General Information
The large stone cavern with the tiled floor and large yellow smiley face is likely familiar to at least several trainees, and may even feature in a few nightmares from time to time. Welcome to Deathsweeper, the training course that may only be attempted via c-type golem, and often acts as a testing ground for the Life Division's more painful creations. Stealth and detecting imminent danger are vital for Death Hunters and anyone who has to spend extended amounts of time near Caelius. The Deathsweeper chamber is full of hidden traps that only the finest of survival instincts can survive unscathed.

If you fail: you get to once again relive the sensation of dying. Painfully and sometimes quite strangely.

If you win: you have survived stepping 5 tiles into the room. Anything further is purely for peen and bragging rights.

    Mechanics
  • roll 1 d10
  • check for hp loss and death
  • decide whether or not to use your bonuses
  • if you survive, repeat.
  • roll list: the traps are ICly constantly changing, so feel free to get creative as to what exactly those traps are!

    01. horrible death
    02. - 50% HP
    03. live
    04. live
    05. - 50% HP
    06. - 50% HP
    07. horrible death
    08. - 50% HP
    09. live
    10. horrible death

    Bonus Mechanics
  • This bonus is consumable.
  • All participants get a flag, this flag will allow your character to notice something about the area they're stepping into. OOCly this means you can adjust your rolled number, up or down, by one point. Instinctive moves are used in the same manner as flags. These are stackable, so if you have 1 flag + 1 instinctive move, you can use them up in order to adjust your roll by two.

(If you roll a 1, you may not move your number down to 0, -1, or 10. And 10 cannot be adjusted to 1 or 11.)

  • Trainees: 1 flag
  • Death Trainees: 1 flag + 1 instinctive move
  • Hunters: 1 flag + 1 instinctive move
  • Death Hunters: 1 flag + 2 instinctive moves

The room looked like the Trap room from the mission.

Standing in the doorway, Gale folded his arms across his chest and stared mutely into the expansive cavern, the tiled floor giving him a very strong sense of deja vus.

<< You mean that place where you got bitten by a man eating couch? >>

"Yes," said Gale dryly. "That would be it."

When he'd heard about the optional training courses offered on the island, Gale had leapt on the idea like white on rice. He'd spent several days dragging himself around in an attempt at making sure he was busy; when he was not moving his mind went back to the field trip and the feel of the fire against his skin, and that was not something he wanted to go back to. The training exercises seemed like the perfect opportunity to not just keep himself occupied, but also to get a good deal of experience so he was no longer as weak as everyone apparently thought him to be.

Except now Gale realized he had forgotten one very important aspect of this training:

Caelius was the Head of the Death Hunters.

This, of course, meant that whatever sort of exercise it was, it would not be anything normal. Not to mention that the golem body he was wearing was not exactly flattering - and reminded Gale of those faceless wooden dolls artists used to figure out poses.

<< Why did you not think of this first? >> said Jinhai, sounding both exasperated and amused simultaneously.

"Clearly because I had other things on my mind," muttered Gale, eyes sweeping across the tiled floor and the enormous yellow smiley face above it. "And clearly I need to learn to be less surprised when it comes to fun things our delightful leader comes up with."

He was now thinking that being burned alive would be more fun than taking part in this sort of shenanigan.

"Remind me again why I decided to do this?"

<< Clearly because you are an idiot. >>

"Thanks so much for your support, Ginny. I really appreciate it."

<< It's what I'm here for, after all. >>

Gale rolled his eyes. He had thought Jinhai would be different after the mission; and for the first few days he had been, the weapon unnaturally quiet. Though Jinhai had a habit of remaining stoically silent a good portion of the time, this had been almost unnerving in its form. After a few days, however, it seemed the rifle had gone back to normal, making his usual snarky and disapproving comments.

Gale, however, was not convinced - at least, not entirely. He had not forgotten what his rifle had told him during the time in the tent, however.

<< I used to be one of them, remember? >>

It was now hard to forget. Gale wasn't certain what exactly Jinhai had been before being turned into a weapon - some sort of dragon, if he recalled correctly - but that meant that Jinhai had gone through the same sort of process that the other creatures had been through that were in those cages.

I wonder how it feels, to be shoved into a tube like that - to be turned into something other than what you are.

<< ...Gale? >>

Jinhai used his name so infrequently that for a moment he did not even realize that the sniper rifle was even talking to him.

"Oh," he said, and glanced down at the ring in his hand. "Yeah. Sorry."

With a sigh, Gale shook his head as though to clear it.

"Let's go."

His first step into the room was onto a trap - namely trap that had a giant trampoline hidden beneath the tile which, when stepped on, flung Gale up and away, back into the wall of the cavernous room.

"OW. BLOODY HELL - !"

He pushed himself up, rubbing the back of his head - which was not really his, considering it was a golem. A few bits of mud and clay flaked off and flickered to the floor.

<< Well that was, er... >>

"Terrible," grumbled Gale, pushing himself up and wobbling a bit. The golem was not exactly the most stable thing there was, and for a few seconds he just stood there, rubbing at his side and wincing.

<< Think you can make it across? >> asked Jinhai, the tone of his voice indicating both curiosity and amusement.

"Dunno," said Gale, and shrugged his shoulders.

More clay flaked off.

"But I'll definitely try."

The second step in was slightly less painful and twice as irritating.

"Why on EARTH is there a hive of BEES in this BLOODY room?!"

Flailing his hands around like a lunatic, Gale finally managed to get the pesky little creatures away from his face and arms, batting furiously at them. Jinhai was cackling in his ears - something that made Gale not quite as pleased.

"You damn dragon," he snapped irritatedly, which just made the rifle laugh harder.

<< Your face was delightful. >>

"Thank you for your support."

<< Anytime. >>

He almost put his foot on the next tile.

Almost.

Until he noticed that it was, in fact, moving.

"Let's try a different place, shall we?"

<< Couldn't agree more. >>

"HAH. MADE IT ANOTHER STEP."

<< Famous last words. >>

"Well, excuse me Negative Nancy over there. Haven't you got anything better to do than to poke fun at me?"

<< But this is what keeps me entertained all the time. >>

"Hardee har har."

Step: 5

HP: 5/40
Flags: 0.
Instinctive moves: USING, moving up to #2!

Clearly Jinhai had been right in assuming that Gale's words would come back to bite him in the arse, since the next tile Gale stepped on exploded.

Literally.

"Bloody - effing - hell - !"

This was followed by several more exclamations of profanities, most of which were hissed out through clenched teeth as Gale hopped around on one foot, holding his other in his hands. The bottom of his left leg had been burnt badly, the clay of the golem's body beginning to disintegrate.

<< Think you can make it any farther? >> asked Jinhai, a curious tone to his voice.

Gale's eyes took in the battlefield around him, the tiles with their traps, wondering what his chances would be if he took a leap to the next.

"No," he said, rubbing his leg as pain shot up and down. "No, I'll come back and do it again."

With a resigned sigh, he straightened, folding his arms across his chest and surveying the room with a mutely irritated expression. He should've known it would be impossible to get very far in a place that was most likely designed by Caelius - aka the man who never did anything halfheartedly and enjoyed tormenting the trainees as much as humanly possible.

"Let's go," muttered Gale, and hobbled quickly from the room.
