furthermore, why hadn't Anwar given her away?

These thoughts weighted heavy on her mind as she stepped near the border of the pride. She knew there were dangers out in the rogue lands, and she tried to be cautious, but . . . sometimes she just needed to get away. To go where there weren't judgmental eyes (or so she believed) and reminders of how much of a failure she was becoming. Somewhere where she could forget about her fears and just enjoy the shadows, the grasses, and the wind. Somewhere she could daydream and . . forget about life for awhile.

Lost in her own world, she almost overlooked the adolescent before her. He blended in to the scenery quite well, reminiscent of dust. If it weren't for the red splotches, she might have missed him completely!

Pausing in her walk, ears pricked forward, she watched as he chewed on his paw. Part of her knew she shouldn't bother him, as he was a male (albeit he looked familiar and she knew him to be of the pride); but . . . the way he kept chewing, and biting. "Forgive the intrusion, Pad." Her voice was quiet, hardly above a whisper, with just a touch anxiety mixed in it. She knew she was speaking out of turn, but she also didn't want him to go unaided or unattended. She wasn't terribly older than the other, but also didn't want him to think her disrespectful. "Are you . . quite all right?"

She kept her gaze averted, and didn't advance too close. Forouza hoped he wasn't offended by her words, and wouldn't go back to Anwar if she indeed was speaking out of place.

As oft absent minded as he was, the young adolescent never heard her approach, intent on the pain in his paw. The sudden soft voice behind him made him jump, head lifting to peer round at her in surprise. Blinking he seemed to take a moment to gather himself before standing with a light, slightly embarrassed chuckle and dipping his head to her politely. "Greetings banu....." He squinted, recognizing her from the pride but for a moment her name wouldn't come to him. But then in a flash it did. He had heard her being called once and seen the glimpse of her beautiful lightening-stripped pelt as she had dashed past. "Forouza." Smiling, pleased that he had been able to remember her name, he belatedly realised she had asked a question of him. Having been stood with his sore paw in the air, he glanced down at the offending limb, then waved it about. "I have a thorn that seems to prefer resting in my flesh than being in its place on the bush... it will not let me go." Sheepishly he bit at his paw again, for the pain was really quite annoying.

Lifting his head back again he blinked at her, realizing she was indeed pride and that meant he had wandered all the way back home. Well drat. He was supposed to be on his banu hunt, to find a rogue female to come back with him, but so far all he had managed to gather was dust and prickly spikes, and had seemingly come back home on his own, alone.

((Just a minor note, her cert is spelled wrong and I didn't want to bother them to change it. Her name is actually Forouza. ^_^ ))

The black and white pawed lioness was only slightly older then the adolescent before her. She knew full well that he should be on his hunt for a banu, and a look around made her wonder if perhaps he was keeping his chosen in hiding. . . or maybe he was still on the hunt itself! She was awfully close to the borders, and knew she'd be in trouble if she roamed too far away. Thankfully though, the lands were quiet and seemingly dead, outside of the dusty coated lion before her. They were very much so alone.

Though it was considered a bit of a crime to return to the pride without a banu in tow, Abel was in good company. Forouza would never say a word about his indiscretion to anyone, and certainly had no reason to. What he did with his time was his own choice, and she wasn't one to judge or say a thing. What did she know about the outside world, anyway? Not a whole lot outside of the stories she heard. . . . She couldn't imagine ever having to go out and find a mate all alone, with no pride to fall back on.

Of course, she couldn't rightly find a mate at this stage of the game herself, so how on earth would she find one in a land of strangers!? Oh no, Forouza knew her place and knew it well. She would not do well in a pride outside of the Ukuucha'wafalme.

As Abel spoke of his woes, she winced as he admitted his injury. Unfortunately though, it was likely the lion was at the wrong angle to pull out the nasty thorn. How many times had she had to help one of his siblings get free of a prickly pears bite, or hold back tears as her own mother had to tend to her own wayward lessons? Ears pinning a bit, glancing shyly away, she practically folded in front of him.

