Micah was bored. Beyond bored, actually. Micah was numb with boredom. Did nothing happen in the Podunk little town? No concerts, no real museums, at least none that she knew about, and no one she knew. Of course the later was to be expected. Micah was, after all, the new girl in town. Though you wouldn’t know it by looking at the people around her. It was like they all had something better to do than notice a new family moving in. Normally it’s at least the talk of the block. Who’s moving in down there? Not one whisper, however. It was beginning to piss her off. She wasn’t a diva, far from it. But still, she would have liked to be noticed. The fact that no one had yet made her ornery. As she sat, visibly pouting on the park bench, Micah found herself irritated with small things. Why did that jogging b***h just pass in front of her? She’s lost count of all the blue cars. b***h. Probably off to do b***h things. b***h.

A cry from her left made Micah turn her head. A child had fallen off a swing set. In her horrible mood, it brought a wicked smile to Micah’s face. Just let the kid lie, it’s good character building. No one ever picked Micah up. A lie, Micah had been coddled all her life. That was why she was about as mature as an eleven year old when it came to matters like these. Still, the mother came to pick the child up and comfort them, destroying Micah moment of pleasure. Did no one want her to be happy? b***h mom. Doing b***h mom things. That kid was going to grow up to be a gutless b***h. b***h. This was a direct assault on Micah’s mood. Everyone was out to get her today. She almost screamed at the car alarm that went off, scaring her witless. She might have actually began to before she lost the will to expend that much energy. b***h car. b***h alarm. b***h.

Nathan Darrow was returning to form today. He hadn't been to the park for one of his bullying sessions in some time, probably because he had tipped off the cops to keep looking for him, but mostly because he had a lot of senshi work calling his attention.

But all work and no play made Nate grumpy and boring.

The Senshi of Danger didn't like being either of those things, though grumpy was often his status of choice. There was a difference, though, in being obstinate and combative for the hell of it, and actually feeling angry and pent up. He needed a way to vent that tension, and his paint ball gun was the best thing for it.

Fully loaded with a multitude of colored pellets, he walked through the park with the thing resting against his shoulder. He was in his civilian form, of course, and not bothering to hide himself at all. He looked around for a target and saw a girl sitting on a park bench.

Awesome.

He leveled his gun at her, but out of the corner of his eye he saw someone watching him and he grunted, noticing their 'I'm going to call the cops, I think that's a real gun because I'm an idiot' expression. He moved to the bench and parked himself down next to Micah as if he knew her.

"Yo," he said to his former, and still potential, target.

Micah didn't start when Nathan sat down next to her. Instead she turned to face him, lips pinched in a thin line, eyes swimming toxic yellow. It was dangerous to get so close to her when she was in this state. What should she do? From the look of the person the boy was trying to evade, Micah could probably scream and get herself a good show. Her eyes fell to his paint ball gun and her pulse quickened with aggravation. He dared to target her? Micah pulled a face of disgust and straightened her back, curling her lips against her teeth.

"What are you, twelve? Carrying that toy around like it something to be feared. Like you're something to be feared." She tossed her tangled mane over her shoulder. "Give me one good reason why I shouldn't make a scene. Based on the looks of everyone around us," Micah leaned in dangerously, "I could probably get you into a fair bit of trouble." A wicked smile slid over her lips as she finished, beginning to fill her lungs with air.

"Yeah, I'm twelve, my hormones have always been over active," he said, looking at her with a bland expression and pretending to be serious. But not really. He was tall and had a goatee, of course, and was referencing those facts when he let his sarcasm escape.

It didn't matter. If they were talking, they were friends. He just had to wait out the person with the phone, who was watching them skeptically. What was with people? They should just mind their own business, and not try to do good. If there were a monster around here, he would bet that not a damn one of the people in the park that day would be so keen on trying to help.

They were all the same, in the end. they only wanted to look brave and useful when it was easy.

He watched her when she threatened to make a scene, not looking too keen on the idea himself. He shook his head to emphasize that.

"Now why would you do that? I haven't done anything to you. Here I was, sitting next to you because I was interested in talking, wanted to get to know you. You know. Thought your hair was pretty and all that. Classic nice guy stuff. And you just want to get me in trouble."

As she looked like she was readying to yell, Nate moved his hand and poked her with purpose in the stomach. It was a quick movement, but it looked playful, particularly with the way they were both grinning.

