Having joined the negaverse only a short while ago, Lacie was surprised to see that her daily life would not be altered much. Everything had changed yet nothing was changed. It was an ironic contradiction. But life continued, and Lacie had as well. She now woke up with the knowledge of the burden she had chosen to take on, of the senshi and negaverse, of the hidden war that had been fought beneath the undercurrents of daily life. She worked at a cafe, popular for their desserts and drinks. They offered a variety of tables, single, pair, or group tables that served all kinds of clientele. Their cafe had high standards, for both workers and their products offered, making them a popular store among Destiny City. Tying her silver hair into pigtails for the day, her blue eyes stared at her from the mirror. Regardless of how she felt, it was time for work. Drawing the ribbon on her uniform that resembled this, Lacie summoned the strength to smile. "How may I help you today?"

He set a book carefully onto the table, minerals and their many forms, squaring it up against the edge of the table with a curious precision before glancing up at her with a ‘meaningful’ stare, or what was intended to be such. His eyes were similar to her own, a frosty colder blue, washed out almost beneath the indigo bangs that half obscured his face. “I was looking for a chess partner, I heard from a reliable source that you’d be someone good to ask for.” He tapped the cover of the book lightly and then almost distractedly flipped to a folded page. It showed a bright blue stone, a feathery almost needle like composition. Serpi---- could just be read from under the press of his thumb before he removed his hand and let the thick paperback close itself again with a small shrug.
“I wasn’t sure if you were free though, I can wait if you prefer.” He blinked at her almost owlishly, intense though his face was younger, perhaps 16 or 17. He already had the slight hint of future scowl lines faintly between his brows. “I’m simply hoping we can talk strategy, I might be able to share a few things to help your ‘game’.” He offered a very slightly smile that should have been warm but somehow looked just a little, well, dark.

Lacie had to admit that she was certainly confused when he first approached her. Her gaze probably looked something like this: i_____i It wouldn't be the first nor the last time that Lacie would encounter strange people. Especially if they were customers. But between Tanzanite and Hiro, the young waitress found his presence a normality. "You think much too highly of me. I am merely a waitress-" Her words were cut off, her gaze was drawn to the stone, the deliberate action, a color remarkably similar to her eyes, and she met his stare with an even stare of her own. She had been aware that there were other team members, members she had yet to meet. And he was one of them. "..All right." She agreed, so softly that only he could hear her. Despite his words and smile, she wasn't aware she had a choice in the matter.
She recovered her smile, holding a hand to the left. "Let me show you to a private table sir." Standing up, hugging a platter to her chest, she waited for him to follow her.
Glancing at her co-worker with a gaze of silent communication, they nodded to affirm her absence. Leading him into one of the few private rooms they offered, she courteously waited for him to enter before closing the door behind him.
A platter had already been prepared for them, Lacie simply having to assemble the pieces. "May I get you some coffee? Juice? Tea? Before we begin."
"After all, this may take some time." Now that she was hidden from the public attention of her co-workers, cafe, and customers, she took the time to examine the blue-hair male carefully. He couldn't have been older than her. In fact, he must have been younger. Yet..

“Tea would be lovely.” He said almost automatically and then paused. “But whatever you’d like as well, it would be rude not to at least offer to share.” He made his way to a seat and sat carefully at first as though he were ready to move again at a moments notice but then shifted and seemed at least to relax slightly. He lifted the book again and turned in a page before silently handing it to her, a metallic silvery stone formed much like the bright teal blue of her own ‘namesake’, needles and sharp edges. Zinkenite it read at the top of the page before listing the associated properties of the stone. A rather quite introduction that could have passed as nothing more than a hobby if they needed it to be that for prying eyes.
“If it’s inconvenient, I can schedule a different meeting.” He offered, glancing her over as though he were trying to pull every detail from her that he could before she even spoke. “Zac’ He said offering a hand after a moment. Something offered up either out of legitimate friendliness or for people who might be listening in, hard to say. “I was curious about you, and I thought I might see if I could answer some questions regarding that project we seem to have in common.”
It seemed he was waiting for her to be sure that they weren’t being observed, and even then he might not speak freely. “Black or white?” he asked with a little bit of ‘predatory’ creeping into his smile at the chessboard.

