Lattice had been busy since coming back from the fieldtrip. For wanting so sorely to go back and lock herself in her dorm and never come back out again the Engraver was pretty much out as much as possible going for walks, working on gifts for others, and even attending the ceremony for Red. Her mind was in a whirl of confusion with a dash of stress but she still hadn't forgotten about Hel. The words they had sprouted at each other hurtful and full of ill intent words that were spoken during a time of great stress and heightened emotions. Words they both meant and probably still did mean but came out at the wrong time, the wrong way, and the wrong place.
The Engraver walked to the Reaper dorms with just enough pride and dignity to know that she needed to apologize and try to get things on the right track again. She found Hel's dorm easily enough as she quietly shifted down to rest on her knees before bowing down until her head nearly touched the floor in front of Hel's door after she knocked on it ready to ask for forgiveness with Hel's gift tucked upon her lap for the moment.
This was an Engraver's apology. This was not groveling though it might look that way at first.

This was one of those rare chances that Lattice happened to be rather lucky.
Ever since getting back from the field trip, Hel wasn’t often in her room. No, usually she was out, whether it’d be to run, fly, train or just simply walk. There was something rather comforting about being active outside, so she indulged in it. Not today though. Hel’s brows furrowed as she heard the knock on her door, wondering who it could be. She rarely had beings knocking on her door…she was usually the one who went and did the knocking.
Regardless, the reaper went and opened the door…only to stare ahead and find…no one there. Whaaaat? Hel’s brows furrowed as she looked down one end of the hall to the other. Did some jack a** just play ding dong ditch it with her door? She was about to go back into her room and close it, until her toes brushed against something long and silky. The reaper stiffened, and immediately her gaze shot downwards to…a kneeling Lattice?
The valkyrie stare and stared for a long moment, feeling nothing, until…
“Lattice!” The ghoul snapped exasperatedly, “What are you going on the floor? Get up! You don’t belong there!”

Lattice for a second or two didn't move until eventually she did heed the command and at first sat up on her knees so she could take the gift she was intending to give Hel in her hands before she moved to her feet, "It isn't a question of whether or not I belong on the floor, it is ... the only way I know how to formally apologize for my behavior," she murmured softly as her fingertips idly toyed at the ribbon she had tied around the gift. Her masked gaze was pointed downward a moment or two before she finally looked up at Hel.
"Just...saying sorry doesn't seem to be enough right now," she frowned slightly as she quietly turned the gift about in her hands before she offered it over to the Valkyrie so that it was out of her own hands so she would stop fidgeting with it endlessly.
She was struggling with her words but that was the price for not rehearsing it but then if one rehearsed something like this then it seemed less true, "It was never my intention to say harmful things and make you upset with me. I cannot take it back because it has long since been said but I am sorry..."

Hel rested her hands on her hips, staring down at the Engraver expectantly as she waited for her to get off of the ground. The reaper started to tap her foot impatiently, until eventually the ghoul was standing. “Bah, I’m not your master, so I don’t want to see you kneeling at my feet!” Oh the joys of coming from two completely different cultures.
The ghoul’s scowl started to smooth out though when Lattice spoke her, and she stared down at the offered gift for a long moment before reaching out to take it. Her brows now furrowed as she stared at the thing in her hands, but she didn’t open it yet. Hel’s dual toned gaze went back to Lattice’s face, just quietly absorbing her words. She was apologizing, huh? Hel…didn’t feel like she deserved such an effort. The valkyrie sighed softly, looking back down at the gift as she rubbed a thumb absentmindedly over the ribbon. Sure, she had been rather livid at the time when Lattice lashed out against her, but now, in light of all the recent events…it just seemed like it had been pointless and stupid. It certainly had not been the place to fight about it either.
He didn’t even seem to notice, anyways. She got upset over nothing.
Hel shifted her weight from foot to foot, letting out another deep breath before eventually focusing on the Engraver once more. “…I accept your apology, Lattice..” She paused, “…I also put forth my own, though it is only for two things. One, that was not the place…I shouldn’t…have squabbled in such a place and…two, my words about being captured were wrong. It was simply uncalled for.”