"Perhaps you might let me aid you? I have a feeling I may be at a better angle to rid your paw of its thorn, if. . . if you might not mind my help." She didn't want him to think she thought him unable to care for himself, she just knew the sort of pain a thorn could cause. Especially in ones foot!

Her offer distracted him from yet another attempt on the thorn in his paw. Looking up, his expression one of intense relief, he nodded. "If you don't mind trying.. I would appreciate it. The wretched thing is getting more painful each time and I fear I may be making it worse..." Wrinkling his nose at his painful paw he gave her a grateful smile. "Umm.. I guess it would be easier if I laid down..." Glancing about, feeling rather awkward and a little uncertain if stretching out on his side in front of her was against some nuance of politeness or something, he figured there really was no other way of getting his paw into the correct position for her.

After a moment of awkward hesitation, he lowered his solid body to the ground and rolled over onto his side. His furred head flopping against the dusty earth. Tail curling hesitantly he blinked up at her, his injured paw stretched out, pads to the sky, for her to look at.

The young banu said nothing as the other readjusted himself. She was grateful that he didn't look upon her fussing as improper or indecent. Forouza herself didn't want to find herself stuck with a bad reputation, especially in front of such a young Pad! She knew she wasn't getting any younger, though she also didn't understand why she had no prospects for that matter. . . .

Well, it wasn't up to her when it came to these sorts of things. It was up to her father to agree to let her go, or for him to pick a mate for her. She knew better than to question his word, or to question any Pad for that matter. Their word was law, and she trusted their ideas implicitly. If she was without a proper Pad, than that was how it was to be. . . .

Quietly, the young lioness studied his paw that he held out for her. The thorn looked to be stuck rather deep, especially with how much he had been walking upon it. Still, while it would be painful to dig out with her teeth, if she could just grasp it to pull it out, the pain would subside with time and healing could begin. "I apologize this. . . this might hurt." She gave him an apologetic look, red eyes shadowed by what she knew would be an uncomfortable experience. "Just hold still," she requested, before she reached over and attempted to extract the thorn.

It did take a little digging, but thankfully the other had larger paws than her own, and Forouza herself was a delicate little thing. It made fishing for thorns with her teeth much easier, especially with his paw sprawled up in such a manner. If she were lucky, she could get a grip on its base and pull it out in one go. . .

((I'll leave it up to you whether or not she fishes it out this time or not. x D))

She needn't have worried, Able was not the kind of male who blabbed bad things about other lions, nor was he one to think them either. she had done nothing to earn them, rather, she was assisting him when he was in pain and he would always be grateful for her kindness. Especially as the help he needed was both intimate and a little gross, considering he had been walking across the savannah for weeks, and who knew what state his paws were in. All he knew was that it was incredibly painful and his own efforts had got him exactly nowhere.

As she dug her teeth into his tender paw he closed his eyes and stretched his head back, swallowing the growl that wanted free along with the urge to jerk his paw away. He had asked for her help, the lest he could do was lie quietly for her. Suddenly he felt a sharp stab of agony deeper in his flesh as the thorn jerked, making him grit his teeth. "Nearly got it..." He managed to mumble, tail flicking against his flank as he spread his toes, trying to give her better access to the irritating piece of plant-life.

Forouza continued to dig at this paw. She cringed a bit when she felt the other stiffen, and she was certain he was in a lot of pain. But it had to be done! If the thorn wasn't removed, it might get infected, or worse, cause him to grow sick. Open wounds could be fatal, especially wounds that were continuously aggravated by a source.

The sooner she got the stick out, the sooner he would start to heal! So she had to aggravate the wound in hopes of getting out the pesky thorn. She gave a small grunt, trying to maneuver her jaw carefully around the swollen and sore paw. It really was rather gross, but it was for his benefit, and Forouza just couldn't let him continue on his way without trying to help.

Finally, she twisted her head in such a way that she find her small, front teeth clamp down on something solid. Something solid that wasn't part of his paw. She knew it was going to hurt, but she didn't dare risk losing the thorn or having it break. With a quick pull, she jerked back in hopes of taking the thorn with her!

((Totally up to you on whether she succeeds or not! xD Poor Abel. And sorry for the short post too. There wasn't a ton she could do in this scene. :3 ))
