Marcus wasn’t exactly settled with what he considered to be bullshit answers from Caelius. When he first heard them okay, fine, more than he had expected. But after stewing on it, things just didn’t settle. How would a hunter had have their weapon taken? How come none of them noticed it? Was the real Aria even alive? Was there even a real Aria? What just had happened to that halloweener? Questions compounded one after the other and it got him nowhere. If Aria was a traitor, she was going to be executed, (gross), but what if she wasn’t? What if she had been taken captive? Killed? They didn’t know if she was alive yet apparently. What was this about twin weapons? Did that mean they might be able to find her? Or what was left of her, (also gross). And just what was that soul harvester?

Going to the good Doctor’s office, Marcus hoped that by showing up that wasn’t going to make him the next volunteer for some science project. He’d leave that to Dr.H’s assistant, (the poor soul). But aside from his questions there was also an idea. He’d thought about it but wasn’t sure just if it would work or was even viable. But hey, anything to get ride of the monsters right?
Taking a deep breath Marcus entered the room tentatively calling out, “Dr. H? Clarice?” He hoped somebody was here. And not looking for a test subject.

The chair at the desk spun, revealing a blonde woman that was probably not Dr. H. Hopefully. "Oh, hey Mar...Marcel, right? I didn't realize you were scheduled for the labs today." She began flipping through her clipboard, behind her what looked to be a video game was running on a rather eccentric looking computer. Without looking up she continued, "I don't see you here...oh wait, is this..."she glanced up and gave the man an exasperated look, "...is this about condoms?"

The first few months, a lot of trainees were still in a bit of shell-shocked stranger in a strange land state, but once they had their first real mission? Like bunnies. Or teenagers on a remote island, which was fair enough, really.

The moon trainee frowned at the mistake of his name. He was sure he was not a Marcel. Did he look like a Marcel, (he hoped he didn’t)? And no, he was most definitely not scheduled for labs now, or hopefully ever. "Marcus, Marcus Hasan and wait what?" His face burst into a lovely shade of pink. He did not come here to ask about condoms. Just because he was dating (sort of) didn't mean he- Yeah no. "No. To add onto that a most definite hell no. I came here to ask about our last mission, mostly about the impostor Aria, and the soul harvester."

He wasn't sure to relax or be on his toes around her really. She was Dr.H's assistant. While not the doctor, she was his assistant and that in itself was a bit daunting. "I asked about it and Caelius gave up a really really edited sparknotes version of Aria. If she's a traitor she'll be publicly executed." That stuck with him a bit. "He also said her weapon was a part of a set, a twin. He gave a bit of info we didn't know but at the same time, a lot was left unanswered. How come none of us picked it up? And for just how long? The fact we all seemed to have missed it.."

She lifted her eyebrows at the trainee's denial, and then began digging around in a desk drawer as he continued talking. At the mention of Aria, the corners of her lips turned decidedly down, she only glanced up at him for a moment though, before going back to the drawer, scowling. While they hadn't been BFFs and the other woman's interactions with her boss had led to numerous headaches and clean-ups for Clarice...she'd always had something of a girlcrush on Aria. The dead-not-dead-traitor-but-not speculation revolving around the Mist Hunter had left her feeling a bit touchy on the subject. The ultimately incorrect but still lingering nightmares featuring Aria chewing off her own arm didn't exactly help matters.

Finally, she found what she was looking for, and pulled out several foil wrappers. making sure to check the date first, the assistant placed them on the desk. "Take some anyways. Hunters have more than their fair share of near-death experiences, and humans throughout the ages have shown some pretty specific and popular coping mechanisms for such. If you lose those or run out, you can pick more up at any of the infirmary stations."

She tapped out a beat on the desk and considered the rest of his questions, some of which she simply didn't know the answer to. With a sigh, she began, "As far as the Soul Harvester goes...she would have been a weapon on par with Excalibur or Merlin. A total nuke. And thus...our failure? Not entirely unexpected. Galling, yes. Hard on our superiors' egos? Even moreso. The fact that we were able to hold and weaken her to such a degree is actually a pretty big step forward for us. The last mission is pretty easy to see as a failure, but keep in mind that we've only recently began to have any successes at all. A decade ago? No hunter would have come back from that alive, let alone trainees. So try not get to down about that, 'kay? For the rest, we're dealing with magic. How is it possible isn't so much the issue, because lots of s**t it possible that shouldn't be, right?"

She paused and leaned forward, "The real question is what can we do to make sure it doesn't happen again? And we've been handling that one, so don't worry about changelings creeping in your windows, snatching your people up. We got this."

Okay, even though she apparently wanted him to get condoms, (she meant well at least), Marcus couldn't help but try to stifle a chuckle as she talked about the egos. "Uh-" Picked up the packets he pocketed them. No point in arguing. "Thanks. And Judging by how Caelius was acting it seemed like we should have gotten it. So, that's a bit comforting. The fact we're progressing not... our failure that is. Does anyone know yet the status of Aria what became of her, if she ever existed? Or is it still to soon to tell?"

Leaning against the wall, Marcus's arm crossed, trying to think. "That aside... I there a way to condense insanity?" If there was, awesome. If not. Oh well, better luck next time. Maybe.

