Minny wasn't one to complain about the cold. In fact, she rather liked it. The cold meant that there wasn't much to plant or tend to, giving her family some much needed free time. The one thing she hated about the cold was the wind. It could be freezing outside, but unless the wind is blowing, Minny didn't really notice.
Today she was dressed in thick jeans with snow boots, even though there wasn't a trace of it on the ground. Her turtleneck sweater was covered with a puffy blue jacket with matching hat. Her gloved hands were slipping irritatingly on the monkey bars at Knightside Elementary. That was another problem with winter. Cold metal, and cold wind made for boring recesses. She finally made it across and jumped down, looked back at the girl behind her. Then she took off for the other part of the playground. What should she play next?

Millicent was mostly alone in the corner of the playground, rainbow scarf wrapped around her neck, and thick pink socks visible under her jeans when she moved too fast. She was playing with a lightsaber, practicing her fencing. She wanted to really get better, since it seemed she was relying more and more on her packed lightsabers to help her beat up youma at night…she really wanted to get better at working with one for more then her silly little play acting.
She looked over as another girl came into view and smiled. “Hey you over there! Are you playing with anyone? Do you maybe want to have a lightsaber battle with me if you’re not? I have an extra here that you can use!”
After all, it was always better to practice with a buddy!

Minny skidded to a stop, hearing someone call after her. She looked at the new girl, and said "Do I want to do what?"
She was intrigued with the girl's scarf first. It was a dazzling array of colors and she peered at it, secretly wanting one just like it. Next came the plastic toy she had in her hand. It looked like a stick, one that could retract, but it had a more complicated piece at the end.
"What's a..lightsaber?" She'd never heard of such a thing! Did you hit other people with it? Was it a type of fighting? Minny wasn't sure her mother wanted her fighting..

Millicent just laughed, thinking that the other girl had to be joking. Everyone knew what a lightsaber was! It was just common knowledge! She walked over to her backpack and pulled out another toy, holding it out to Minny.
“Here you go, we can spar! So I can get better with fencing and stuff. You were just kidding about not knowing what a lightsaber is, right? It was a pretty funny joke! I’m Millie…it’s short for Millicent, but I don’t’ like being called Millicent, ‘cause that usually means I’m in trouble.”
She drew in a breath then just bounced up and down, the chill of the air getting to her after standing still for so long.

Millicent! What a pretty name! Minny still looked confused as she took the lightsaber in hand. She examined it while Millie talked and when she took a breath, she replied "My name is Minny. It's not short for anything because I'm not sure what Minny could be short for anyways."
The thought of fencing intrigued her. They let kids their age do something like that?
"Uhm...it wasn't really a joke." She said, drawing her weapon. Whether or not she knew what it was, her imagination was already taking control, but instead of Luke Skywalker, she was a pirate on the ocean, and the lightsaber was her trusty sword.

The child blinked. Minny…that was cute! Like the mouse! She shook her head, confused that the other child hadn’t been joking. She didn’t know what a lightsaber…Oh well, she seemed to know how to work the toy at least!
“Well, a lightsaber is like…a laser sword from the Star Wars movies! They’re my absolute favorite movies in the whole wide world!” If Minny really didn’t know what they were, then she probably hadn’t ever seen the movies…why did most of the other little kids around here not know Star Wars? Millie would have to change that. And soon!
Millicent got into position, grinning as she held her own lightsaber up. “Are you ready to battle? I know I am!”

Minny stared at the lightsaber with new found awe. A laser! SO it was a space thing! This revelation was further cemented in her brain as correct when Millie mentioned the movie was called Star Wars...so a battle among the stars....Apparently it was a big deal that she hadn't seen this movie. The young girl would have to ask her mother to rent it for her sometime.
"I've never seen the movies." She said, suddenly a captain of a spaceship. Just like the stories her brother told her! She held her lightsaber steady, wondering when the battle began. Was she to make the first move? Minny jumped forward, swinging her plastic lightsaber wildly at the other girl. Then she jumped back, saying "My favorite movies are The Land Before Time."

Millicent hadn’t been expecting the other girl to attack, at least not that quickly! She had spunk! How cool! The girl laughed and jumped backwards at the attack, letting out a happy and pleased giggle. “Ah! Good shot there! You almost hit me!”
The Land Before Time, hm…She thought the name sounded familiar, trying to think of where she had heard it before. “Is that the movie with the mice that want to go to America or something…?”
Was that it? She moved forward, swinging her saber at the other child, laughing until it hit her. “OH! That’s the one with the talking dinosaurs! Littlefoot and them! I like those too, or I did when I was littler! That’s so cool!”
She was really eager to get to know this other child…most of Millie’s friends were older then she was and she was sure that most of them thought she was strange.

She had no idea what she was doing. It was clear that Millie had some sort of training, and knew how to handle a sword. Her mind delved deeper, and she could picture the spaceship around her now. She was fighting for her galaxy!
She made a face when Millie guessed the movie wrong. And she was asking her about Star Wars? Who has never seen the Land Before Time!? But then she got it right, so it was ok, and the long haired girl went back to being her friend."I really like those movies. The dinosaurs are the best!"
Millie made her attack, and Minny flinched as the lightsaber came in contact with her. But it didn't hurt, and she opened her eyes, laughing and attacking right back. It was fun playing with another girl for once. She usually had only her brother around.
"So what's this Stars Wars Movie about?" She asked, swinging her sword at the girls feet.