"You are not my Master," Lattice agreed softly, not out of disrespect but simple agreement that she was well aware that Hel was indeed not her Master or anything of the sort. The ghoul shifted her shoulders idly not really minding her own social awkwardness and weirdness of differing cultures. It wasn't like she was going out of her way to make Hel anymore uncomfortable than usual if at all. She just...She wanted to stop being at odds with the other ghoul.
She didn't like fighting with friends, Lattice had discovered, it made her morose and it distracted her from work she needed to do.
Lattice's fingertips fidgeted at each other for a long moment as she awaited Hel's response after her own outpouring of words, "I...I thank you Hel...I accept your apology as well. I...I just..I felt terrible, especially after all my talk of needing to get along and then I..."
Her fingertips stopped and pressed against each other, "...I became a complete hypocrite," she finished lamely.

The reaper just gave a dismissing shrug of her shoulders, looking over the gift again, her fingers still brushing over the ribbon. “It happened and it’s done and over now.” Hel said simply, looking back up at the ghoul. “We learn and live, eh? Hopefully, anyways…” The valkyrie seemed to mutter this last part to herself, glancing at a certain door over Lattice’s shoulder before once again shifting her attention back to the Engraver. Where as Hel might have been gloating a bit over receiving such a heartfelt apology from Lattice, she just want it to be water under the bridge now. Too many other things to mull over at this point in time, and luckily this wasn’t one of them anymore.
“…Ah, well, come in, friend.” Hel offered, stepping back into her room and sweeping an arm out. “I can warm us some apple cider if you like? How have you been fairing since our return?”

Lattice nodded a bit, "Yes, we shall learn from our experiences," she agreed. The Engraver was glad to just put it all up under a rug and consider it completed and something that no longer needed to be fussed over. It was a weight off of her shoulders and slowly Lattice was beginning to relax in the presence of her friend. She moved to enter the room quietly and seemed to think a moment, "Oh...I have never had any apple cider before warm or otherwise. I shall try some, thank you." She smiled a bit before she went to answer the rest of Hel's inquiry, "My shoulder wound hurts but otherwise I am mostly healed...Unless you account for some of the other aspects..."
She uttered a small sound of discomfort and then looked around. There was something comforting about the room it was probably because it was here that she first ate stew something about the memory brought a small smile to her face.
"I was also wondering ... if you'd assist me in something..Well not just me but others as well," she said softly. She was going to bring this up if Hel accepted her apology or not.

Yes…learn from their experiences...wasn’t that the truth. That might as well have been the field trip motto.
The reaper quietly closed her door once Lattice stepped inside, and gestured to her work table where there was a stool. “Have a seat there, friend, I will go get us some cider.” Hel padded off to her kitchen, pulling out two large mugs and filling with some apple cider before putting them into the magical microwave. After a few minutes she returned with two steaming mugs, setting them down on the work table near Lattice, and then went to her desk to get the other stool. Returning with that, she sat on the other end of the table and held her mug in her hands.
“I am glad to hear you are faring well enough…” Hel paused, raising a brow. “What do you and others need assistance with…?” The ghoul was curious as to what this…topic could be for Lattice to approach her with it.

She moved to the stool and had a seat quietly and just waited quietly for when Hel returned with the mugs. Lattice stared at the one near her before she took it in her hands and took a small sip and after that another sip, she seemed rather pleased with the flavor as she took a third and then set it aside while Hel took in her earlier request.
"Well...I suppose you'd hear of it sooner or later from Pepin since you are a part of the Paranormal Post but ... I wanted to clear the air around us before then so we had no strain amongst us," she said softly. She also didn't want there to be strain between them in general but that was an all encompassing concern. She seemed to have fallen silent as she thought of a way to word her request, "We are going to investigate some things over what had happened at the ... battle," she said softly, "it is best that we do not go running around and telling everyone but I trust you. I know you are trustworthy above all else. You are smart and brave, you have an inquisitive mind ... you might think of questions I might not and so in a while I will ask you to come with Pepin and I to ask questions of a boogeyman and to investigate what happened in general."
She hoped Hel would be able to agree to this if not then it would be a bit of a wash to make this request.