"I prefer tea as well." Lacie was quick to smile to relieve Zac's anxiety. Pouring the tea into two delicate cups, she brought the platter to the table. There were little jars of honey, sugar, or mint for Zac's preferences. Taking a seat across from Zac, Lacie let herself look at the book. "Interesting." She remarked, her fingers laying upon the colored page.
"I'm fine." Lacie said, taking his hand. "My name is Lacie." Her fingers laced warmly with Zac's, looking already to be one of the friendlier people in the Negaverse. But the look in her eyes as she tilted her head up seemed to ask, 'But you already know that, don't you?' As he already knew her other identity, and her workplace, Lacie couldn't bring herself to believed that someone as informed as he was didn't already know her name. What else did he know?
"It's all right. We won't be overheard here. I've already locked the door." Since Lacie worked here, she would know.
His kindness surprised the young girl, her eyes slightly widening. She hadn't been expecting the help but it would certainly make things a great deal easier. "I do have some questions." She admitted, her fingers toying with her pigtails. "First of all, do I know the reliable source that you're referring to?"
The question of chess had her thoughtfully considering.the chess board. "Why not white?" She would concede black to her superior, "I'm afraid that I'm a bit inexperienced."

“I believe you know one of them at least.” He said in reply, which divided his ‘reliable resource’ into at least two people if not more. How many people knew? What kind of sources were there that took this information to whom and how fast? “I’m sorry that you couldn’t save him.” He said and picked up the tea, nothing to sweeten it yet, just tasted it and savored the flavors it offered before adding just a touch of mint to it.
He turned the chessboard so that the white pieces faced her and nodded carefully. “The best way to cure inexperience is to keep trying. I have a book I can recommend, but I’m afraid that my copy of it is rather abused, are you familiar with the pieces?” He waved a hand at the board but something about the way he asked, something about the look in his eyes hinted that the question might extend beyond the board between them.
“I could tell you something of the history of the game as well, it might be good to test my memory on such matters, but I should like to know what you’re already familiar with. I’d hate to make this dull.”

So he wouldn't answer her question? At least, not directly. "I'll accept that." She said with her customary smile. She picked up her cup of tea, stirring a spoonful of sugar and honey into the warm liquid. But when he brought up the topic of the life lost, Lacie couldn't help but look away. Of course he knew. Her fingers clenched the folds of her uniform in bitter reminder of her failure. There was an air to her that had become guarded and wary. It was not a subject that she could talk about yet.
Instead, she broached the other topic. "I know a bit." She rearranged the white chess pieces into the proper order, her fingers toying with one of the pawns afterwards while they spoke.
She stared at Zac, trying to ascertain his intentions. But she finally nodded, conveying to the general-kind that she was, for the moment, following along.
"Dull? I doubt you could make anything dull." Whether or not that it was a genuine, or merely a flirtatious comment by habit, it was clear that she thought well of Zac. His quiet and thoughtful manner, the type of person who thought before they spoke, was a person that Lacie could get along well with. She didn't foresee any problems between them in the near future. "As far as I know, both sides are engaged in a war. Unfortunately, their players -- or their purpose have yet to be explained to me."

“ I’m exceptionally good at talking too much.” He admitted in regards to the subject of ‘boring’, he at least recognized that he could go from broodingly quiet to pontificating at great length. “But I’ll do my best to make this make sense and be at least somewhat concise.” He reached out to tap one of the light pieces. “Best known, public, their name and their costumes caught by many on camera, the senshi. They use various kinds of what can only be called ‘magic’ to fuel these attacks. Some are more dangerous than others, there are resources available that record known senshi and their attacks, sometimes ways that they can be countered but it’s seldom practical given how quickly they can utilize those powers.” He rocked the piece slightly and tipped it over.
“Senshi, though they seem human are tied to other worlds entirely, reborn I think would be the best word for why their here. Their own worlds are…ruins. They’re happy enough to blame us for that, though without senshi we can’t leave earth. That along should say something about the nature of what we fight. They say they fight for love, for justice, I haven’t yet heard there was a level they wouldn’t, as a whole stoop to, though some are more easy to ‘deal’ with then others because their human morality hasn’t been utterly enveloped by whatever drives them. They search for their missing queen, Sailor Moon. It’s her who…” he paused.
“Have you been to the Dark Kingdom yet?” He asked pausing; it was an important piece of the lesson as a whole.