So her own sarcasm was lost on the fellow. Those with looks were always idiots in the end. Only twelve year old toted around weapons like his and tried to target out innocents. His remark rolls off of her shoulder like the snowballs they were. Instead she only let her lips quirk into a small smile, eyes glittering mischievously. Her eyes flickered around the park as he looked around. Her eyes locked with the individual who had clearly spooked this man into sitting with her. Micah was not a smart woman, not by a long shot. She was rash and angry and never thought before she acted. But she could put two and two together. This boy had targeted her with that stupid little gun, intent on splattering her with brightly colored paint and ruining her favorite blouse. The person yards away had seen and done something, probably involving some authority figure. This having spooked the boy as well as the fact that someone had gotten involved so quickly told Micah that this was not his first offense.

As his finger jabbed her stomach Micah's breath left her in a puff of air and a squeal. That hurt. Her arm reacted on it's own, pulling back in it's usual horrible form and jabbing his sharply in the arm. Her knuckles hurt. As she rubbed them Micah looked up at the boy through her lashes angrily. He'd touched her. No one was allowed to touch Micah. No one ever at all. Even her twin had certain rules to follow when he touched her. And that was her twin. Now some stranger had laid hands on her. The blood rushed to Micah's face as her temper threatened to erupt.

"Why would I do that," Micah hissed, leaning in dangerously. "Because I don't respond well to intimidation, it makes me feel icky. Beyond that, l am no fool. She looked Nate up and down. "You're not the type to do such things anyway. Gentleman don't tote around paint ball guns and sit down casually next to strange girls. Do you even know if I'm of legal age yet? What if you just touched a minor? After all, sexual harassment is in the eye of the beholder. You touched my stomach, but suddenly the police thing it was much more nefarious." Micah leaned back again, taking a deep breath through her nose to calm herself down. "Give me a good reason why I should not give everyone here a reason to call the police."

"Hey, no punching!" He laughed, though that had stung. She had no form, he thought, but she had some strength at least. He wondered how often she punched things, or tried to. "And you're going to break your own hand, hitting that way."

He shook his head and grunted.

He listened to her as she hissed at him, tilting his head in wonder at her. She certainly looked really angry just because he had poked her in the stomach. It was to keep her from making a scene.

That had worked out real well for him.

"I'm pretty sure touching minors isn't illegal, especially when you just poke them. You're awfully sensitive, in a creepy way, aren't you? Not one of those people that think everyone else is a disease, right? Would explain the fashion sense, though."

He frowned at her question.

"Because if you fake a reason, I'll just make a real one," he said, fingers tapping his paintball gun, "and neither of us really want that."

Really? That was what he was going with? Fashion sense? Micah's face screwed up angrily as her brain fogged over. Fashion sense? He... this stranger would dare insult her? Micah was no fashionista, not by a long shot, but she wasn't a disaster, either? She was wearing a cotton tee shirt and a pair of blue jeans, how much more basic could it get? There wasn't much to insult! And how dare he call her sensitive! She was not sensitive! And definitely not creepy. Micah was the opposite of sensitive and creepy, as a matter of fact. There would not be much that Micah's frayed nerves could take. She was reaching her breaking point. As her vision turned red and she began to shake, she knew she needed to get control of herself.

All it took was Nate tapping his gun and threatening her with it for her temper to reach it's peak. She could feel the blood rush to her head in what she knew would have been the most stupendous blush of all time before it all rushed back to the rest of her body, leaving her pale and sick looking. Fine. If he wanted to be that way fine. Her temper had flared to the point that it fizzled out, just like it always had a tendency to do in these situations. She leaned back against the bench and sighed deeply, vision clearing from the red haze and rolled her head over to Nate. "What do you want," she asked softly, voice not really registering in her own mind as it rebooted. "Hiding from a stranger? Fine. I don't even care anymore. First I have to deal with rumors about aliens, and now I'm targeted by man-children with paint balls. I need to go back to bed."

Making friends was not Nate's strong point. In fact, the exact opposite was where he liked to dwell. Pissing people off on purpose, though sometimes he had to poke around and guess at his insults and actions until he found something that really, truly worked.

It seemed his current target had an unexpected temper. He knew she had been getting angry and frustrated, but hadn't realized just how much. Watching the color drain from her face, the way she seemed to shake from pure rage, he lifted his eyebrows.

