Dru left her sister by the fallen tree, obsessed with her shiny and the thief that stole it! She'd felt the small hole bitten into the bottom of the hollow where she'd stashed her shiny eggshell. She'd seen the smallish tracks scurrying away from the scene of the crime. She was the best at tracking, could only guess that the tracks the thief had made was no more than a day old. But she thought it was a good guess, considering she'd been able to seen the prints. And the fact that she checked up on her shiny daily helped as well.

She was going to eat the thief. No two ways about. That'll teach the little thing not to steal from a mighty huntress like herself. She was her mother's daughter after all! Just because she enjoyed climbing trees and letting her leopard side out didn't mean she was any less of a huntress. She couldn't be. She wanted to be like Mom. And besides, Mura was right about leopards bring things into the trees to keep whatever it was away from the ground bound predators. Climbing trees would help her be a better huntress.

Which made the thief very stupid in her opinion. And suicidal.

Death wish 101: Steal from a Huntress.

Dru moved quietly, slowly, just as Mom had shown her and her siblings. She was careful not to pound her footsteps into the ground. The Shiny Thief was a rodent of some kind, based on the evidence - the bitten entry way into her hallow, and the tracks left behind. If it suspected it was hunted, that something larger than itself followed it, that it was going to be munched on, it would feel it from the ground.

Dru debated with herself about moving her hunt to the trees, but the tracks were so small, that she'd never see the pawprints from the branches of the trees, even Valens' short stature would enable her to see the marks left behind. So instead, Dru continued to move ever so slowly, freezing every few seconds just to make sure she didn't scare the thief away with telling vibrations sent as a warning from the earth.

She focused so completely on her hunt, the noise of the area faded. She still heard the rustling of the bushes, the chirps of the birds, the breathing of the animals, and whatever it was that the monkeys were doing, but they hadn't seen her. Yet. And she refused to let them see her. She wouldn't let them forewarn the thief, so it could run away with her shiny as bounty. Tell tales of its actions to its fellow rodents and prey.

No. Once you stole from her, from a huntress, you'd learn. And then die. And if other creatures were smart, they'd learn from your death.

There was a rodent ahead of her. Hidden in the shrubs, scuffling around louder than it would have if it knew she was so close. And she was close. She could smell the animal and hear it and she'd see it soon enough when she pounced on it. And kill it if it was a thief. Dirty little rat-thief thing.

She listened to its movements, picturing what the rodent-thing was doing and where it was based on the sound. Dru had to be careful not to break or pounce on the shiny eggshell. That would be horrible. If she caught the thief red handed and broke her own eggshell.

She moved so that the wind took her scent away from the shrubs, so that she was actually able to look into the bush, and hopefully see whether the prey had her eggshell or if it was a by-stander in her hunt. Not that she cared about rodent things and their innocence. But, she didn't want to waste her energy pouncing on one rodent thing only to send the thief racing away with her eggshell. Once in position, Dru settled down to wait and see.

Death by heart attack.

Or that's what Dru was assuming. She'd pounced on what she thought was her shiny thief once she'd seen the glittering gleam of something that shined within the rodent's nest in the shrub. She'd acted without thought. And couldn't find her silver eggshell. But she would.

She looked at the dead meat and shrugged. Right after she made sure there was anything to waste. Mom wouldn't like it if she wasted food, and though she didn't favor rodent, it was something to keep her on the hunt.

Once her meal was complete, Dru felt a bit guilty for killing the animal, not because she didn't see it as prey, but because it wasn't what she was looking for. If that made any sense to a predator. At all. So before resuming the hunt, Dru tucked most of the rodent's former shiny collection into a large leaf, and folded to before maneuvering to tie it around her neck. That would do. Dru took the largest shiny, a large stone that was and made a small monument for the rodent's sacrifice.

Then she was back on the hunt for a shiny thief with new shinies in toe.

A monkey!

Thieving no good monkey. It stole her shiny eggshell. And was now taunting her from the tree tops, tousing her fragile shiny about. Dru snarled at the monkey as it dropped lower in the tree branches, swinging about holding out her eggshell and then making to drop it at her. He thought he was safe. HA!

Just a bit closer. Another branch down.

As Dru planned out the path she'd take to get to the Shiny Thief, she continued to whip her tail and snarl at the gloating prey thing. It really did have a death wish. And Dru was going to so grant that wish. Arrogant, gloating monkey prey.

There just as the monkey swung onto a lower branch, made the motion apparent, Dru pounced on the first branch on her upward path to the shiny thief. The monkey shrieked and screamed, swinging up higher on to other branches, but Dru followed. There wasn't anywhere the monkey could go in the lonely tree out in the rogue lands surrounded only by lower shrubs and high grass. Nothing would keep Dru from pouncing her enemy.

Finally when the monkey ran out of branches, miscalculated a swing, Dru pounced on her prey, landing on a fat branch below the branch the monkey was aiming for with her claws in the monkey's belly and spine,

It died quickly, but probably not painlessly. But Dru didn't know that. She care. She really didn't notice. Dru only noticed the unbroken shiny in the monkey's hand. She carefully picked it out of its death grip with her teeth. Ok, she wasn't too gentle with the hand/paw, but she was gentle with the eggshell.

Tucking it into her leaf bundle, Dru climbed down, slowly not realizing how far up she'd climbed. And liking it. She was ready to claim her tree now. If she could chase and pounce a monkey in the trees, she could climb up and down one tree.