The older woman leaned back in her seat, bringing the cup of flavored tea to her lips to sip while she listened to Zac's explanation. When he explained his senshi, she picked up the queen, holding the chess piece up and dangled it between her fingers. "So she and her pawns are our enemy." Silently, she wondered of the senshi and the queen that they followed. Would she be similar to their queen? Her naive questions were surely due to her inexperience within the negaverse.. but she would soon learn in time.
Setting down the queen, her thoughts straying, trying to imagine the different levels of senshi that he mentioned. It was a great deal to consider, now knowing of the 'terrorists' as the senshi and negaversers. The existence of other worlds, and the lives previously lived, wasn't an idea that Lacie had ever given a thought to either. "The thought of previous lives are interesting, don't you think?" Lacie couldn't help but comment. "Does the possibility of past lives exist in the negaverse as well?
When he spoke of the dark kingdom, Lacie tilted her head. "No, I haven't." Leaning forward in her set, she placed her elbows on the desk, her fingers lacing together, and she rested her chin upon them. "What should I know about it?" She asked with a smile. At this point, she wasn't sure what to expect.
The storytime might as well continue.

“The most immediate chambers you will find upon entering are those where Queen Beryl dwells for the time being.” He nodded slightly, if dismissively at the word ‘Queen’ before continuing. “Be aware that anything you say in that place will likely make it back to her ears, or to the General Queens, or King’s ears.” There was a slight sideways glance towards the door as he spoke, a twitch at the corner of his mouth but whatever amused him was quickly pushed aside. “The queen is your greatest worry, so be mindful.”
He paused as he sipped his tea and formed the next words, the continued story of their strange safe haven. “There is now though, through recent events a great door, that door leads to ‘The Rift’, in that Rift lies what remains of the once great Earth Kingdom, in it dwell the youma. The first of them made by the Moon Queen Herself, punishment for not kneeling to her, for not accepting her seduction of the love blinded Earth Prince. Youma were once human, but they have lost all that made them human. They crave only energy to try and sooth what has become of their star seeds, an enteral hunger that is on par only with their hatred of senshi. They will take Energy where they can get it, less from us which allows us to visit so long as we are careful and respectful but they can and will kill anyone who is too foolish.”
He tapped his fingers on the table thinking and then traced a fingertip over the table. “The path down to the Earth Kingdom though, in the walls are trapped many other souls, souls once again bound there by the Moon Queen’s wicked magic, they have such a hatred for senshi that they will even take those who have sworn to serve with us, those whom have broken free of the magic that blinds them to reason. They will not draw you in, but as a Lieutenant you can not safely guide any Corrupted Senshi with you, you’ll need someone with a more powerful energy signature for help.”
He paused and met her eyes again to see if she had questions.

"That's terrible." Lacie's hand gripped the folds of the tablecloth, her other hand covering her mouth in shock. Her tea had been long-forgotten in the midst of Zac's words. Her gaze was cast downwards as if she was grasping for control for her emotions. "I understand what you're saying," And she knew that she couldn't do anything since these were events that were done long before she even existed. But to hear Zac talking calmly as if he was delivering the weather report rather than telling her that those monsters and trapped souls were former humans? "How can you simply talk about them as if they were nothing?"
"Is this just information to you?"
How many lives had been lost? How many people had been hurt? Lacie couldn't understand how the man sitting before her seemed to accept this without a reaction. Had he always been like that? Or had he changed? Part of her must have envied her superior's dispassionate nature, because perhaps if she were a bit more similar, she wouldn't be suffering as much -- but that was not Lacie. And she refused to accept it.