Was she going to hit him?

But then, like a volcano that was all smoke and no bang, she flopped back against the park bench. His eyebrows fell and furrowed in thought and almost disappointment. Not that he had wanted to be hit, or for her to scream and yell, but it certainly would have been funny. She seemed to have crashed, and he watched her as if half expecting a trap.

"You're weird," he said, then wondered if she meant senshi. Usually, when people said aliens or terrorist they meant senshi. He leaned back on the bench as well, putting his arms up and resting his hands behind his neck. He grinned at her. "I wore you out, huh? It's okay, I get that from the ladies all the time."

Micah rolled her eyes, rubbing the bridge of her nose as she tried to coax her brain back into working order. "I'm just certain you do," she appeased, patting Nate's knee the way an adult might do to a child making a wild claim. "And you should just... keep telling yourself that. Self praise is good for a child's psyche." The remnants of Micah brain clung to the man child idea, if only to aid in the restarting process. This temper of hers was going to get Micah into trouble, more likely than not.

"Oh, if I had a dime for every time someone told me that. If it's not this damnable temper of mine, then it's the weird way I observe things." Micah flexed her hands at the memory of her tactile observations. "Being accused to molesting multiple inanimate object, just because I like to learn through feel. Like a blind man coming to meet something new. I'm seeing things from a different way, so I'm strange." She scoffed and rubbed her chin, waving her other hand dismissively. "Yet when a mother flips s**t because a child makes a strange sound it's normal. Why can't everything be normal? Isn't that the idea of normalcy? That everything is the same?" Too deep. Get out. Micah's still half aware mind scrambled as her thoughts scattered like marbles.

"You still haven't told me what you want."

Nathan frowned at her, but his expression split into a grin after that. He reached to catch her hand, holding it loosely, keeping it pressed to his leg.

"If you wanted to touch me, you could have just let me know."

As she began to explain to him at length about her personality flaws, he blinked and felt his mind black out for a bit. He had never gotten that bored, that quickly before. It was almost overwhelming. Maybe because the last thing he ever wanted to do was get into conversations that might actually result in him learning something important about someone else.

He did like to observe the people he teased, though that was on his own terms. Everything always had to be, or he had to hit eject. He didn't like getting involved. He didn't like feeling obligated to listen, to be nice or patient or something.

"I wanted to shoot you with my paintball gun," he said, shaking his head. He grunted what half passed as a laugh, "you think you have some problem with being normal? Your problem is you care what everyone else thinks is normal. So people get angry or confused or scared or whatever it is they do. Let them. Who cares?" He shook his head. "Besides you, I mean. They're going to forget you come tomorrow, anyway."

As Nate's hand rested on hers Micah could feel her temper biting at her gut again. Stop touching me... stop touching me... she ripped her hand away like his had scalded her, rubbing it gently as though wounded. Micah shot him an icy look and crossed her arms over her chest, huffing. For someone who accused her bench mate of immaturity, she was being quite juvenile. Not that Micah would ever see it that way. "At least you're honest," she muttered through her teeth, glancing at the paintball gun in his lap once again. "But do you really have nothing better to do? No... I don't know... girlfriends to hang out with. Books to read... Something?" Not that Micah was the most productive person ever. Still, she didn't hunt the park with a fake weapon.

"I care when I get scolded for it." A simple answer, though not the whole truth. Micah could fancy herself an adult all she wanted, but she was a child, and just as insecure. If she wasn't approved of by someone, then she wasn't good enough. And the idea of them forgetting her wasn't helping her either. "What if I don't want to be forgotten," she whispered more to herself than anyone else. Didn't everyone want to leave a legacy? How did Micah go about doing that when she didn't have any way to be remembered. If people remembered Micah in a bad way... at least they remembered her. Right?

Nate grinned at her reaction to being touched. She hadn't liked that one bit, but she had been the one to initiate contact. So she could dish it out, but not take it, as was often the case with people. Just like him, in fact. He was more than happy to mock and tease until someone was crying from embarrassment or hurt feelings, but if anyone came at him with something that really hit him personally he didn't know how to react.

Usually just like everyone else. He got mad. He got defensive and clammed up.

Whatever he had to do to try and get out of it, or make himself feel better.

"What could be better than this? Have you tried this? You don't know how fun it actually is, so how can you tell me reading a book is a better waste of my time?" He shook his head, looking pompous. Like she was insulting something legitimate and beautiful.