Ah! The feet! Millicent tried to jump back—and completely lost her footing, falling to the ground and erupting into a fit of giggles. For someone with no experience, Minny was really good at this! She’d make a wonderful Jedi padawan! Soon Millie was sure she’d have a whole army!
“Well,” The child sat up and brushed off her back thinking for a moment and looking at Minny. “It’s about good against evil…the light side against the dark side…There’s these good guys—the Jedi, and they fight to keep peace in the galaxy, but the bad guys—the Sith they’re really mean and use the…this magic stuff in the air called the Force for bad things! They want to take over the galaxy and stuff. But the Jedi win, the good guys always win!”
She seemed so pleased with herself and nodded for emphasis. “I have some Star Wars books if you wanna borrow them…you can borrow the movies too!”

Even though she was laughing, Minny still lowered her toy and said "Oh! I'm sorry!" when Millie hit the ground. Apparently feet were not such a good idea for targets. She began to describe star wars to her, and suddenly Minny very much wanted to see the movies.
Good and Evil, Light and Dark..Minny loved those kinds of things. She practically was glued to the tv when those kinds of shows were on, and even the news brought her entertainment with the talk of the super suited terrorists causing trouble downtown. And finally meeting one did not to quell that enthusiasm.
"They sound like good movies! Almost like what's happening in real life with the kids dressed up and using magic!"
Not just kids though...the Knight she had met was a grown up, with kids of his own. But she clamped her mouth shut. She told Camelot that she wouldn't tell anyone that he saved her, or that people could use magic. She had crossed her heart!

When Minny mentioned the kids dressed up, Millicent hesitated. Could this other girl be a senshi too? Maybe they could be senshi buddies!
She opened her mouth, about to spill her secret identity, then closed it, thinking hard about what she should say before she said it. “Yeah…it is kind of like that…only in Star Wars they don’t wear silly outfits like that…they wear long robes!”
Millie smiled. “Do you know any of the magic people? I met one once, she was really nice. She saved me from a monster!” There! Now maybe Minny would hint to her that she was one of the super heros too! Maybe Minny was Hug-Bell! Hug-Bell was really nice, and Millie hoped she’d be able to meet up with her again sometime…
“But, you should come over and watch them with me sometime! It could be a party!”

Millie was saved by one too? Maybe it was the same one that saved her! Camelot did seem the kind to go around and save kids. He was a daddy after all. But no, she mentioned that 'she' saved Millie from a monster. So it wasn't him. Then there were more good ones out there!
"Long robes? Like wizards?"
She tried to imagine wizards playing like they were, only with actual lightsabers. What were they made of? Was it a sword? And the force sounded a lot like magic.
Minny smiled widely. "I met one once. He saved me and Digs from a monster. Digs is my toy dog. He's in my backpack right now because I don't want anyone to take him. But uhm, the guy that saved me was really nice. He was like a knight saving me!" It was true. The dog never left her side after that night, and was currently residing in her backpack, wrapped in a scarf to keep him warm while she was at school. The second part was also true and she didn't EXACTLY tell Millie about Camelot. She said he was LIKE a knight, not that he actually WAS a knight. It was totally different.
Totally.
A party! Minny LOVED parties! Oh man, she could ask her mom to make them some yummy cookies to take over, and she could find a long shirt and make it into a robe like a..Jedi was it?...wears! "Parties are the best!" She exclaimed, bouncing up and down and almost forgetting entirely about the "battle" at hand.

“Like wizards?” Millicent thought about this for a long moment, then shook her head. “Not really like wizards…I have a couple Jedi robes at my house! You can have a set of them if you want! I’m sure Mommy won’t mind me giving them to my new friend!”
She liked the sound of that. Her new friend. Yeah.
She listened to Minny talk about the one that saved her then just laughed. “That sounds like this other guy that saved me once…he was nice. I think him and I are friends now.” Of course she was thinking of Camelot now, her Qui-Gon…her Jedi Master!
“Yeah! Parties are the best! I’ll ask my mom about it tonight and I’ll let you know at school tomorrow? We can play again at recess!”

This was fast becoming the best recess ever! Minny made a new friend, learned about a new movie, AND got invited to a party! Not to mention that she learned that the knight that saved her was more common than previously thought.
"Can I really have one?" She asked excitedly, bouncing up and down for real now. She loved new clothes! Even if the new clothes weren't exactly new from the store. As long as they were new to her they were awesome.
Her eyes got wide when she mentioned that she was also saved by the guy that saved her. "You were saved by him too?" she said mysteriously "And you guys are friends? Maybe you can introduce me to him. I want to thank him again for saving me and Digs." And ask him more questions. But ooops! She was talking about him again! She covered her mouth, feeling bad. She couldn't go back on her word.
"Ok! I'm glad we have the same recesses. I'll ask my mom about going to your house too and you can tell me the address tomorrow! This was a lot of fun!"