“No.” He said with his eyes darkening at the words. “But there are times when we have to be objective no matter how we feel.” He said setting his tea down carefully but firmly, mouth a thin line that spoke of emotions kept tightly under lock and key.
“It takes time, to turn it beyond a blind rage at the injustice that might make you careless, might make YOU the next youma they send to curl with us in the dark, but it will come.” He said his voice growing more even again as his eyes drifted down to his tea. He gazed down into it as though he could read some answer or secret there in the smattering of dark leaves that rested at the bottom of the cup. If it held some answer for him though it was a leafy obscurity to anyone else when he raised his eyes and his cup again.
“I promise I have every ‘appreciation’ for what the Youma have suffered, for what was taken from them. If ever their precious moon queen falls into our hands I’d as soon rip out her star seed as I would see her turned into a youma herself so she would know what she took away from those who dared disagree with her and hers.” His words were a dark fire, so hot they felt like ice, a razors edge that didn’t sting till it had already done its work.
“I’m just trying to make sure you’re prepared, I don’t often get the chance to spend this time with new recruits, even ones I have drawn into this.”

With his words, Lacie realized her mistake. It was clear that Zac, despite his composed manner, did not accept this as placidly as Lacie had assumed. But even so, there was no excuse for her to lash out towards somebody else nor to assume their feelings. "..I'm sorry." Lacie sat down once more. "I'm sorry for accusing you. That was not my place nor my intention."
"I didn't mean to," Her hands brushed back stray locks of hair, "and I shouldn't have." The events were taking a toll upon her and with the depth of information that Zac conveyed, Lacie was torn between herself and her emotions. But she wasn't the only one who was suffering or had suffered -- Lacie finding it likely that this officer who sat before her had gone through a great deal of struggle himself.
And yet, she had only blamed him even as he took the time to prepare her. She couldn't stay like this. Taking one of Zac's hand in her own, "I'm thankful to you for taking the time to explain everything!" And she genuinely smiled, a glimpse of who she was before Antimonite's death showing through. Letting go of his hand, "Please continue." She wouldn't act so irresponsibly again, Zac's words seeming to have calmed her senses.

“Don’t be sorry, you didn’t know and I’m aware I can seem callous.” He said dipping his head slightly in his own apology. He blinked down at the hand that took his own as though it were a strange thing, but did not remove his own from her hand. “Did you have other questions?” He asked after a moment’s pause and reflection. “There are things I’m sure I’m forgetting if only because it’s been what seems a long time since I was a Lieutenant. I’m sure there are things that I’m taking for grated knowing about.”
He paused again and tilted his head before explaining. “I don’t believe that anything is ‘just’ information, I collect it, if you ever need, we’re collecting information, information on senshi, on recruits, the better we know strengths and weaknesses on both sides the better we will be able to combat the senshi as a whole. They outnumber us, but to date there has only been one truly organized team of them, at least that posed any great threat, and they or at least a few of them saw the error of their ways. They haven’t apologized as such, but they are proud. They are our allies now, the few who have seen the light.”

"I look forward to meeting my allies then." Other negaversers, corrupted senshi, and the Dark Moon Senshi.. there were a great deal of people that Lacie would like, dislike, or possibly even hate. But then again, that was part of life, right? Otherwise, it was no fun.
"What is my role in the war?" She leaned back in her seat. "I assume that we must defeat the senshi. But since you haven't yet elaborated on the manner, it must be safe to assume that the manner may be left to my discretion?" Beneath her manners and grace, there was a darker side to the girl sitting before the General-King. A capricious nature where Lacie was best left unrestrained, her abilities only hindered by and suffering beneath constraints. She would only act as she was pleased, not always as she was ordered. "And what do my other duties entail as a lieutenant?" Lacie refused to use the excuse of ignorance, and she would never plead to 'not knowing' as it was her lack of knowledge in the first place that had led to the death of another. She wouldn't repeat her mistake. But she also agreed with Zac's reasoning as a whole. Information could easily become a weapon, an advantage in battle. One could never employ too many weapons.
And speaking of weapons.. Lacie approached an issue that she had been meaning to ask for some time now. ".. And why do I have a wooden sword?" Her last question accurately portraying her bemusement. "While I don't harbor any great expectations.. I'm afraid that that this isn't one of them." Lacie had never been a sword-wielder, nor had she expected to wield one in her entire life. So to have one now certainly puzzled the young girl.