He heard her question and looked at her again, realizing he didn't have an answer. He likely shared similar thoughts on the subject. Any attention was attention, good or bad. And that was usually what someone wanted, regardless of how they justified it or went about it, or what they told themselves they wanted.

For the first time in a long time, Nate didn't say anything.

Micah's brain caught up with her words a moment after she'd spoken them. You're exposed. Get back, get back! She tried so hard to keep that part of herself hidden, even from her own mind. And here she'd let it slip like it was nothing. Put it back, pull it back! Frantically her mind searched for an answer as she watched Nate, silent at last, yet just as vulnerable as she was. Not this... anything but this. Micah could already feel the raw emotion of helplessness chafing at her nerves. Anything but this. Without thinking she rammed her shoulder into Nate, forcing a wide grin to part her lips. "Gotcha, didn't I?" She laughed loudly, force of her laugh tossing head head back. Maybe if it was loud enough, no one would notice it was not real.

She settled her laughter down after a time and looked at Nate through glittering eyes. Had she been crying from laughter? She wasn't even sure anymore. Still, she dried her moist eyes with the side of her hands and nudged him again. "Got you to shut up for a second though." Micah turned her attention a head where someone had turned their head to see who was making such a raucous. She easily locked eyes with them after a moment and lunged as girls such as herself do, arms out in a vague motion of challenge. They glared at her.

"Ha," she called, in an exaggerated laugh. "Ha... ha... ha ha HA!" They turned away and Micah settled back down into the bench. "You can shoot them," she sighed to Nate, turning away from the individual to look to her left. Something interesting had to be over there.
PostPosted: Thu Nov 24, 2011 1:35 pm

When she bumped his shoulder he looked at her, squinting a bit. Got him? What was she trying to say, she had done that on purpose? Made him think? He did not want to give her so much credit as that, to have decided that was the best kind of prank to pull on him. No, she must have been saying it because she meant it, and it had been on her mind at the time.

He noticed her laugh, but he grunted. Fake laughing at people was fun.

"Yeah you did. You should be proud of that. No one shuts me up very easily. But don't enjoy it too much: that just means I'm going to have to get you back."

He watched her drive away some people who were looking at them, grinning and grabbing his paintball gun as they turned away to hurry off. He wasn't sure if she meant to give him permission, but he never needed it. Lifting the paintball gun, he grinned as he aimed at the back of one of their observer's shoulders.

"I'd get ready to run if I were you," he said, and he fired a few pellets of paint, each exploding in a different color when they struck the person, before he leaped up and took off running.

Running. Something Micah was thoroughly good at. She grinned at the idea of it, passion already surging to her legs and imbuing the tendons and muscles with the speed she craved. Adrenaline didn't need a second warning before he began to pump through her veins. Her vision narrowed to essentials only. What was before her, where was her path, where did she need to be? At that moment, she needed only to follow this strange boy who'd sat next to her, who told her to ready herself to run, who she'd never before met, yet some how trusted at this moment. She trusted him now though she hadn't five minutes ago. Was it the way she fell silent when she pleaded to be remembered? Did she see a kindred soul in the foreign eyes? A matter to reflect on when her mind wasn't so focused on the tingling in her legs and the need to break into the sprint her body felt so natural in.

The pat pat of the guds was the start Micah needed, up and in a dead run almost immediately, her body surging forward without her noticing. When her mind caught up with the pounding of her legs, her feet had already struck the pavement of the sidewalk, long since having left the padding of the grassy park. Where was she going? It didn't matter? Focus only on the brunette hair in front of you, she reminded herself, already trying to keep her mind from slipping into the ecstasy she was so used to. Running. Wind whipping her already tangled curls into a matted frenzy around her ears and eyes, but she didn't care. She lost track of Nate almost as quickly as she'd started running. The shock running up her legs to make her back ache int he most perfect way. Yes, this was true pleasure.

And then she stopped. Not yet because she had achieved the release that had nothing to do with sexuality but everything to do with sheer euphoria. But because she'd realized, with sudden shock, that she had lost Nate. Running was not such a good idea, then. Footfalls behind Micah made her duck into an alley and press against the brick, flattening out as much as possible. The man they'd shot at passed by without noticing her, followed by a group of others. But where was Nate?