The warmth of the mug felt really nice in her hands as she took a sip.
The reaper just nodded her head as Lattice started to speak, listening intently as she went on. When she was told there would be an investigation about the battle though, Hel’s eyes widened a bit as she stilled. This…this was something that definitely needed to be done, and something she whole heartedly wanted to be apart of. Knowing was half the battle or so they say blah blah blah…but to know…that would help her train better, for sure. “Ah, of course.” The reaper gave a nod of her head. “This will stay between you and I…please, count me in.”

She actually brightened considerably an open and large (for Lattice) smile appearing on her face, "I knew I could count on you," she said in a tone that stepped near excited. She seemed to wiggle a bit before she stilled again and resumed enjoying her cider for a moment almost emptying her mug already.
Lattice shifted a little bit, "I..I hope you like your present...I know you didn't seem all that excited for it but...It was made with you in mind whether or not we play." She said quietly her excitement dying down a bit. This was in no way meant to guilt the Valkyrie but it was Lattice making an honest observation.

I knew I could count on you.
Hmm.
That struck a chord, especially in light of all that had happened.
Hel just simply gave a nod of her head, and blinked once the present was brought up. Oh yeah! She should probably open that, huh? At this point in time, Hel didn’t really feel like she deserved one, but she wasn’t about to go and offended Lattice by denying it. The ghoul brought the present back over to her, and started to unwrap it. Once the bow and paper were all cleared away, the reaper paused once more as she was greeted by…a deck of cards?
She squinted.
…That silhouette…that was her weapon! Woah.
Hel was definitely intrigued now as she pulled out the cards and started to flip through them after admiring the backs for a bit longer. “…Did…you make these?”

Lattice smiled just a little bit as she nodded, "Yes, each one was made with you in mind. I hope you enjoy them always," she said quietly with a small bit of joy creeping into her voice as the Valkyrie seemed to receive her gift well.
"For example you enjoy cooking so I drew a stewpot for a few of the cards because you also like stew and you enjoy leatherworking so I included pictures for that as well. They are cards that tell the tale of Hel the Valkyrie, Lattice's wonderful and passionate friend," While it wasn't always openly expressed it certainly showed the sentimental side of Lattice when she spoke like this.

Hel just seemed even more touched. She absolutely loved hand made things. She listened to Lattice’s explanation as she went through all the different cards; indeed noting that all the stuff she held in high regard was depicted on the surfaces.
Once again, the reaper didn’t seem to agree with the wonderful friend comment right now but…eh…what was the point of arguing? “Thank you, Lattice.” The ghoul murmured sincerely. She’d just need to start working her way to the high regard of that statement. Hel looked over the cards once more quietly, running pale fingertips over them admiringly, before speaking up. “…Ah…I am usually not a fan of card games…but I am willing to be taught this.”
An invitation of sorts, definitely.

Lattice beamed (or at least smiled more widely) and nodded a bit, "Yes! I shall teach you if you wish to learn, it is very strategic and challenging." She explained but there was a pause for a moment, "I think, however, I must teach you another time when things settle a bit more, hm? I promised my Sister I'd be back soon."
She started to get up so she could start to head out, "I...love you, Hel, you are dear to me or I would not have put forth effort to apologize to you," she said sincerely, "you are one of the first friendly souls I came across when I came to the academy. I would not ever wish to lose you."
The Engraver bowed slightly, "I will show myself out, so that I learn my way around...So I can be independent like you and my Sister," with that she turned quietly gazing around where the shapes of things laid out and then headed out.