"With Aria...it really is too soon. I'd advise against idle speculation concerning her." The look Clarice gave him was not outright hostile, but it wasn't very pleased with his questions concerning the Mist leader, either. But the following question left a little surprised, "They've started discussing Insanity with you guys? Well I guess it makes sense, considering what I've read from the reports but..." she paused wondering how best to phrase this without it turning into a full blown lecture. "Condensing Insanity has been briefly considered, but doing so would result in an Insane Weapon. At best it would be useless, at worst...well. You saw what happened, right? When those creatures become infected with it? It's a risk with too little payoff. The Fog has its uses in its current form, but..."

Oh there was that lecturing thing again. The thing she wanted to avoid here.

"Anyways, if you're truly interested in the R&D aspects of Deus Ex, I can sign you up for a few sessions helping in the labs?"

"It was mentioned briefly." He shrugged. "I wasn't thinking like a weapon, I was thinking more like... a bomb. Or if not that, then FEAR. Could there be some way to manipulate FEAR to create a poison? That sort of thing. Take them out from the inside. But that would be kind of cool." Pausing, he thought. "Wait, that doesn't mean I have to become a test subject does it? I am interested in the process as a whole, but not so much playing lab rat."

He wasn't about to let himself get killed for kicks. Not if he could help it.

She tilted her head a bit and considered what he was saying, "I see where you're trying to go with this, and we do have a few projects that try to harness or manipulate FEAR in various ways, and some of them are indeed for combat." She gestured to the computer briefly, "We also use it as an alternative power supply where possible. Poisons...we're cautious about. What can affect Halloween, can also affect our own weapons. But..." she paused and looked him in the eye.

"Our official goal isn't to take them out of anything other than the human...our world. These are creatures spawned from our own emotions. As long as human beings are capable of feeling fear, they'll continue spawning and empowering creatures from that energy. This isn't...this isn't something that we can win the total annihilation of those creatures its..." she touched the heavy metal cuff on wrist, and gave Hraegar the mental equivalent of a hug, "...it's something won through cooperation."

Clarice made a face, "I...really didn't mean to get into all that. You'll come to your own conclusions soon enough. If you decide to try some lab work, well, you may end up playing lab rat, but more likely you'll just get to play grunt and janitor instead."

She had a point a very very good point he’d never considered. Humans always had a fear of one thing or another. It made sense that they would never be able to get rid of them. Still- “Getting rid of them from the human world… Seems like we’d need more people than just those of us here on an island.” They had a whole world to cover after all. Still, he’d never thought about the fact that humans made them and thus… it kind of would be a giant cycle then wouldn’t it?

Grunt work didn’t seem to be an uncommon theme, but then, he was considered a trainee, it seemed only natural they would be low rung. “It makes sense though. We have to take calculated risks, and from that, asses what’s best. As for grunt work, that’s not the worst thing. Same with janitorial. But now you mention co-operation... When we turn them into weapons, do they just…agree with us? Dr. H showed us Merlin who more or less wanted to bust our s**t up. But then you had Excalibur who is pretty much making sure we can do what we do.” Dis was remaining quite in his head, not even making a jab at Marcus’s curiosity. “Just how many creatures like the Soul harvester exist that we know about and even if we had captured it… would it have helped us?”

He sighed. "Sorry. I came here with just a few questions, but I feel like if I don't ask, I'll never find out."

Resting her chin on her hand, Clarice sighed, "We gather as many people as we can, your lot was actually the largest group of candidates we've been able to bring in since...well, ever. Like I said, we're gaining ground, you know? It's a matter of both finding candidates, and having enough Weapons on hand to ensure that at least some of them will be able to wake and bond with a candidate. And no, not all weapons agree right away. They're people in their own way, and people...they don't always agree."

She drummed her fingers on the clipboard for a moment, and then continued, "Creatures like the Harvester...we honestly don't know. They're the kind of beings that you can have suspicions about, but you can't be sure until they're breathing down your neck, altering reality, and melting your brain out your ears...personally, I'd rather avoid tracking down anymore of them."

The apology caused her to quirk her mouth a bit, "Better to ask now than in the middle of a mission."

He couldn’t fault her for not wanting to find more like the Soul Harvester. It seemed a bit overkill, (well that and Marcus was a touch freaked out by the whole thing). Overall, he might not have the best answers, but, in comparison to what he could have gotten, it was actually okay for him. “That’s about all the questions I can think of. Besides the obvious ones like ‘Is Dr. H seriously that sadistic?’ and oh wait.” He smiled. “One last question, just what was up with Caelius’s hair the other day? I know about the battle but that was just flat out BAD. He looked like he got into a fight with a pair of hedge clippers and they won.”

He actually did want to know in a way. Most since it was kind of amusing to see the normally pompous death hunter that out of it.

She smiled, "The doctor really just is that sadistic. Have a nice day, trainee."

He smiled and nodded, pushing off of the wall. "Thanks. And you to. I'll check back in for the duties sometimes this week maybe." A shrug. "It might be fun, even if it's grunt work." Heading out the door, Marcus felt marginally better. While some questions were still up in the air, he got other information, and that was pretty good, and the fact he hadn't run into the Doctor... was pretty good to.
